I can't seem to get the Update.zip to work and now my ds7 only shows the cwm rec boot loader. Pls hlp me. Thank you.
So i did some reading and what i did wrong was factory reset from the settings menu not cwm. No instructions were clear how to fix my mistake. Help would be awesome. Any help i could get can be rewarded money. cwm 3.0.2.0
OMG, i also did a factory reset and now it is stuck on cwm, can't even get into fastboot mode
GUYS, please help.. this is bad as I've been searching the forums for an answer and all i see is to try fastboot.. thanks in advance
I heard this works haven't tried it yet since I left mine at my buddies house to fix it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1018809

Don't worry guys, I almost went crazy just now thinking mine was "bricked" as well when it really wasnt. Restore with the following method will fix it
DO NOT FORGET to press both volume + and volume - at the same time so that your computer will detect it as a NVFlash device and the nvflash method (with batch file) will pick it up as a driver and reflash your device to stock. I made that mistake as well

I just flashed a battery mod on my galaxy s.
But i think i downloaded the Wrong one!!! When i did a reboot, the process 'android.phone' stopped working. Mmmm.. OK.
Tried a factory reset through the 3 button menu. Well now it does not do anything, i can see the boot movie, but then i get a Black screen with an heartbeat on the vibration thingy.
I did not panic and tried to flash an other firmware. Well it did not work. I see the boot movie, but then the screen blacks out and nothing works......
I searched for this, but i didnt get a good answer on how to solve this.
So if anyone is kind enough to help me, and tell me what to do in simple steps.
The same here. I used version D for JP6 & the 2nd method.
I had to reflash the softwear.
Exact same problem with me, had to reflash. Could someone tell the guy who has the battery mod thread?

1st. You need to flash a fresh firmware I suggest a official one so you can download the latest JP6 from kies without knifing the registry. you can get those firmwares from http://www.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-i9000.htm but you need to register first. And here are the intructions how to flash http://samsunggalaxysforums.com/sho...and-and-flash-newer-firmware-to-your-Galaxy-S
2nd. After a succesfull flash go to recoverymode (shut down device, hold: vol-up, home and power)
wipe cache and do a factory reset just incase, and boot your device.
3rd. Install JP6 through Kies
edit:
BTW im a noob who did just this after i messed my phone to a state like mentioned in op So i dont take any responsibility about any damage you do to your phone. I did something like this and now i have official JP6 inside my sgs and its flying
Hi there,
I noticed I can't get in download mode anymore. Whatever I try it won't show the yellow triangular download sign. It just boots into cyanogen.
I have tried the 3 button trick but recovery nor download works. That's when I had the idea to apply the 3-button fix. adb reboot recovery brings me in the cwm recovery mode. adb reboot download just reboots the phone. I even tried the 300k ohm jig which always seemed to work as a failsafe. That also just boots the phone into cm.
I have checked with my brother who also runs CM nightly 101 and for him the download mode works fine so it is my phone, not CM.
The phone works fine now, is rooted too so I wondered if there's any way to fix this by rewriting the bootloaders. I want to have this fixed as a failsafe is flashing ever fails or if one of the nightlies gets corrupted.
Is there anyone who can confirm the download mode is in the primary bootloader (boot.bin from a stock rom) and is it safe to just flash_image that to the boot partition or will that be a guarantee to brick. The idea is that I still have root console access so I have to fix it from there.
Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Tried the tricks with and without pc-usb/charger and it made no difference. The 300k ohm jig trick can't be done with power or computer connected since you have to use the usb connection on the phone for it. It usually was my ever working failsafe.
I also tried the quickboot app without any luck. It seems it is responding to the download command but the code isn't there anymore.
Hey try going into download mode by touch controls although I haven't ever used cyanogen but i assume as every custom rom has this feature cyanogen must also have this! The download mode option in quick network options when u press the power button for 2 seconds ! Although it isn't safe but you cab try this and then if it goes into download mode then their must a way to go into download mode manually!

Holding the power button for two seconds indeed brings up the profile/reboot/shutdown options. Selecting reboot only gives two additional options, reboot and recovery which do as they say. I can boot cwm recovery but from there I can't go into download mode either.
Try downloading terminal emulator and then reboot download or ADB reboot download

Tried it from the terminal with reboot download. Also tried adb reboot download long before that. It just reboots and starts. I have the feeling the piece of bootblock that's holding the download mode isn't there anymore.
There is an option in recovery to boot into download mode, Have you tried that ?
It sounds to me like that part of the bootloader is corrupt / missing.
Does the phone still work normally ? can you still continue to use it daily without the download mode option ?

The phone works fine otherwise. I just want to fix this before it stops working fine and I need the download mode.
Recovery boots into CWM-based Recovery v4.0.1.5 which I got with CM7 with no option to return to the stock recovery or download mode as far as I can see. Also zipped updates from sd-card install fine from CWM recovery mode. If I just knew where to find a cwm ready zipped bootloader that will fix this.

Thats a good idea, I think that should be made, Would save a lot of hassle...
In my recovery under 'advanced features' the option is there to reboot into android or reboot into download..
In order to go from CM7 - Stock, do you need re-partition with all 3 files ? or can you flash it through recovery ?
If so, flash it to stock and sell it to someone who has no idea about Custom ROMs / Hacking. (like me 12 months ago )
EDIT: is this issue not kernel related by any chance ?

Well I have no clue to make any package and I don't dare to flash_image some random boot.bin.
My recovery -> advanced only has reboot recovery which brings it back into recovery.
I'm afraid bringing it back to stock also needs odin/heimdall, that brings me back to the initial problem.
Selling it gives me the money for half a new phone. As long as its working fine I'd like to stick with it. My worst case scenario so far is that I'm stuck with CM7 nightly #101 for the coming 1.5 year which is annoying but far better than the slow stock samsung hands out.
The issue can't be directly kernel or CM7 related. My brother has CM7 #101 running and download mode works fine with him. (And no I can't secretly swap phones ) He doesn't know how to work with odin so I arranged everything for him. Exactly the same steps as I did my own phone. Perhaps a glitch in flashing or something.

Hmmm... tricky one to fix..
I have no more ideas i think flashing bootloaders through recovery would work like you said, But unless its a tried and tested method i wouldnt recommend it at all.
Have you posted this issue in the CM thread ? perhaps you could PM one of the Devs for assistance, or whether the whole 'flashing bootloader in recovery' idea would work at all.
You have nothing to lose by asking them.
Hope you get a solution... But until them im out of ideas.
Keep us updated if you get a fix.
Good luck man !!
EDIT: one more idea, Sounds risky but.... What if you made a nandroid backup on your brothers phone and restore it on yours ?? Thats if nandroid does back up bootloaders im not sure

Thanks for thinking with me. I'll give the nandroid solution a go if there are no other replies within a reasonable time.
I'll post the same question in the CM forum but contacting the CM devs could be hard. They don't give any official support to nightlies and I can't say I'm convinced it has anything to do with CM at all. Though they do have the knowledge to answer the question or build a package to repair it. But you're right there's nothing to lose in asking.
Ofcourse I searched the forum before posting and found out I seem to be the only one ever with this problem. The solution could be as rare so I'll keep you posted if I make any progress beside here. That's what the whole idea behind this forum is for right?
True man !!
And if you get a solution or a dev to make a flashable bootloader. It could help other people in future
Good luck. Keep us posted

Interesting but that project still needs a bricked i9000 to tear apart. I don't have a captivate. Well if it ever becomes really bricked I'll consider donating mine.
And I'm okay with handling computers (yes I consider the phone a small computer about 400 times faster than my first pc) but when actual soldering is involved I give up.

Hi! If it still doesn't work, try downloading ROM Manager from the market and install the latest CWM. It sounds like your bootloader got modified/locked.

Hey guys, it's been a while!
Anyway, before I even got my I9000 I had everything sorted to install Darky's ROM and the Speedmod kernel. Some time between them working perfectly and now, I plugged the phone in to Kies and it has tried to update me to GB. SM and DR did not like this.
I managed to do a factory reset (or whatever it is in CWM), and that got the phone to boot, but it isn't pretty. I get the kind of graphical messing up that a dying GPU would render whilst booting the phone, it reboots 25% of the time I am using the music player, and I can NOT boot in to download or recovery any more. I already tried plugging it in to Kies in the hopes it could just wipe the phone over and start again, but it simply does not recognise it.
Likewise, I would look in to the files I need to just do the equivalent of a full format with Odin/ADB, but without download mode I don't think that would even work.
So, the question is; just what the **** am I supposed to do?
USB recovery jig.
can you get into your phone ??????????? I mean can you reach Settings ???? because I didnt read all your speech .
Search for "recovery.tar" and flash it with MOBILE Odin, this would give u cwm and flash a new rom in cwm or flash a stock rom with mobile Odin. Good luck

Mobile Odin? Interesting, will look in to it.
EDIT: This recovery.tar; should it be on my phone already or do I have to find one? Because Astro can't find jack **** on my phone.
EDIT2: Scratch that, found it. Trying to flash it using "Open File..." has just resulted in it being stuck at:
"Flashing...
Flashing Kernel..."
for the last 10 minutes...
Thanks for the replies so far guys!
solved it ???????????
Nope. Sorry, I have been editing that post rather than enter new posts (until someone else posts, of course).
EDIT: Still flashing...
Ok, it now won't boot at all (stuck at the Samsung splash load screen), BUT, importantly, I can get in to download mode and CWM recovery.
What do I download and do to entirely wipe the **** out of this phone and start again?
EDIT:
Fixed. Sorted. Thanks for your help guys, it is much appreciated.
Ok... I'm a NOOB I know, but I screwed up BIG TIME.
Here's my problem (also sorry if this is the wrong place)
I got my Samsung Galaxy S today and I wanted to root and upgrade from 2.3.6 to the most recent ICS that was stable with the phone.
I believe I rooted my phone correctly their was no problem there.
Went in Recovery
It was fine at the most part, cleared out the Cache and all that jazz.
Then Installed Cyanogen, That was fine also.
then... I cleared out the cache and etc again and installed the second file...
then this is where ALL the problems started...
So I installed the second file, then recovery automatically closed out and it seemed fine but it went into a boot loop, I'm not even sure if it can be considered a boot loop.
It continuously loops between the "Samsung Galaxy S i9000" Logo & "Samsung Galaxy S & Cyanogen [MOD]" logo...
I couldn't enter recovery...
Because I'm a fool, I took things into my own hands.
When into Download mode, used Odin and placed TAR file (I think it's called) into the PDA section and tried it.
It failed and it BRICKED!
So I have a double wammy!
Firstly I need help to get out of the Bricked state before I can do ANYTHING else
Then I have a choice.
I could...
Find away to get out the loop and Cyanogen working with whatever ICS it should be running
OR
Find away to take it back to 2.3.6 and never tamper with my phone and leave it to the professionals.
I would prefer going to Cyanogen over 2.3.6
I also believe "XXJW4" will be of help to you to narrow down the problem.
Your help with be EXTREMELY appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
Don't worry, you should've tried harder if you wanted to brick SGS.
My question is: can't you get in download mode?
You may try USB jig or the unbrickable mod. But I ain't able to answer any further due to my lack of accidents during flashing.
It's better for you to wait for some professional opinions.

I've been looking around if their is a way to flash the recovery but can't see it for some reason :|
I looked at that bricking mod...
Wasn't worth it!
I found another by the same guy I believe and it worked like a charm So the bricking has been removed.
Never thought I would see the day I would actually Unbrick and bricked phone. I feel so special HAHA
Read this and somewhere in that thread there is a download link for "EZbase" download it and follow the instructions in the EZbase folder you downloaded to flash it up in Odin. However if you use Heimdall then I personally told others how I did it on the second page of the thread.
If you have any further questions just come back to this thread...

when flashing ICS from GB 2.3.6 you need to flash twice. see MY Android solution link below , anyway I think your problem already solved, if not just flash a rescue kit to get back to GB 2.3.6 from MY Android collections link below
A truly wonderful resource xsenman, I have somewhere to turn people thank you.
I think I should update my problem.
I'm out of the Brick.
I've Flashed CWM recovery and I can get into recovery and Download, but it only stay on the first boot screen (where it mentions the name of the phone.
I wanted to load "CF-Root-XX_OXA_JW4-v4.4-CWM3RFS" from the recovery but the phone is not letting me saying "E:failed to mount /sdcard"
I Flashed dbdata.rfs.tar to solve it But it didn't work.
Maybe an after effect of the Brick?
so I am stuck here at the moment
Also want to say that I realised I did not properly root my phone so I think I have no choice to call it quits and just go back to 2.3.6.
but I don't have a complete or where to get a "recovery kit" you could call it of some sort which can take me back to 2.3.6 with TouchWiz
Oh wait never mind
I used your recovery
WORKED LIKE A CHARM!
MADE ME A HAPPY MAN AND I CAN GO TO SLEEP!
I wish I could pay you for your effort but I guess I can only say how much I can thank you!
Recovery wont work now, something is corrupt. I don't know exactly what it is... maybe the partitioning or something the ROM sets up is all corrupt. I'd like to know exactly what is wrong here as well tbh.
But you need to flash a recovery kit in Odin or Heimdall because I'm not 110% sure (I could be wrong) official stock ROM is the best way to go atm... I've extracted this link from my thread for you which is EZbase and in the folder you'd download there is instructions for use with Odin.
Hope this helps...
Oppps... didn't see that lmao, glad you fixed it!
in need of help
First off all i am noob when it comes to android but i somehow managed to install cyanogen mod. I have been using it for a while but today i dropped my phone and something happened now i cant start it. when i turn it on its stuck between cyanogen mod and gti 9000 sign. i think its in a loophole. by the way i cant reach recovery mode (vol+ home power). i can star download mode but nothing happens when i plug it to my computer.
I require assistance and tahnks to all further replies.
Hi guys,
sorry if this has been covered somewhere else, but I spend the last few days with reading thorugh alot of posts and information but I haven't found a solution for my problem. So this is the situation:
I have a S5830 here which was rooted by me for my girldfriend. I left the stock rom on it, there was really just a plain root, nothing more. So about a week ago my girlfriend decided that she wanted a new phone and tried to get rid of the root by using the reset to factory settings button. Well, since then the phone is somewhat bricked.
I can enter download mode by pressing Home-Button and Power Button aswell as emergency download mode by pressing volume-up+down, home button and power. When I try to get to the Recovery Menu (the stock one) I get a funny picture with a cellphone a warning sign and a computer (what the hell is this supposed to tell me?).
Confronted with this situation I thought I might just be able to push the stock firmware back on to get rid of that problem but ODIN won't let me. It recognizes the phone (yellow button appears) but when I try to flash it, it stops at "Setup Connection" and won't go any further. I tried all the suggested solutions (different computer, different usb port, killing kies in task manager etc.) Nothing works.
I'm in urgent need of a helping hand here Or just somebody who tells me "Well you're f*****".
Thanks in advance
First : Please don't use Vulgar words since it's a XDA rule ..that's why it go censored
Second : What exactly happens when you normally turn on your device ?
Third : Are you using the right version of ODIN ...Use v4.38
Forth : Keep distracting your girlfriend so that she forgets about the phone ..you know like take her on a DATE
Fifth : Hit the THANKS button if somehow helped

Hi dasABCD!
You can go to recovery by pressing Home+ Power buttons. If you have CWM and a previous Nandroid backup you can restore from here, or install any other ROM easily.
That's not what you wanted but it's easy to do.
Good luck.
