Hai there, sorry for asking this nooble question but my friends phone seems broken.
My friends got a rooted SGS which has/had TeamHacksungs CM9 on it, which was working as a charm.. Then somehow last night when he pulled out the phone out of his pocket it was bootlooping, he took it to me and I noticed i coulnd get into CWM Recovery. However I am able to get into "Download-mode" Could anyone point out to me how exactly I flash a recovery image to this phone and what files should be used. I did look around the fora myself but only came across some very old posts which I doubt are compatible with a phone that was already rooted, and was already running the latest versions of CWM and Android [4.3]
I already tried to flash a speedmod kernel that came with CMW, which failed.. im still able to get into download mode.
Any halp on this would be really appreciated.
Which files do I flash in Odin to get a working recovery again?
Thanks!
You should be able to flash a stock rom using ODIN, and from there you'll be able to root it and install a custom one again.
ah yea, i posted that too soon, yea thats exactly what i did, i followed:

Sorry for not searching well enough before posting this, ohwell..
Thanks : )

Hello, I got a bricked I9000. Got messed up for some reason while switching from Tayutama Superlite to Lite version.
I can get to Download mode, but the problem is I can't find the right ROM to flash through ODIN for unbricking this thing.
I got a terribly slow internet connection, and can't quite afford to try downloading several ROMs to try them. Everything I got were the zip packages I would have to flash through recovery.
Could someone please suggest a ROM (or two) to get this device running again..?
Been searching for quite a while now. Sorry for asking silly stuff.
If you say you bricked it you might need CWM to flash via recovery, you can actually download any FULL 2.1 or 2.2 ROM (JPC,JPK,JPH,JPA) and flash it via Odin with download mode and restore 2e+CWM and flash to another rom using recovery.
Whoa.. too much info in a compact message. Took me some time to figure out what you meant... been out of touch. Okay, that could help.
Will try a bit harder before bugging you again. Typed a big reply, but cleared it again. Thanks mate!
sams firmware site have full roms for download
hey guys! its been awhile since i been here my Brother wants his Galaxy S rooted and flashed to a different firmware!
i searched around but cant really find any info on the i9000m model. Hes running 2.2 i9000UGKC1 ( i believe that is the newest update)?
so what are my first steps to gain root? then flash? maybe a point to a root tutorial then a post to a flash tutorial for the i9000M would be handy, i just cant seem to find them haha, been so long since i was here. So can anyone give me the down low on how the mods are going and things needed to get root and flash?
thanks guys
Bump! any one here? im reading that root is possible for the i9000m but flashing might not be? im confused.... is it still odin used to flash and unlock the bootloader to flash new roms?
i've got an i9000m and rooted with SuperOneClick, then once rooted flashed speedmod kernel with Odin. No problemo.
Just make sure before you do anything that you can access Download mode and Recovery Mode via the '3-button' method ie. turn off then hold power/home/vol down (or up) respectively.
been busy since so haven't yet tried a custom rom, but yes, you can root and flash an i9000m!

so im reading that i can root with superoneclick
then afterwards i can flash CWM Recovery with Rom Manager? and start flashing roms right? without ODIN?
thats how i used to do it on a htc phone, does it work same with i9000m?

Bump anyone inform me as if this is correct? with the i9000UGKC1 firmware?
Bump, want my information verified, dont want to screw up my brothers phone haha
hey sorry i haven't checked in in awhile either - don't know if it still helps but i rooted with KC1 2.2. then flashed speedmod kernel (only realised afterwards could have just flashed the kernel and used it to root - rooted initially with superoneclick).
been super busy but now have a bit more time to look at more developments - just basic stuff like going to GB, maybe a new kernel and start looking at other ROMs again.
Hey Guys! Im going to explain how i got my self in this situation
I got my new Note 2 days ago and decided to root it at first. (KK4)
Which i did but not with CWM Manager so i used the InitialCFRootFlasher to get CWM Manager working.
Then i used Odin to flash the XLA4 on my device so i could get the RocketRom after that. But now when i want to go inte CWM Recovery mode to do a Nandorid backup i just get to the original recovery mode. And when i open CWM manager it says that i need a CF-Root V5.0 or newer.
What should i do? Really didnt know how to search for this so sorry if there already is a thread about this.
Please help me out guys
Dont wanna ruin my phone because i didnt know better
Thanks in advance!
Keep calm mate, don't worry.
I just wonder if your phone is properly rooted or not. If it is ok, you can download and flash CF-Root for LA4-v5.0 here http://download.chainfire.eu/140/CF-Root/SGN/CF-Root-SGN_XX_OXA_LA4-v5.0-CWM5.zip
If not, you can read clearly this topic, thanks to CF to solve your problem:

If you have use PC odin to get LA4(and seems you did it), then simply, you have lost Root + CWM.
N LA4 is not necessary b4 Rocket ROM.
If above is true, you have just option to downgrade n Re root + CWM
Oh, didnt see the replies before i edited it, i solved the problem just like u described in ur post taycuong76
didnt scroll down enough to see that there was a CF-root for the LA4
thx anyway love to see the great support and that everybody wants to help even if there already is a thread about this. Just makes me more satisfied with switching from the toy iphone 4 to a real phone
Got rocketrom on my phone now, just amazing that there are so many custom ROMs to choose from
Thanks again guys
EDIT: "unEdited" my thread for anybody that find themselves in this sitauation
Just dont panic like i did
Hi guys,
First of all, I apologize in advance if this isn't the correct place and/or thread title for my question. I've rarely posted in this forum as I'm usually able to find what I'm looking for.
I'll try to describe the issue fully so bear with me. If you're not patient, skip the next two paragraphs and go to the problem.
I bought my Galaxy S more than two years ago; back then it had Android 2.1 and I believe I also flashed to 2.1.1 via Samsung Kies.
I later flashed Froyo via Odin, rooted with 1ClickLagFix and installed a ton of apps. I haven't updated anything for more than a year, perhaps year and a half. I recently uninstalled many applications I wasn't using, including the lag fix, unrooted and began preparing to flash something newer. I didn't have the time though, so I dropped the project, and besides, the phone is working much smoother without all the unnecessary crap I had before.
Yesterday I decided to finish the job and flash DarkyROM 11 Black Edition. I rooted the phone again using Z4root, installed CWM ROM Manager and flashed CW recovery. I need the recovery in order to flash CM9 and then the ROM per the installation instructions for DarkyROM.
At this point I might as well wait for v.12, but I'll still need the CW recovery I guess. Or I may flash v.11 as planned; I still haven't decided.
The problem: CW recovery is flashed, but when I reboot I go to 3e recovery instead (tried with the 3 buttons or boot to recovery from ROM Manager, same result). I then copied the CW recovery file directly on the SD card and renamed it update.zip (it was recovery-update.zip) and tried to apply it. Didn't work. As far as I remember it said it couldn't verify file integrity or something. I can check for sure if you'd like.
Here's what I'm running (I'll put what I see, let me know if you need more):
GT-I9000
Firmware: 2.2
Baseband version: I9000XXJPP
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9
[email protected] #1
Build number: FROYO.XFJP7
ROM Manager (installed v. 5.5.1.4 yesterday) says current recovery is ClockworkMod 2.5.1.2.
I'd appreciate any insight. I don't have much experience flashing my phone, so if you have a solution, it would be best to include not only links to relevant threads but also an explanation as to what steps I should follow in my specific case.
Thanks in advance!

Can't do... Kies cannot upgrade the firmware since I'm on a custom ROM (or because it didn't match my country, I don't quite remember the reason).
I was following the installation instructions for DarkyROM for Froyo; it says I should have it rooted with CWM and use the recovery to flash CM9 and the ROM itself afterwards, so I believe Froyo isn't the issue. The kernel perhaps? Have no idea, I'm a novice more or less. I do know how to follow instructions though, so I'm not a complete idiot
Besides geting a newer ROM with newer Adnroid version I'd also like to clean up the mess I've been creating for the past year and a half. Maybe flashing a stock ROM and then DarkyROM would be easier. I'm looking for the most time-efficient method.
Hi everyone,
Sort of a noob question here. I am aware that the answer is very possibly already hidden somewhere in the numerous posts out there, but im getting kind of lost in all the different posts that are all somehow related to this topic.
So, I want to update my already rooted s4 active (i9295) to the latest version of Android (Lollipop, Android 5.0.*). I found enough information on this and I'm comfortable doing this.
BUT, to my knowledge, updating my rooted phone to the latest version of Android will make me lose root privileges. I haven't found a clear description on how to re-root my phone after updating. Is anyone able to help me out here?
Summary:
-------------------------------------------------------
ℹ Phone: GT-I9295
ℹ Current OS: Android 4.4.2
ℹ Custom Recovery: CWMR
-------------------------------------------------------
Objective:
-------------------------------------------------------
Re-root GT-I9295 after update to Android 5.0.*
Thanks a lot, Thomas
Flash custom recovery with Odin, then flash SuperSU in recovery.
No luck yet....
thanks for your anwser!
unfortunately I cant seem to get a custom recovery flashed through ODIN. I tried both CWM (CWM-Recovery-gt-i9295_v1-2.tar.md5) and TWRP (twrp_mythi_8.tar).
Flashing the official Android udate worked fine, so I am now on android 5.0.1, but I lost root ..... and I dont like that much... I want my root back....:crying:
Dont know if this matters in any way, but when ODIN is done, I dont get a green box that says [PASS], but blue box that says [RESET]
Any advice on getting a custom recovery installed???? Can I install it through ADB?

d8389 has given working steps to same question here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=60376515
Also recommend to read my thread about failsafe method to flash anything (next post). And specific how to get from stock to custom recovery 1st time. Please use Odin 3.0x, multirom TWRP made by spegelius and SuperSU 2.46. The files that you have tried is old and made for jellybean and Kitkat. Most recent links is in my thread.
Thanks for your reply! It was no longer needed for myself, because I already got it to work, but I'm sure it will be helpful for others!
