[Q] Very bad SGS - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all experts.
I have an SGS with a problem.
It FC a lot of programs (maps, market, swype etc.) and it wont delete apps.
Tried flash 127 times at least but no luck.
Tried 2.2.1, 2.3.3, 2.3.6 no go.
Can´t write to int.sd so all have do be done trough Odin.
Formated all I could with speedmod, but a lot of the old crap just wont go away!
It´s sems there is an area in the mem that I can´t acces even if I´m root.
Any help? Or is it off to the store for a new phone.
Tex

The only thing that I can suggest is to do a full factory reset, reflash with the correct official firmware for your region, then factory reset again.
Even if you decide to return your phone you will need to restore it to your current official firmware.

Been there, done that No go
No warrinty left, so it´s a new phone.

Have you formatted your internal sd card?
Also perhaps flash through Odin using a stock rom & pit 512 & repartition checked

Sad to say: Been there, done that, no go
When connected to PC, I can se the files in explorer (phone and PC)
But if I try to put a file from PC to the phone, the next time I check the explorer on the phone, it says no int. SD card.

last thing to try would be to format internal sd from your pc.
try copying everything on it onto your pc first & then format.
otherwise hopefully someone else has some help for you.

*2767*3855# try this formatting method also via dialer...

Sad to say again: Been there, done that, no go
It says its formating and wiping, but after reboot it´s the same
So I guess it´s goodbuy SGS and hello SGS 2 (maybe)
Thanks for all answers and help.

it's likely that the internal SD-card got corrupted.

Just flash a stock rom from ODIN not cwm or use one of @ramad rom's (only to be flashed in PDA) or darky's rom or ezbase from insanity thread.

[Q] Internal SD Dead. is there a way to convince i9000 to use the external SD instead

Hello,
firstly, i am very sory for posting this two times as i already posted this in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=882822&page=4
Please do not flame me.. i'm only doing this because i'm getting desparate, and maybe it could, to some extent, help some of you to at least make your phone usable as a dumbphone.
I have a problem with my internal SD.. it's very complicated how it came to all this so i'm going to give you a short version..
I've had the phone for over a month now using darkys roms (with voodoo enabled) and then my cat peed on the phone which resulted in me opening it up and cleaning it with alcohol as it went into a restart loop. the phone then booted into recovery but i couldn't mount the sd card.. i then used the JPU 2.2.1 firmware and instaled it with odin. and it worked.. i could access everithyng normaly, but then:
I tryed to do a wipe version of darkys 8.0 and the phone froze when installing.. afterwards i tried to install a stock 2.2.1 JPU firmware and it kept restarting, then i tried the 2.1 again and after the boot animation it booted into a black screen with buttons working (LED).. after some research i installed 2.2.1 again and used speedMod 256 Hz with odin.. now it boots normaly to the system but the internal sd can't be mounted any way so i cant install any apps or use the camera, etc.. it's strange, cause i can't even mount the external SD not in the system and not in recovery (clockwork or e3) (it seems the ext SD is recognised only as a subfolder of the internal SD.. it sucks) so i can't format it.. i still have some hope because the phone boots every time i flash speedmod over 2.2.1 firmware and works as "normal", even if i restart (except some settings not being saved like my google account info..
I guess i hope there is some way to make the phone recognize the external SD card as it's default with some custom kernel, that is why i posted in this thread..
My phone is Europe I9000 non carrier version..
If someone can help me i will be extreemely grateful!
Thanks
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=845708
if you have missed the post .
I tryed to do a wipe version of darkys 8.0
I would try a install of stock Eclair and nothing else first .

[Q] Can't mount /dev/block/st19

My problem is really complicated. Things first: My phone didn't work for the last 3 months properly. I mean it booted and everything worked, but I could only update 3-6 apps and then I had a kind of lock (apps downloading, but no more installing). The solution for that was to go to CWM recovery and to clean cache, fix permissions and reboot. Now I could update the next apps until it locked again. Today I was really upset with that and tried some different things. I can go to download mode and CWM recovery (2.5.1.3) is still there but phone doesn't boot anymore. I can flash other firmwares with heimdall (using only linux) without errors, but the phone doesn't boot (stuck before the big S should come). If I go on CWM mount and storage I can't mount /system and /data, think thats my biggest problem right now. Is there any possibility to delete the whole SD card? I mean everything? Already tried flashing XWJS5 with repartition ticked, but it doesn't change anything. Tried now also to flash an old 2.1 firmware, no difference. Any idea how I can fix that problem (adb recognize the device)? Can't go to samsung centre because CWM is the recovery and they will know I rooted the phone...
Comprehension: Can flash other firmware with heimdall without errors, but the phone won't boot further then Galaxy S GT-I9000. The big S logo doesn't appear. In recovery can't mount /system and /sdcard
I tried already so many things, so I'm very happy for any advice!
Try flashing an older stock rom like jpy or js3 or your official rom, with repartition. As far as i know js5 rom is not a full package as jpy or js3 which also have the bootloaders. Those roms should also restore default recovery.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
Reflash FULL firmware
*EDIT- rechecked the error code*
I'm pretty sure "can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0" error = Bad SD Card
try to flash it back to stock so you get the I9000M splash and bring it back for service.
you can try, just make sure it's stock firmware:
flash a full firmware (pda/csc/phone/pit w/repartion), it might recognize the drive after re-boot.
good luck
flashed to JS3. updating now. Gonna see if it works again or if the installation bug is still there... Thanks for helping lilraindon
EDIT: Back on darky again. Problem is that my error still exist. Sometimes you can't update or install any new apps, needs to go to recovery and to wipe cache and fix permissions... Pretty annoying. Bought the phone in Germany and I'm now in Vienna Austria for studies. Do I need the warranty and bill (both in germany) or will they take it to repair without any of them? Can I sell this phone on ebay and buy from the money a Nexus S2?........ last one just kidding, just pretty annoyed my sd card is somehow broken. Any possibility (like an sgs tools script) to wipe cache, fix permissions and mount /data with phone on? With that I could live...

[Q] Challenging technical issue

I have a problem and i would be very thankful if anyone could help me solve it:
I looked around the guides here and on youtube and found out that installing a custom rom is much better than sticking with the original gingerbread, so that's what i did. I tried RocketRom for a while and decided that i want to try checkrom to see which is better. So i downloaded the rom, performed all the wipes (cache, dalvik and battery stats) and reset the phone to factory. However due to my immense stupidity i forgot to put the rom on the internal phone memory and i saved it on my microsd card instead. so now i'm stuck: I can't access my internal phone memory because my phone won't start (either bootloops or it shows the boot animation once and then a black screen with nothing on it). And i wasn't able to use CWM to flash the rom using my microsd card because it keeps giving me the error "unable to mount". I looked around again and read that i should format the microsd card but nothing changed and i kept getting the same error.
So this is basically it. Is there a way to access the internal phone memory with my phone turned off? If not, what should i do? I just need to paste the damn rom but i couldn't figure out what to do :S
Any suggestions will be very very appreciated, and thank you for your cooperation

Seems like you have issues with CWM as I can access the external sd card without problems..
I think that your only solution is to:
-flash a pre-rooted GB ROM from THIS thread
- Use Chainfire's corresponding kernel to the ROM you flashed so you can get CWM recovery, get it from HERE
- after having both rooted ROM and the CWM recovery transfer the ROM you want to the sd card and flash it from CWM Recovery
Hope this helps
thanks
Thank you for the prompt reply, but i am still quite confused: how can i flash a rom if my phone does it boot? how will i get the rom to the phone memory? Remember the microsd card isn't working so i can't use it for flashing.

Are you able to boot in recovery? (3 buttons combo)
From there, you can try to clear cache/dalvik and reboot (booting will take a while).
Another option would be to try to mount the your SD through recovery, backup your files, get in download mode, flash KK4 with Odin one click, flash corn kernel with Odin 1.85 and finaly, get back on Slimbean as per their instructions.

i can boot in recovery, clear cache/dalvik but can not factory reset it because internal storage is not available. I have a ROM file in internal SD but I can't access to it. Is there a ROM with a extension that can be flash through Odin?
The phone work well in 2.3.5, just cant detect both storage, and if i put out the SD card, it will boot loop.

So you flashed KK4 already? If not, you should.
As for flashing a ROM with Odin, you'd need it to be packaged for it (or made into a one click). Before flashing a new custom ROM, you'll need to fix your SD card problem.
If you're able to connect your SD card to your pc, backup it's files, format it and try it again.

This is my friend's phone, so i dont know it had EU screen or not. I flash KK4 but it is bootloop, i try KF1, KJ2, bootloop. Yesterday KF1 work but today it doesnt, Only JF6 working now. Its still not detect internal memory, and i must put a external SD card in to make it work.
IF i see EU screen then my internal SD gone ? I use captivate too, so im very worry now.
Thanks for helping me
i dont want to use SD anymore so i think it is not necessary to format or backup it. Captivate can work well without a SD card.

Well first step would be to ask your friend if he got the EU screen. If so, follow the guide to recover from it.
You will need the bootloaders version of KK4 now as JF6 flashes old bootloaders. If Odin doesn't work, you can try Heimdall (know that Odin won't work on the same USB port as Heimdall, due to Heimdall flashing it's own drivers to that USB port).
I'm not sure what you mean by having to put the external SD card to make it work, do you mean that the internal SD works when the external is in? If so, copy it's content to your pc or external SD while you still can as you might need to completely wipe it.

I ask him, he said that he saw a black screen, he press power button but it did't work, then he put out battery then the phone was stucked in semaphore screen. When he give me his phone, I try to restock it using odin and JF6 . Thats all.
I mean that if external SD is put in, then phone then boot successful, if not it will bootloop. When using phone, it say both internal and external is unavailable, if i put out external SD the phone turn off immediately.

That sounds worse than the EU bug.. But I would still try their fix so follow their guide. Hopefully it helps, one thing though, EU is a ICS bug and you were on JB so there's something missing here.. Was there any changes or mod made before the black screen? Tried to install something perhaps?
As for JF6, it should never be flashed anymore as it flashes the old bootloaders. KK4 is what you need (GB 2.3.5) and since you flashed JF6, you'll need to reflash the GB bootloaders, so Odin KK4 with bootloaders.
So here are your next steps:
1- Find out what exactly happened before the black screen
2- Try to flash Odin KK4 (with BLs)
3- If it doesn't work, try with Heimdall KK4 with bootloaders (Use it on a different USB port)
4- If all of the above don't work, follow the EU bug guide
Thanks alot for your help, i will try tomorow, then i will report.

[q] galaxy note froze during a jelly bean upgrade. Internal memory corrupt. Bricked?

hey guys
my sister was attempting to flash a jelly bean rom on her galaxy note which was running a stock ICS rom at the time and it froze during the process it froze.
it now shows a yellow triangle and refuses to boot.
i attempted booting into recovery and flashing a new rom.
i tried to do a full wipe first, but the phone freezes. i booted into recovery mode again and cleared the cache. however when i tried to wipe the davlik cache, i got an error message but it proceeded anyway.
when i try to go ahead and flash the new rom it fails.
i suspect the internal memory is corrupt. what should I do?

You might be able to repartition the device with Odin, you will have to wait for a more experienced member of XDA though, I don't know all the steps to repartition the device andI wouldn't like to get your Note in worse condition. But even after repartitioning you will only be able to run slim ROM's - such as slim bean.

Thanks for the help. I'll try repartitioning. I don't know how so I'll google it. But even stock roms wouldn't run? and what's a slim rom?
Basically a very lightweight ROM. Slim Bean is only about 95MB + 25MB for the google apps which you have to flash too.
Here is a link to the ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2060391
You might also be able to run slim versions of TouchWiz (that is the what you get from Samsung). SlimWizz is about 187MB but that will probably be too much.
That may be a softbrick "only". Are you able to get into Download mode? (Volume Down + Home + Power button) If so, you'll be able to flash an official ROM with PC Odin.
Out of curiosity, what procedure did you follow to flash your Jelly Bean ROM? Directly from the stock ICS recovery?

sorry for the late reply. i do not know how my sister tried to flash the jelly bean rom. there have been some interesting developments. i obtained a kernel which has enabled me to boot into recovery mode. the problem now is that the note recognises my internal sd as an external sd and vice versa! any help?

I guess you have flashed the Speedmod kernel/recovery. Then internal (emmc) and external (micro SDcard) are swapped (that's "normal"). So formatting emmc will format the external SD card and formatting external sd-card will format the internal storage. You just need to be aware of this (if you fear you might lose your data in your SD card, simply remove it from the phone before wiping).
Do a full wipe and then follow the procedure detailed in the thread of the ROM you want to flash. Or if you don't know what to do, just get into Download mode as I explained above and flash an official TouchWiz ROM through Odin PC (you can check Dr Ketan's thread here: everything is nicely detailed. Don't forget to hit the Thanks button on his first post as he's really helpful with people).

That sucks. It seems you've been a victim of the emmc_CAP_ERASE bug. It's a shame you don't remember how you came to this. Anyway, one of the best solutions in this situation is to send your Note to the service center. The problem here is you have that yellow triangle which will void your warranty (if you still have one). Unless someone has a better idea, I think you have 3 possibilities:
1) Use the PIT file method. That will partition your internal storage card. Don't hesitate to ask questions in the thread if you need. You'll find people to help you.
2) Use a JIG USB key to remove the triangle before sending your device to the service center for repair. You'll find one for a few euros on eBay.
3) Try the JTAG.
To be honest, I haven't tried any of these methods as I've always been careful when flashing stuff. Good luck!

HOWEVER, the phone freezes randomly and sometimes would even be unable to boot into recovery mode so i have to start the whole process again. Any thoughts
