[Q] [Discussion][Q&A's]Touch recovery, Worth it? - Samsung Galaxy Mini

as some of you know, the clockwork recovery has changed to touch just like all films past and present are going 3D, but is it worth it?, the recovery menu that we all know and love has a version the ICS soft buttons to make it "touch", sorry to put a downer on the guys that develop it but tbh i have the touch version and the only thing i use is the benefit of smaller fonts so you can read the log as roms/zips install so lets vote and if you have an opinion let it be heard!

Well it's a step forward though it's not yet 'point-to-touch'.. if you don't like the touch buttons, you can use the older ones which does not have it but still has smaller fonts..

Oh i know its a big step but i was kinda dissapointed lol, im deffinatly not slating the work of the team but i was kinda hoping for the point to touch... and tbh... isnt it a bit risky having touch buttons on a menu that could brick your phone :/

I think it would be nice & easier to use especially for first-time users.
And it shouldn't be risky.

Which Rom? Whats a Kitchen? Help?

Okay im new to the scene, had my nexus since Febuary after i broke my iphone. i want to join the rooted life but i dont know which is the better one for me since theres like over 4 diffrent roms *kanye shrug*
but ive been reading about kitchens, from my understanding its a program that let you pick what you want flashed, i want to find out which rom allows me to install things i really want.
heres a simple list
htc keyboard, htc peep (i believe thats impossible still want it though lol), anything that can make the trackball change color, a volume boost if it exists, the desire camera app, and a BETTER GALLERY APP if it exists, the one thats stock is pure a$$ it makes pics look like trash (main reason it failed that iphone vs n1 screen test)
thanks in advance

THANKS lol a full desire port lmao

Mod for Android keyboard auto correction?

I was wondering if any of you out there know of a mod or even an app that I could install to make my keyboard correction (like when I type fast on the touchscreen and don't hit every key quite right and it guesses the word)a little more accurate, kinda like the one on the iPhone? I know that this phone has that. But, is there any way I could make it a little more accurate? Maybe port something over from the iPhone, if that's possible even. I am rooted running Bugless Beast ROM w/ NexTheme v 0.5. Thanks in advance for any contribution.

WP7 on Captivate

Since I first knew that Captivates were hackable, I always wondered if there was any way to put WP7 on my phone. It isn't because I would have rather had a WP7, but it is simply because I want the option to. I find it hard to believe that none of you haven't imagine WP7 on your captivates. Recently trax26 made a theme of WP7 that looks simply amazing, (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=910918) but, his barely sufficient tranlation makes it even harder for a small time programmer like myself to install it. The screenshots look amazing, but there is no way I can do that.
My question is: Does anybody else know of a simpler WP7 theme to install? A CWM theme would be ideal, but some minor hacking would be okay with me.
And if not, I would just like to put that out there as a suggestion for anybody whose up to it. I'm sure there are tons of people (including myself) who would beta it as much as possible, just so as long the feel is right.
Thanks in advance, Richard.
Look at metro ui in the market. It is a decent wp7 launcher. Some bugs but overall much better then trying the theme.
This is my captivate. There are many like it buy this one is mine.

Thanks a bunch and just wan to let you know you have a typo in your signature
EDIT: Although that is a good emulator, take a look at the link that i posted. That's what im looking for, full blow WP7 with the right symbols and everything (more or less). But thanks anyways.
Yea, it would be nice to have WP7 running on Cappy. After watching HD2 running WP7 on YouTube makes me eager to have it. But idk how. Lol.

Yeah I know about my sig .
As for getting real wp7 it just wont happen. These themes and that II are probably the closest we will get. I figure the metro II is much easier than trying to do the process of the theme.

WP7? So you can deal with stuff like this? http://blog.seattlepi.com/microsoft/archives/237934.asp?from=blog_last3

I'm not saying I want WP7 as my only operating system, because Android is far superior in almost everything, but I simply want it to be able to have the choice of having WP7. I would like to have the speed and hackability of Android, but have the simplicity of WP7. I have to say the tiles are probably the only thing that will keep WP7 going, because honestly, I think they are pretty cool. Metro is a decent simulator that gets the jist, of WP7 but it's actually too simple. The thing about WP7 is that it has cool simplicity by using colored and animated tiles.
And as for the quote "It will be a long time before WP7 comes to android" every rom has to start somewhere.
You'd need someone who could reverse engineer WP7 - then figure out how to use existing drivers or write new ones before WP7 could be installed on our Android phones.
There is no "Open Source" for Windows... ever.
Drivers would probably have to all be re-written or some type of hack so WP7 could work with existing drivers.
So... unless you know someone with a great amount of time - possibly can hack M$ and get the source code we probably won't be see this type of port soon.
well i use LG optimus 7 before i change to captivate just use it 1 month
then sell. What can i said... it actually very nice and really fast phone
and its wp7 is really pretty but it 2 simple and lack of app support for now.
cause its still new maybe another 1 or 2 years i will get it again.
Maybe i'm just not understanding, but im not asking for the windows sole operating system, im just asking for a themed windows 7 rom, or even better, a combination of the home screen on WP7 and the rest of it being android. Maybe thats too much to ask, but it doesnt seem like it.

Maybe I didn't read your source post fully, but isn't that theme built for galaxy s phones, and only require launcherpro?
Granted I only glanced the post, but it didn't look too complex. If you can flash a ROM, that theme shouldn't be a big deal.

Android Phone 7 Theme
Google is your friend!
With all those widgets I wouldn't expect the battery to last half a day.
I read the entire post, and you need launcherpro plus to resize the widgets, which I dont have, and have no money to buy. Also, it's not a theme that you can flash, you need to do some extracting and coding via terminal. It may not be possible to make a complete WP7 theme that's flashable with Clockwork recovery, but I've seen many a theme that looks completely original. I don't know much about ROM writing (if i did i would have the WP7 theme on my phone and this post would be gone), but it seems like with all the amazing devoted themers on XDA, someone besides the before mentioned person, could create a wonderful flashable theme that does not require any money/hacking.

Wooww. This is truely what I wanted. My only question is, does it require and money and is it compatable with captivate? I only wish I could thank you twice haha

The whole first post is a tutorial! Good luck!
Ok honestly, I don't want to try and screw with my phone, because I'm happy the way it is right now. I would really like to get a WP7 theme, but I think I'm going to wait until someone makes a SIMPLE theme, that you can flash and be done with HINT HINT HINT HINT.

LoL yea i agree.. we just want wat we cant have.. but if we'd be stuck with it we'd be trying to get rid of it
Ive had a captivate since july and i love the phone even with numerous software problems right out of the box. I recently picked up unlocked HTC Surround and its awesome. That one comes with snapdragon processor 1 gig, same one in the HTC Evo 4g, and 512 mb ram and using the WP7 Os it is very fast right out of the box. It totally lacks customization unlike android os and no where the amount of apps and games android has, but the ones it does have are way better versions then the android ones, for example facebook and craiglist. And the xbox live game THE HARVEST is amazing. I would encourage anyone to try one out, very well done OS compared to the previous windows mobile os. I dont think ill sell my captivate because i love having option to choose from either android or Windows Phone 7. I just hope it catches on so it will soon have as many apps and games as Android.
Windows Phone 7 is a polished OS, but it won't even come close to Android or iOS for a VERY long time. And like I said early, It's not like I want WP7 instead of Android, but It's the reason that i CAN'T have WP7 that makes me want it. If anyone has any WP7 friends, give them the idea!
Have you looked into "Launcher7" ? Search it on the market.
If you just want a home theme that looks like WP7 this seems to be the easiest one going.
I think asking someone to port the whole WP7 OS over to a Cappy is probably not going to happen though.

[Q] question and opinions wanted

I have an HTC Hero and one of my many questions is do you think Sprint and HTC will make a Hero 2 ... maybe with a 3.5" or lil bigger (not a monster sized phone) with either a good 1ghz processor or even a dual core and maybe keep the "track Ball" but lose all the other buttons make them all capacitive touch ..... thoughts or opinions ?
I do believe that the Hero has been very successful for both HTC and Sprint.
Ok back to me and My Hero I am not a developer and I am new to the rom switching game. I love the crisp look of the factory Sense UI, but I am one of those types that sees things differently. I look at things and say to myself how could we improve on this or how can we make it faster and keep it looking good. I found this website, and pretty much changed my Hero into a Super Hero so to say.
I also would like to say thanks to all of the great developers on the CDMA Hero side, so far I have tried almost every variety of rom and different mod on my Hero (have screenshots once I get out of the probation period I will post them)
So far I figured out the easiest way for me to root my hero is with one of two I found floating around these forums, Hero Root by regaw leinad or super1click v1.7 ..... I also figured out that firerat's mod is easier the data2ext if your nat really familiar with adb. I also have found three more programs to help a lot, droid explorer, android commander and qtadb.
My question to all Hero owners what do you think is the best all around ROM, Gapps, and other mods as of May 8th 2011? (I am just looking for opinions I read almost every thread on this site and I would just like to see it all together call me lazy)
All this and I have not "bricked" my Hero .... must be one tough s.o.b.
To answer your first question, I just don't see a revised Hero in the works. It has a been a great phone for many users and Sprint alike I'm sure, but the Hero is not likely to reappear simply because it doesn't really conform to what HTC is doing with most of their phones now (4-4.3 inches, capacitive buttons, similar super thin form factor). I definitely don't think they would put a trackball in, because even if there were a trackpad on a new device it's almost guaranteed to be optical. If there were to be a refresh, I definitely think we would have heard something by now considering the lifespan of the Hero.
As for roms, I'd definitely suggest playing around with AOSP or CM7 versions of Gingerbread. You may find that you prefer greater customizations than you get with Sense. However, if you really really dig Sense and would much rather have it, there's a great group of guys developing Sense 2.1 for Gingerbread on the Hero. It's in Alpha right now, but even considering that, it's a fantastic piece of work. As far as Gapps go, I would just stick to the latest ones provided at the Cyanogenmod wiki. I don't really apply other mods as I personally don't think I need any, but YMMV.
i for one love the design its the perfect size for me and as far as the processor goes once i overclocked it a little bit its plenty fast enough for me because i dont really install a ton of apps and as far as gaming goes i have a ps3 for that lol so it really is the perfect phone for me all the new ones are just to big i think.
and ive had the hero sense september and i had a mt3g before that.
OMGB
I have been running OMGB for the past 8 hrs I am using wifi only browsed the web for a while, cut grass listened to some MP3's and browsed the web some more and more MP3's I listened to MP3's for a couple hours (with the MIUI player found in the forums) and it shows pretty good battery life
I would also like to add that I am using the
opengles tweak to show supported version 1.1 (not 100% sure why I did it ... maybe just to say I did it successfully)
s0be's kernel AP5, unCoRrUpTeD data2ext V2.2, and the MIUI music player and camera apks
I like the bare minimalist look and feel this rom has, but I still dont have a true favorite .... variety is such a sweet thing and all these choices .... and most of the people I know dont even know what an HTC Hero is .... if its not a iLemon or if it doesnt say DROID (like in the commercials) they just dont "get it"
ok found the first flaw ..... lol
my market says verizon where i would normaly see Sprint and had my first FC

[Q] SenseCream

Do you think we will last long enough to taste icecream + sense on this phone .
<_< how bout we work on getting a fully working ICS rom before we think about ways of slowing it down and making it look bad
but in all honesty, I dont really think we'll see sense on it. :/ still would be cool tho I'm not a fan of it

Oh my God!!! I was going to say some really f'ed ups stuff (not in a rude or bad way) but I had an appifiny. If ICS is slimmed down just right then throw Sense 3.5 or as its known Sense Zero which is a newer lighter version of HTC sense made for the HTC Explorer which has almost the same specs as the Hero the i cant see why we cant have ICS with HTC Sense.
But yes lets get a good functional ICS first, then we deal with the rest.
Anything is possible. . .
Want a true answer to this? No you won't see it. Sorry. ICS is a completely different monster and is also a big build in itself. Throw Sense on top on that..... Sense lite or not, and it's still too big for our phone. IF I see any way for it to be done I will do my best and try but highly unlikely. CM's even starting to drop development for us older phones.
Yeah I tried and went down in complete flames. The zips for ics sense are way over 100mb. I'm sure it could be done, but would require more work than it would probably be worth. We've got plenty to work with now anyways
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
It's why DX had to be 2.3.7 also. It's like Sense in some ways and I would have loved to use ICS as the base for it but can't. It could be possible one day. But personally I wouldn't count on it. Google made ICS a game changer. Meaning it changed a lot of how they did things in Froyo and Gingerbread. We're even lucky to have it booting on this old thing. Some phone forums don't even have what we do thanks to Jaybob the mean lean debugging machine. He's still working hard at it. I'm not much help for him though as it's beyond me at the moment so he's been a one-man band at this.
