Hi,
Is there an app which allows you to migrate screen icons from one launcher to another ?
E.g. Currently I have go launcher where I have places icons and widgets in 7 screens, if I want to try apex , adw or any other launcher then I have to re create everything from scratch which is quite painful. Specially if you want to try ICS roms, go launcher is quite boring. I would love to try other launchers but it required a lot of manual effort to migrate.
SS
Screen shots may be your only answer - but I would suggest that go launcher is a very good launcher and you may just be wasting you own time looking at others, just to revert back to what you have already,
Back up go launcher settings if you do go looking

migrating of screens from other launcher is the feature of the launcher itself.. i don't think there is any specific app for this.. I could be wrong though but apex launcher certainly doesn't support migration.. go launcher supports I think but that you are already using..
just install a new one without deleting the existing one and keep the one you like best

I am thinking about doing some theming with my Thunderbolt. In the past I have stuck with basic tweaks but now I would like to do some more in-depth theming.
I do not plan to manually modify files. Instead, I plan to theme the overall UI by using widgets, lock-screen replacements, and launcher settings.
For example, I would like to customize the look and feel of my device using some of the following tools:
Minimalist Text Widget
Simi Folders Widget
Beautiful Widgets
Desktop Visualizer
Widget Locker
etc
What is the best way to "theme" the device to have customizations such as lock screens and minimalist feel. I have begun using the above tools and can see the power behind them. In combo with launchers such as ADW or LauncherPro you can achieve the look and feel you desire.
I am unsure the best approach for lock screens and dock replacements.
I am planning to research this more but was hoping some more experienced "themers" in the community could chime in and share the best approach!! I understand that there is a lot of tweaking involved in this process.
Please provide your suggestions and advice. Maybe share what widgets you use and other things I may be missing (font packs, backgrounds, launcher docks, widgets, lock screens, etc.)
Thank You!
Most people use widget locker for the lockscreen...
I suggest , (personal taste) ADW Ex for a custom launcher replacement...
Thanks for starting off the suggestions! I plan to use WidgetLocker and ADW Launcher EX.
I need to look into more WidgetLocker themes to see what is possible!! The possibilities seem endless
I also need to find out how easy it is to replace icons/docks for ADW versus other available launchers!

How can I theme the lock screens? I am new to this, so any pointers would be helpful. I can dig deeper into the forums for that info as well.
I just figured using Widget Locker would allow for easy lock screen theming!

the lockscreens for htc are different than what im used to for aosp/touchwiz but the images are prolly in framework-res.apk, and htcresources.apk in system/framework and htclocksreen.apk in system/app
the aosp lockscreen would be framework-res.apk...sense slider in the other 2
Ahhh. Okay. So I would need to manually replace the images... makes sense.
One reason I am attracted to Widget Locker is the easy theming and ability to include information on the lock screen. For example, I could use Minimalist Text Widget to display battery level, time, etc.
I also plan to flash CM7 as soon as I feel it is ready (stable enough for regular function). No worries... I am definitely not sticking with Sense!

sense is kinda cool for the rosie mods and lockscreen mods you can do....and honestly i love the theme (i made the sense theme for the fascinate)....but aosp is certainly preferable for many things
Okay. What is the best way to change fonts?!
Also, which launcher do most people prefer for theming. The most popular seem to be ADW Launcher EX, Launcher Pro Plus, and Go Launcher EX.
I used ADW Launcher extensively with CM ROMs. I have not used the EX version but know it unlocks additional features (such as transition animations and the ability to swap dock/icon images).
I recently started using Launcher Pro Plus and am enjoying it very much! I do not know if ADW or Go Launcher has any additional functionality that would make it "better".
Finally, I have no experience with Go Launcher but have heard good things about it...

search xda for flashable font packs...some subforums have several hundred grouped together
Can anyone who has been using Widget Locker post some of their creative locksceen pics?
I can try to remember this evening after work.
Which launcher is the best home launcher for the g1 and WHY.
Launcher Pro, Zeam, and the Stock Launcher imo
I use Zeam Launcher; number of screens: 1.
It is important for a G1 to use a launcher who can build itself up quick, because everytime you use your keyboard, the homescreen is rotating, and have to build up again.
The more screens with widgets you use, the more time a 'screen-rotate' costs.
I end up using GO Launcher EX, that is the best one I found yet. Stock (ADW Launcher) seem to have too much problem.
I use ADW simply because of the fact it is the only one I found that allows me to create custom shortcuts.
The others don't give me that flexibility.
Heeter
I use LauncherPro because it is the smoothest out of all the launchers I have tried. I don't customize it that much so its fine.
zeam, light and fast.

Sent from my HTC Magic/Dream using XDA Premium App
zeam is fast, stable and doesn't lag while switching screens
i hope this is the right section if not please move. but is launcher pro the only one where u can change the icons without using a theme. i like changing the app draw icon like now im using mosaic(sp) icon. but im kinda tired of launcher pro and looking for something different, but i keep finding myself coming back to launcher pro.
Go launcher can do what you want.
thanks ill give it a try.
Multiple Launchers
If I have multiple launchers installed (or even just 1 extra than the stock launcher), do they all use system memory even if I have a default set? I'm using Serendipity VII, which I love, but I want to customize the icons so I've installed Go Launcher.
Am I taking a performance hit by using a different launcher?

As far as I know, no**, you won't take a performance hit by using a different launcher.
**Caveats:
1. As long as the launcher you use isn't a memory hog by itself.
2. As long as you check and make sure TouchWiz (or any other launcher) isn't showing up as a running process while you're using the other launcher.
Adw ex gets the job done, sure you have to pay for it but in my experience it gives me the best battery life and it's smooth as butter. I'm running darky's 10.2.2 and ADW beats go launcher and Launcher pro, just as responsive and snappy, way better battery life =)
I'd say use launcher pro plus/ adw free/donate version. I was huge fan of go launcher and widgets but after watching this http://youtu.be/iGPbvzPvkWw I am not sure if its really safe or not. Also if you really care about the performance use zeam as said in video, it is very very light on memory...
I bought LauncherPro after using the free version that DG had put into one of the Cognition roms. I loved it so much I bought a license. It's smooth, responsive, and very customizable, although I have left it stock.
ADWex for me all the way....GO Launcher was always laggy for me and I never liked Launcher Pro
OR you can try Launcher 7 PRO....which I made tiles for...this is what it looks like.

i agree adw ex works the best for me and has a lot of features. Launcher pro is probably the smoothest but has a few bugs and very few features. Go launcher is also great too if you want a free launcher with a bunch of features
Hi All, this might be a dumb question but: If I install Nova, do I have to delete everything that came stock on the Sony launcher, like Movies, PlanyStation etc...all of the icons, widgets, etc... or do I leave them and just start new with Nova? Does that make sense? I just dont want to switch to Nova and all these widgets, icons etc from Sony still 'running' somewhere in the background. Thanks!

hahaaha a second me!
I was wondering the same thing, just for the sake of it I always remove all the icons that are on the stock launcher. Because if you think of it, it's not as if you turn the other launcher off, you're just using another one. And the difference probably won't be amazing, but it could count towards a better battery life lol. Or maybe we're just paranoid :silly::silly::good:
Thanks, ill do the same and remove them off Sony...no reason to have them out there
You don't have to remove anything from stock launcher. It won't run in the background. You can setup how many different launchers you want and switch between without that effecting battery.
Launchers like Nova don't mess with apps at all. They simply create a new skin -- a new way of seeing and accessing what's already on the phone. All the same Sony apps will still be there in the app drawer and they'll behave in exactly the same way as they would if you were using the Xperia Launcher or any other launcher (although Nova might change some of the icons for system apps like dialer, messaging, settings etc.). And if you uninstall apps through Nova they're uninstalled from the phone, period. So they will not be there even if you revert back to the Xperia Launcher.

Great info, ty!
Has anyone got any alternative launcher working on this, I don't like the big icons filling up my home screen and the app drawer.
Thanks in advance.
I have Nova installed and running for the same reason but as soon as I try to add a widget it crashes and reverts to stock launcher
Why not try Nova Launcher it has a lot of customisation options.
First thing I did was install Nova Launcher
Nova for me and I have not experienced any crashes with widgets.
Just installed newest Version Nova Prime and Tesla Unread. Works perfect
Using Action Launcher .
originally using Action launcher using an imported layout and it kept crashing, but since resetting layout it seems stable.
worst thing about huawei phones is how they manage launchers and keep forcing their launcher on you
try also the microsoft launcher...it's amazing... used nova before but it's so cute and minimalistic. I like it.
I'm using nova (prime) and a android p theme. I had a crash when adding widgets once, but now it works fine.
Thanks for all the suggestions, I have a paid version of Nova but it never occurred to me to try it first. I am using it now and I like it, will give the Microsoft launcher a try also.
cheers

It seems to be Huawei specific widgets that bork Nova.
Weather Underground is fine, the Huawei Weather widget really upsets Nova, I've had to wipe the app data just to get Nova to restart
I've submitted a crash report and dump to Tesla Coil, so let's see what happens
I think for emui, you need to use third parties widgets if using nova launcher. Some of the emui widgets will cause crash....
anyone using magisk could try and flash the pixel launcher, thats what i plan to do once i get the phone
really love the pixel launcher on my 5T

Hi there, did you do anything specific to get Action Launcher to work in the first place ? i installed and it just crashes immediately when i try and run it (i've sent a bug report to AL dev team).
No not really.
I reset cache
Completely uninstalled and then reinstalled
Been stable ever since
Sorry I can't be of any more help
I have been using Nova Launcher for years but have switched to Microsoft Launcher as of recent and I have to say that I really enjoy it: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.launcher
P.S Just make sure to change default search engine from Bing back to Google and desactivate Cortana

Did the same for me no matter what I tried! Using nova now which I'm more than happy with
I use Lawnchair Launcher + Lawnfeed
Nova is pretty awful on the P20 looks like I will be changing away for the first time in years. Previously had on all my phones including the Pixel 2XL.
3rd party widgets just aren't auto-updating. Another Widget, was stuck on yesterdays event, Agenda Widget doesn't display my full calendar and just says "Loading" guess it's time to find something else. Looked at Microsoft Launcher but don't like the way you can't hide the homescreen indicator taking up space at the bottom and not looking clean like I want.
Pixel Launcher works great.
