Aside from the snarky remarks about it being a Windows Phone, there are a few technical reasons why it would be difficult or impossible. First off, I doubt anyone could get the source code to compile WP7. Secondly, I believe that Microsoft requires the phones that run it to have Snapdragon processors, while the D3 uses an OMAP processor which is incompatible with the kernel. Also, I think that all WP7 phones have a fixed resolution, which is lower than that of the D3, so the display would look funky.
If that's the case then y and how did they import it to some HTC android phones there are 3 I know of

I highly doubt it would happen, but there IS a windows phone 7 launcher in the marketplace that is quite good.

HTC Phones generally come with Snapdragon processors, and often have similar hardware to one another. It's possible someone could figure out a way to run it on a phone with nearly identical specs as those for a WP7 phone. The only phone i've seen WP7 ported to was the HTC HD2, which isn't natively and Android phone. I've seen a few Android ROMs out there that look like WP7. Though, if you can post a link to some of the ones you've seen, I'd appreciate it.

Many of the OG Droid owners are nearing phone renewal time so hopefully many of them pick the Droid 3. Of course there is a lot more out there now for android phones so some of them may leave for other phones. I'm someone who likes having the option of a physical keyboard so the Droid 3 was for me.
I think our major players are starting to emerge. But yes, a lot of D1 and D2 owners are coming up for renewal, and we are deathly loyal to our droids.
That, and being one of the few dual core phones, a world phone, and a physical keyboard give it MAJOR appeal.

im hoping so too
I'm sure it will it just depends on on what they can do to the phone. And definitely if moto unlocks the bootloader. Then we have pretty much much have a overcharged 3g dominating phone. Especially if ChevyNo1 and peter Alfonso jumps aboard sorry for any misspellings in the dev names

Hmm well at the very least, I for one am getting this device tomorrow to start experimenting with it which will mean camera image and video enhancements.
First thing I will do once rooted will be to tweak the bitrate values for images, video/audio and fix the white balance tolerance/default colour matrix.
Then including smaller resolution values as menu options, strange why they only added 8mp and 6mp options, I need 3mp for some situations.
I think the phone will be perfect with only a few modifications as i'm a fan of stock firmware.

I am planning on working on the Droid 3, I have tried to root, and am still trying, but all attempts have been unsuccessful as you can tell. I do not doubt root will be found for the Droid 3 at all though.
It seems like alot of good people are working on it so I don't doubt that we'll get it soon

My faith lies within the community. I know well get this achieved!

hd2 is just one lucky phone.
The hd2 is one of the first high-spec phones. So it created a huge user base.
And since most of the hardware was very well documented and what was not was reversed in a relative short amount of time.
Besides that, most people didn't like win mobile 6.5 because it has quite some flaws.
Basically thats why the HD2 is just well one of the only phone's that has all the OS systems.
Friend of mine also has HD2 with Cyanogenmod on it, compared to my old desire (with cyanogenmod) its extremely fast.
Because the Incredible S has a pretty small user base its not very likely that win7 is available for our phones, but when someone (or group) is willing to write something similar for the desire HD or any other Android Phone which has similar specs as the IS there is a possibility that someone is willing to port it to the IS. (think of a custom bootloader or wrapper script)
Until than, your out of luck and have to do with android , but i cannot imagine that that really is a problem.
p.s. olmost forgot: the bootloader of the HD2 was pretty "simple" compared to the bootloaders we currently have and was pretty easy to modify to run a different OS.
http://www.xda-developers.com/windows-mobile/two-years-later-the-amazing-htc-hd2/
you should read this article about HD2.
the Wp7 drivers for HD2 were leaked, probably that was why it was possible.
not on the IS though ):

So I was wondering why its so important to get ics. As you can see I moved on to the Skyrocket from Samsung and Att. We got the leak a couple days ago. I must say, its nice to look at, but for someone who is familiar with the Android I really don't see anything amazing. Menus have changed and are easier to read, my phone was faster before ics. I don't know. I think gb with your mods are perfect.

How technology is today once something bigger and better is released everybody (well almost everybody) wants to be able to have the bigger and better. So they strive to get the new product and once they do they feel accomplished and if need be they fix stuff here and there if they need too.

Indeed, and that's all it really is. I am like that with phones and with cell companies. I have a goal to stick with Att for 2 years.
I agree that with ics, anyone who is new to Android will have an easier time navigating menus and what not.

I often wonder if its because this phone comes with bing. Maybe LG is in a contract with Microsoft and Google said "hell no you can't put bing in ICS!" So, we get left out

There are a number of people (i dont know them personally of course. We just see each other on another forum occassionally). When I asked him what for, he said Android is a bit unstable for him. He said his phone crashed in the middle of a business call or something important like that. So he went for a Windows Phone and its rock solid. He said it never crashed on him yet and I totally believe him. Windows Phone has always been quite solid and very reliable for day to day tasks like email, messages, dialing and the likes. The only thing lacking though, is the app store but he says it does not really matter. he uses his phone for work only so yea, does make sense that he would not care.

About time! In the nexus 7 forums someone made a touchwiz rom and I asked about sense and was told it's impossible. Given the similarities in the htc one x, and htc one architecture vs our chipset I don't think it's impossible, not at all. I'd love to help if I knew how to develop, but best of luck to ya!

Count me in for testing and applications, but as for coding, I'm a lost cause, even with a masters in tech. I can show someone how to USE or APPLY a product in the field once its created, but creation, I'll leave it to the pros! If there is anything I can do on the application/UI/FAQ/Help side that doesn't require coding, let me know.
I can definitely do any testing you need

The issue has nothing to do with chipsets or hardware. It is all software. Sense requires HTC frameworks and drivers to work. Many have tried and in the end things like data, wi-fi, GPS and things like that dont work. Trust me many high level devs have tried it and all have failed.

I get that but it's not impossible. Usually if you can find a device with the same chipset, it can be done. Devs in the HTC Flyer forum got ics with sense 4.0 ported because of the HTC One V having the same chipset. For us, DROID DNA would be the best place to start.

They were both HTC devices. The first nexus from HTC got a sense port as well.
Does htc modify their hardware in some way? You'd think underneath it all they would be identical to everything else. Forgive me I'm not a developer.

It is mostly a driver issue. The drivers are only made to work with HTC hardware. While the base hardware is the same things like the radio antenna, wifi, antenna, and things like this are different depending on the device. They are also programed very differently depending on the OEM. Without any of the Sense drivers for the OS those things dont work. This is how OEM keep their version of Android on their devices alone.
It shouldn't be really hard, target device is HTC Butterfly because has a 4.2.2 Sense ROM.I'll try 2morrow.
