[Q] Music player works only on stock rom - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I seem to have an unusual SGS problem...
My music player plays mp3's via headphones only while using stock rom. I've tried stock, branded 2.3.6, newest MIUI and Darky 10.2 (a bit earlier: Cyanogenmod). In every single one the music player stops playing mp3's and system sounds via headphones just after flashing. Music plays normally on stock, kernels don't seem to make a difference.
Has anyone come across such problem? Googling doesn't seem to help...

Chance .....?
Well you should Start checking several things and after that the SOLUTION appears.
1-First upgrade your SGS to latest official android which is 2.3.6.
Find a firmware which you can root easily.
2-After flashing completed and before booting the operating system enter CWM.
3-Do not Factory Reset, simply Wipe Dalvik Cache & Battery Status.
4-Download custom ICS 4.0.3 RC 3 firmware for SGS from:
http://www.hlusoe.info:5000/hotfile/141757929/hlusoe.info_ICS_4.0.3_r1-RC3-I9000.zip
After Flashing finished, check and report back.
<<<Good LUCK>>>

I'm not so eager to install an ICS ROM in unstable state. Do you think this would solve problems with installing MIUI? Is this a bug fixed by ICS?

I'm reviving this thread after almost a year, but since my sgs started getting slower and slower, and the ICS roms started getting more and more stable I decided to flash a custorom once again...
So far I've tried flashing:
-CM 10.0
-Paranoid Android 2.54
-[jOP40D] OFICIAL ANDROID 4.2.1 <RC2>
-CM 7.1
None of those roms solves my problem - the loudspeaker doesn't work (most of the time). When I try to play music or sound an alarm I can hear silent white noise, as if the loudspeaker was powered on, but nothing more. Interestingly the loudspeaker works perfectly normal when I try to use it during a call.
The loudspeaker works perfectly normal on stock rom installed using this guide, both rooted and unrooted. It also works on this 2.3.6 rom, rooted and unrooted.
Before flashing I restored to 2.3.5 via odin (1.82 and 3.07), I followed guides as closely as possible. Usually I flashed roms using cwm. I tried changing as many sound related settings on each of those roms as possible - the whole testing process took me about 2 days.
Does anybody have an idea what to try next?

[Q] How to use ROM Managar - Please Help

Hi,
I've just downloaded ROM Manager free from Market.
I need to update to froyo without connecting to PC (I don't have UPS and power shut downs are common in my area. Moreover, installing from phone seems to be simple).
I've clicked Flash to Clockwork Mod Recovery. And Have backedup Current ROM.
How do i update now?
I have downloaded a XXJPU firmware from sam-firmware.com
It consists of the following files
GT-I9000-CSC-MULTI-OXAJPU.tar.md5
I9000XXJPU-REV03-PDA-low-CL747761.tar.md5
MODEM_I9000XXJPU.tar.md5
s1_odin_20100512.pit
Are these files enough to update through ROM Manager? If yes, where should i place these files and how do i proceed?
Please help - have been in stock firmware since I've bought. (No Froyo nor gingerbread, because of my lack of knowledge )
Thanks in advance!
The files which you have mentioned can only be updated through Odin or Heimdall which requires computer access.
The only way which I know that you can flash through ClockworkMod recovery is through custom firmwares. Bear in mind that the custom firmware which I'll be providing the link to is Froyo (2.2.1)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=814091
Follow the "Clean guide" which shows how to install that custom firmware with the highest percentage of success.
(JUST follow step 4, the part where you need to transfer the custom ROM into your phone and NOT the part about CWM "update .zip" since you already have clockworkmod recovery)
And then, jump/skip all the way to step 12 and follow the procedures from there normally.
I assume that you have a clean eclair ROM which does not have any tweaks/lagfixs (such as Voodoo etc.)
Hope this helps.
Thanks man.
I'm really afraid of using custom ROMs...
If only there was an easy way to update to official ROMs...
Anyway, i'm going to try this Darky's ROM. Hope it is not filled of bugs.
Installed Darky's ROM. Thank you and Darky. I finally got froyo.
ROM Seems to be super fast. But lags(gets stuck in some apps) more frequent than eclair
And seems to have bugs
Like for example: Defauly Music Player is not working properly.
Also lost default Galaxy S lockscreen (though i can get than using an android market app)
Not sure about battery though.
Problem solved. Will be replying in Darky's thread about the bugs...

When you go from eclair to froyo, a factory reset is a must otherwise you will stuck with force closes and crashing apps, make sure you back up your apps, contacts and text messages then preform a factory reset after that your sgs will run fast and smooth buddy.
Then there is this battery issue, with costum rom your battery will drain quicker, so do a full charge then reboot into recovery and search for battery stats and do a battery wipe, this will add some more power to your battery.

There's a version 6.0 from Darky

Follow the steps from the new "Installation guide" and remember to do step 7 if you think that your phone is not performing up to par.
Make sure to back up your stuff onto your internal or external SD-card before proceeding and follow ALL the steps shown there

[Q] Issues installing a 2.3.3 RomKitchen ROM

Hello.
So I've used Doc's ROMKitchen for both a custom 2.1 and 2.2.1 ROM and things ran generally smooth.. a pair of issues with the 2.2. one but errors that were my own to start with.
Now I tried to upgrade to 2.3.3 but unfortunately the experience hasn't been so smooth.
I flashed a stock ROM (First JVO then at a later phase, JV5), full factory reset, installed a Kernel (SpeedMod), installed the Doc ROM - And it's here that problems start. First it's the wizard that crashes... I was able to work around it, but I wonder if this is a sign of problems or it's nothing to worry about.
The biggest concern however is how no applications from those that I selected are installed, not even MTP control, along with the fact that I seem to not having any of the sounds installed or something.
I figure this may be related to either how I cooked the ROM or installed it, but would like to know if anyone else felt the same issue and knew how to fix it.
Thanks.

[Q] Galaxy S reboots by itselft, NO SOLUTION FOUND

Hi,
I have bought a Samsung Galaxy GT-I9000 six months ago. It always restarts by himself or crashes. And I've still couldn't find the problem. I have already tested with: Gingerbread 2.3.5, 2.3.6 and Cyanogen 7.1 and 7.2 RC1. What happens is that with Gingerbread it restarts autmatically while on the Cyanogen it only crashes and I need to remove the battery and reinsert it.
I've taken my phone to a Samsung technician. He said that my battery was with 90% of its capacity, the memory and processor were tested and they are ok. He said that it wasn't any hardware problem.
His conclusion was that Android wasn't a good OS, and that is happens with all phones. But if the hardware is OK, and I've hard resetted many times, installed a lot of differents OS, why does the problem still persists? It just doesn't make any sense.
The interesting part is that when the phone has few application, the phone works fine. It only start restarting when I install 10 applications from market, for instance. If I have 3 apps installed, it may reboot but much less frequently.
In your opinion, was the conclusion of the technician correct?
I've encountered similar problem a long time ago. At that time I deleted the apps , and then rebooted the phone, one by one and finally the SGS works fine again without a certain app. So try to find out which app crashed your phone.
App is not responsable for the reboot
Well, I don't think this issue is related to a specific application. Because the technician also noticed the problem when he installed a lot of applications that he has chosen without knowing my apps.
Besides that I am using the common ones like: Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube, Gmail, Google Maps, Skype, and BBC News. They are all updated. I don't think any of them has a bug that resets the phone.
My Phone will reboot by itself sometimes when i enable wifi
This has only started since Darky's 10.2 (JVQ kernel) has been installed on my phone. I have since installed ICSSGS 4.2 with semaphore 0.91 (no reboots) and are now back on stock (factory/carrier) gingerbread ROM and rebooting occurs when wifi is enabled sometimes.
Try cm9. I used to get random reboots on gingerbread roms but since being on cm9 I haven't had one. Current using the latest nightly with stock kernel and have been running since build 7. Battery life is great and is stable. I highly recommend

Something is dodgy, imho, backup all apps using Titanium, wipe phone, wipe caches, factory reset, then install stock gb, say jw4 using odin with pit file and repartition, hard reset again, then root using latest semaphore kernel. Remove usual bloatware, then Restore apps 1 by 1 to see what's causing the problem. Think its always best to start from scratch. Backup efs folder, and sms etc first.

Wait guys, you are using the terms I don't know.
About the comment: "then install stock gb, say jw4 using odin with pit file and repartition, hard reset again, then root using latest semaphore kernel. ", I have some questions:
What's stock gb? What is jw4? Can you send me a link about how to do so or where I can download jw4? There is semaphore kernel and stock kernel? What is the difference between them? The original kernel is not good? Why do I need to install it?
The other commend was: "Current using the latest nightly with stock kernel". I will try that. But how can I install cm9 with stock kernel? Could you send me a link with the steps?
About the comment: "I have since installed ICSSGS 4.2 with semaphore 0.91 (no reboots) and are now back on stock (factory/carrier)". Never used Ice Cream Sandwich for Samsung Galaxy S. How can I install it with semaphore 0.91? Is this OS better than Gingerbread and Cyanogen?
Sorry about the stupid questions,

freezes on calls

Hi, I have seen similar questions but no real answers. I have a Galaxy S rooted and on a MIUI gingerbread rom with Glitch 13.1 kernel. Phone works perfectly on this rom. Now my problem is I want to install ICS roms, in which I have successfully. Every single 1 of them run smooth except when a call comes in. It freezes up the phone, weirdly enough if you have a set of headphones plugged in it does not freeze. Stock firmware also had same issue. The MIUI rom with glitch kernel do not have these issues. My question is, could there be something in the kernel or the rom that could be transfered into an ICS rom? Or is there something else goin on?

I started having that issue with CM9 and i'm now running Helly Bean and i'm still having the same issue has you are. The only way I can answer a call without having my phone freezing for 30 seconds is to have a headset connected. I've tried a few different modems, cleared my phone.apk cache, flashed numerous times with data wipes and I'm still having this issue.
I noticed yesterday that my IMIE was wrong so I deleted my /efs/ directory and re-installed a backup that I had and now my phone has the right IMIE.
Basically, just wanted to know what you ended up doing with this issue or if anyone has another suggestion.
BTW, I can't use odin to flash a new modem since my phone also doesn't want to connect via usb (download mode / adb / odin).
if you got your,, IMEI, flash stock rom with pit512 and re-partition, PDA, modem, csc, I hope that download works? Uninstall Kies, if you just give the driver and samsung, if you can not download help, jig, or instructions are on the forum.

Got a cm7 to work also with glitch 13.1 but now it hangs a little to try and hang up but answers fine now. But not 1 issue with Miui gingerbread rom and glitch 13.1 works like new but dont care much for rom so had to do lots of customizing with different apps.

WiFi lag / freeze with Spotify whatever rom I flash.

Hello. I have this i9000 that freezes for a minute everytime I try so use spotify.
This happens with every android version, rom or kernel I put into.
Also, with every spotify version that matches the android version running on the phone.
Also freezes no matter if an external sdcard inserted or not.
I've tried full wipes, resets, repartitions...
Anyone has been in the same situation? Thanks.
Now it's running official 2.3.6 with semaphore kernel 2.7.4 but as said, it does the thing with a lot of roms I've tried.
