[Q] Dropped SGA - cracked screen - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dropped it earlier on concrete, so is pretty damaged.
I believe it is only the glass screen that is broken as it responded to touch soon after incident, but hard to tell now as it just displays various different colours?
Will this fix it, regardless of whether the digitizer is broken?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Digitizer-I...EMBLY-EVERYTHING/dp/B005OYAUZW/ref=pd_cp_ce_0
I assume I can just follow that tutorial and fix it?
Many thanks,

Buy a galaxy gio, its pretty durable, dropped it on the screen 7 times and still working!!
Inviato dal mio GT-S5660 con XDA PREMIUM

I can't evaluate the damage from your description but I agree with pancakes. I dropped my gio so many times that it is amazing the screen survived!

If you have broken the gorilla glass, getting a replacement can be tough. Just ask the service centre guys!

It isn't, my Ace has Gorilla Glass i have dropped it a lot more than 25 times NOT A SCRATCH well except the back panel lol.
There are cheap Ace's floting around that don't have Gorilla Glass and are probably made with faulty parts.
THIS IS Gorilla Glass http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zv4Llv3UedY AND THIS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GyFt-8jUtx8 :victory:

I guess I have a faulty one, it scratches too fast.

Screen protector

Do you guys use any screen protector with your ace?? And which one?

Mumbi screenprotector, die perfect fit, easy to install, and screen surface feels smoother with it.

To say the ace screens don't use gorilla glass thats pretty damn impressive!
Check Corning's (Manufacturer of gorilla glass) website, they say Ace got their gorilla glass.

So there is no need to use protector?

I think YES!
I have my first scratch 2 month ago because of key..
for me it's still essential to use screenguard..
Got two little scratches, really dont know how that happend.
But a phone is for me an object of daily use, so thats not a big problem for me.
Maybe there's a difference between SGA that made in Korea and the one made in Vietnam?
I mean, Corning (the manufacturer of Gorilla Glass) itself said that Ace uses Gorilla Glass and I think the video above shows us enough about the scratch-resistance factor the Ace has.
Hmm strange :/
Using Gorilla Glas doesn't mean it's automatically absolutely scratch resistant. Even the oh so sturdy Defy can get scratches under certain circumstances, so I rather play it save and use a screen protector.

I've dropped my Ace few times and no scratches at all.
Does anyone know if the camera glass is made of scratch proof Gorilla Glass too?
I also agree with you.

I'm using a screenprotector from "Muvit" for Samsung Ace and it works perfect.
I'm also using the rubber case from it.

Zagg invisible shield apparently there use to cover helicopter rota blades to protect them from sand
I could only find a universal one had to cut a hole around the speaker. To apply it you have to use a liquid.
I dont use it, the ace screen seems very strong.

ZAGG invisible shield screen protector video review

Hi guys, just wanted to share this video I made reviewing ZAGG's invisible sheild for the samsung galaxy ace.
Overall it is a great product, and I will highly recommend it. The only problem being that it is not a perfect fit, nevertheless it feels great and it is one of the few that offers a complete protection to the front, the back and the sides.
It only retails for $15 if you only want the screen cover, and $25 if you want the full body.
You can purchase the product in their website: http://www.zagg.com/
I searched google and many users complain about the resistive touch effect of the shield..What can you say about that?..

Definately not Gorilla Glass

Just dropped my phone and there are some scratches on the edges (not the screen). But there is a frickin hole in the screen....luckily its a small hole.

Gorilla glass protects from minor scratches. It's not likely to sustain a meter drop.
It's not even anti-scratch you know, it's scratch "resistant"

Samsung galaxy Note and Note 2 got corning gorilla glass which is very very weak. 1 friend had 3 major scratches after 1 week of using his note 2. At my HTC gorilla glass is ok(tried with a cutter and keys). Gorilla glass is not made for drops., maybe scratches but no way for drops.

Its scratch resistant not breakage resistant.
Now best thing you can do is put it for sale n get the best bucks out of it.
Well, mine has survived some falls from more than 1m high and is still almost intact.

Glass is always glass the more hard the substance is the easy its breakable. No matter what u do. Even bullet proof glass also breaks. Thats why the windows in the jets and rockets are plastic.

AFAIK,,
Unlike the popular legend Gorilla Glass does not make your phone invulnerable. It could not be scratched by materials that have lower hardness level but can be easily scratched by materials with higher hardness level such as sand or diamond.
And hardness only protects it from scratch. It does not protects from breaking which depends on a lot of physic factor.
So next time protect your phone and don't expect it to be unbreakable. Even a diamond can be cut. Hope it helps
Gorilla Glass Myths
Watch this video first: http://youtu.be/TfgKLwGnOZs
Gorilla Glass is an amazing product, it has an amazing ability to not break when impacted on the face, but when that pressure is placed on the wrong edge the distribution of the force can cause the glass to shatter so violently that it releases a spark. Gorilla Glass is not scratch proof and has no real protection from scratching, they add a anti-scratch coating to the surface to protect it. If you did NOT have Gorilla Glass, the alternative would be plastic which would scratch easier. It's not always the distance that the device falls as it is the angle it hits and the surface it lands on. I realize that to most people this won't make much sense, but if you understand physics and how it applies to the molecular structure of modern glass it all makes sense. Corning spent years analyzing broken iphone screens to develop Gorilla Glass 2 and each time they increase the properties and reduce the situations where it will shatter, people come along and exert more force and then question the quality or specifications of the product. Regular glass would have scratched or broken under a significantly less violent impact.
I dropped my note from 3 ft height maybe thousand time and the screen is ok
maybe the surface you dropped your note on is too hard with direct drop on the screen caused that
and why you replace the whole screen !! I am sure that your screen is working and your touch screen also
it is just the gorilla glass layer that is broken
and the gorilla glasse even it resists scratches but it is not enough to keep me from installing screen protector
my device note 1 today 2 meter drop on hard tiles but nothing broken

Yup dropped it on a tarmac faced down. Any sorts of protection wont help, considering the weight. :banghead:

please stop dropping expensive stuff, any type of scratch resistant glass can scratch (in this case a grain of sand) or break (even heavily tested Iphone glass)
It is just less inclined to do so
edit: I fel for the troll trap, darnet. the next person also, as he managed to rephrase what i said, what also has been said before me. I dub my and his remark the infinate troll loop. These threads bring out the worst in me. I will have to tame the inner troll like the hulk. Not sure if I can blame the Christmas alcohol anymore.
If you drop a phone, it is very likely to break. So expect it to do so, and if it doesn't, next time it will, no matter which glass it is made of.

Also, dropping the phone (or any such electronic gadgets) may cause hardware malfunction..may be immediate effect or in a long run..

Moto G2 Gorilla Glass 3 Resistance

Hey guys i bought my phone like 5 months ago and a week later i bought a plastic screen protector.

Tempered glass feels just like gorilla glass, personally I've scratched the gorilla glass 2 and tempered glasses, small hard to notice scratches but the sand can scratch any screen

Same here. I've had mine for 7 months, dropped it on the floor, concrete, and everywhere you can imagine and no scratches. One thing that helps is the Tudia case I purchased on Amazon. It cushions very well in a drop and the slightly raised edge around the screen keeps the screen from contacting anything in case of a drop.
I'm using my phone for 5 months now without any protection, and I don't have any scratch on the glass.

Same here .Don´t drop it,if you have it in your pocket (better in your jacket, not your trousers) be sure that there´s nothing else in it, handle with care.
I like the feeling of the screen without protector but you have to be a bit careful then.

It's a low budget phone with a great glass on the screen, I'm not going to ruin the user experience with screen protectors..
Actually I used my Galaxy S2 in the same way and I only got some mini scratches on it. Gorilla Glass FTW.
