[Q] Zeus rom or stock rom - LG Optimus Black

Hello,
I'n having a dilemma:
on the one hand, I really like Zeus rom, and I use it since v1, it's a fast and great rom.
On the other hand I need a stable rom and unfortunately Zeus rom has lately become unreliable&unstable, even though there are much less cases of Sods and on this version I haven't experienced any sod yet,
but no one wants his alarm clock not to work due to an annoying SoD over the night, in some cases those sods are much more than only an inconvenice.
Why is lg stock rom 2.3 not recommended? Is it really so slow and unresponsive as is described by many people?
What do you think about it?

Yes, that's right, because there's very much lg trash like lg world; smartshare etc.
But you can simply delete all apps you don't need, to have a clean rom.
Here you can find a list of all removable apps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21322849&postcount=2
But Zeus has many tweaks too..
cakebomb.

I know that there are lg trash apps in the stock rom, but do they really impact on the performance and battery even if I don't open them?

Why don't you flash you're phone back to stock and try?
Performance is a lot better with zeus but i you find a stable rom more important then performance, then maybe stock is the best option for you.
Just try what's best for your needs, i don't know if marvel is more stable..

Only some, which runs automatically in the background.
And your phone boots faster if you don't have much apps.
I think Zeus is mainly faster because it has a modded kernel, tweaks etc.
But if the stock rom is fast enough for you, use it.
cakebomb.

I use Stock ROM v0 and It's very smooth and stable. OK it's not purely stock because it's Rooted, Deodexed and Zipaligned but just up to that without any more modifications to the kernel and theme. For the bloatware removal I just did it myself simply by using "Root Browser" from the market. All the bloatwares are inside "system/app" directory. The advantage is I can stay with this setup for so long until ICS comes therefore relieves me the headache of flashing and testing different versions of modded ROMs everyday. The base ROM i use is Marvel vA(downloadable in dev section) and just do the bloatware removal yourself.
Tips: Also replace the stock gallery with quickPic and replace the Stock browser with Opera Mobile. Also replace the launcher with LauncherPro. LauncherPro is much much smoother than its nearest rival and even smoother than my iPhone4. I'm not exaggerating.

[Q] Best rom for optimus 2x

Hello guys
I got an optimus 2x, and was planning to root it, or whatever you call it From day one, I was really dissapointed with the LG stuff, it got better with launcherPro, which made my homescreen much much faster and smoother. I think this phone has enormous potensial, but bad software. Therefore, since I am new to this forum, I am looking for the "best" root or rom thing for it. Maybe there is many different versions, but I like things clean, simple, fast and smooth. thats what she said.
Anyway, I've seen a friends rootet xperia, and he said he got some new UI with folders and stuff. I dont mind this, only it is good, and maybe it will be customisable still?
Problems Ive had with the phone: Random shuttdown, ugly apps like facebook for LG and antivirus etc. Buggy lockscreen. Battery goes to 0% when it randomly shuts down.
Is it wise to get 2.3 on the optimus 2x? I would love some inputs from you guys also, what you like the best and some general experience. Will I be able to update my phone when im rooted, like from the settings options from the phone? dno if this is important or not.
Anyway, links would be appriciated to official threads or direct links to your recomended roots/roms. Thanks
I have no experience with this, so a HOWTO guide or a youtube vid would be nice. Ive only done jailbreaking on 3.1.2 on 3gs
Cm7 is still in a nightly on the o2x but it has alot of bugs, i think. Mdc fr17 is very stable and fast, it's 2.2.2 though

If you want a clean, simple, fast and smooth ROM like you said ide go for the Modaco Fr17 Vanilla version -
http://android.modaco.com/content/l...om-rom-for-the-lg-optimus-2x-vanilla-edition/
This is also extremely stable as its based on the stock ROM but with all bloatware removed, also read some of the pinned topics on the links below, this will show you all you need to do.
http://android.modaco.com/category/506/lg-optimus-2x-2x-modaco-com/
For bleeding edge stuff, hope on the CM7 nightly train, but don't complain if it crashes.
If you want stability, then try the MoDaCo stock based ones.
You don't need much of a tutorial to do it, use SuperOneClick to gain root, grab ROM Manager from the Market and use that to install ClockworkMod Recovery... download the ROM you want, wipe & install (also via CWM if you don't want to fiddle)
Hi
If you don't want to install a custom ROM:
have a look at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1037751
-Install latest firmware and baseband for your region (or another region if you prefer)
-root your phone
-Install ROM Manager from Market and install ClockWorkMod Recovery from there
-Install dexopt fix
Now that you have a good base, look in market for an app to uninstall system apps (I have used Root Uninstaller). To completely remove system apps I think you need to remount /system rw, else you can freeze apps for easy restoring if you mess up.
I would also recommend installing launcherpro from market (replace home screen and app drawer) and google stock lockscreen http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033776&highlight=aosp+lockscreen
Thanks for the help guys. Im gonna try the Modaco Fr17 Vanilla version. I have an exam tmrow and will therefore not try it out until the afternoon. I also have to read some, and learn the difference between root and boot, and some of ur advance words havent found a real guide yet, but have the iso and all those other folders that was in the Modaco Fr17 Vanilla version.
great fun
I think the phone drain battery too fast in 2.2 (official rom)
I loose 40% of battery within 6 hours without using anything (when I'm sleeping during a night)
That's why I change to use 2.3 and I found that the battery problem is gone
I loose 1% in 12 hours.
I'm also new to the fun world of android. I've learned alot by simply reading threads and using google to explain som of the terms Read the roll up thread very thorougly, explains alot.
I'm now using CM nightly #31 and it's been very stable for me.
Just do some backups and start toying around with your phone, it's fun!
..but I like things clean, simple, fast and smooth = cyanogenmod!
So far, from temasek is the best.. he got a custom kernel too.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421425
My Opinion,
Android 2.3 from teamsek. It is just brilliant.
Android 4.0 from xxMrHyde + Nova Kernel is quite good keeping in mind the state of ICS on the 2X.

i advice to newcomers to flash first a stable CyanogenMod build.
then when they want to go further flash a Custom Kernel (for CM7 i think the best one is Etana)
after that take what ever you want! Try, try and try.
but pay attantion to not become a flashacolic :silly:
try nove HD
Nova HD is also great . now im using it..

Me too, it's the best ICS Rom i've ever seen, no lags, super fast (@1ghz!) and IMO completely stable, just some little bugs.

[Q] Advice Choosing Rom

Hi everyone.
I still Have Nova ROM v8.
But i've been paying attention to the ROM Thread, and i see that 2 main ROMS stand out, Zeus and Marvel.
I wanted to know which one of this is the more stable and better one.
Comparing Nova to Zeus , and Nova to Marvel , which one of them got better battery life?
regarding performance which one of those 3 is better?
Best regards,
bullseye
Install zeus v3n.

The problem i have is i need to upgrade to 2.3 now my phone checks as a V10D does this mean i can't install the V20x ROM's due to them not being compatible?
Ideally i wanted to keep with my stock ROM and just update but i installed CWM so i can't do that and looks like i'll need to flash to a non-carrier ROM which i have heard causes issues due to people removing all the stock apps from LG etc.
So can i even install the V20x's or are those a no go and how long before we get a nice clean near stock ROM with root because i'm really not a fan of the ICS look

1) i might be wrong, but i dont think it would be a problem if youre flashing up from v10(froyo) to v20(gb)
2) problems arising from custom roms are not directly caused form removing stock lg apps, usually it arises from the extensive tweaking and modifications the dev applies to make the rom better
3) if you want just a rooted stock v20 you could probably ask the devs nicely or sth since they based their own roms from the stock v20 (well most times) or you could prob try asking Nooby for his nandroid
4) if you want to install a custom rom but dont like the ics look there are a few options actually,
- Redy's Repack of the Official v20n
- Zeus's stock ui is pretty close to stock gb (sans the blue themed icons)
- There is also Achyut's Prada Themed Rom

There are still a lot of bug my friend WIFI adress doesnt show up, battery drain is faar to high, laags sometimes, freezes sometimes,... You will still notice this. So a stock ROM will at least until now be the better choice, although I also use CM, cause I like the look

[Q] marvel v7 vs. zeus 6.11

hello all,
Is there somebody that tried both roms?
I'm on Zeus rom for a while and i'm very satisfied with zeus.
But i'm also very curious about the new Marvel. Offcourse i just can give it a try but maybe there are some people who can give me heads up differences between these two roms.
thanks!
Zeus ROM uses zeam launcher with alot of tweaks.
Marvel ROM has amora installer which means you can install stock/ics launcher and framework with app/widgets according to your own will.
so personally I like Marvel more then zeus but zeus is nice too.
Zeus departs itself from being stock, kernel level and tweaks inside the system. I, considered as an advanced user prefer this kinds of things. As themes, launchers etc are free to make, install at will or modify.
Marvel, from the info posted is a themed stock. Which most of us wonder (when we discuss) (or the previous files we obtained) why people say it has the best RAM Management, fast etc.
Only you (user) can decide which you prefer. Apps, launchers, themes doesn't differentiate a ROM. It's what's inside that runs it.
i will just give it a try tonight to see what rom i like the most..
i think zeus will still be my favorite but we'll see..
Pollie81 a wisely desition. I agree totaly with gabwerkz. Huexxx is a genius ROM-baker while tantrums is a genius theme-maker. It depends of the taste of any user.
Hi,
i've tried both roms and for me:
Marvel: Easy and nice installation (with possibility to chose some apks etc) via Aroma, really nice looking rom, but nothing special (comparing to stock) - i think for normal user its ok.
Zeus: Maybe time-consuming pesonalization (apks and so), but with titanium backup things go well. Good looking, nice tweaks (i love it) - IMO for more advanced user.
Zeus is my favourite. With 6.11n i don't have any problems with stability or battery consumption.
rom with a kernel that supports overclocking and tweaks without applications is ideal for me, after I do my little kitchen just to "my" theme and install my favorite applications.
everything that is useless is removed with QtADB. I stay on Zeus v6 battery life suits me better ...
i've tried it but got back almost instantly to zeus..
not that i don't like marvel, of something went wrong but it's all about customization..
i know, i've read the topic but i wanted to experience with my own eyes.
i had already customized zeus with my favorite apps and theming so it was totally personalised.
zeus is the perfect rom for me, with tweaks and mods zeus has made a stable and super fast and smooth rom. all about performance.
the rest you can do for yourself..
i prefer zeus and am used to it
but its better to give marvel a try

+1000000...i *personally* use zeus 6.11 with swapped system/apps and framework-res to get my desired look on zeus with it's system level tweaks.
when it comes to *stock* LG v20GB based ROMs,apart from zeus;
marvel, delfin and a couple of my roms are just merely themed stocks which boils down to the "visual" preference of the users.
don't get me wrong here. MARVEL is perhaps the best stock themed ROM available. but again, when it comes to comparing Zeus, there is none currently which is at par now.
hope i don't get flamed
I ve try zeus and marvel, and so far zeus is the best for stability and battery life.

This is an impossible question to answer. You will never use your phone exactly the same way to measure things like that. You can use benchmarks to do that, but it's not reliable since you can get different points in the same ROM. Battery life is the most difficult to compare, it depends of so many variables that neither can tell. I think this is a personal choice but I think Zeus is better because it was the first and because of the issues Huexxx has to find and fix. So it gives him a knowledge to cook a decent ROM. And I love it!!!
I'm using Zeus 6.22, boot animation PC Bios, Launcher SE ICS,
with Quadrant, Zeus 6.22n: 1660 -1700 points; Marvel 8.1 : 1100 - 1200 points
Waiting for a stable ICS rom

[Q] Looking for a stable custom ROM. What should i choose?

I promised a friend of mine that I will help him get a more stable ROM for his OB because he doesn't know anything about flashing or anything root related really and the stability of the stock ROM is, well, pathetic. I haven't seen any android phone until now which gives random crashes and freezes with a stock ROM.
So, I really need your opinions on the stability of the various custom ROMs that have been developed for the p970. Doesn't matter if they're based on CM.
there is Marvel rom, Zeus rom and many stable ones
but i would advice you go zeus
it's more helpful to tell him why you advice zeus..
i went almost immediately to a custom rom with my OB so i can't realy compare with the stock rom.
Zeus is my favorite, for my daily use it's is very stable.. i haven't got any problems but the only things i use is wifi, 3g, some browsing, sms, calling.. just the usual stuff. i'm not a very active user.
The things i like the most about zeus is the fact he realy improves the phone's ability. without giving in on stability.
With zeus you get great performance increase and stabilty.
I tried CM one time and it gave me nothing but problems.. instability like i had never seen before.. sudden reboots within a few hours.
maybe it's better now but why change something that's realy good, so i will stick to Zeus.
I can't tell you much about other roms because i haven't tried them very long.
if like you said its for your friend who is not really experimental well i would actually advice to flash marvel since its basically stock, but slightly modded, or if you really want to try zeus but want it to be almost foolproof you can try with the v3, i personally used the v3n (had probs with v4 & v5 and went back to v3) for the longest of time w/o any or with the least issues, prada/ supressed rom is also good but bluetooth is an issue (i think) delphin ive not tried...miui i havent tired it for very long so cant say much... there was gabwerkz echelon but for now its been TD, sapphire have not tired it long enough to comment much, wont recommend cm for now as i believe it would require quite abit of tinkering around....
or if you dont mind using froyo.... then nova is prolly the best best for most stable
but then again this is just my opinion.....
Or cook one on your own, or just flash the software available for you, then root it, take titanium backup, uninstall all the crap you dont need, maybe add a cust kernel of sergey, make/take a custom theme, another launcher, add another lockscreen and you already have your own custom ROM.
Have fun

SUPRESSED is a fully functional 100% working 135 MB ROM. no Bluetooth or any problems. very close to stock albeit without the bloatware.
and of the PRADA ROM port, i have fixed the BLUETOOTH to make it fully functional.
just need sometime to upload the ROM.
and SAPPHIRE ROM is also 100% problem free.
however, my PERSONAL fav is Zeus. it's a great one.
Hee sorry abt that bro.....

I would personally suggest you go with Zeus over Marvel, Both are great ROMs ofcourse ,however i had more available ram which could give us an edge when trying to play games..and the thing tat i liked abt Marvel is that it is totally custamizable
Thanks a lot for your feedback guys!
hiHIhi
There's a lot of ROM for you to choose... i guess all of the replied above made you some choice, for me i recommend you the Zeus if u want OC, gaming and better performance, I personally choose Marvel is because a lot of customization to be made, include various boot animation, launchers and widget to decide which to install =)
For stability choose zeus
Wanna do a lot of mod choose psycho36's selfkang8 + huexxx 4.1 kernel
I did use CM7.2 date 4.21 for a day and it seem it work better at night, when I don't use it for call but whenever a call is coming through it will just restart itself.
Well I ve been trying every rom, and i have decided that marvel and zeus are the best ones, i d recomend you to try both

[Q] TW based custom rom + remove samsung "bloatware"

Hello, lovely folks!
I am about to flash one of your great custom ROMs (the stable ICS ones, can't wait for JB), so I have a few last questions...
I will go either for a TW based ROM that also has all the things you normally get from Samsung that I don't find useful (social hub, music, and other apps whose third party versions/alternatives I find more stylish, better looking and more functional), but will compromise and risk having these unwanted extras hogging my memory.
Or, I would go (if possible!) for a TW based custom ROM (ICS) that has all the functionality, but either comes as almost stock, barebone Android with added S3, and SGN2 cool apps and selected features, BUT WITHOUT the Samsung unwanted apps, or comes with these too, but has the option of removing them, without risking the operability of the system/phone.
Now, I have narrowed my sight onto Sweet ROM, RocketROM, or maybe Kingdroid, or has that one been superseeded by the first two I mentioned.
Just a thought; why not make some sort of meter of popularity and rating of usability/stability of all ROMs for Note, within tw based, stock, and newest, round the corner, which is now JB? It would save you guys having to answer all the same questions all the time.
Thanks a lot!
My personal recommendation to you would be to flash Sweet Rom. It's the latest ics release available and much as the name implies, it's a very SWEET ROM! :good:

As far as bloatware is concerned, I usually download the rom, extract it using winrar, remove any unwanted or unnecessary apk's, zip it back up using winrar and then flash it to my device.
How do you do that? Can you do that without risking the stabilty of the phone. I mean when I even try and stop/close some samsung apps I get the message that it may cause problems.
Ok, so lets say I want to install Sweet ROM. So, I download it and unzip it, and then what? Is it just the matter of removing apk's? where do I find them? any tutorial on this kind of thing?
thanks again.
Sweet rom v5 has a lot of bloatware removed which you can add back if you want to in an extra zip file. Check out the sweet rom thread.
