for ics, what's the best rom (stating advantages and disadvantages)
CM9 vs Slim
nowadays, and with future releases.
Are you asking about the best ICS ROM or you are just interested in CM9 and SLIM?

CM9 is being developed by an army. I found it to be the smoothest and the easiest to use out of the box so to speak. Slim has some nice customizations, but I found out a couple things that don't work and even some apps that are not compatible with it.

I think he's just narrowed it down to the 2, from what I can tell anyways.

i was asking just between those two.
i've tried both, and the conclusion is that i prefer the CM9

I forgot what custom ROM I'm on right now but it gives me some problems so I'm gonna use Heimdall One-Click -Total Stock and then flash something but I want a really nice one this time. Any suggestions? Also, could you link me to the thread with instructions and everything. Thanks
All I can say is every ROM has its benefits. It all depends on what your looking for and how you use your phone. Your best option is to check the development section and do some reading and research to see witch one will suit your needs. There are plenty of excellent devs with great ROM's. I will however recommend anything by The Collective who has top notch devs themers and support, with a native I897 ROM an I9000 ROM and an ICS ROM.

ICS= Ice cream sandwich which is the latest Android flavor. By far their most polished and integrated firmware in my opinion. All of the roms running it are still beta but they are pretty stable already.
I for one vote for teamhacksungs ICS. The current version is build 16. Very stable, fast and pretty. I've never had great battery life but it is above average for me on this ROM. Oh, and the GPS actually works.
Try an ICS build, if you don't like it, roll back to one of the gingerbread builds, there are plenty to choose from.

Yeah I see a bunch of people seem to like that specific ROM. How would you recommend I do this? I don't recall what ROM I'm on now, I just know that it's 2.3. Should I use that Heimdall One-Click -Total Stock first?

Thebest ROM is the one that you find works well for you. No one can give you the 'best ROM'. Flash a few and decide for yourself.
Hi
I know there is no official ICS ROM but i know that people have ported it off other devises so it works on the s+,
I was wondering...
A) is it worth it e.g. are they stable and fast
And B) which is the best, again most stable and fast.
Thanks
As far as I know there are only two stable ics roms - arco's cyanogenmod 9 port and miui v4 which i havent tried, but its based on cm9, so they should have the same bugs. I'm currently using cm9, and its ok for everyday use.
Here are the links:

Thanks all!
but i was on a s3, and i was wondering is there a port of that because that is slick and has s-talk!!
thanks
P.S. by the looks of it cmod looks the best but was is up with the camera??
Someone must know of an ICS i9000 ROM that supports wifi tethering?!
Update
I have tried a lot of Custom ROMS. I found CM9 Acro the best. Now even Camera is working fine (Front, Back and Video recording @ lower resolution).
MUIU v4 is good, similar to IOS. Lot of bugs. (best part they are reducing everyday).
Paranoid Andriod Ecsatcy is a Tablet like Rom. Can try for a completely different feel.
RemICS is also good with Apex launcher. Need some small fixes though.
Ehndroix is again a good one. Lot of fixes. Can also try it.
Now a days there is lot of work going on so i am happy to see even work progressing on Jelly Bean as well.
hope this helps. Cheers.
I would say the cm9 by arco is the best i've tested.

The best ICS Rom?
In my opinion cyanogenmod 9 is the best ICS Rom and there is a offical "stable" version! I tried the nightly builts for 3 months and had no problems.
Now I'm on cm10 and im missing the stability of cm9.
I'd like to upgrade CM7 to ICS and looking for a fast stable ROM with multilingual support.
My goal is to avoid overloading the hardware.
Which ROM should I try ?

Dude, fyi, this is the Captivate forum, not SGS2. That is an SGS2 ROM and kernel if my search results aren't mistaken.
To the op, if you like CM7 a lot, then the clear choice for ICS will be CM9. Everything you love about CM7 (eventually) but with ICS. I don't know how anything would overload the hardware.

What I mean by overloading the hardware is the sluggish response you sometime experience when the software is trying to do too much and it takes seconds to accomplish what you want.
How is the AOKP based ROM performing with the Captivate ? I like the app quick access from the Lock Screen.

No matter where you go, you will always experience some lag. Upgrading to ICS doesn't mean your phone is magically going to grow a second core and double the RAM. But generally aosp does a good job of avoiding a lot of it.
I personally don't prefer AOKP, but it has a strong team and a wide following and you will probably enjoy it, and I'm sure it performs great. Most ICS ROMs nowadays will include the lockscreen shortcuts though.

Hello
I am trying to flash an stable ICS rom for my brothers phone but I really can't find anyone without major bugs. CM9 = to much bugs, Nyx RC 5.0 is just pure ****, Slim ICS (what the **** is wrong with the font?) So can someone recommend me a nice and clean ICS rom that is stable enough for daily use?
I just installed CM9 today and it works pretty good despite the camera and the radio (and now there are alternatives to avoid those bugs too).

CM9 is sluggish as hell so I wouldn't recommend that either. However I don't really understand your font issue with Slim ICS. It does only have 5 system languages but you can install additional fonts to display languages via the "Updater" app included.
In your case as you've eliminated Slim ICS, I guess ICS333 (Team 3xtr3m3) is probably the best one out there. AOSP based with toggles from AOKP and offers a good balance between performance and battery life, with no bugs I can really tell.
Team-Nyx (RC5) yet the most stable rom for me on ics and its pure AOSP

Actually I find cm9 to be the fastest. I've gotten the highest benchmarks compared to slim ics, aokp, etc. Plus I have a bit more trust on cyanogenmod than aokp. Team nyx is pure ics stock but its really slow. Cm9 all the way for me always.

Hi !
Unfortunately, though ICS is extremely good the Custom ICS has it's quirks !
This is because they are developed without source codes from Samsung and no matter how good they are, at a certain point they show their lack of support which they never received from the manufacturer in the first place and therefore after a few days ( or if lucky, weeks) things don't work properly and needs reboots frequently.
Having ICS is like having a short love affair.
Use Gingerbread or change phones.
Sad fact, but true.
Look at the custom ICS camera and look at the original ICS camera. Do you think that we are going to get all the goodies in the SGS ?
Similarly, there are many great features of ICS which the developers cannot give us.
Time to move on.
Take care.

Stable ROM
Hello the most stable ROM was RC4.2 with semaphore 1.1.1
Now I am on RC5 from Team Nyx. It's stable. The only thing that doesn't work is YouTube. Flashing another kernel from Devil (2_0.94) will help.

Hi.
Can you please stop posting these opinions as facts, when the "problems" can easily be fixed. This is a development forum, at least it used to be, and you cannot expect everything to work right out of the box like official stock firmware (even though it does most of the time). It's not like you've been scammed by a car salesman selling you a car without an engine.
No offense intended, but please stop it.

U r correct . In fact, perhaps I might go back to ICS again cause in reality, Gingerbread is not user friendly....there I go again...

i have tried almost all of ics roms but always got back to Elite roms for the stability, smoothnes and battery life
Rom: Elite RC v1.3
Kernel: midnight 202L
Launcher: Apex Launcher with sense4.0 dock
Theme:Sense 4.0 for EliteRom
I can highly recommend ICS333 2.0.1 with Semaphore kernel. Perfectly stable, not one reboot so far. It's fast, simple and works well in every way.
It's all just opinions, try them out

Everybody has his own taste, some people like AOSP, some people like AOKP, some people like CM9 while some people like slim ROM regardless with few bugs ... also there are people here in this forum (like you) who install ROMs incorrectly n find it **** (yes i am pointing to Team Nyx's ROM). When you have tried some of the ROMs, why don't you try all of the ROMs?
p.s. Team Nyx's AOSP is the only ICS ROM I found stable and less battery consuming after slim, this is only my point of view.

I have tried CM9, Stunner, LiquidSmooth, and Paranoid roms. I found these roms to be comparable in performance and battery life. I am using Liquid rom but I might switch to Paronoid rom when next version comes out. You should try them out and find out for yourself.
both are excellent ROMs but I voted AOKP.. By no means am i saying that AOKP is better..
I prefer the ultimate android experience and i feel i get that from AOKP ROMs. I used to constantly switch between CM and AOKP because I loved them both.

You got trolled.
So that's why you vote for CM9 ??
I've just gotta say AOKP has been working faster than CM9, and so far is better thanks to the customizations. When the proper sources are released from Miui v4 and ParanoidAndroid... then the crown to surpremacy will be up for grabs again.
I think ICS >> JellyBean for a minimum of 6 months, you'd be stupid to upgrade without the incentive.
