I just bought a ps3 and im wondering what all I can do with it from my android. Whoops. Saw a midget stripper and accidentally posted. Anyways, ps3 doesnt reconize captivate. Do I need to download drivers for ps3 will that work? Did a forum search for ps3 came up empty so if you can point me in the right direction or shed some light id really appreciate it.

For a system to recognize the Captivate, or pretty much any Android phone, it needs compatible drivers installed. I don't believe there are Captivate drivers for a PS3.
I figured that much. Thanks man.

I just hooked my captivate up to my ps3 and it recognized it even transferred music and photos to it. I plugged it in and mounted the phone and ps3 saw it. Funny I was curious too and was shocked it worked

mine has always worked, you just need to connect it as a mass storage device
the ps3 doesn't need drivers for any (probably most) usb mass storage devices. it probably doesnt even need drivers for most other usb input devices.
Oh ok. I guess it's a problem with the phone, because when I hook it up the usb connected notice doesn't pop up and I can't mount the phone. Guess I'll have to troubleshoot it.

Go to settings, applications, USB settings I have mine set to ask on connection, USB debugging is on too. Don't know if that has anything to do with it, hope that helps.

Wow, good to know. I happily stand corrected.
Just had my phone sent to the LG service center last week because it bootloops everytime it is removed from usb port. Started awhile back with random restarts then suddenly phone turns off everytime someone calls and finally only usable if connected to usb.
had it repaired and the service center replaced the motherboard + battery. They told me it was a result of either flactuating or overcharging, but I havent one of those. Could it be because of my different usb cord? I use a nokia mini usb cord because the original LG cord got lost.
Now i'm afraid to use it until I buy a new usb cord.

Im using the one that came with my optimus and I have the same issues. Its rated 150W ( Speaking from memory ) but when charging it through Computer USB ( 75W ) its fine.
As your battery doesn't get to hot I can't see how it can affect your phone. I'm not a a guru on this so I might be wrong.

I have the same issues too! When I charge my OB the touch goes crazy :| and when I try to write a SMS for example, it writes letters by itself for a couple of minutes. Why it is happening this? Why is the phone acting weird? :|
I am using the stock charger that came in the box with it and the cable is the original one.

You're sooo rich, XD
Anywaays, i figured it won't happen again so i bought a new usb cord, Hytac USB 2.0 to be exact... i'm not sure if it really works, but so far so good. It says in the box that it supports data transfer AND charge soooo. it's okay then?
The head office of LG also told the service center said that it could have been the result of charging while the phone has a case on (i usually had a rubberized case on it)

When you plug your phone to the computer through usb it charges slower than if plugged to the wall because to put it simple part of the cable is used for data exchange between computer and phone. some custome kernels have the feature to turn off the communication between computer and phone to let you charge through usb at full speed. of course you cannot "see" your phone from the computer as long as fastcharge is on. hope what i've written is understandable i apologise for my english

The fastcharge should be there between sync & bln

I heard that our chipset support USB OTG. is there a way to use OTG on our p990.
thanks in advance

No not posible. Saw it some where.
The usb port doesnt suport it. Or something about that you need to change some internals in the phone but it will stop usb massa storage. And tou need to activate usb otg and them some one need to make a kernel..
Do some recherche.
Dont have link. But you will find it in optimus 2x thread general or Q&A dont remeber.
what about new kernel source, can it be equip with OTG?
Sent from my LG-P990 using xda app-developers app
Maybe yes, but we still needs external power supply.
Is searching really that hard?

Has anybody tried using USB otg with 2.5" self powered hard drive?
I tried my 1tb western digital passport and it doesn't even power.
Flash drives work fine. Using stock kernel BTW.

Could u check? I checked on n7 forum, some worked for them

I am not an expert on the subject but maybe its the lack of power. Try a powered usb hub or something if possible. Again I am no expert but usb 3.0 compatible devices usually make use of the extra power allotment to be "self powering" unlike in usb 2.0. So I am guessing it is a power issue.

keep in mind that must be partitioned as FAT in order to see the content of the drive via OTG. i don't think NTFS is supported. i hear there are custom modded kernels for samsung phones that support NTFS but that's not the case with regular kernels

I've got a 2.5" ToughDrive and the OTG cable I have won't supply enough juice to power that.
The cable works fine with USB pen drives but that's it.
I haven't found an OTG cable that had a power input to support more power-hungry drives.
