Which root for Gingerbread XWJVI? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I would like to root my Samsung Galaxy S but i cannot find the right root file for my gingerbread xwjvi. I would like to afterwards flash to the new android 4. So it needs to work with clockworkmod.
I have look through this thread but not found any for XWJVI:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108

If you find the right root file, tell me please! I also need it!

FOund it but confused
Alright the root file is over here - link This works only if you are running Froyo(2.1)(Do this at ur own risk .Im not responsible if anything goes wrong!!!!)
You have to install this root file by booting into recovery and then installing the update.zip by selecting install update from sd card in the bootloader menu(I am assuming that u know how to do this but if you dont just post it)
By the way you can flash(install) android 4 custom ROM using the stock recovery too. Why do u wanna use CWM only to flash the ROM???

THanks for your answer webconnect.
Actually you are right when you wonder why i only ask for the CWM.
What i actually want to do is to have the lastest stable android on the phone.
Then only thread i found about this stated to root and then use cwm.
If you know another way with the stock recovery instructions would be much appreciated.
Thanks alot in advance

[Q] Samsung i9000T (Telstra Australia): Custom ROM

Hi Guys
New here so please be gentle...
I have a stock Telstra Samsung i9000T with Eclair 2.1 update 1 firmware and I'm wanting to flash to a new ROM from Doc's Kitchen. I currently have confirmed recovery and download (2e) but was told I need to gain 3e recovery and download before flashing to my new ROM. I have rooted the phone and backed up everything including /efs folder. My question is this: Can I use the latest SpeedMod Froyo K13B kernel to gain 3e recovery and download or is it exclusively for Froyo ROMs only - not my Eclair?
Matthew
do you think you could do me a favour first please mate?
i am in desperate need of the telstra ROM, could you enter recovery and make a backup of your ROM then upload it please
also, i dont think you can flash roms with 3e, you need 2e, you can use ODIN to flash speedmod kernal to get a really good one
thanks!
Certainly mate, I'll be sure to do that for you before I flash it this evening. This what I was told to do to get my new ROM on the phone:
1. z4root
2. mybackup root -> backup stuff
3. find sgs tools over at xda; it has a script in it to backup /efs (IMEI) for you
4. copy everything from /sdcard to PC (this will include the mybackup files and the efs backup created by sgs tools)
5. copy new rom .zip to sdcard
6. phone fully charged
7. install speedmod kernel as per http://touristinparadise.blogspot.com/2010/11/samsung-galaxy-s-how-to-install.html; see also http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822756 if you want more info or alternative downloads
8. sim & internal sd out if you are being paranoid
9. reboot into recovery; apply zip from sdcard, select zip -> select your cooked rom
10. first boot will take about 5 minutes
I'm currently at no. 6 in readiness for speedmod kernel
that would be good if you could do that, you would save my ass lol, i need it for warranty, telstra are cracking the ****s!
here is what i did.
if your 2.1.
root using z4root, download rom manager, install recovery mode, then apply the ROM you wish ( ps, after you have updated your stuff ofcourse )
i would be very thankful if you would get that telstra ROM for me, will greatfully buy you a beer!
Sure thing mate and thanks for the heads-up I'll send you a PM once I've gotten the 2.1 done.
thanks mate, appreciate it heaps!.
will be waiting patiently, then i can get my damn phone fixed, stupid internal memory shat itself

OK few pointers..
if all goes tits up, don't worry try these
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11470507&postcount=79
This is also from the same thread :-
2e was the first type of recovery screen and 3e is its replacement on a firmware upgrade to Froyo but it has limitations so you can't just flash update.zip in it and get it to work like on 2e. Though ClockworkMOD does work and once your in that you can do anything.
And maybe use the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=934409 to get a quicker answer, worked for me an others
Thank you so much guys I really appreciate the assistance
@ aussiesausage: I still haven't forgotten you mate, just getting the rugrats off to bed.
Edit: Links to Stock Telstra FW and CSC sent via PM
heh thankyou so very much dude!
phone is still stuffed, but now telstra will stop *****in at me

Any chance you could pass this onto me mate? I'm in a similar situation, i9000T speaker has died and of course Telstra aren't going to like repairing it without the original rom.
-SlimLegs
It would be much appreciated if you could also send me the link as well. I didnt make a back-up before i flashed my first ROM. Had a few scares flashing, so would like to keep a copy for an emergency
Hey PV5150, I was wondering if you would please be kind enough to also post a copy of your stock 2.1. I've been searching, and can't get my hands on a clean version.
any chance one of you guys could send me the file and i'll link it for all of us other poor buggers on telstra, has taken me ages to find someone who has it.
Yes please.
sorry to bring old hread up but has anyone got the links
i have been searching for ages
I would appreciate it if you could send me the link.
In the same situation had to buy another galaxy s telstra refused to repair because wasnt there ROM, i also need this 2.1 update ROM. Same issue as one of the other guys, internal memory card is bust. Love the phone couldnt find this rom anywhere so gave up and bought another phone lol

[Question] Help needed and advice regarding upgrading my firmware please.

Hi everyone, I am brand new sgs owner and first time smart phone user and I upgraded my phones firmware on kies to 2.3.3 / baseband xxjvo / build number gingerbread.xwjvh
I been talking to a few people that have got 2.3.4 and cyanogen mod 7. And I really want to get one of them because my battery life is pathetic on 2.3.3
I have an idea how to do it (I have watched alot of tutorials) but what is confusing me is all the different downloads like cwm and speed mod, kernals, ROMS. All these terms are driving me mad as I dont know if I need to flash this stuff first to upgrade the firmware.
I have been told I may or may not need to root my phone to make it all work because of the current firmware xxjvo 2.3.3?? So what do i do?
Can I just flash a new firmware on via odin? or do i need to flash diff kernals or clockwork mod or speed mod what ever they are to make it work properly.
Im sure its all easy enough once its understood but I cant find basic explanations for all these terms.
I really dont want to mess up my phone but i know I can get this done once i know how.
So could someone that knows please tell me once off, what do I have to do to upgrade from gingerbread 2.3.3 xxjvo to something better like cm7 or 2.3.4.
Do I need to root first? install CWM or speed mod or whatever.
Also what is CWM and speed mod. are the roots?
Sorry for not knowing anything as i said its my first smart phone and I want to get to know how to use it to its full extent
Will greatly appreciate any advice/ help given.
If some ones going to help me could they post the links to the downloads that i will need.
Thanks very much
1.its simple root ur fone first via odin and then flash the voodoo/fugumod lagfix(incase ur experience any lag)
2.Download Rom Mgr premium and download (cyanogen mod7 ,nightlies or watever)
3.Take a backup using Mybackuppro or titanium backup before u flash cm7
4.Go to Rom Mgr Premium and then install the rom of ur choice and also make sure u check GAPPS(if u want gmail, market an all crap)
I m a newbie 2 Galaxy S myself, but i have quite som experience on rooting other fones

Here are some posts I think will help u find some answers,
Download mode is HOME BUTTON+VOL DOWN+POWER BUTTON
Recovery mode is HOME BUTTON+ VOL UP+POWER BUTTON
1 Android ROM and rooting dictionary: all the terms explained
2 A link explaining how to flash a custom Rom via Odin and their downloads.
3 Deodexed Stock roms
Hope this helps. By the way all these are custom rom lists and not samsung stock firmware.

Like root then something else followed by the firmware.
Could I upgrade from xxjvo without rooting?
Again sorry all the questions I feel like a dumbass.

Double post
Again sorry for being persistent but could someone give be a step by step quire to upgrading my current firmware xxjvo 2.3.3 to something better for battery and better radio signal.
Must the phone be rooted first? Must I install anything else before or after the new firmware
Thanks
Hi, check out samfirmware.com to download stock 2.3.4
I'm on the newest jvr, and my battery is good.
It's also flash manuals there for how to use odin.
thats the safest!
If you want root permission, you can flash cfroot kernel after the rom.
Edit: i'm on the oldest 2.3.4 jvr, looks like it came a new relese today.

Is a specific ROM needed to run a different firmwares? or vice verse?
If I flashed 2.3.4 does that mean I have a new ROM or new firmware or both?
thanks
Pls do refer my previous post for upgrading to 2.3.4 GB roms (2)
2.3.4 roms are way better for battery. There are some light weight roms with excellent battery life eg SURFACE,Matrux rom, Juwe's Smart Edition(My Pick) etc
You dont need to be rooted to flash a custom rom via ODIN.
CM7 is a custom rom and I would recommend it only if you know what u r doing. Its not very advisable for a noob (imho).
There is insanity cm7 034 with gb boot loaders [ROM] insanity CM 034 [16.08.2011] - Multi DPI But its in heavy dev stage. Pls go through their thread before flashing it.

Most of times you not only need to be rooted, but also have a deodexed rom.
Check this out first on the themes threads, if they don't mention about deodexed rom, ask about it.
Sometimes its easier to install a custom rom already themed.
For rooting search for CF-Root thread from Chainfire on dev section (I have a link in my signature), and search the version for your rom.
Get Odin 1.30 or 1.82 and flash CF-Root file as PDA
that's all, you have to make sure before trying this that you have 3-button combo.

[GUIDE] Root your Galaxy Mini/Pop with 2.3 (Gingerbread) firmware.

Well, I see lot's of questions about rooting. Here's a small guide on how to do that.
1. Download the attachment to this post. (upd_1.zip)
2. Put the file on the root of your SD-card. (Not in a folder/directory, but on the top layer.)
3. Power down your phone.
4. Enter recovery mode by holding Home+Power-buttons at the same time.
5. Use the volume key's to scroll through the menu. Select 'Apply update from sd-card'(Could be something else, but looks like this.) Use the home button to aplly function.
6. Use 'Select zip from sd card' to find upd_1.zip on your SD-card.
7. When it asks you if you wanna apply the update, select yes. Use the home button to confirm.
8. Wait for it to finish, then reboot. Your phone is now rooted.
P.S. I'm sorry, but I'm not able to make screenshots/pictures. But, it ain't that hard.

Tried it, and it didn't work... Don't know why it didn't. Got similar problems as using super one click. It almost looks like the exploit that it uses was closed by samsung. The upd_1.zip is one of the procedures that seems to be working all the time...
But, thanks anyway!
EDIT: The zip does NOT work on the XXKPI stock ROM. This does!!! Thanks!
Some doubts related to rooting !
1. I rooted my current firmware, and now planning to change the firmware (Stock ROMs only), so I should have to repeat the Process again, isn't it? (ie, applying Upd_1.zip file)
2. Does the Custom ROMs comes pre-rooted (CyanogenMod, Vanilla ROM, other ROMs etc) or should have to do the rooting process manually ?
3. Is rooting helpful to move apps like Official Facebook, Twitter, FriendCaster, Yahoo Messenger etc. to SD card? PS:- I'm not using widgets anyway.
Thank you!

[Q] Verizon Tab 2.3.5 rooted, need cwm for ICM

I've read several threads over the last few days and I'm a little confused. I want to make sure I'm on the right track before I use the wrong recovery files.
I rooted my tab(verizon) by using heimdall and applied a stock gingerbread rom with root. now I need to get clockworkmod recovery but when I download it from the market it doesn't list the galaxy tab as a choice to flash the recovery.
I read want to know if I need to use ADB to get CWM Recovery? Is Rom Manager for Froyo only? Is there a Gingerbread version? Will the CWM apply ext4?
I need these answered so I can then move to ICM on my tab as I read that I need CWM and Ext4.
If anyone can answer me that would be a big help. I searched a lot so if I missed something very easy, I'm sorry. I read the Q&A, but I am still left with unanswered questions.
Thanks
Just hemindal miui, and it will give correct cwm
