[Q] Get the Note or wait for the Note 2? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I'm due an upgrade in June and have my eye set on the Galaxy Note or the Galaxy S3. The one thing that compels me is the size of the screen on the Note, so I'm probably more inclined to the get the Note.
The only thing is, I don't want to buy the note and have the note 2 come out 2 months later, lol.
Maybe you guys can help me out here.

If you like to read and browse on a big screen then the note or the next iteration of the note is the solution. No contest there, anything less than 5 inch to me belongs to more of a phone. I am using the 4.7 inch HTC one x and the note, the 0.6 inch difference is missed when using the x. there are some occasion I wish a carry a smaller phone but on most occasion I am happy to fit the biggest size phone. The Samsung galaxy tab 7.7 on some occasion is perfect, yet the 5.3 for all occasion is perfect. Note 2 (700$~800$)won't be out international till November ish since that is when the original note got released. Buy note when possible keep it in good shape, resell and buy note 2. Dual core in euro note and lte note is adequate for most. So buy now and love life.

Go for the note... its there right now and its fkin amazing!!!

I agree - best phone on the market hands down... It's blazing fast, and there's really no need for quad core for any current use of a smartphone apart from tegra games, which you can run through chainfire. There has been no word of a note 2

get the note if you need/want the s-pen features.
Get the S3 is that's what it is, or get the Galaxy Nexus for ICS and JB
Don't wait for the Note 2 it wont be out till next year at the earliest.

There isn't any official information about the Note 2 yet, so you should go for either the Note or the upcoming S3.

Get the note, Samsung didnt realise how popular the note would be as such they never rolled it out quickly accross all the regions instead taking a staggered approach. The chances of a note 2 this year would be slim so enjoy what we have now

I think you should get the note if you love big screens like most of us here or get the S3 if you want more power and probably better spec which I am sure is going to be more expensive as well. But remember that there is always a better phone around the corner.

you should wait for the note 2
in the mean time use a string telephone

There is no announcement about the Note 2. Go buy the Note 1 now and skip a generation for the Note 3 and that way you'll always feel a significant upgrade.

What a pointless question! Should I get an existing only just released phone or wait for a fabled unicorn? Only you can answer that buddy. Personally, I'd go for a phone that is on the market (and amazing, by the way) rather than wait it out for the next generation which could still be years away!
S3 or Note - again only one of them is actually for sale (or has any firm specs) so you can't really make that decision either. If your contract is up in June, wait until then and see what is actually available at the time!
Pretty much everyone who has a Note will tell you how happy they are with it though. (Apart maybe the spoiled children who aren't happy we are having to wait for ICS )

Just get the Note. You could wait for Note 2, then for Note 3 etc. And the fact is that Note 1 is already amazing.

what about 3
You should wait for the note 3.... I dont understand people... You can also wait for the 4 i have heard it should be better...

Bought the Note now, it won't hurt you.
In matter of fact I do think this is one of my smartest decision i made. Definitely useable for work, for fun or just take a simple sketch
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk

Whatever you buy and whenever you buy it, there's a always new model just around the corner, so there's no perfect time to buy. I can say that the Note is by far the best phone I've had - better than the S2 I had.

note 2 is planned for 2013. For 2012 samsung said they stay with the Note 1.
and atm there is no big update possible. later this year with A15 quadcore maybe.

[Q] Too late to buy the N7000?

Hey guys!
Do you think it's too late for me to buy the galaxy note n7000 (international version)?
I know that the N7100 (Galaxy Note 2) has been released and will launch mid-October~mid-November..
It even has pre-orders started on UK sites such as clove.co.uk and handtec.co.uk
I'm just wondering if you think it's a waste of money to buy the n7000 right now as opposed to paying 200 more dollars and buying the N7100.
I did the math and the Note n7000 in brand new is $540 at expansys-usa.com
and the Note 2 N7100 in brand new is $740 at clove.co.uk, handtec.co.uk...
Do you think I should go with the original or the new one?
ALSO!!!!!
******Do you guys know if the original note N7000 will have an update along with Jellybean such as the airview, new camera update and other features from the N7100?
I think u should wait for note 2 if u have more money better hardwear and yes note 1 wilk have jelly bean update i think in nov likr in a month and half so its all ur choice
Development-wise, I'd say go for the original note. If you look at our forum here, we have ripe roms, kernels, mods, and tweaks what not that are sure to cater to everyone's tastes. That, plus It'll take a while for development to start with the note2. And if you'll have a look at azrienoch's latest vid, (if what he says does come through, which I really do hope does not) things aren't so rosy.

the new note won't get airview and won't get camera updates making it faster cause there are hardware improvements required for those updates.. You better buy the note 2
if you ask me this is just the right time to buy note if you find with reasonable price. because note just got a decent rom LRT. has enough hardware power and versus note 2 for me i prefer 1280 * 800 over 1280 * 720. but dont forget my reasonable price requirement. here in Turkey they still sell it from 880 USD.

if money is not an issue, I'd say you go for the Note 2. Clearly... it has all the best and right features that the original one has yet to get. Hardware wise.. the original one isn't even comparable enough (we'll unless you overclock it, but still.. it has a limitation to it). Software part.. the new Note 2 has the official stock TW JB 4.1 installed already... Something that all of us here using the original one is still yearning to use and experience. Yeah there are a lot of custom JB Roms out there... but nothing still beats the official JB that Samsung has released already for the new Note.
So yeah, Go for the Note 2.. that is the best recommendation I can offer you.
P.S. Don't ask for any ETA updates when Samsung will release the official JB, co'z it's anybody's guess when they're going to release it. It might be this next month.. or next year.. who knows.....
Its already been launced in India y'day and estore price $758 (offering free bluetooth headset)
But usally in open market you should get 15-20 $ less to it.
Indian user may get some benefit by raising Rs value to $ since 1wk, i think its at least 2.5Rs / $ in last 5 days. ultimately make cheaper Rs1500 or more.
Back to topic
In my point of view, Note 2 is worth to spend 200$ extra
I agree, You should ideally hang out for the Note 2 if you can afford it
Thats not to say the Note 1 is becoming obsolete ! The Note 1 is still an awesome device with plenty of life left in it.
And if you can get it for a great price, then you wouldnt regret it !
Im going to get the Note 2 and give the Note 1 to my misses. (she thinks she's getting the Note 2 because its her time for a renewal ! my my my, How wrong is she ! lol )
It's too early to buy the N7000. After the launch of the N7100 prices N7000 will decline significantly. If $ 200 is not a problem I would advise to buy N7100.
I got my Galaxy Note 2 weeks ago and very happy with it, The reason I didn't wait for the Note II is that I don't really need all the new features of the Note II.
As I said before my Note serves all my needs and also the new apps added in the latest ICS 4.0.4 makes the Note alot better and smoother.
At the end it is personal preferences.
Regards

For me the only disadvantage of the Note is the burn in problem. And that has not been solved with the Note 2. Ok there is quad core, nfc and lte. I don't need those but I cannot speak for you.

well... the price of the note 2 in israel came down in the last few weeks down to the lvl of 3000nis ~ 790$ (yep... 34% tax makes it not cheap)

should i do it? that the hard question, 260$ doesn't lay down on the street...

The Note II is amazing, but there will always be a new phone on the horizon.
Get your money's worth out of what you have now. If you can sell it for a good
price, like >75% of its current value, you still lose.
I love my note 1. But having said that and going through how Samsung treated us with the emmc bug, I will be only picking up nexus devices from now on. Direct updates from Google is a boon. My opinion completely.

Ask yourself the following questions:
What makes the Note 2 better then Note 1?
And are those changes game breaking?
Are those changes worth "upgrading" phone?
Like someone above me said: New phones come out each day.
My opinion: Wait for "the next big thing"
Note 1 can do almost the same things as Note II
I was at a best buy today and got a chance to look at the note II up close. Honestly my galaxy notes screen looked crisp and sharper than the display model Note II. And I really liked the 16x10 screen ratio on my note. I'll wait for the Note III.

Do not expect note III to have 16 x10 screen ratio. It will be 16 x9 with full HD maybe.
Any way Samsung to update the Galaxy Note directly to Android 4.1.2
so stick to Note 1 have some experience, compare and then decide about upgrade to note 2

I was eager to buy note II but when the xls2 firmware was available I decided to not spend the money because JB in note 1 its awesome.. TW UX was the what made me stay with note I... And now we even have multi windows so I see no point for upgrading until at least SGS IV.. The beast its coming in no time with the latest samsung processor/gpu and the latest screen technology.. With 5" Screen... Guess it has no physical buttons..

I would wait a couple of months before upgrading, they're just about to release a string of 1080p quad core phones in late Jan early Feb.

Agreed and as has been said before note 2 screen (in my opinion) is not game chagingly better and as Note 1 can do much of the things the 2 can wait and see what comes early next year.
If Sammy continue as they have the note 3 is less than a year away anyway.
The GNII screen seemed fuzzier and less sharp than my note. Honestly I went into the store looking to buy the Note II but when I saw how fuzzy the screen was I was turned off. My screen seemed brighter and crisper. And yes I went into the Note II display settings and jacked the brightness all the way up and picked the same dynamic screen mode that my note I used.
I feel my Note can hold me over without issue until the Note III. And 16x9 is not a huge thing to get used to, I understand that is the standard. I really enjoyed the 16x10 though...
Just got rumours on galaxy s4.... 8 core processor?!!

Many rumors are floating around that Samsung will be using the Exynos 5450 Quad-Core CPU clocked at 2.0 GHz, the Exynos 5450 is part of Samsung’s Exynos Series 5 and is based on Cortex-A15 Architecture, a 8-Core Mali-T658 GPU, 2GB of RAM and a 13 Megapixel rear facing camera. According to our Korean Insiders, Samsung will be equipping the Galaxy S IV with a stunning 4.99″ SuperAMOLED Display with a resolution of 1920×1080 (1080p Full HD) giving the display a 441PPI Pixel Density and the display is already in Mass Production.

If these rumors hold true and the GSIV actually comes out with a 4.99" screen, do you think Samsung will just merge the Note functionality with the Galaxy series and just produce one single device rather than two? I mean it makes sense. One device with large screen and S Pen functionality. They seem to be making the Galaxy phone screen larger and larger, why not right?
I gave a try to Note II yesterday, compared 2 web sites side by side and to my surprise, Note I display is somehow better. Display ratio on Note I is also still better.
Smoothness in Note II was not noticeable, no reason to upgrade at the moment. There would be 1 way to get involved and it is smart dock, but that thing is not that common now and I guess with Note III it will be more polished and apps got more optimization, so it will be like Padphone I guess.
Note I is simply better, not by hardware of course, but how everything fit together.

Note 1 or note 2

Posted this on the note 2 forum also.
Probably been asked a thousand times.
But in real world usage. Is the note 2 worth twice the note 1
I can buy a note 1 with extras cases batteries etc for about £200
Yet a note 2 with nothing else are around £400-420
Does the 2gb improve the multi tasking
Does the quad core improve gaming and general usage lots.
Is the spen more responsive on the note 2
Is the screen smaller width a problem.
Have owned a note 1 before and loved it.
imo real advantage of note 2 over note 1 is it's screen quality as note 1 is rg-bg note 2 is rgb-rgb.
Note 1 with JB its awesome... And can hold you some months until the new smartphone era comes.. Have you seen the galaxy S IV rumored specs?
Tapatalking on my n7000
Wow have had lots of response from the note 2 forum members. Hardly any from here. Think perhaps the note 2 is the way forward. Got to have a decent community to join. As well as a decent phone. This place used to be great. Guess things move on.
The same will be the case when you ask the same kinda question in note 2 community when the s4 or note 3 is well settled.
People here are using note 1 and there using note 2. If you ask here about comparison, ppl will only talk about note 1.
Now the questions you asked are about note 2 and a person who has a used a note 2 and note 1 will only be able to answer.
Don't judge the community for not replying to comparison questions.
Ok fair enough. I guess the note 2 community have had the chance to try both. Sorry slap me and tell me to shut up. Problem is I really prefer the note 1 design.
Nothing offensive m8
If you gonna buy a new phone now, go for a latest one, or if you can wait for couple of months better phones are gonna come.
It all depends, does quad core and 2g ram js really needed by you in day to day life. If yes go for it. It's a wonderful phone as far as I know from the people who has owned both

Note 8 or S9+

I am so torn between these 2. The price for the Exynos S9+ is insane compared to the SD, and I can also get my hands on a 256GB Note 8, but I don't want to buy a super awesome 1 year old processor. Looking for input.
Edit: I changed "dated" to "a super awesome 1 year old processor" for the ones that are easily distracted and/or offended.

Note 8 is not "outdated tech" , as others stated above, the really important thing is, do you use, like, need, love the s pen? Because the s pen is the very heart of a galaxy note, If the only reason for you is having the "latest tech" there are many options for you to choose, even in the vivo or huawei brands, in other words, if you have doubts, then the note 8 is not for you
Sticking with the Note 8 i cant justify spending another $900 plus after a few months with the Note...just waiting for the Note 9.

That ^ and lets say you on payment plan. You just had to put $200-300 down plus payments. With the galaxy s9+ you will have to do the same all over. Is it really worth a slightly better Note 8? I don't think so.
This Note 8 is a powerful phone good for 2-3 years, maybe more. Like others said wait for Note 9 or Note 10. I myself waiting for Note 10. The rumor specs of Note 9 seems to be nothing to jump out of your seat for.
If your 1 who wants hottest phone all the time, then go for it. It's your money spend how you want.
I love my note 8, I will keep it 'till note 10 arrives, when you are really into the note series, anything else seems capped, the s pen has no match!
I'm very partial to my Note 8 I did have to get the Galaxy S8 plus because of the Note 7 issue and it was a great phone but I'll wait for the Note 9 and Note 10,I also like the dual cameras on the Note 8 how they are side by side, not really liking the cameras on the S9 plus being one underneath the other,I know they are way better specs wise but it's just an aesthetic thing for me.
Lol @ when he said dated tech. LOL.

Same here. Love my Note 8, plus I'm not one of those to upgrade every year, the new features from one gen to next is not much, just a waste of money to upgrade every year IMO considering how much phones cost these days. I love the spen so I continue to buy Note over S if possible.
I'll be waiting for the Note 10, I'm betting they are planning to make a big improvement with it being the 10, well hopefully.
As was mentioned before, the Note 8 is far from outdated. Amazing piece of tech. I recommend to shop around to save some money.
Go for the 9 if you don't use the S-pen
I say outdated, because both cpu's are being replaced in the flagship lineup. Don't get caught up on the wording.
I decided on the S9 Plus, because I stopped using the s pen. I sold my S8 plus to help fund another device, and so I rolled back to my Note 4 in the meantime, and I haven't used the S pen once. Thanks for all of the input.
S9 if you don't need Spen. Note8 if you want Spen and save some money
I for one am tired of the "gotta have it! gotta have it!" with the new phones. The changes from phone to phone aren't worth the $900+ IMO. I will be keeping my Note8 until it breaks/starts tweaking out.

So in other words, we aren't going to use accurate wording that best describes what we are saying? You got the reaction that those words warranted man.
Dated is such an overstatement anyways. I actually considered buying a Note 4 for back up last night. $189 new at walmart.com.

Worthy upgrade from s8+?

I've currently got an s8+ that has no issues, however I'm really interested in the note 9. To those of you that have it would you think it's worth upgrading to from an s8+?
Yes.... Had an S8+ before my Note 8. Note 8 a definite worthy upgrade to the S8+, Note 9 a definite upgrade from the Note 8.
Note 9 is the best phone available right now. If you love Note phones, you'll love the Note 9. Lots of upgrades over the S8+ with this phone.

I upgraded from the s8+ to the 512 gb version, just for the storage increase. I think it was worth it.
I think it's a worthy upgrade. I got mine thru Verizon and got a decent trade in for the S8+ witch made the monthly payments only $1 more than Samsung financing. I originally gave my wife my Note 8 last week because I purchased a new Pixel 2xl. That didn't work out so good so I returned that and went for the Note 9. I've only had the S8+ for a few days but can say just for the extra screen size and camera it's well worth the upgrade if you don't mind the bill. I can't comment on the battery yet but can say the S8 was doing good for me there.
Thanks for the advice everyone. I've never owned a note but I'm interested in this one for the camera, batter, and s pen. Is the s pen really as awesome as most reviews make it seem?
Best phone ever. Only flaw really is sealed battery.

Ii say definitely, coming form the Note 8, the small upgrades actually have big impact.
I agree. Have had s8 plus and Note 8. While it's not a ground breaking advance over last year's phones it is just a little better in almost every way. If you can afford to, it is 100% worth an upgrade.
As far as the s-pen goes it is something you'll either play with for a week and never touch again, or it will become something that is invaluable to you. I've used Note phones since the 2. Skipped the 5 because it didn't have an sd card slot and was devastated when I had to return my Note 7. I use the pen almost every day at work and while I could live without it my workflow would become less efficient for sure.

i came from the s8 plus and i have no regrets. More storage, better battery. A little bigger screen. Brighter Screen, Better speakers. S pen ( if you use it ), More ram ! better processor ! come on homie. Make that switch
I say if you can pick it up go for it. A lot of people who has a Note 8 can't justify the move because of the price point but I made the switch. This is coming from a guy who was trashing Apple for their iPhone X price. The Note series are the only phones that excites me and all of the added feature did not make me hesitate (maybe a little)

It isn't. Haven't found a need for it honestly
I used to root every phone I owned. These days the hassle far outweighs the benefits imo.

Couldn't agree more! Plus there are so many apps that can do things now that used to require root.
