[Q] No network after successful Root? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok folks,
Forgive me if this is a panic post!
I successfully rooted my note this morning, I was on LA6 firmware, Downgraded and rooted without any problems.
I noticed that I only had "emergency calls only" after the reboot, so went into mobile network settings and managed to get a signal on my network (3uk) although it dropped again when I rebooted again?
Right after the Rooting was done, I backed up my EFS folder as stated is best practice, then backed up the stock rom.
I thought that maybe the old baseband version was giving me the issues (I presume the notes modem is similar to the HTC radio?) so I went ahead and gave Checkrom NoteHD V6 a shot. It all installed fine and as it should but I still have the no network issue. I dont think it corrupted the efs system as I can still use wifi and my IMEI number is still there.
Any ideas for a new note owner?
Edit:
-----------
I did make note that I was on Baseband XXLA4 before rooting or flashing anything, is it safe to go ahead and flash it from the modems thread via CWM? Should this help?
any pointers if doing so?

You may have already tried this but are your APN settings correct?
They may change or get deleted between ROM flashes
Also what modem do you have and baseband in the about phone menu right now?

Wow, that was quick!
My APN settings all seem fine. The preset for three.co.uk were still there and the settings inside seem intact.
Im currently running baseband XXLB2.

Then it should work your modem is not old and your APN is fine
Maybe try putting another SIM or another carrier

As ive put in the edit to the OP, is it safe to try to flash back to the XXLA4 modem? If all else fails that is?

Yes it's safe, I've done it many times

How did you root your note? I am on 3 in the UK with same firmware, have been looking around but not much progress.
Cheers.

First thing first...
- do the hard reset Vol Up + Menu + Power *or* CWM Wipe everything. Reboot...
- Still no go, go and download different radio HERE and flash it

Ok, followed your advice. Hard reset hasnt improved it.
So went ahead and flashed XXLA4 (my original modem) - Nothing,
Just tried the KL1 modem -Nothing! GRRRRR!
Maybe I will try to go back to stock, I was on the LA6 firmware, See if that works.

sorry m8, couldn't help much...
is that phone carrier locked?
i suggest, flash CheckRoom v6 (the most professional stock look-alike rom). If the problem still there, try flash another radio. After that if still no go... try CM9/AOSP ICS

No, no carrier lock, no branding, no nothing!
Just been racking my brains, after refering to a video link posted in the how to root galaxy note thread, I see a chap called cursed4eva created a video using ODDKL1 as the downgrade to root method. Just checked on samfirmware.com and that is Indian firmware, could this cause my network issue?
Im in the process of downloading the lastest Uk firmware now.
If it was the case that this indian firmware was causing the issue, wouldnt flashing checkrom fix it? I didnt seem to for me?
Anyway, rooting around on the samfirmware pages, ive found a directly rootable firmware package (KK3) that was a carphone warehouse UK one.
If I get network back from the latest firmware, im going to downgrade to the above mentioned carphone warehouse package, Root, and try again.
I will post back some results ASAP.

you can flash any rom, but the main problem is the radio. different country got different radio.

[Q] Flashing Bell Galaxy S

Hi guys, not sure if this is the right section. I attempted to flash my Bell Galaxy S with the [ROM] Bionix 1.9 - JI6 OTA Build - Oops I did it again *10/14/10* and basically it installed no problem, but once it did my phone would no longer connect to the network at all. No voice or data connection just sat on searching. I restored from my nandriod backup and to my horror, still no network connection (voice or data), wifi and everything else worked fine. I ended up doing a lot of reading and staying up until 8AM to get everything fixed, felt a little stupid once i knew how-to fix it.
But now to my question, if i want to flash one of the roms, is there any special procedure that i need to follow to not loose my cell network? Any help would be fantastic
LOL... Thats sux's anyways you can't flash that rom. its not for your phone you have a GT-I9000... that rom you have flashed is for the SGH-T959.... You will need to download Odin 1.3 and flash back the whole JH2 firmware to get your radio files back. or download any rom from the i9000 forums and flash it.. but the only way to get 850mhz back is to flash to the stock JH2 firmware. unless you know what your doing and know how to flash just the radio files. you can also try kies with a reg hack to flash different firmwares.. just look around in the i9000 forums..
Go to samsung-firmwares.com and download the JH2 firmware then flash it back. Tmobile Vibrant is different from the i9000x line of phones.
I think you guys misunderstood, I have fixed it already using ODIN. I was just wondering what was flashable without breaking my radio.

[Q] Urgent help needed - No service after firmware update

Hi guys,
Yesterday i tried to install version 2.3.3 from samfirmware on my Galaxy S (Stock 2.2.1), but came to realize that some features was not in my language (Danish).
I wanted to go back to my stock firmware, but i've tried different guides to bring it back to stock with 2.1 and then upgrade it through KIES to 2.2.1.
But none of the guides I found worked for me as KIES kept saying that "This device's version can not be updated". So ultimately I went back to the 2.3.3, but now I have no service at all.
I have no idea what to do anymore and I hope someone here can help me out.
Did you check your apn settings? If you don't gave an apn set up then you won't get data. Search for the settings of your carrier.
Sent from my Iphone killing I9000
I can only find settings for internet and mms for APN... There are no settings for getting a signal.
If it is telling you that it can't be updated, it means either the PDA, CSC or Modem are not what it considers stock for you.
You can use one of the many Kies spoof methods found here at XDA, or just forget about Kies and cook a new 2.2.1 ROM in Doc's Kitchen, making sure to load in a Danish CSC.
Your connectivity problems are likely due to an incorrect CSC or as Joel suggested, your APN settings being wrong/missing. Hopefully flashing a proper CSC would fix that.
If the problem persists you could check to make sure your bandwidth options are correct, using the secret code found in SGS Tools to change them.

Ok maybe start with your SIM card. If you have another device to check it in. Don't laugh but I once put it in backwords and had a hell of a time finding my problem, because nothing looked wrong until I took it out again.

What was your stock build? You may be able to install it as a deodexed ROM from Ramad using Odin.
As for an easy way, sadly there is no "Make all the bad things go away" option in CWM yet. Maybe next version.

I've tried different things now (getting another stock firmware), tried the simcard in another phone without problems.

If you don't know what the stock firmware was I would drop any further attempt to return to it and just move forward.
Go look at the ROM Kitchen thread and follow the very clear instructions there for creating and flashing a 2.2.1 ROM with the right CSC.

Thank you. My only problem is the small installation guide that is posted there does not work for me. In recovery mode I haven't got the option to install the docrom - all i can do is choose Apply sdcard:update.zip and then theres 2 different kinds of whipe and that is it.
Look you might be best off just using Odin to flash a stock JPO with a multi CSC rather than using the ROM kitchen. The link below is a really good tutorial that will show you how to do it and set your CSC
http://samsunggalaxysforums.com/showthread.php/2921-How-to-use-Odin-to-upgrade-to-Froyo-from-Eclair
Sorry its not an xda tutorial but its really noob friendly -its how I made my first firmware flash from eclair

Well the Kitchen Rom didn't work when i finally got it installed.
I went back to samfirmware.com and found the correct stock firmware i had before. After i installed it KIES also tells me i have the latest version.
However I still have no signal. I have the correct Internet and MMS settings in the APN and when i pull down the top menu thingy it says "(No signal) M1" (M1 is my provider), so it seems to recognize the simcard correctly?

[Q] [i9000] restoring to Stock - but which ROM?

Hi All,
I have a Galaxy S I9000 that I purchased from Optus (Australia) that I have been flashing with different ROMs quite happily. Unfortunately in my excitement I did not take note of the original versions.
I had a nightly build of CM7 on it but now that Samsung Australia have released Gingerbread I wanted to do a stock upgrade (with Kies) to try it out.
So I reverted to a stock 2.2 I got from the ezRom guide (can't post the link)
BUT, kies says that it is not updateable.
So then I tried to revert to a ROM that is supposedly an Optus one. I have flashed it to (According to KIES):
PDA:JP5 / PHONE:JP3 / CSC:JP4 (NEE)
Or from the phone:
PDA: I9000DTJP5
PHONE: I9000DTJP3
CSC: I9000XSAJP4
Build info: 2010.11
But Kies still says "This version of the device cannot be updated."
Is it because of the CWM bootloader (v2.3?)?
Any suggestions / ideas?
Many thanks in advance
Have you tried using ODIN for flashing?

Good suggestion, and it flashed OK and works OK, but, KIES still says it cannot be updated.
Should I flash the bootloader? It is CWM.
I wonder if KIES looks for the bootloader.
Kies is a huge pile of dung. Why bother messing with the bootloader when you've already flashed what you wanted?

Several Reasons:
1) I want to see what Samsung's "Official" version of Gingerbread is like.
2) CM7 bluetooth pairing is broken. I am totally over having to go through the pairing process every damn time I get in my car.
3) I have to go back at least to 2.2 at some point as I have lost access to my External Flash card.

You should be able to grab the stock fimware from samfirmware.com and flash it with odin, no?
Hi,
I have successfully just done what you are trying to accomplish. I don't have the links to these files anymore but if you can't find them I'd be happy to make them available for you.
Firstly flash GT-I9000_FROYO_FULL_PDA.tar as it has a boot loader.
Secondly flash GT_I9000_DTJP5_DTJP3_XSAJP4 which is the original stock.
this looks like the link for the froyo full PDA tar: http://www.multiupload.com/3FFWC68UMC
so does this work? I want to get back to stock Optus and similarly didn't take note of any original versions or do any nandroid backups. idiot!

Don't do it!!!!!! It does not work very well with Flash, makes it jerky. I am trying to downgrade back to Gingerbread. Flash worked well before upgrade to ICS. I wish I hadn't 'upgraded'.

don't do what?
i installed the german update with no problems it is not jerky.
iam in the uk and on vodafone
I updated my UK stock 4.0.3. to German 4.0.4 XXLRG and can confirm the wakelog problem has gone away.
I tried the German version 4.0.4 and found that a lot of apps that I'd installed on 4.0.3 stopped working ??
So I have gone back to the UK XEU 4.0.3 from Sammobile and await the UK version update to 4.0.4
What is the 'wakelog' problem with 4.0.3 ICS ?
The only problem I have experienced with 4.0.3 is the SIM card has difficulty registering on the network, I keep having to go to scan for networks to register and resetting / taking the battery out etc - pain in the back side!!
I'm wondering if I have any apps installed that can block outgoing phone calls without me knowing about it?
Like a firewall or something?
On the '3' network by the way !! :cyclops:
Try safe kernel, reboot recovery and clean, usually helps. It might need more cleaning on safe kernel. I prefer full clean install to prevent these issues.
Try dalvik and cache first, on safe kernel like speedmod. K3-11 is reported pretty wel from hardcore.
Sometimes fixing permissions alone helps from recovery on a kernel like speedmod.

I've changed 'csc' file on the phone to XEU still on 4.0.3 - N7000XXLQ2_N7000XXLPT_N7000XEULP4
So started fresh again anyway - CWM recovery mode and wiped all user data settings and initially:
NOW UNROOTED
Checked that wifi picked up signal and worked ok
Checked that data connection picked up signal and worked ok
Checked phone was registered on network and seemed to be ok
NOW ROOTED
Now I'm going to install just the app DATA from the CWM backup image I took before I changed the CSC from Eur (this came from the Multi csc from the German 4.0.4 rom) to Xeu (this came from the UK/IRE 4.0.3 rom) - Sammobile website
If any of the prior checks I made listed above don't work, then the problem has to lie with the app data, as I haven't used the image cache, kernel etc - ONLY the app data.
Now on a slightly other note if I took the German ICS 4.0.4 N7000XXLRG_N7000DBTLRG_DBT - rom image and removed the MULTI csc cache file and replaced with the XEU from the 4.0.3 image - would that work?
Trick the phone into thinking it has a UK 4.0.4 rom installed?
Thanks for the replies :good::good:
NOW ROOTED - using CF-Root - SGN_XX_XEU_LQ2 - v5.6
APPS ADDED FROM PREVIOUS CWM 4.0.3 BACKUP IMAGE
YellowTriangle Away V 1.70 used to clear counts etc
Checked that wifi picked up signal and doesn't connect
Checked that data connection picked up signal and works ok occasionally
Checked phone was registered on network and seems hit and miss - registered one minute then not the next - unable to make calls - have to keep searching for networks manually - turning phone on / off / battery in / out !
Installed the 'Speedmod K3 - 11' as suggested earlier.
However now when I open CWM manager app, I get the message "This version of CWM manager should be used with CF-Root v5.0 or newer. It appears you are running a different kernel.Various features have been disabled"
Something not right somewhere...
got it

Problem restoring IMEI

I'm now starting to bang my head against the wall. I ave just bought an Orange locked I9305 which I only wanted to unlock to use on another network. Unfortunately I couldn't unlock it as it came with 4.1.2. I read that I had to downgrade to 4.1.1 which is where the problems started. I followed the instructions at the start of this post and made a backup of my IMEI / NV Data which went well. I then installed Odin and tried to install
Product Code: GT-I9305TADEVR (4.1.1) (EE UK)
PDA: XXALI5
PHONE: BVALI5
CSC: EVRALI5
Released: 17/09/2012
from the Pre-Rooted / Original Stock Odin Packages! thread.
I thought this had gone well but it got stuck rebooting at the Samsung screen after the start up swirling screen for at least an hour. I then tried to install the
Product Code: GT-I9305TADEVR (4.1.1) (EE UK)
PDA: XXALK3
PHONE: XXALK2
CSC: EVRALI5
This also got stuck and after another hour I tried to install a stock rom from http://samsung-updates.com/ which was I9305XXALI5_I9305EVRALI5_I9305BVALI5_HOME.tar.md5
This worked and it installed 4.1.1 but when I went to unlock the phone it didn't have any of the menus and when I checked the IMEI it said null / null.
I then though that this isn't too bad as I can just restore the IMEI but when I tried to connect through QPST it sees the port (Com3) but cannot see the phone so I cannot do the restore.
I have tried re-installing QPST after deleting anything in the registry that mentions it, I have re-installed the samsung drivers, I have flashed Param_Bin_I9305.tar.md5 with odin, have rooted properly as there was no superuser app with both busybox and I9305 clockwork mod. These worked ok as I was able to install triangle away and use it and have supersu in my apps.
Does anyone have a clue as to what I can try next as thinking of going back to HTC as I have had there phones since windows and never had a problem rooting and unlocking them
Just a thought I have looked at the box and it says the phone is I9305 PM will this make a difference

After the initial downgrade all you had to do was reset to factory settings to make it boot again (recovery mode). I would suggest installing the ROM that came with the phone to see if it magically springs back to life.
Restoring back ime
I had the same problem yesterday, but luckily for me i restore back my IME by flashing the paraffin with odin. But the rom on it as at the time when i lost my IME was warmalite. Try the warmalite and then the paraffin this might help.
Thanks guys,
I finally sorted it as it must be a problem with the Pre-Rooted / Original Stock Odin Packages. I finally got it to work by flashing a different kernel, I then unlocked the phone to any network and flashed a 4.1.2 Pre-Rooted / Original Stock Odin Package where it lost all its IMEI again. Flashed a new kernel and all working as I wanted it too as it's now unlocked on 4.1.2.

Is this new kernel you are flashing the Perseus kernel by any chance?

Yes that's the one I used why does it make a difference?

The difference is, if I am correct, you are no longer able to use any other kernel. Stock kernels, as well as CyanogenMod or other AOSP-based kernels will no longer properly set up your modem for you, you will need to always run Samsung-based ROMs with a Perseus kernel.
The same is happening with my device, and I have seen a few others as well.

Oh well at least the phone is working now where as before I couldn't even restore my IMEI, Just got to hope the phone doesn't break then as I don't think I would be able to send it back with that kernel

Right! It happens with my device as well.
I recently tried Adam Kernel which you can download using the Update Me App in Ripper ROM and it worked, my phone worked. So right now you can either use Perseus Kernel which is really good or use Adam Kernel which is far close to the stock one. That kernel isn't in a thread, you have to install Ripper ROM and then download it through the Update Me App if you want to use it.
I just wanted to point that out
