Hey guys I am looking for a new case because my Otterox Commuter is a little big for my slim jeans lol. I was just wondering if anybody has tried out this Case-Mate DIY Tough Case for the Vivid/Raider? It looks really awesome that I can put my own custom image on it but I was wondering if its sturdy like the otterbox, and if its slimmer.

lolz yes
I use a white case made by Speck and have been pleased with it..had it since October and its still very durable..especially for the $25 price..tried otterbox and had the same problem of bulkiness. I may look at the DIY case...have not seen much as far as Vivid cases on the market.

Have you thought about making your own? I know it sounds outlandish, but with the right tools and a few calls its doable. The hardest part is getting access to a hot vacumm forming machine. :S i know what your thinking WTH?!?! Your best bet would be to find one in a small chocolate shop. They would have one to make custom molds for those hollow chocolates that they make.
Anyways, you can take your tablet directly and form around it for that sleek look your looking for ur jeans , or you can even use the OTTERBOX casing. (the inside of it that holds the phone) and just get a clear accrylic and get a few high def pictures of stuff and thats it. I used to make laptop shells like that before for a kickass look! Just thought It might be an idea for anyone who is actualy looking for a cass and has access to one, because its a joke rying to find a case for any HTC really. I actualy got Laughed at by a rogers rep.
I've just got a case mate tough case for my velocity / vivid and love it, just looks like its meant to be. My Mrs has a otterbox defender on the same phone (she's very prone to dropping ect) and it is quite a bit wider but i do think it also adds allot more protection.
But I guess that's the price to pay for skinny jeans?

Thanks what I want to hear! slid in and out of your pocket easy? or do you fit it in a holister?
Yeah it goes into my pocket quite easy but i'm sorry to say that i'm not a fan of skinny jeans. This case is a good compromise between protection and size, so have a go and see?

go on eBay, there's thousands available for a buck or less per case. Tonnes of thin ones.
search for vivid or raider or velocity, they are all identical when it comes to cases

I bought the Platinum Case when getting my Nexus-S at Best Buy Mobile yesterday, hate to drop it on first week, and have a damaged nexy. After having it for a day, I was like man, this phone feels very crappy, quality wise, like loose and shaky.
So for the hell of it I took the case off. WOW !!! Very nice phone was hiding under all that plastics, the naked Nexus-S feels very solid and well put together. It was the case that made it feel ****ty.
I still have her in the case while working, will just take it off at night when at home. But would like an Otterbox "Impact" series, slim and tight rubber case. It's these 2 pc connected type cases that sound and feel loose and crappy.
I think gel cases are better for such phones.

Yeap I got it.
+1 for gel or silicone case. i have a black silicone zenus case on my vibrant and absolutely love it (and i've dropped my vibrant twice since owning it). I made the mistake of buying different cases (leather, rubberized crystal, etc) and never end up taking the zenus one off. and anything outside of a gel skin adds unflattering weight and thickness to these very sleek, thin phones. i emailed a zenus seller today to see if they were aware of any nexus s cases on the horizon.
I sent an email to Case-Mate to see if they'll be making a case for the NS. Hopefully I get a response soon.
Im extremely picky with cases
highly recommend hybrid tpu case is great but not out for ns yet
adds little bulk

Well, I hope Best Buy gets some more cases since I just found out that I have a $20 rewards certificate issued the day before the Nexus S came out.

This is a great case. I have one of the hybrids, a plain TPU, and the TMo rubber case. I switch between them, but the hybrid is the best all-arounder.

I second that
I've said it before and I'll say it again.
I hate cases. To me, putting a case on a phone like this is like bringing home a beautiful, sexy woman and then putting a fat girl suit on her.
I just returned mine as well. That case was not worth anything near 35 dollars. I'm using my hacked up nexus one sleeve now and it works great.

I prefer it too, but theres those times where you get bumped on the streets walking while checking your phone (email, text, web) and it causes you to drop your phone.
I also see a lot of people referring to a "platinum case" from best buy... but im looking it over and unsure which one they are talking about bc both use the word platinum.
I like this one alot if only it wasnt purple.

If you carefully apply 4-5 thin coats of PlastiDip you can very easily make your own soft touch battery cover. I'll be posting photos later in another thread.

They wouldn't make a case that would cause you to loose the hardware keyboard.
That's why otterbox hasn't made a defender series case for the shift because it requires you to cover up the whole phone

nice
sure looks like a good value for the money.
i pd almost that much for that piece of film covering my screen and it looks like crapola. $15 for a plastic film lol. (HTC EVO Shift 4G Screen Protector)
It definitely looks like a hinge & latch sort of case that wouldn't allow you to slide the phone open.
I have one that's not bad and its basic rubber like, its back makes it look like the Sensation :thumbdown:lol so any opinions also if there is a great thread on this a link would be good?

Similar here, using S CURVED GEL CASE COVER FOR HTC Incredible S. Looks, feels nice and it doesn't make phone bulky. For screen I went with cheapest Matte Anti Glare protector. Survived a couple of drops (~2m) on tiles and still works like new (so I guess this would rate as Good )
Ive got the S one too, its got good grip, the sides are a bit rough so theres great grip.
It kind of breaks it up on the back too, I think it looks a bit weird without the case
It adds better feedback for the buttons too
I had This, very nice
I have the case mate barely there,I guess it won't protect very much, but it came with my phone when I bought it (used).
For screen protectors I use HTC Original ones bought on ebay.de (about 3eur 2protectors) they are nice.

It funny because I can't use the phone without it, I think it's too thin/slippery maybe because I had the phone with the cover since I bought it...
Otterbox defender.
Next best thing to Nintenium. Not cheap though.
I use the casemate barely there cover and a HTC original screen protector too. Reasonably good protection against scrapes and scratches, no extra bulk but won't protect against a hard knock or a drop I reckon.

I am using an Otterbox Commuter case.. The back is very similar to the device itself, but it adds a little bit of bulk to it.. (not much though). This case protects your phone against pretty much everything except for water (offcourse). I even dropped my phone once of the stairs and you couldn't even see it. Another good thing about this case is the fact it has two layers: rubber and a plastic case around it. The positive thing about this: the rubber also protects the earphone jacket and micro USB-plug against dust etc.. That was one of my main reasons to go with this case.. not the cheapest though, but it is excellent! Also comes with a screenprotecter btw..

I've got the Case-Mate Tough Case and even though it has the little bump pattern on it it's way too slippery... it's not rubbery feeling like it looks in the pictures...
And I've spent the better part of a week reading reviews and searching and can't find a good answer... So what's the best case for GRIP? Preferably it should give decent protection, not be too big (I don't want something like the huge Otterbox or Seidio Active) and have a lip on the front to protect the screen.. other than that I just want it to actually be GRIPPY!!! This phone is huge (it's awesome, but huge) and I really need some grippiness on the back so that I can one-hand it... I've looked at the Aegis, Ballistic, UAG and others but there are mixed reviews as to the actual feel of the outside. I want something that I can lay it in my hand at a slight angle and it won't just slide off... The Case-Mate really checks all the boxes except for the fact that it's just so dang slippery!!
So if you've personally got a case/used one that you find exhibits exceptional "grippability" then toss a dog a bone and hook me up..
Thanks everyone..
(and if you're in the market for a Case-Mate Tough case then I'll make ya a deal....although it's prolly not worth the shipping..lol)
Not sure but I use a Body Glove and its pretty grippy around the sides (not so on the flat back tho). I remember hearing of some adhesive kind of like Flygrip but cheaper kind of like tape/sticker which you could apply to all kinds of different things altho they made some specifically for phones and other devices to give you a better grip .
First off I'll take that case mate if you're in North America definitely not worth the shipping otherwise. Anyway I would assume any tpu case is as grippy as you're going to get but there's a protection trade-off obviously. You could try getting a flygrip or a sling grip. I have the fly on my otterbox/zl setup and it's definitely the best one handed solution I just feel super nerdy using it lol.

PM me if you really want the Case-Mate, I'll prolly keep it until I find something better though, it's slippery but at least it's protected when it falls.. And yeah, I had a Fly Grip, but I made the mistake of selling it with the phone I had at the time, plus I pocket this slab of a phone and I'm not sure I could handle the extra bump on the back...

I don't think anything comes close to a cheap gel rubber case for sheer grippines. There are any number of brands that can be had for 4 bucks shipped and I keep one around for when I want to sit and read manga.
They suck for sliding in and out of a tight pocket though. There is a point of being too grippy.

The kickstand is kind of hard to use but I hardly ever use it. Honestly that wasn't one of the reasons why I decided to buy the case. I had one of these cases on my BlackBerry Bold 9900 before I bought my GN2. I like that my phone feels solid in my hand, it's not too bulky, it's easy to put on/take off and it offers great protection. I already had one drop when my GN2 fell out of my jacket pocket from about three feet to asphalt and the only wrong was my case had a small scough mark. I like the case. This is just my opinion.

Yes, the case has a raised lip around the screen. The lip will keep the screen off a flat surface like a table; it is a significant lip. There are many pictures of this case in the thread where people are showing photos of their cases. Here is a youtube.com video that is pretty good.

Nope, it is very slim in comparison to other cases like it. I was surprised at how good it is for the price
I got this case for .01 cents on Amazon thanks to someone on the forums here. I freakin love this case! I originally bought a case from Best Buy for $34.99.. PSSSHHH.. this blows that out of the water.. price? $2.00 included shipping! Scratches? None. The one at Best Buy was full of them right in the packaging even. It was the only case they had at the time since the M8 was brand new.
Adds a little bulk to the phone, but it's not bad.. it's not a crappy iPhone! Those things look like bricks.
Sadly doesn't seem to be available in UK

"Bumper" cases came in around the time of the iPhone 4 with antennagate. Purely a case which surrounds the edges only. No back.

I was just defining what a bumper style case used to be. Even in later iPhone models where antennagate issues were fixed, Apples Bumper case spawned a whole line of similar style cases for iPhone and other handsets. Companies like Spigen and Draco continued to make bumper cases without rear sections, for design and for edge protection. Latter even made one for the M7 ( http://www.dracodesign.com/draco-one-aluminum-bumper-for-htc-one-m7-black/).
Now it appears a bumper case can mean anything. Bumper to me always suggests "around the edge or extremity". The bumper on a car is at the edges. The bumper in a pinball machine is an edge.
Phones still have antennas dude. They just might not be wrapped around the edges!

He he yup!
I kinda miss not having a "phone of the masses" as the range of cases for iPhone is virtually without limits. Spigen did some really nice true bumper cases made up of two parts one part soft bumper with a harder plastic outer bumper you slipped over the softer one.
Guess it'd be harder to create a bumper for the M8 given its slimmer profile and more rounded off edges. The iPhone was quite squared.

Back when I had my iPhone 4/4s I used to be amazed at how much people spent on their phones protection, it even got to the point where they were buying protection for their cases.
