this solution was found in the nexus one android development in xda. so i dont take credit for this... but it worked on my nexus ...
have d new cyanogen eclair rom on it,
but i got 20 hrs of battery n still have 50 %.
mild texting and calls, took a 4 min video, uploaded it to youtube, downloaded 5-6 apps, mild surfing, tried the new mozilla fennec browser(lame), and the dolphin hd browser(superb!!)
had setcpu min & max 1180mhz
so... this is a good fix!
here is the link to the original thread on xda nexus one page
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=670999
basically, what u have to do is
go to settings, about phone, battery, battery use, cell standby, tap on cell standby and you will find 'time without signal' (if your phone has been ON for atleast 30 mins). if this is more than 30 %, thats whats draining ur battery.
(see attached pic)
so..
1) Goto dialer and dial *#*#4636#*#* (DO NOT press send)
wait a second and you will get the test menu.
2) In the test menu choose 'Phone Information'
3) scroll down and choose on the first drop down -GSM only or cdma only or wcdma only. whatever you choose, wait 5 seconds and look on ur notif bar if u get ur 3g back (or E).
4) Back all the way out.
5) You might want to reboot, but I found the settings worked straight away.
after you reboot, wait like an hour or so and go back to settings, about phone.. blah blah and find 'time without signal'. if it is lower than what u saw before... it worked!!!!
mine was 44% before and after it was 0%
and i used cdma only.
but to round up..
gsm only - best battery, less speed
cdma only - good battery, fastest internet
gsm auto or cmda auto - good battery, fastest internet
try this out guys... c if it works!
-this trick does not work after some reboots, so you might have to do this between 3 or 4 reboots. until somebdy finds an app for this..
This really did fix my signal issue that I was having. I will have to see about the battery later.
this wont fix any network or signal issues..
only for the battery

EVDO is Verizon's 3G technology. But EVDO is also CDMA. LOL
And I have tried both on my incredible and both standby's percentage is still extremely highest.
I already miss my moto droid running at 1.2Ghz
ok.. try cdma(prl) only... and let is stay for an hour after reboot... then chek for time without signal

Going to Battery Info will give the battery temperature for those who fear that theirs gets too warm when used heavily. This way there's a more tangible reference.
I had actually done this days ago to try and help with my signal by setting it to cdma instead of auto so it wouidnt constantly search for best signal. Having come across this thread I notice my time after 13 hrs is without signal 1% and cell standby is 37% but I will monitor this closely because I traveled last night and my phone was on airplane mode. I still think the battery is not that good. I also noticed that phone idle and standby uses more battery than I actually do.

It's strange, but mine says "Time on: 2h 8m 28s" but nothing about time without signal. Is it safe to say I'm already okay without making any changes?

You need to give more info then that.
What version of rom you using?
Which kernel/version you using?
What apps have you installed?
Do you use wifi/gps?
Did you use search before creating topic?
btw, you dont need to manually type [q] in your title. "[Q]" automatically gets added when you enable the "Is this a question" feature when creating topic.

i'v 144 Apps .. neither the widgets .. do you want me to name it all .. idk someone did that before right .. btw i don't use the Tab during am writing this comment but its still sucks the battery ..
and yes i use WIFI .
overcome tell us the solution for the battery life . but the solution didn't work with me
anyways thanks for ur reply .
btw i didn't type [q] i just thick the ' Is this a question ' ... tnx for your advice ..
I have actually noticed a decline in battery life since I flashed to Overcome. In the few days, before I flashed my tab, I could idle the tab for 10 hours and use like 2% battery. After flashing overcome, I cant get no where near that idle time, and I get just under 10% per hour full usage (games or video playback).
I'm using Overcome 1.6.1, no live backgrounds, and somewhere around 85 apps.

Strange, Ive never had a battery issue on any of the builds, even when overclocked. Its got to be something you have installed and running in background.
Go to settings>phone>about>battery use and it will tell you what using most battery. There is also programs like SystemPanel or Taskkiller etc.
If the [Q] wasn't capitalised then you must have tried to title your topic all i capitals so site reversed it, next time title topics properly

1st of all . the battery charges take so many time to charge full even though if its 95 its take around 15 to 20 mins to full charge .. and when i take the charge it give 99 even if its says the charge full ..
if my tab is off screen its also suck my battery life seriously .. i don't use live wallpaper i only use a normal image .. i don't know what is the problem .. am really thinking to replace overcome .. the prob is i like overcome even if it doesn't support arabic
any ideas
I never got any problems with the battery life in all Overcome roms.
Currently i use Overcome 1.6.1 with 2.1.4 kernel and battery life is good.
Idle overnight with WiFi enabled it uses 6%
Idle overnight with my dataplan it uses 3% and idle time is approx 12 hours.
In the idle time i have my Gmail synced, twitter, weather ect
In full use and full display light i can use my Tab for approx 6 hours.
I have to mention that my Tab is not Oc-ed

i just woke up the battery is full and its showing its full
what comes in my mind now
i turn off the tab to charge and see .. i off the tab i plug again the charger and guess what ... its still charge since 10mins
i'll do again wipe battery status and see .. this is the 4th time i'll do the wipe for battery .... i don't know what is the prob
so i wipe the battery but nothing happen .. so i just backup all the stuff ... going to re flash again
wipe data , wipe factory reset ...
flash again the rom and the kernel ...
.... i hate my tab cuz every week something new need to flash need to wipe need to reset
EDIT .. flashed again with wipe factory and factory rest and nothing happen after i flashed the kernel and the rom
My battery seems to drain fast too
I updated to Kernel 2.15 and Overcome 1.63 last night. It seems to drain 1% every 1.5-2 minutes when I use it with WIFI and 3G on. It drained 6% last night over 6 hours on standby mode (after I shortly pressed the power key).

I know there are some Gallery issues which drains your battery after using it.
But other then that i think some people expecting to much to fast to see some battery life progress on custom roms.
On the first fresh install i had also a drain.
You have to be aware that after a fresh rom install you have to let the battery settle for a couple off charges.
Yesterday i also took a complete reinstall by the guide provided in the Overcome thread.
I did this because i have some issues with FC's on receiving gmails.
After that fresh install and restoring my apps ect.
I went playing with it, first i did 2 hours of surfing over wifi.
Later playing Black Pegasus Modern Combat for 3 hours.
I started of with 67% battery and didn't have the battery calibrated
So after 5 hours of heavy use the Galaxy Tab battery was empty.
This morning i calibrated the battery.
And after a full cycle charge in 2 hours i didn't touch my Tab at all.
After 4 hours i still have 97% battery left.
It is common that when you take your from the charger it instantly drops to 99% (No worry)
So 2% lost in 4 hours in idle standby with 3g on and syncing XDA app every 15min, Twitter every 5 min, email every 30min, Gmail (Push), weather every hour.
I think it's battery life is great.
Beware the screen of our Tab's are using a great deal of battery life.
Even 50% brightness sucks your battery empty.
I have it set on 30% which is good for use in the evening.
Daytime and sunlight it sucks at 30% but since i never use my Tab outside it will work for me.
Hello!
I cant imagine that the battery is draining because of overcome rom or kernel. Since i flashed it my battery life is suprisingly good, even when overclocked!

Same here...
I know there is a Gallary 3d issue when using it your battery is draining.
Alterbridge is working on that.
If people followed the flash and battery calibrate guide Overcome should have a nice battery life.
I don't know what apps people are using at the moment but it could be an app which is poorly written.
guys im flashing overcome even before the guide posted ...
and about the live wallpaper .. i don't use it .. because i use a honeycomb theme
and about the calibrate of the battery i already did it many times from overcome guide or even from the apps in market .. i knw wat am doing .. i never get on in something that i don't know wat exactly means ...
cheers
Hi all,
I'm and oldbie that has installed allmost all the roms that avilable to milestone.
last one was ICS from kabaldan, wich i find it working very slow..
before i was at CM7 for allmost half a year and it was working good but not fast as all mantiond here..
than i moved to cm6 6.3.8.. Perfect Speed allmost, 0 stucks, stable and look nice.
but the batterry is draining like no tomorow..
i found myself with 10% Bat on the late afternon without and spesific stuff..
any sagustions?
thanks :>
Try turning off 3G in Mobile Networks. I believe this thing fixed this problem on my phone.
but when i was at CM7 the 3g was working non stop ..
why is there a big differance?
I have no idea, honestly. Did this fix the issue?
Nop this dident fix it..
the battery usage is on display (?!) and android OS (that i btw removed a few of apks that was causing battery drain on the android os menu)
Install CPU Spy from the Market and see whether the device is going to deep sleep or it's staying at the min frequency.
so ive been at this all day reading and searching these forums with no luck.
i have a droid one, running 2.2.3 FRK76, bought the phone used. says it has kernel version 2.6.32.9-g68eeef5. no clue what this is.
have tried to root with superoneclick with rageagainstcage option clicked. also tried the one click some one had posted on this site in one of the forums. Sd card is unmounted. debugg mode is selected. and i cant get past first time it says waiting for device. what do i do?
Also try better battery stats and see if an app is running a lot. Different phone, but I had save problem and it read google maps check in service. Also did you calibrate your battery it helps

I dunno whether it is a battery problem or what but I got a brand new battery
coz the last battery was too bad but the new battery also sucks.
I was wondering if it was cause of the ROM and kernel so
I switched to stock rom for trial purpose and still I got juz like barely 7 hours of juice....
with juz some files thru bluetooth and half an hour or so of texting....
so what could be causing the problem?
Here's the battery stats...

I'm not really an expert on this... but I'll try!
First, data - depending on how often your apps that use data refresh, it may be killing your battery because they are always updating in the background
Next, apps - depending on how many are open, and trying to retrieve info or a responce, this may be killing your battery life
Another, backlight brightness - I would say half brightness looks almost the same as full brightness, so turn that down too. Another thing you can do is make sure that your phone times out so the screen is always on and sucking the life out of your battery
Plus, bluetooth and wifi - turn those off when you aren't using them! They turn on in a couple of seconds so there is no use in just leaving them on and draining your battery.
Lastly, I dunno what "kik" is (the app running in the corner of the status bar) but it may be using battery too (probably not because it isn't in the list of the battery use so I don't think that's it.
Anyways, in short, possibly shut off the data if you don't always use it (you don't have to tho ), go into the settings of apps, and get the refresh rate at a longer period of time (so they aren't always using data), kill any open apps if you can with an app manager, turn down the brightness of backlight, change the time it takes to shut off the backlight, and shut off the bluetooth and wifi when you aren't using it.
Unfortunatley the battery life on the Ace is far from the best, if anything it's terrible, but other than that I have very few issues with the phone.
Well... That's my two cents. Hopefully it helps, but if not, search around on the forums and see if you can find any other solutions. :fingers-crossed: I'm not the expert, but I'm trying to throw ideas out there. Good luck
Running background processes is a major battery kill. I used to get 12h+ on 3G with Stocklite V6. Never used heavy apps though. Just Textplus, Opera Mini to check fb sometimes and WhatsApp whenever someone talked to me. Light usage.
How much the battery lasts depends on the user completely.

It's rlly helpful...
but

and no wifi and mearge usage of bluetooth....

and Kik is juz like whatsapp, a messaging app....
and it's quite lightweight, been using it since uite some time...
3. Backlight is at an always 25% and screen timeout 30 secs....
so juz wanna know if there's a possibility of some hardware fault......
coz I've tried most things possible to take out the software fault if any....

Wait, i just forgot!...
I get this too sometimes, but what might help is if you reset your battery stats! I have to do this too because I found that after a half an hour after unplugging my phone with no use I lost 10% battery life, for no apparant reason. Search in the Play Store "BatteryCalibration". All you have to do is charge your phone to 100%, and tap the button . You usually have to do this after flashing a new ROM, because you might not flash it at 100% battery life and the stats go from there. So I would say, try it and see what happens.
Now... If not... The only other suggestion I have is if you find a battery booster app such as "Juice Defender" from the Play Store. I tried using it, but didn't see a huge difference (I don't have data, so I just keep it off), probably because I barely use my phone. I've also heard some thing about a script called "v6 Super Charger" (I've only heard of it, please search it if you want to know more because I sure don't ). Aparantly it boosts battery as well, but no promises haha.
If you are really desperate for better battery life, I would say switch to 2g service in the settings. Other than that.... I'm out for now
Hopefully this might help you out as well, but other than that the Ace is not well known for a good battery. But that's a mid range phone for you (but the Ace ain't no slouch either)
Anyway, goodluck!

Ok, so after looking around a little, I found a very interesting thread about Lithium-Ion batteries! Really cool and really worth the read! I learned quite a bit. Hopefully this answers any additional questions that I wasn't able to answer!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=669497
Try also eliminating any widgets or live wallpapers that you may have running. These might keep the processor running at a higher speed then neccessary, but no promises.... Plus I already mentioned closing apps you don't need (so this is pretty much the same woops) and you might have done it already.
The biggest thing to remeber is that you have to sacrifice performance for the best battery life. This may go as far as underclocking your maximum CPU speed, but this might cause some lagging especially at the startup. I think that this should be a last resort to be honest, because you still want to use a phone, and not a laggy device that you are trying to conserve as much battery as possible.
I also heard something about the motherboard possibly having a hardware fault in it causing excess discharge... But... I will need to do a little more searching to see if I can figure this out for you!
The other possiblity is that you get a power bank... But that just adds to what you have to pack around, so this is probably another last resort, but it's all up to you.

Hello guys, sorry for my bad english, but I'm not American. Well, my question is:
I bought from a guy a Galaxy S I900b, Brazilian model with digital TV. Came with stock 2.3. As I had already read enough before, upgraded to JWB Saurom with semaphore kernel, which I think is the default for this rom. Well, the phone had very poor battery life, evn on idle. Then upgraded to 10.2 CM. I saw that had some wakelocks, and with BBS and the help here, I used the Scan Media Root and my problems are gone in iddle. So, my phone goes into deep sleep and today during my sleep, only lost 3% battery, 3% battery drain on idle during about 5-6 hours it very good to me. But during use, it ends up very fast, and with GSAM and standard monitor of the android, I saw that after the screen, the Android system was what had higher %% battery. So what could it be ? The battery life is ok, checked on info, and its condition is 'good'. I use to Greenify, and close almost every game\app, so running is just grenify and ram manager pro.
So the prob just could be a app or the 'android system' ? Or even hardware ?
I dont have much time now, so any info or screenshot you want, I can provide later
Thanks
What about your connections? Do you have 3G/wifi enabled at all times?
calibrate....maybe useless, but u can try....but somehow, try bigger mAh battery, maybe.....n maybe .... it will help.
juz charge it with screen turn on till it full, n waste it to 0% till it shut down, turn it on n charge it with screen on till it full again, u ll be fine
if problem occur again, keep an eye for sneaky app that run at background (email...exchange etc) n juz delete some sys app that u dont use using titanium.
if it still occur again, wait for arc reactor battery....

I've deleted the batterystats.bin and used until 0%, so charged while off, but nothing :C
It's true that the battery needs to 'learn' ? Like, a few charges and discharges and could estabilize ?
I'll take a few screenshots right now
Callibration of you battery eg: Wipe battery stats is onluy helpfull when you get weird battery stats.
If you are on any CyanogenMod ROM you have to get used to the higher ammount of battery use by the phone. The application Greenify can help a lot by hibernating the huge battery suckers like facebook and google maps.
Some tips:
- use 2G instead of 3G
- Turn WIFI off when you're outside the house or leaving for some time
- Turn GPS/Bluetooth on only when you're about to use it
- Dont use taskkillers (they are used to free up ram but killing apps makes android restarts them and this consumes extra juice)
- Put brightness on Auto
- Use a dark theme and background/lockscreenwallpaper
- Dont recharge your phone when below 5% this can damage the battery
- A new battery needs to "Get used to" the life of being a battery xD After a few recharging cycles it will work like normal
Here some screenshots, if need more, just ask
Note: Was with 14%batt, rebooted and drops to 11-10%

i am using greenify on almost everything.
used to use ram manager, but now i've disable it.
brightness is on low
I really dunno what 2 do ... almost 1 week with it and this insane drain, everyone says that plays or browser on wifi and get almost 10 hours... my dream this happen to me lol
Remember that this is just on use, on idle it use virtually nothing, like I said, almost 3% on sleep, but is just I start use with app or browser and its gone
Screens are from a too short period of useage. Use it from fully charged, and make some new screenies This can help futher
Well i got problems with my battery too so im planning to buy a new one because this one cant even handle 3-4 hours when im doing something like playing games,or listening music...Just buy new battery with more mAh and dont get bother with this

About 2 hours later that I fully charged, here are some ss
Just used whatsapp and opera in this time
I was thinking in change my kernel, currently I'm using semaphore 3.0 with CM10.2, is Latrop or Mackay better in battery life ?
I think its my last shot ... I'll provide a new battery next week, but i've heard some people with batt probs that even with new batt the problem persists :crying:

It looks like wifi and 3G have been kept on for most/all of the time. Turning those off while you're not using them may significantly increase battery life.
Also, related to kernels, personally I've found Mackay to be a bit better in terms of battery.
Also it looks like your screen's pretty bright if 61% of the battery usage is because of it. So if you don't need it so bright turning the brightness down may help.
Start by doing those, and see how your battery life fares first- if not much changes, then it may help getting a bettery battery/changing rom even.

So, like i said, in this 2 hours after charge, i've used opera mini with wifi, I dont use 3g. Right now the battery is less than 10%... it's strange since have people telling that can use almost 5 hours wifi and the battery is > 50%
And the brightness is at lowest bright :\
The problem could be some corrupted file ? I have the options:
- format EVERYTHING, and dont use titanium backup, since somthing can be corrupted.
- change my kernel to Mackay
- change my room back to SAUROM 2.3.6 adn semaphore kernel
I'm very sad cuz I have a very old Nokia E5 that can be on with wifi almost or more than 10hours ... and this phone can barely hold 5hour
What u suggest me to do ?

How long have you been using the rom? Roms take time to calibrate the battery and this is through charge/discharge cycles.
Alternatively, go into Performance settings and change the profile to powersave/conservative (it differs from rom to rom). Lock the min CPU frequency to 200mHz- apparently this helps.
Again, this would change depending on your kernel.
And if you have a three year old battery like mine, best not to expect miracles...

Using bout 2 days ... but i didnt knew about ' calibrate '. Good to know that
Now i've formated everything and will put a stock 2.3 and see in a couple of days the perfomance ... if gets better, I put the saurom 2.3.6 and be with it, cuz 2.3.6 on brazilian model allow to use digital tv, and 2.3 everyone says is economic.
I'll get this updated if my situation changes, if not, will buy a new battery
Thanks for all your help
Note: How long your batt last ? With high\low usage
