Hello everyone.
My problem sounds strange.
Whatever ICS build I flash, I cannot uninstall app or clear data.
As a away to fix this, I've reflashed back to different stock GB ROMs ( KJ3, KJ4, KK3, Cl1 wipe) and the problem still the same.
As I had read somewhere; this problem occurs only with some NEW Notes which come with indirectly rootable ROM and you downgrade it to earlier stock GB in order to root.
The initial Firmware that came with the device LA1 ...
Any suggestion please ?!
worth to know that I am currently on TMT 1.0. I 've tried earlier version of MIDNOTE ,ZCLP6 and everything was the same "trying to uninstall does work and application info always shows Computing"

To make sure you have proper root, try to paste anything (a pic or video) to the /system folder and see if it's saved
Tested, root works perfectly .... but it's still not fixed
Ok try this:
-download AbyssNote Kernel version 4.2 and ICS Stunner and put them in your sd card
- reboot to recovery and flash AbyssNote Kernel version 4.2 (ONLY use version 4.2)
- after flashing is done, go to advanced menu---> reboot recovery
- now your in Redpill Recovery, go to install menu and flash ICS Stunner 1.4.19
- press reboot system after you finish installation
Test if uninstalling is working this way

Finally it works, but I've lost root privileges.
Do I need to reflash everything starting from android ?!
Because I've flashed this working method over TMT with wipe data/ factory reset!

Can you flash AbyssNote kernel version 4.2? If you can then you're lucky, just flash it, go to advanced menu and choose Reboot Recovery and from Redpill Touch recovery flash your preferred ROM

I want to Flash Team ICSSGS [Android 4.0.3] (Link to ROM Thread) but I am not for sure what Bootloaders or Kernel I need to use.
I currently have:
Firmware Version: 2.2
Baseband Version: I897UCKB1
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9
Build Number: FROYO.UCKB1
In general, the Gingerbread bootloaders are preferred with any of the ICS ROMs, because they are more ubiquitous and can be used with virtually any version 2.1 thru 4.0. Kernel-wise, the ICS ROMs come with a kernel, and your only other option is Glitch v14 beta right now...but mostly, you shouldn't need to worry about flashing anything beyond what's in the ROM itself right now.

So that ROM I listed in my OP comes with its own Kernel?
And is there a particular Bootloader I should use?
If there is, may you please link me to it?
Hey im currently running the ROM you are asking about. To answer your questions you have to be on the gingerbread bootloaders. You can flash those using odin, or since there is an official update out, use Kies mini to update your phone to gingerbread and that will flash the bootloaders for you.
About the kernel, the ROM you posted includes a kernel in the .zip and when you install the .zip it will flash the kernel for you. Its a fine kernel and works great so dont worry about changing it unless you have problems.
Here is the link on how to flash the bootloaders using Odin. Its not a hard process and pretty safe so let us know how you come out on the other side!

Now when I flash this bootloader you listed, will Froyo still boot or will I have to flash my ROM afterwards?
froyo will still boot. GB BL are backwards compatible and the ISCSGS script should allow it to flash over any ROM
Hi all.
as i can't post yet in a thread mentioned by mrnapolean1 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362092) I'll try to ask my question here, as it related to a question asked by this thread starter
so i have gingerbread 2.3.5, installed CornKernel_UCKK4_v603 and custom rom SimplyStock KK4 V1.0 , so if i wanted to switch Team ICSSGS [Android 4.0.3] should i do following?
1. wipe data /factory reset
2.wipe system
3.flash from recovery mode Android 4.0.3 zip?
I already have a backup made with Efs Pro as a tar file
anything else i need to do?
thank you so much in advance

Yes, Froyo will still boot. If this were a layer cake it would go something like bootloader, kernel, rom. So basically, your bootloader has nothing to do with your kernel or your rom but it is at the bottom layer of the boot process. It does effect which ROMs you can use though as gingerbread and ICS roms require GB bootloaders. So flash the bootloaders, you will still be on Froyo. Update to GB. Root GB. Place the ROM on your internal SD and then flash it. If you run into any problems check the common problems page found on the first page of the SGSICS ROM.

First, if you want to keep any of your apps or contacts backup those as well using Titanium Backup. Make sure to backup to the External SD card or make a copy of the backup somewhere other than the phones internal SD.
Second, you dont have to wipe data/factory reset before you flash. This is only if you have the problem of a bootloop when you try to install. I had this problem and when I did the wipe data afterward it fixed it immediately. So follow this:
1: Boot into CWM
2: install rom
IF you have an issue with a boot loop at this point
1: Get back into CWM using the button combination
2: Wipe data/Factory Rest and Wipe Cach

IMHO the best way to go from gingerbread to ics 4.0 is to
- in the development section download stock kk4 without bootloaders, unless you dont have them http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300843
- then download a kernel of your choice probably cornkernal and put it on your internal sd card
- download ICS latest build and gapps and put them on your internal sd
- oneclick odin the stock kk4, let it boot up completely
- power off and install kernal via odin without aut reset
- boot into recovery, factory/data reset, clean cache, clear dalvik, install latest ics, then install gapps right after,
- reboot system and youre done.
IF you want to go back to your other rom the simplest way is to just kk4 fresh install, install kernal via odin, then isntall your rom.
I always keep all my contacts synced with gmail, and titanium backup any game data or app data i need, and reinstall apps through the market.
hope this helps

Hi having some trouble with ICS Stunner 5.0
I am trying to change the Lcd Density to 240 I use the steps in Euphoria but after the final reboot there is no change though 240 is still selected.
I think it may be a problem with root it worked fine with 4.5.
I have tried a clean install twice one thing I noticed there was no #su app or Superuser app in the drawer is that normal?
Any programs that require root work (Titanium Backup) still work.
I ran Root Checker from the market and everything was okay other than
Sudo Location: Sudo Binary not found
Would Root be the problem and should I follow these steps from another post
yes, please flash back to gb stock
root + cwm kernel
flash ics repack
flash stunner 5.0 ( read clean installation steps in post 4 )
Or is there an easier way?
Thanks
That means you don't have proper root. You can double check by copying a file using root ecplorer to system. If it fails then you don't have full root.
To ho back to GB, you need to flash abyss kernel 3.9 first(never 4.2!!), reboot recovery(not system), wipe data, restore backup, wipe data, reboot system.
I encountered exactly the same problem as you do yesterday when i discovered i had no super user and won't change screen density. When i decided to go back to gb by placing my kernel into sd, it won't allow me to transfer the file to my phone(maybe one of the bugs), it hangs at "5 mins remaining". I need to download the file on my mobile connection.

Let the rom settle. Then reboot and wipe caches and dalvik and data.
Now flash ICS stunner 5.0 and clean caches and dalvik and data & reboot!!
Lastly - Hit thanks LOL

Download and copy latest Stunner ROM on your SD Card.
Make sure you are on Rooted ROM. Reboot in recovery.
ONLY IF YOU ARE ON GINGERBREAD: Flash Abyss Kernel. Goto Advanced and Reboot Recovery.
Wipe Data (Recommended but not mandatory if you on Stunner ROM already)

This flashing method may cause improper root, it is not the kernel's fault.
I discovered the flashing process will hang at "flashing update" for abyss kernel 4.2 when you attempt to go back to GB, I don't know what causes this problem but all i know is that only absyss kernel version 3.9 works in this case
Working

Hey.
Yesterday i was trying to do an update of the 'SU binary' in Superuser under the ICS StuNNeR v1.4.26.1 ROM. But it didn't let me do it.
It told me something about S-ON and about not having a root access. So i thought that i was kinda screwed.
So i downgraded to an Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread ROM via PC Odin that was pre-rooted to see if that would help and installed CF-Root v5.3 via the 'Initial CF Root Flasher'.
After i had installed that Android 2.3.6 ROM, i made sure that i actually had full root access by copying a file from my SD card to the system folder after pressing the R/W button in Root Explorer.
That went all fine. I could also delete that file in the system folder again. So all was fine here.
Now i went into CWM and did those things.
1. Wipe Dalvik Cache
2. Wipe Cache Partition
2. Format Data / Factory Reset
After that i installed ICS StuNNeR v1.4.26.1 via CWM again (i have tried with other ICS ROMs to).
The installation of the ROM went all fine.
Now i'm in the ICS StuNNeR ROM on my Galaxy Note and i'm trying to update the 'SU binary' in Superuser.
Here it will fail and give me this message: This updater cannot update the su binary on phones that have some kind of write protection on the system partition like S-ON. You can continue to use Superuser with your outdated binary, or update su with ROM Manager.
And when i try to press the R/W button in Root Explorer here, then nothing happens either.
So my question is, what i'am doing wrong here to not get full root?
I have tried every possible ways to get root on any ICS ROMs, but without any luck.
If someone can give me an EXACT way of getting the full root back on ICS, then i would be gladly.

Well, I was double checking the instructions on Stunner and he doesn't say you have to flash the repack anymore coming from Gingerbread. He said tested and worked fine with CF root. Is the instructions of the OP of Stunner what you did?
---------- Post added at 11:15 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:13 AM ----------
I know on .19 of Stunner neobuddy switched to SuperSU, but he switched back to Superuser for compatibility with kernel. I'm on .19 now so I can't check the SU binary updater to see if I have any problems or not. Maybe someone else can!

Yes.
This is what i did.
Backup data apps.
Download and copy latest Stunner ROM on your SD Card.

Wipe Data (Recommended but not mandatory if you on Stunner ROM already)
Flash ROM.
Flash suitable Modem (Optional, recommended ICS LP5 modem)(not included in ROM)
Reboot and Read Caution.
Do not restore system apps or system data.
So yeah, as you guess. I have no freaking clue on why i can't get full root on ICS StuNNeR ROM (or other ICS ROMs).
Just follow chasmodo's guide in the Development forum (it's a sticky so you'll easily find it)..
Your problem is when you flashed Stunner directly from CWM recovery..
That guide has all the necessary steps, just follow it exactly and you'll be good with full root
So, you can't put a file in /system on Stunner at all? What about TI Backup? Do you use it? Can it gain root access?
I'm trying to work through this with you as much as I can, I'm not the smartest person on here by any means .
I want to tell you to install SuperSU, but I'm not sure if that's best. I tell you what, could you flash .19 Stunner instead of .26.1 and see if it works with root?
Edit:
I'm glad matius44 is on here to help you now!

Are you sure you used Abyss kernel version 4.2 exactly? It has worked for many users but there are minority who did not work for them too..
However, if you want to flash Stunner you can flash the ICS Repack by Chainfire (LP1 ONLY, NOT LP5) and from that you can flash Stunner and maintain root..But it's been discovered recently that repacks kernels are dangerous so I do not advice you to do it, you flash it on your own risk..

Oh ok, then i will try again with the RedPill kernel to see if this will work then.
Stay put.
Installed a rooted Android 2.3.6 ROM via PC Odin.
Then i used the 'Initial CF Root Flasher' after placing the CF-Root v5.3 (LC1) zImage file in the 'zImage' folder and then used the 'already-rooted.bat' file to get the CF-Root 5.3.
Now i used CWM Recovery (By pressing Volume Up + Home and Power button) to flash the CheckROM NoteHD v6 (LC1) ROM. Yes, i did check that i had full root access here before i did continue.
Now when i'm in the CheckROM NoteHD ROM, then i opened the CWM application and then booted into CWM Recovery and then flashed the 'AbyssNote Kernel v4.2 Red Touch Original Logo'.
Then i restarted the CWM Recovery.
From here i did this.
Wipe Dalvik Cache, Wipe Cache Partition and Format Data / Factory Reset.
Now i installed the Nandroid backup i had of my ICS StuNNeR ROM earlier before i got those problems.
And after i did this, then i finally could update the 'SU binary' in the SuperSU application and get full access to the System folder with Root Explorer .

Am afraid to say you're one of the unlucky few who this method does not apply to them
Now you have 3 solutions:
1- From a rooted Gingerbread ROM flash the LP1 (notice LP1 ONLY, NOT LP5) using Odin (Mobile or PC), and after that flash Stunner from recovery. However, I do not recommend this seeing the recent news of how dangerous ICS kernels are..
2- From a rooted Gingerbread ROM flash the new official CM9 (taking into consideration the known issues) since it uses an open source kernel instead of one of the leaks' kernel
3- Wait for official ICS release so we have more reliable ICS custom kernels
Your choice mate
EDIT: Glad you sorted it out

Hey, i edited my post while you replied to it, so check out the edited post
EDIT: I saw you made an edit that you saw that i fixed it.
Hi,
I am having trouble flashing ROMs, my move from GB to ICS was not very straight forward but it worked, used Heimdall in the end (Mac for ODIN). However, now I am unable to wipe and flash any ROM, I can flash without wipe any ROM but no ROM works if I wipe and flash. I have tried a lot of them.
1. I have checked with parted (check), dd, and e2fsck. no bad blocks or read errors
2. I have flashed with Abyss RedPill and CF-Root CWM, ROMs boot but say: "Unfortunately, Application Installer has stopped" with "OK" button. No matter how many times I reboot it or press "OK" on it no ROM works.
3. Even the ROM I am running, it shows me 500 MB free on Settings > Applications but I sometimes get out of space while installing apps and "Move to SD" fails most of the time. That is the primary reason for which I want to wipe and clean install.
Please help. Any pointers will be highly appreciated. I really want to use this phone in a working condition till October. I know I will need the Note 2 and want to skip the S3.
Thank You.

Thank you for your response, but I will appreciate if you can elaborate which recovery to use for which step and specially where to do the first step "Format both internal and external"? And once I have done that, how on earth can I do all 3 wipes because I will have no recovery and I can not have a flashable ROM file left either.
Thanks again.

Format both internal and external...
Download KL3 GB Stock Rom...
Do all 3 wipes and connect in download mide
Flash kl3 via pc odin...
Follow the videos in my sig to flash any ics rom
Its simple...
Install redpill 4.2..there are many out there search for the one that says redpilloriginaltouchlogo
Do all 3 wipes and flash any ics rom in redpill recovery
If none work...go to alliance ics rom
Follow each and every step given by robbie...
Or go to stock rooted gb...go to TMT Hybrid MIUI rom...flash according to method 5...
It should work
Good Luck

If yes...format and paste the recovery file...even if you dont have a working rom....flash kl3 via pc odin...
Go to recovery...it goes to android recovery and do the wipe...firmat the storage and paste redpill recovery which is given in the TMT MiUI thread...
Rest is as i explained last time...

FYI if you dont have cwm...it goes to android based recovery..where you can do the wipes..
I have a working ICS ROM with CWM, but when I wipe and flash a new ROM, it does not work. The boot but say "Unfortunately, Application Installer has stopped". I can not get to the launcher or any application.

That is why i said...format both
Install kl3 via pc odin..
Root and install cwm
Flash any rom you want
Or else flash robbies alliance gb and alliance ics over it
Or flash TMT MIUI over your stock rooted GB...method 5 is my recommendation
Thank you, downloading KL3 Singapore stock right now.
Please tell me where is option to "format both" or "format internal and external", I will try to get access to a Windows machine if its in ODIN.

You can do it in your phone itself...
Settings > storage
Or connect it to pc and format just like you format a pendrive
Its available in the CWM too...
Just wanted to thank everyone in this thread for helping me solve this issue.
I was on a custom GB ROM, tried to flash to Stock ICS (LKR) using Heimdall but kept encountering Application Installer crash. Based on advice in this thread I took the following steps:-
1. Flashed to Stock KKA GB ROM and rooted it using CF-Root
2. Flashed to Stock LKR ICS ROM through CWM.
No Application Installer Crash this time.

I had the problem when using heimdall to flash but the problem was sorted after flashing with odin. Seems that odin changes some other settings during the flash.

unfortunetely installer has stopped ok
everytime i open my galaxy note gt n7000 come out on the screen unfortunetely installer has stopped ok
So, this is what happened. I first upgraded to the latest official JB 4.1.2 XXLSA firmware. I noticed that it still wasn't as fast as I'd like, and wanted to try a custom ROM instead. I read through the guides in here and get that I have to downgrade to a GB ROM first in order for me not to hardbrick my phone. So, I download "N7000XBKK4 ------ 2.3.6 2011 November------- N7000OXXKK5--------------------- Nordic countries" from that list over stock ROM's in the Q&A root guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997 . I follow the flashing guide to the letter, puts my phone in download mode, runs the flash via Odin, the phone restarts, and everything goes south. Basically this happens: When I start my phone it get's to the point in the GB initial startup where I'm to touch the Android to start, but then all it does is throw messages at me about this service and that service having stopped responding, untill the phone reboots. So now I have reflashed back to the JB ROM.
So basically, what am I doing wrong, and what can I do to make a proper downgrade so I can get rooted, install CWM and get down and get it on with some custom ROM's?
Thx in advance!
Same happened with me. I flashed GB and was getting force close messages. But not a big problem. Just flash GB rom again. And after flashing just delete all user data from recovery and reboot. U wont get those messages any more.

You always need to WIPE data / factory reset after downgrading from JB .. GB is safe to go ahead.. if you choose ICS then first flash a safe kernel and then do wipe
It seems to me that KK5 is non wipe, which explains why you got those messages. The rest is detailed in nokiamodeln91's message BTW, JB is still not official for our Notes. What you installed was a leak with a safe kernel (if it was Philz).

Exactly.
I had this issue too when downgrading to GB. Wipe Cache and Dalvik and you should be ok from then on.
Wow. A lot of replies in just a single day. You guys are awesome
Now you say that the KK5 is non-wipe. Are there any GB-roms which are wipe, so to speak? Or do I have to do the flash to GB, enter recovery, wipe cache partition and do wipe/factory reset, then reboot into a now working phone, set up for root with USB and so forth, root and install CWM, copy the custom ROM to my SD-card (gonna go for ParanoidAndroid) as well as Google services if I want those, and then install them via CWM/Mobile Odin?

GB LC1 is wipe. But if you want PA (which is an excellent choice) just flash a CM10 kernel in your recovery (if your recovery is safe, like GB for example). Then follow Utacka's instructions for the installation.
But if I want CWM I should do root and install CWM there? And then flash the custom ROM from CWM?

The CM10 kernel comes with its own recovery where you can flash from. If you have root issues, just flash CWM-SuperSU-v0.99.zip. In any case don't flash from stock ICS with CMW.zip: if you are on ICS and not rooted flash the relevant Philz kernel (which is safe and will give you root and CWM) then the CM10 kernel.
Edit: what ROM do you have now?
I use the 4.1.2 XXLSA ROM
Btw, anyone knows where I can download the Google Services Framework so I can install it alongside Paranoid Android? I have been led to believe it's not included as per default
Thx for all the replies!!
If you have downloaded the xxlsa rom then it's inside the rom zip file. Path system/app/GoogleServicesFramework
