/system r/w mount, CarHomeGoogle - LG Optimus 2x

Hello everybody,
I have this issue with my phone, was looking how to fix it, but could not find anything that works.
So i have LG optimus 2x, it's rooted, tried many custom roms and kernels, at the moment i'm with some tweaked CM9 super nova rom and horse power kernel.
So the problem is that i can not mount r/w my /system. I can format it with CWM but none of file managers or even terminal works when i'm trying to remove some files from /system directory. The thing is that i have problem with Car Home app. It pops up randomly, for example if someone calls me, then it pops up and speaker turns on, or just in daily use. It is very annoying.
When i'm flashing rom with gapps included, there are 2 apk files in my system, CarHomeGoogle and CarHomeLauncher witch i'm trying to remove but still failed. But if i'm istalling rom without gapps or for example not full packed (without car home) it still pops up but not the full app but only the icon in my bottom bar (where clock, battery, notifications etc.). I don't understand how the hell that app still works if i'm wiping my phone.
Maybe someone had the same issue and had it fixed. Would be grateful if you share. Thank you for your time.

I don't have that application in my system?
Did you do a full wipe before flashing the ROM?
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA

- if u have gapps flashed the car apps are in /system.
- if u do "data wipe" /system wont get touched, so they are still there. same for "cache wipe" and "dalvik wipe".
- if you flash the package again /system will be written again, the flashable zip with the rom will format /system BUT there is an cm update script in it, which will backup your gapps and put them back after format/reflash!
means: do a "format /system" before flashing the whole rom again (without gapps) and you have finally the rom installed without that car-stuff.
hope that helps

[Q] Rom Manager made bad back up image...HELP PLEASE!!!!

I rooted my hero using the 1 click root from the market. I then used rom manager to make a back up image, then flashed cyanogenmod 7.0.2 on it. There was no Market, my home button didnt work, and a few other quirks so I decided to go back to my original os. I clicked on the manage and restore in rom manager. It went thru the process and said restore complete. when it boots up it has overlayed images, and says "the application Settings(process.com.android.settings)has stopped unexpectedly.FC. As i go thru the set up, many of they options are greyed out and not accessable, then when i get to "finish setup" it FC's and says" the application Setup(process.com.htc.android.htcsetupwizard)has stopped unexpectedly. Then i get a black screen. Just wondering if I can get a good Back up image from someone to put on my sd card, then do a restore? I am pretty noob at all this, so any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!
Mmhmm...first, 1 click bad, second, rom manager...worse in the wrong hands...
Why don't you download the gapps and put it on the root of your sdcard and then flash it after the 7.0.2 and then you'll be ok I'm sure if you take a little time to figure out you may be the only person that can fix your issue. By that, what I mean is in the install steps I'd bet it mentions to install gapps and if it doesn't let me know and I'll get the op to add that step.
As for all your messed up permissions try running fix permissions in rom manager if you can get there.
~maybe I set it too high...
i tried that first but coulnt get it to work, so i downloaded the rom directly from rom manager. The only thing i can do on the phone now is thru clockworkMod recovery
You can do fix permission in cwm also, I think under advanced. Just whatever you do, do NOT format recovery or misc if those options are in your recovery.
If you're in recovery though you're in the right place to flash. It's just
Wipe data /factory reset
Advanced -> wipe dalvik cache
Back
Install zip from sdcard and choose the7.0.2 zip and then thesame thing with gapps.
Reboot system
Edit, you could also just try to restore again from cwm. I'm assuming it holds the backup.
~maybe I set it too high...
ok, im off to bed...i will try this in the morning and post my status, thanks for your help so far
Did you ever wipe between installations and flashes? I always play it safe and wipe boot, cache, data, system and dalvik cache when I am flashing different ROMs and when restoring. Try going back into recovery and wipe what I posted and then restore your backup.

I couldnt wait, I had to try it....YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so very much. I already had Rocksteady and Gapps downloaded on my comp, so i put those on the sd, followed your steps and BAMM! Works great! I can not thank you enough!

[Q] CM7 to Miui

So I was able to successfully install CM7 on my new NC last week and got it just the way I want it. Now I would like to try Miui. I have never used Rom Manager (not working on the Epic), and would like to know how to go back and forth using that app.
Can someone break it down so I can follow along painlessly?
ROM manager is nice for doing incremental updates. What you want to know how to use is clockwork mod.
I'm in the car ATM, but I'll be at my computer in 15 or so. I'll write up what you need.
Sent from my Vortex using Tapatalk pro
OK, first turn on wifi. Then, from within Rom manager check and make sure you have the latest Clockworkmod flashed.
at the top it will say 'current recovery' if that's 3.2.0.1 then you're good, if not, select 'flash Clockworkmod'
if you get a selection between old and new, select new.
Now would be a good time to make a directory on your SD-card called 'ZIPS' and put the .zip files of whatever rom you want to flash.
CM7 nightlies
MIUI
And, you'll want to pickup the Gapps (google applications) zip from here
Clockworkmod is a recovery program. It is able to boot ahead of anything else and has access to every partition. From within clockwork mod you're able to do system level backing up, restoring, or just plan changing. I'll give you the run down on flashing different roms.
To boot Clockworkmod just turn off the nook, then hold the [pwr]+['n' button] until you see the text 'booting into recovery' release the buttons.
Now within clockworkmod [vol+] is up, [vol-] is down, ['n' button] is select, and [pwr] is back.
First we need to backup your current data. With this backup you will be able to restore to that EXACT time and setup. Make as many as you want, feel free to rename then to keep track.
->backup and restore->Backup
The backup is saved to the SD-card in the Clockworkmod folder
Then we need to wipe all that uncool old data from the emmc. Pick one, not both.
Scenario #1: upgrading versions of the SAME ROM
->mounts and storage->unmount /cache
->mounts and storage->format /cache
->advanced->wipe dalvik cache
Scenario #2: SWITCHING from one type of ROM to another
->mounts and storage->unmount /cache
->mounts and storage->format /cache
->mounts and storage->format /data
->mounts and storage->format /system
->advanced->wipe dalvik cache
->wipe data/factory reset (a little redundant, but it can't hurt)
Now to install the new ROM or ROM version
->install zip from sdcard->choose zip from sdcard->ZIPS/->ROM file
->install zip from sdcard->choose zip from sdcard->ZIPS/->Gapps file (should look something like this: gapps-gb-20110613-siged.zip)
After you've installed a new update of a ROM or a new ROM you'll have to fix the permissions.
->advanced->fix permissions
Reboot and you're done.
This should cover all of your flashing needs. If I missed something please point it out. If something doesn't work just post it, someone will know.
Awesome breakdown! Now to get apps back, do I need to use titanium or can I go to restore in CWM and do it that way?
Thanks again, that was very useful!
I seem to remember that titanium backup's app data restore does not work for CM7, only restoring the app itself works.
The restore in CWM will REVERT you back to when you backed up, undoing everything you've done since.
I can confirm that Titanium backup does work in CM7 I use it all the time to restore apps and data.
It also worked after I installed Miui. Batch restored all of my apps and data, no FC's.
Glad to hear it worked ok for you.

[Q] [4.0.4] Dark Knight 3 issues

Hi,
Complete xda n00b here. Sorry if I am posting this to the wrong place, but I couldn't post in the Dev forum for obvious n00bishness.
I've searched all the other threads but have come up with no answers
I'm running Dark Knight 3 with the Devil kernel. It's a fantastic rom, so fast and smooth. I love it. But the TV-Out does not work. I tick the necessary boxes, and run it on PAL (I'm UK) but there is no picture on the TV screen. I have sound, and can play audio files, but no visual
Any help that can be offered to fix the problem would be massively appreciated!
thanks
I cannot speak directly for Dark Knight, but a lot of these ICS roms are not fully complete... so the TV out just might not be working..
I thought that might be the case. But wasn't sure if it was an issue that would be relatively easy to fix.
Thanks!
You must turn TV-out ON in GalaxyS settings
No space left on device
Hi!
I really want to have this rom on my rooted GT-I9000 (with brand 2.3.5 from Orange (Poland)), so:
1) download and copy DK 4.0.4 to sd card
2) download and install clockwork rom manager
3) flash CWMR
4) reset smartphone in recovery mode (from CWRM)
5) wipe to factory data
6) clear cache
7) select rom (zip) to update
After a few second get: short write of /temp/slideload/package.zip ( no space left on device )
So, I:
8) download and install titanium backup
9) delete almost all non-core applications -> now I have 80-70 MB free space on phone memory
10) back to point 4 and get the same error :/
so, I:
11) try to flash rom directly from CWRM -> clear cache, wipe data, clear dalvik and select rom and... get the same error
What to do? (my sd card is almost empty)
Do a search because I remember reading a fix for that. Something about clearing a specific folder.

[Q] i897 dont boot

I have Samsung i897 Captivate (i9000) with SlimICS 4.1.1 Cyanogenmod installed.
Yesterday morning I've found, that my phone is repeatedly show me boot screen (video on boot with many blinking pieces/elements colors shown to me), but did not load an Android at all. I've tried to reboot the phone (with battery eject), but nothing changes: phone shows start-up animations repeatedly.
Last my action evening before was setting alarm (usual task that I've done for one year probably). Dont know what reason to reboot was, maybe no free space available, but dont sure. Before this problem with load I have no problems with phone at all.
I have Clockworkmod installed, but there's no options to boot an Android in safe mode or some similar options. I could get access to the internal phone memory, but not for system partitions. I've tried to wipe dalvik/cache, fix permissions, but no changes at boot.
So could you gents help me to get access to the filesystem: I have memo's & uncynchronised contacts & SMS, which I would like to save before do anything. I know how to reinstall the system (I have backup for it, but not for contacts & memo's).
Thanks.

The I9000 and the I897 are 2 different phones. I9000 is the international version of the Captivate, therefor, if you flashed the I9000 bootloaders on a I897 Captivate, you'll have distorted colors/screen.
What exactly was done to the phone before this happened?
Pardon, I have AT&T i897 Captivate phone. I did not flashed, nor updated phone, nothing similar, that could affect phone booting process. Just set an alarm (default, from Clocks), then go sleep. In morning found that my phone stuck in boot process - it show boot-up animation but don't load OS.

No, I'm no so clean understand reflashing process, so worry to lost my data (I know that my contacts lie here - /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts , but can't found where memo's saved). I could choose "Restore /system" from
"Backup & Resore -> Advanced" in CWM, you mean this?

Reflashing your ROM won't touch your data as long as you don't wipe/factory reset. It's what we call a dirty flash, you just wipe cache/dalvik and flash your ROM again with the Gapps.
Thank you for the way to resolve the problem. Spend some time to understand the process of reflashing. Now I collected all files (bootloader, ROM, essentials, gapps and so on of my actual setup) and ready to reflash it with Heimdall.
But still have a question: is there any possibilities to get access to filesystem (for maybe just copy all files from system partitions into Big Brother) before take action in my case?
Will I get access to my contacts & memo's after reflashing? As I understand, if I reflash phone, /data & /datadata partitions (as part of freshy ROM reinstall) will be touched too, then I lost as minumum link to the Wizard Memo (and I'm not sure that installing it from Google Play will restore access to my memo's).
As you could realise, I have no actual backup of my data, so asking maybe dumb questions (
Could I simple use Clockwork's mod option "Restore /system" & "Restore /data" (as I have it in almost fresh backup - 2 months ago)? Will it be analogue to reflashing? Or it revert /system and /data to the stage when it was make, with contacts, programs and so on with 2 months ago state, not current?

I guess i wasn't so clear. What I mean by reflashing is to simply get in recovery mode and reflashing RemICS and their Gapps. Not to start fresh with stock.

You explained well, errors on my side Resolved this issue with copying all data from filesystem, then reflashing with fresh slimrom . For those who fall into same situation: you could get access to filesystem of your phone trough ADB tool, and just copy sensible data to another partition/SD/device. See QtADB program also, very friendly for that.

[ROM][ULB] CM-13.0 for Xperia T Beta

Hello and welcome to CM-13.0 Beta 1 !
first of all a BIG thank you to @Adrian DC wich had constributed also to this rom (he fixed the camera and helped me with the other stuffs )
Known bugs:
- sometimes the device will bootloop (only in starting phase )
USE THE FLASHABLE HOTFIX for that
- sometimes RIL may not start (on bootup)
if you encounter one of these bugs please press and hold vol+ and powerbutton to FORCE SHUTDOWN and then reboot again
Other "bug":
- selinux disabled until i patched it
Sourcecode can be found on my git:
github.com/sdtbarbarossa
How to install:
1. make sure your internal SDCard is formated to exfat (you can use Whiteneos TWRP to get that)
2. clean install the rom ( wipe cache & data & system ) [alternativeley dirtyflash.... but then dont report bugs!]
3. flash gapps (i use OPENGAPPS - ARM - 6.0 - PICO )
4. reboot
5. wait several times

Got that myself, it doesn't work with TWRP 3, you need an older version, i used TWRP 2.8.6.0
(fix) flash it with philz_touch_6.12.8
Q: how do you install supersu? It doen't work from google apps and I tried to flash it from TWRP and I got a bootloop
For me installation works with TWRP from 12.1 kernel. After creation of dalvik files it never ended with "apps are starting". Killed the device (Vol+ & Power) and got never ending boot animation... tried to reinstall. Now got "Operation not supported on transport endpoint". Restored "boot" from last 12.1 nand backup, rebooted to (that funny colored) revovery, wiped again, reinstalled (BTW open_gapps-arm-6.0-pico-20160403 in queue) and now..... hey, I get a PIN screen! Wifi & Google sign in works without problem. Developer options, root access, adb shell, seems alright for now - good night and many thanks to SdtBarbarossa!

From Xperia M I know it's very tricky or nearly impossible... For me the "onboard solution" for root access is okay. (did not try yet if it really works...)
Actually you are right, I didn't enable the root access from developer options the first time.. but it works and you don't need supersu
But I had no service and after a reboot it started to bootloop again..
bootloop after a reboot
Reinstalled again.. and after each app install I rebooted to see what might cause the bootloop
For me at least, it started to bootloop after I installed and gave root access to titanium backup.
1. the bootloop is a known bug lile i said ( it is that the mediaserver dont start for a unknown reason... depending on the random queue of loading librarys )
atm i prefere everyone to reboot not often x)
bootloops should be solvable by hardboot ( vol+ and powerbutton )
then there are 2 cases:
1.lib a gets loaded before lib b => it boots
2.lib b gets loaded before lib a => it loops
there is nothing how i can controll that atm
2. if you habe trouble flashing the rom please send me a log
3. guys can it be that the no service bug only appears on first boot?
Sent from my Xperia T using XDA Free mobile app
Here's an example logcat for a boot-loop. All boot loops I got were ending with that "Waiting for service media.audio_policy..."
BTW In my case has nothing to do with Titanium Backup, it seems to be random
I'll probably test the rom today. Keep up the good work SdtBarbarossa.

so except for the bootup problems ... how is the rom? any other problems?

First impression's really good. Much snappier than 12.1 - expected. It was a little tricky to change the 'sdcard0' to vfat. As suggested I tried to do it with the 12.1-kernel-TWRP... first did a backup to ext-sd but after copying with TWRP-filemanager it crashed, automatically rebooted the 13-ROM, killed the dalvik and boot-looped At least sdcard0 data were transfered!
So restored kernel & data from nand backup and after successful boot, tried to format sdcard0, mentioned "corrupt" in settings-Storage&USB but ERROR occurred. So I tried with adb shell
Code:
newfs_msdos -F 32 /dev/block/mmcblk0p15
OR
Code:
mkfs.exfat /dev/block/mmcblk0p15
BOTH returned Errors (that's why I tried both) but can't remember which one was successful
In settings-Storage&USB still "corrupt", but after reboot (without problems) there was sdcard0 with 11 GB free - yeaaaah!
Pushed back all the Osmand Map Stuff and so on and now also
Camera does not complain any longer because of missing sdcard and takes photos.
GPS fix is fast and stable... That's all for now!
Ahh and yes, I can do phone calls & sms (aber das ist ja nebensächlich)
hi!
so tried last cm13 beta, thanks for your work first of all.
had same problems as @mankokoma trying to format the sdcard to vfat via WhiteNeos latest twrp (same problem I reported multiple times in the old thread if you remember), it simply does not work, sdcard stays in ext4.
then I did run the commands mankokoma suggested in adb and then I could see vfat for sdcard in twrp. but now in twrp sdcard is not accessible at all. it doesn't mount etc had to use usb otg to install cm13. and in twrp 3.0 provided with cm13, again sdcard is not accessible at all ;(
btw, I full wiped (system, cache, data and dalvik), and thanks to otg I installed cm13 beta. upon very first reboot, phone optimized all apps, but then got stuck at "Android is starting - Starting apps message" forever. I had to force shutdown and reboot, then it booted fine and could pass the wizard.
sim was detected fine.
but I see internal sdcard always damaged in settings. rebooted countless times, didn't fix the problem. and camera app FCs, probably because I don't have any sdcards available...
If I click on the sdcard damaged, and then configure and format, I get an error message, and it doesn't work.
so the rom is still not usable for me atm very sad because the rom seems very promising and so fast!
EDIT: settings do FC here when trying to enter developer settings so can't enable builtin root?!
seems that your issues are all because of the sdcard not formated to exfat... you can "revive" it by formatting to ext4 but then you can only use it in twrp... try again to format it to exfat

yes but how?? please tell me how to do that... in twrp 3.0 it keeps giving errors...
and by the way in twrp I see file system for sdcard is already vfat now! :silly:
nvm! trying again and again in twrp I always got error messages but now in settings it seems it is recognized! great! and camera started to work now will test it wonderful!
ps: FC in developer settings is still there... how did you get root? with supersu?
EDIT: and recording videos does not seem to work?
