[Q] Vibrate when receiving SMS on ICS? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Maybe I'm just a complete idiot, but I can't seem to get my phone to vibrate when I recieve a SMS. I have been to Seetings -> Sound. My silent mode says vibrate and I have ticked Vibrate and ring. Below that in SYSTEM everything is unticked, but it shouldn't have any consequences.
My phone vibrates just fine when i receive a call. Any help please?

Exactly what I was looking for! Lol I felt like a complete noob.
Thanks buddy.

I have HTC One V and it looks like it is very lazy. It doesn't vibrates every time I receive a SMS, sometimes it vibrates 15 minutes later. Does anybody have an idea why?

Oh...thanks guys! Uf, I was almost sure that something went wrong with the ROM. Thanks a lot!

Vibrate for text message?

I'm maybe just being stupid - but I can't get my diamond to vibrate when I get a text. I think I've set it correct, but its not working.
Using TouchFlo - I go into "Settings", then "Sound".
I press "Advanced", and then choose the "Notifications" tab.
From the "Event" drop down list I select "Messaging: new Text Message"
Then I tick the "Vibrate" box.
Is there something else I need to do?!
BTW - my ROM version is 1.37 if thats relevant
If you mean that your phone should 'wake up' and vibrate when you receive an SMS, then have a look at the 3rd point from the link below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=398265
If it won't vibrate at all, and only will make a sound I don't know the answer. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately it won't vibrate at all on receiving an SMS.
Even if the phone is awake and I get a message it does nothing apart from a little green 1 appears on the messaging icon - and the directional pad light flashes.
The other thing I've noticed when testing this is that the phone takes about 5 seconds to actually start 'ringing' when getting a call!

Yep ive noticed that on mine as well...im running 1.37 rom uk spec diamond and it takes a good few seconds before my phone will ring when i have an incoming call. Annoying but liveable i guess..also my phone wont vibrate either when receiving a text as well...just get the alert and notification.

Mmm, bummer... Just tested it with my phone. I previously used the 'wake on SMS' edit, and now selected 'vibrate' and unchecked the sound alert for Messaging: New text message. It worked like a charm.

Same here, even with my previous HTC Wizard. I guess it has to do with WM devices in general!?
Hmmm... now I've just realised that my phone doesnt chime or anything when I get a text - despite me having a tone set.
I tried a soft reset - but this did nothing. I dont really want to try a hard reset as I will lose all my proggies etc.
I've maybe give the tweak above a try!
I've tried the above tweak, but I'm still having no success.
I'm getting absolutely no alert at all when i get a text message. With the tweak, the phone comes out of standby and the screen displays the message - but it won't chime or vibrate at all.
Any ideas?
A phone that won't alert me of a text is no use as most of my communication is through texting!
Finally resorted to a hard reset - which solved the problem.
Spent the last few hours reinstalling everything!!
Now time to make a sprite backup whilst I have everything sorted!

Vibration when call begins.

Hi. My diamond doesn't vibrate anymore when the call is begining. (You know there's only one fast vibration when the connection is ok). Even if the option is activated in the "phone config".
Any idea ? Thanks.
(not a big problem, but I like this option ...).
Check if your Diamond vibrates while playing Teeter ?
Have you chekcked that the setting is on in the phone settings?
Are you sure your ring and/or system volume aren't set to "silent", the setting below "vibrate"? Otherwise the phone won't vibrate when you're getting called.
same problem...
vibration working in all other apps, set to sound and set to on in phone settings, when call begins no vibr...
You might check how it's been set in your registry:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\RingTone0\Script
Check this value. There should be an "v" in it, indicating the phone should vibrate. If it isn't, set it to your own like: See http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=RegistryRingtoneScripts
ive "av0pw3r" there...
v0 indicates it should vibrate 0 seconds. Try changing this to v1 or v3.
I've apw3r.
Doesn't working with av3pw3r ...
(to aqeelhaider, Diamond vibrate on Teeter)
The setting is on on phone settings ...
Any idea ?
By the way, I think there's an other issue with my phone. I can't use the feature for adding phone number if it's not already in the phone at call's end ... Enven if the setting is ok in the config menu.

at the connection established...when the people answer...
now working...i dont know why or how...
Ahh then I misunderstood. I thought you mend the vibrating for indicating someone is calling you, not the vibrate on call established. The registry tweak I supplied are for the ringtone, notifying you your getting called.
Open the dial pad > press menu > options > advanced > and tick -> vibrate device when connection is established
Hope it helps

Did you disable the htc phone skin?
IF yes then you can't have "vibrate device when connection established
At least that's the case with me.
I disabled the htc skin but i sure miss this feature . In the
phone/settings/advanced, the "vibrate device when connection established" is ticked but nothing happens , unfortunately.
Also the sylus to notes isn't working but i don't care for that.
hi everyone
is there a registry tweak that disables the vibrate feature when call is established?
cos i have a problem where the advance menu tab doesn't exist in my menu > option tabs
thanks
to get to the advanced tab you need to do this
click start>settings>phone>then click the little arrows at the bottom to show Advanced then click on it.

"v" indicates how many seconds the phone should vibrate before ringing, This "v" is useless in the case of "vibrating when conected"

It comes when you set the phone on ring and vibrate both.
Set the phone only to ringing mode and it will vanish. Once you activate to vibrate along with ring it will emerge in the status bar.
Used to remove it in the GB using JKay mods - Deluxe Settings
I think it shows up whenever you have your phone set to vibrate..either with ringer or on silent mode.
thanks for the replies guys, think ill just have to live with being told its on vibrate

Silence Bug?

Anyone else noticed that if you completely silence the phone (not vibrate mode), notifications aren't silenced? If it's in vibrate mode, then all is good, but at night I'd rather it not even vibrate.

I just put mine on silent mode and was able to get GMail and Email notifications with no sound. Did you reboot the phone and see if it persist?

Huh. Yeah, I rebooted. I just wiped to root the phone, so we'll see if it comes up again. Thanks for confirming it's just me. lol
EDIT:
Nope, it's still happening even after a wipe. It's also doing it on vibrate mode (maybe I just slept through it last night). Bizarre that it's just me, and persists after a wipe.

Doesn't happen to my wife's First.
Sent from my HTC One
Okay, so silence/vibrate work if I use the volume keys to turn it all the way down, but not if I toggle it through the power menu or WidgetLocker. Not a huge deal, as it's obviously some little glitch there. Thanks for the feedback guys.
