[Q] i9100xxKP8 busted my phone - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
This is my first time and I am wondering if someone can help. I have tried everything and nothings far.
I have SG SII few weeks ago someone mentioned that ICS was out so I googled it and followed the instructions which installed i9100xxKP8 4.0.3 version and at the first start the phone does not recognise any SIM card you put. I know I made the mistake not noted down the original firmware number etc.. But I am stuck I can't use Kies to upgrade to the proper O2 upgrade which is out.
Any help would be appreciate it before I bin this lovely phone .
Thank you
Wessam

Firstly this is the wrong forum this forum is for the Samsung Galaxy S (Not SII/2).
Luckily this is not a phone specific thing all that much.
To get your stock rom go to sammobile.com. Find the firmware that best matches your situation, i.e. country and provider. There are also downloadable instructions. Another thing you could do is go to your correct forum and look for the correct firmware.
To be clear all you have to do is install the stock firmware and your phone should be recognised by Kies. If this doesn't happen then you may have to make another post in the correct thread. A fix you could try (not sure this will work on S2) is type *#262*your imei# and select the correct csc code (Changing the code will reboot your phone and perform a factory reset). Also find this on the sammobile.com website, i think letter codes or something.

Is it possible...

I installed the Gingerbread update off samfirmware on my samsung galaxy s but i would like to go back to the official firmware for vodafone UK so i can just continue updating through Kies, is it possible and if so how??
Sorry if this is in the wrong place but i have been searching the net for ages and i can't find anything and all i keep seeing is this site so i thought you guys might be able to help me.
Reinstall the original firmware you saved .
Another one that did not save then you might find somebody with firmware saved .
Or you flash stock rom via Odin use registry spoof method to try to update to Vodaphone current firmware .
Kies only updates original firmware .

It is quite simple. Disable any lagfix or ext4 conversion (if any) back to RFS. Flash via ODIN with preferably 512 pit & repartition (it will save you a lot of time & less opportunity of errors appearing afterwards). I would also suggest you to make a backup of your data & do a factory reset before flashing back.....
On youtube are many tutorials how to flash back to your stock rom.
example:
search: samsung galaxy s flash stock rom
-> the first video
stock roms you can download in this forum
I do not have the original VodaFone Firmware, That's why i need to change this current firmware so i can update it via Kies to the original Vodafone uk firmware, i do not know nothing about lag fixes or anything, i just used odin to update my phone to V2.3.3, i followed simple instructions to do it, it was my first time doing anything to my phone, i know i should of read into it etc....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723596
Basic faqs .
Roll back to 2.2.1 from Beta 2.3 Gingerbread .
Post 2 but you are as always at risk of bricking your phone .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033781
Kies will only update stock 2.2 .1 to Vodafone firmware if you spoof the registry as posted .It will not update to Gingerbread until Gingerbread is released .

I'm not very good at these things and i know i shouldn't of done it in the first place but i don't understand those instructions, is there no way anyone has it or can get it for me? or extract it from there phone or something like that?
No nobody seems to bother keeping original firmware >Try a Google search for Voda firmware .
Flash back to stock Eclair 2.1 and try below to spoof Kies.
http://www.appbrain.com/app/spooffw/com.johnan.spooffw
That fails then your update path is via Odin .

Hi, thanks alot for your time to reply to me, i have currently rooted and i have SpoofFW but when it says choose preset i dont have any in the drop down box and i need a Vodafone uk one, any help here mate?
I have posted the codes you should use in SpoofFw thread, but here you go again.
The codes can be found in the presets as UK (Vodafone) and is
Product Code: GT-I9000HKDVOD
PDA: I9000BUJG2
CSC: I9000VODVOD
Phone: I9000BUJG1
An alternative is to use Check Fus Downloader with which you can download the latest official firmware for UK Vod (I9000BUJS3) and flash that file with Odin. The app can be found in my signature.
Hi, thanks alot mate, can you please guide me through how to do it as when i try and find the preset on your app, there is none there! just blank, so i tried typing it all in and following instructions but it hasn't worked could you please explain?
It still says... This device cannot be updated and still gives me my normal product code etc...

make sure you are connected to internet when you start the app, and try use Refresh preset in the menu. also make sure you have busybox installed.
first hit Backup. put the info above in the fields. and hit step 2 ok. Then press reboot, and start the app again. put the same info as before in the fields and hit ok on step 3. Conenct to Kies.
you can send me your complete log right after hitting step1 button if anything goes wrong.

[Q] Kies Not Showing the Newest Open European Firmware for my Note

I recently purchased a Galaxy Note (Unlocked) and am loving the device. I was reading online that there was a newer open european firmware (LA3) but was perplexed as my phone was saying there are no upgrades for it. I installed Kies (the UK version) and it updated it's self to 2.2 yet it still does not show any newer firmware than what is on my phone (KKA).
Is there a way to force Kies to let me update? or am I missing a step (I never did create a samsung account).
Thank you in advance...
Hi there,
I also recently purchased a Note, and have been spending FAAAR tooo much time lurking on this forum trying to work out whats what with rooting/roming and all things GNote.
Fairly new to all this android malarky and tbh i'm kinda just responding to your question as a way to clarify what, i have, thus far, gleaned from by lurksome xda ways! And as an attempt to stop lurking so much and try and give back some of the understanding xda has given me.
Your question is something I was also rather confused by, but from what I understand - It seems that Samsung rolls out OTA and Kies updates to phones with different CSC codes at different times.
I think it is only the German (DBT) phone which has had the latest LB1 update. I know that my XEU phone is also still on KKA, with no ota or kies updates available.
From what I understand, the way one gets the updates without rooting is through flashing them with a Windows app called PC Odin with the phone in download mode.
Or via rooting your KKA rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
and then flashing the updated firmware with either Mobile Odin or Clockwork Mod.
In all cases I believe you must download the firmware from either the sammobile site or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
If any (or all!) of that is totally wrong - please someone with greater experience wade in and put me straight, but I just thought that seeing as no-one else had responded - i'd try and make something of all the hrs i've spent lurking on here since i got this phone
Anyhow I'm sure if you just follow the links i've posted to the brilliant work of Dr Ketan - you won't go far wrong
Personally, I've not actually put any of this to the test yet - wanna make sure I really do know my arse from my elbow or in this case - my dalvik from my build.prop before I go messing with a £500 phone....

I appreciate the help to answer your question you are in part correct (from what I can gather). Samsung does issue updates based on CSC codes and there is nothing for the UK CSC code. However they also release what is called open updates. Meaning any carrier in a given country can use a open update for that country. Beyond that they release what is called open European updates that any unlocked phone in Europe can use.
My question is the latest open European update is LXA or LLA or something like that which is farther along than the KK5 I am on. Since it is open European I should be able to update to it I would think. There could be something to the fact that the UK is considered part of the EU so it might not fall under even an open European release and if that is the case than so be it.
I am just trying to find out why my unlocked international version of the note can not seem to update to the latest open European update
Ok, so from the sounds of it - i think your definitely better informed than me on Samsung update protocol
Haven't heard any of that before. I was under the impression that the XEU code was the unlocked open euro code....
Anyway, just thought i'd let u know that i took the plunge today - deciding that I trusted XDA more than Samsung to update my phone
Rooted my stock KKA rom using dr ketans posts as my guide, then flashed the stock LB1 firmware and have since flashed Franco's kernel.....all seems well so far
Although one thing i did notice is that my Antutu score was significantly lower after flashing Lb1, but before flashing Franco's kernel (haven't tested since)....
Anyway good luck waiting for an official update - in my limited experience - I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for OEM's to issue OTA updates...

This is cool. But how to find whether my phone is locked or not?
And what about if we try to involve the Samsung support on this question? I'm also stuck with kk5 and i'm also in Europe.

If you want to know what region your phone is from plug it into the computer after you have installed samsung kies. Once you do if you look at the screen for your phone you will see three sets of letters and numbers. The last one in the string will have your CSC once you get that do a google for where it is from.
If you are on kk5 like me then you probably have a UK code.
An phone is unlocked by default when you import it from Europe as they use a different model for cell carriers than we do in the states.
The simple way to get the latest updates is....change your CSC with *#272*imei# in the dialer pad to the lastest update ( csc)! You don't need root or odin or mobile odin. Just change your country code. This will wipe your phone...but after restart you will get a promt to update your software as soo. As wou are connected to a wifi. There are many post about it...the csc change is described in sgs2 foruns and all over the net. About the country code, please visit sammobile.com and in firmware section you will find detailed info about those codes.
P.S. My note was originaly in XEH ( open Hungary), I'm from Romania so I changed my CSC to Open Germay (DBT-debitel) and after restart i got 2 consecutive updates.
Hope to help, sorry for my bad english

The easiest way to get updates is via XDA. Download PC Odin, and choose whatever Rom you fancy from the first sticky thread in Note development.

[Q] Galaxy Mini GPS not working

This is probably a very common problem but I have unusual circumstances. I have a Galaxy Mini that I bought in Thailand, I flashed CWM and installed the "Democracy" ROM and had no problems at all with the GPS. I decided to go back to the stock firmware, only problem was I didn't have it! So I went here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1551586) I didn't see the code that's printed on my phone's box on this page so I FOOLISHLY downloaded a European firmware (I figured it would be better to have writing in English than Thai).
Ever since I flashed that via Odin my GPS can't even find satellites even without locking on. I can only figure that this change to European firmware has changed a necessary file for the GPS. I went back to the Democracy ROM and still no GPS.
I just can't seem to find my original firmware that is printed on my phone's box (GT-S5570AABTHL), I didn't get the original PDA or CSC code (LESSON LEARNED!). The closest I can find is here:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=8&view=4933
I do remember when I was running original firmware it was S5570B and that is the only result under the S5570B Thailand option. I can't figure out why under "Region" it says Cyprus, Greece when it's titled Thailand.
I just don't know if simply flashing back to the Thai firmware is going to solve my problem or not, I don't even know if this is the right firmware! I would download it and try it but I'm currently on 2G speeds so it will take me 3 hours to download the file just to test it, so I was hoping for a response from this site before I put myself through the agony of the long wait.
Am I on the right path here? Any help will be severely appreciated.
Flash the original country's software i.e. from where you bought it. B'coz if you flash another country's firmware, your GPS wont work. Kies also creates problem (in updates...) in most of these cases.

[Q] Present, past and still a future (with no product code)?

Hello,
I am new to mess around with mobile phones and Android and (therefore) also managed to bring my girlfriend's GT-I8190 phone to a non-working state. Although there are lots of information in this forum I am more confused than sure what to do. I hope to get here some help / information / explanation.
Past
The phone was bought in Germany and had probably a German firmware. But I do not know, since no connections to Kies or whatsoever and no backups where done earlier. After a error of Android (e:\ failed to mount or something similar) which blocked the phone on the startup logo of the non-modyfied S3 mini, my guess for a quick solution was to flash the firmware with Odin to a new(er) German version. I downloaded (from a German forum) and flashed successfully several versions (supposedly OXA). But with all version the network connection hasn't practically worked. Only very weak and only at a few locations. Once I used in desperation also a so called stock-recovery from somewhere.
Present
I visited a shop where the uber-friendly Samsung service overwrote the firmware first with the general and later with the LaFleur version (PDA: XXAMG4, CSC: QXXA MH1). Kies tells me the CSC is somehow a VE1 version (what country is that code for - moon?). But the problem hasn't changed.
I still have the original IMEI, but I'm missing the baseband and, what worries me more: no product code. I managed to read it out only with "CheckFus" which says only: Not Active1
Future ?
Since I probably haven't used the right firmware at least once, I am hesitating to do more. My ideas are as following: modem, firmware, baseband.
What is the best way to proceed? Is there still a easy solution? I don't mind to change to another version - no stock firmware is required. Am I close to have a 4" tablet?
Any answer is appreciated - thanks!

I8190XXAMG4 / QXXAMH1 is a German La Fleur firmware. I have no idea why your CSC seems to be messed up. It should probably be DBT.
What does it say if you dial *#1234# in dialer?
Thanks for the infos so far.
I did not intend to link to the LaFleur version in the first post.
Do I need the root recovery for the baseband update?
With the 1234 code I get:
AP: I8190 XXAMG4
CP: XXXX
CSC: I8190 QXXAMH1
I think this is the same as mentioned before. I checked the origin of the files I used before on this mobile and it is possible that I used this a recovery file which may be for a 8190N (I cannot post the outside link yet). I did not read careful enough the thread linking to this file.
Can this be the origin for the messed CSC version and the missing product code?
Looks like you're without baseband.
Take a look at this thread and flash a modem for i8190.

Happy end
Hello again,
firstly: Problem is solved - phone works properly. Thanks for the replies and to tys0n for the work with the files and the support - acutally doing the job of Samsung and google.
For the sake of completeness, I will tell what I did, if any unexperienced user (as I still am) will ever come across this thread:
I tried first just the standard firmware AMG4 from Sammobile (which is linked above) and afterwards the baseband files - but both did not help as expected.
I installed CWM and used the file from here and miraculously it was working (The phone is used only in 2G). Later I wiped the data and flashed again with the AMG4 firmware to have a clean version now.
AP, CP, CSC say all XXAMG4 now, Kies recognizes it as DBT (as supposed to). But the product code, which came back and was read out with CheckFus, says I8490 RWA XSE. This should be Indonesia, correct? Is there still an inconsistency somewhere?
Thanks again for the help
Robert
