[Q] DPI fix for nightly and installing Gapps - TouchPad Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello there, this is likely extremely obvious and I'm sorry for that but could somebody please walk me through these couple of things
The DPI on my Touchpad seems high, I'm aware there's a fix for this but I can't find it. Sorry.
Now I have the latest Nightly build of CM9 installed, how do I go about installing Gapps?
Sorry again, and thanks.
[edit] I said too low when I meant too high

To change the DPI, you can use a file explorer (I have only really used root explorer) to change the build.prop in the /system folder. If I had my TouchPad with me I could tell you the exact line but it has something to do with density and shows a number which is what it is currently at. I think the normal is 160. You can change that there, save the file and reboot for it to take effect.
The gapps zip folder, you just flash in clockworkmod recovery.

Please do some research before you render your device useless.... Being lazy and not taking the time to search for such common solutions has no excuse.... No matter how politely you ask for help

I use a program that I got from google play. Its called dpi something, works great and fix play store problems. I use 132 and it looks great.

DPI changer utility works great for me. It is free and requires a reboot to apply.

I think i figured it out Modaco doesn't support it in the rom I went over tried out Gumbo's I like it a bit better than modaco's cause it doesn't feel as stock as modacos. it is based on his . Maybe there's an apk to enable it floating around somewhere.

Ya that sounds right. It started as soon as I updated to 2.2. Hopefully there will be a fix or something soon.
use fresh's kitchen to clear both the boot and dalvik cache. voila, problem solved.

if you have voice search then you're missing the libspeech.so file in the lib folder, in system
go to you cmd and check to see if your libsppeech.so file is in there if not then push the file back in and reboot.
attached is two zip either push the file on your own or the sign zip put it in your sdk card and install in form recovery like you would to a rom.
good luck

SGT Hard Resets on every bootup on any ROM.

It's been quite a learning curve getting my Sprint CDMA Galaxy Tab and attempting to load every Miui, CM7/CM9 I could find on XDA and Rootzwiki. I never fully tested my tablet before beginning the delve into the flashing world so I don't know if this is an issue with the tablet itself or caused by my endless flashing trials.
I simply am unable to save any settings or data. Everytime I boot up, no matter which ROM (Miui CM7/9), it is always factory reset. This is quite frustrating.
I'm back on stock from odining Sprint EF17 GB w/ original PIT file and this is still happening. Does anyone have any idea if this was self-incurred or if there is a partitioning bug of some sort that I have missed.
Much Thanks in advance!
So every time you turn on your Tab it loads and then reboots in a continuous loop? Do you see the Android OS unlock screen or the load process does not gets so far? Because if it does not then in my opinion the boot loader is incorrect for some reason. That is my opinion.
What you can do if you suspect that the PIT is incorrect, you read your PIT and save via Heimdall and compare it with somebody else who has the same Tab as you have.
Unable to personalize "issue"

Negative. This is not a continuous loop bug. It is a "unable to personalize" bug. I can install market/apps/data/contacts etc etc, but every single time I boot up. it's a Fresh Copy with no personalized settings.

Yes I booted into CWM,fixed permissions, rebooted, put 2-3 icons on desktop, rebooted.
Nothing, it was back to factory default settings.
A permissions issue does make sense, but it didn't work and this is just mind boggling to me.

I'm sorry you have the same problem.
However I'm glad to have someone to share it with. Misery loves company. I've scoured the web for 3 days and have nothing.
Please if anybody knows what's going on. From my non-developer logic I need to find a way to get the changes I make to my phone to write permanently (so to speak), everything I do is temporary until I reboot.
Hmmmm... I suppose you guy's already tried to wipe all caches and reflash the kernel (= not the ROM, just the kernel) ?
Where do I find the Kernal?
It's the zImage file right?
The ROM I'm on right now is JT's CM7 here:
I wanted to try just flashing the kernal but I am unable to locate the zImage file. What directory is it in?
Edit: I found the Kernal, it's actually in the CWM 5.0.2.7 package. I'm gonna try flashing the kernal over to see if it fixes the issue.
Edit2: No cigar, reflashing kernal does not fix this issue. On a side note, I tried to upgrade to CM9 and got "Encryption Unsuccessful". Not that I am knowledgable in this, but it seems the issue may share some commonality with that.

Hi,
Yah, zImage should be the kernel.
In this thread, I found something about the issue you have. It might have something to do with NoFrillsCPU... Hope this helps

Eh, I just went through all 37 pages of that thread. Couldn't find anything on NoFrillsCPU and didn't see any issues that resemble mine. Was that tthe right thread? I'll do a google for nofrillscpu and see if that brings up anything.

you read very fast then LOL
Anyway, my bad, it's not NoFrillsCPU but it's SetCPU ... It's in the OP : "Please DO NOT check the "Set on Boot" button in SetCPU untill you have tested it, or you may not be able to get control back without a reflash."
EDIT : Looks like there's a misunderstanding in me confused about the CDMA versions. Sounds like this thread has all the solutions you need. I may be wrong , of course...

I think you have my issue confused with another . My issue is that everytime I boot it's a clean boot with google account reset/desktop reset. I can't save any settings or download any apps without it getting wiped by a boot. I don't even think my ROM is currently overclocked but I'll look to see if indeed it's hiding in here somewhere.
Let me know if you see anything else that I can try :-(
Thanks though
Edit: Just checked, my system was not overcloccked and set on boot was not checked so this is definetely not the same issue.

Help please guys :) stuck on a boot looop

I need help please, ive looked around on the forum for an answer to my problem but to no avail..
The story goes...
Had my lovely note 2 for a while, decided to root used (exynos abuse). (i only needed root for root explorer as i wanted to change the boot animation) i never got around to doing this.
Next thing i was on the playstore and i seen a DPI modifier, i downloaded that and set the DPI to 240 granted su permissions and the phone rebooted..
Now im stuck in the samsung logo boot loop..
Could someone please help my get my note 2 back.. im not bothered about the data on there as all this is backed up.
I have already downloaded odin, but not sure what to go from here as i am still a n00b
I hope you guys don't mind me creating a thread, i have used the search bar intensively before starting this
I look forward to your replies, nice simple answers please guys just tell me what to download and what to do with it..
Please dont start flaming me, i know what i dont was wrong, and i now realise that i should of actually modded the dpi myself rather then using an app.
Kindest of regards
Tom
ok first of all this is N7000 thread and not N7100.
as you now have odin, download the rom you were on earlier from samfirmware.com and flash it using Odin by putting the phone in download mode.
if you want to change DPI, use LCD density or RomToolbox next time

I didn't realise i had posted in the N7000 section pps:
I will give that a go later on today after work and see what happens, do i use the PDA mode on Odin??
Thanks again
Yes PDA
Google on changing the dpi via ADB.
This will hopefully solve it once you changed it back without reflashing

Thats brill thanks for that, i just done a search on XDA and it seems quite easy to pull and push build.prop via ADB.
I think i may give that a go first, if all else fails il push stock fw to the device
Thanks again guys
hmm. have tried that.. i have faced the exact same issue.. changed the build.prop LCD density using root explorer and then entered a boot loop. In boot loop my adb was not able to detect the phone, even though usb debugging was ticked.
Do you remember if the USB debugging was ticked. May be you will be luckier than me

My phone could be found via adb, i pulled the build.prop from the phone and edited the LCD Density strings to no avail.
I pushed the build.prop back to the phone restarted the device and it is still stuck on the boot loop.
Im not sure what else that might have changed in build.prop using that app from the market.
Ive looked through the build.prop and i cant see anything else that may be wrong with it???
Is there maybe a way i can get a stock build.prop from here? maybe someone has a UK GN2 on 4.1.1 ALJ3 that i can steal the build.prop from.. would that work?
Regards
Tom
That's the reason you are on the wrong forum. People might have it for 7000 but not for 7100

Be careful with Font Installer/ROM Toolbox

Hey everyone,
Just wanted to give you a quick heads up; be careful when using "Font Installer" or ROM Toolbox (the Font Installer within it is the same tool by the same person).
I installed some fonts that were different from the Samsung ones, and used it for a while. The font didn't apply to all text, which kind of annoyed me but I lived with it. Today I tried to switch back to a Samsung default, but it didn't override the one I had selected. So I simply deleted those fonts I installed in Root Explorer (ONLY the 3 I installed) and rebooted thinking it would revert back to a default font.
I am now stuck on the boot animation. Oh well, I'll reflash but I just wanted to give everyone a heads up. (The only things I should lose are a few pictures)

Before I force myself to be stuck on MF1, I am trying to repair what I did. Does anyone know if I can use ADB to push the files back to system/fonts?
I'm have the phone in stock recovery, and I have ADB up, but I get "device unauthorized" unless I select "send update from ADB" to which it wants me to sideload. I can sideload stuff, but that doesn't seem work for me wanting to push a few TTF files. Any ideas?
This doesn't help you now. But next time use ifont. I did the same as you did my friend.

I wish I had seen this thread before I tried to use Font Installer to install a new font. I now have "Unfortunately Samsung keyboard has stopped" popping up every 5 seconds, and I can't access the keyboard to type anything else at all. I can only reboot using Recovery mode. I cleared the cache and did a full factory reset...still getting this error. The phone is rooted. I rooted following a very basic step by step procedure, so I don't have a lot of knowledge in this area, and would appreciate any help in getting access to the keyboard.

[Q] Need Help Deciding What to do With Rooted Phone

So I just successfully rooted my lovely HTC One from Sprint. I've got TWRP 2.6.0.1 on it and all.
I'd REALLY like to get rid of all this garbage on my phone that I'm never going to use, however I also would like to keep it as close to stock as possible. I really enjoy Sense for the most part (minus quirks that I'm willing to live with, and BlinkFeed). I know how/can find out how to load a custom rom - I had CM7 on my HTC EVO 4G (1st Gen) and loved it. But I really don't want to be without Sense.
Can anyone make any suggestions as to what I should do/which rom I should use?

Sorry, I'm overwhelmed at the wealth of knowledge here. Is there a link to the specific one you're talking about? Search didn't do me a ton of good. Though I suppose I could send the guy a message and inquire about his ROM.
Thank you for all your help guys!
Okay so I've decided that I want to try the OMJ ROM. Now here's where I am unsure of exactly how to do it. I see that certain ROMs require different methods. I can't just copy the ZIP to my internal storage and use TWRP to flash it, right? It has to be more complicated than that...
Also, I just went past the return window for the phone so I really cannot afford to brick it. I assume that there's next to no chance of the aforementioned tragedy befalling me providing I stick with the mainstream ROMs?
Most roms are in a flashable format i use the CM 10.2 nightly myself. from what i can tell as long as you can get into the bootloader your safe. I wiped my whole phone SD card and everything accidentally with TWRP one time. Ended up having to use sideload to get a CM rom installed again but i was never in danger of bricking. When flashing roms always remember to do a factory reset to wipe the cache and do an advanced wipe of the data and system. after the rom is installed it will ask you to wipe the cache again which is always nice to do.

No worries, I am new to the unlocking scene too with this device . Those flashable zips will normally have the boot.img files included and when installing twrp will take care of it via the script inside the zip. if you open the zip file with winzip or something you should see that file on the root. TWRP or ClockworkMod recoveries make it really easy to install and backup roms.
flashing the boot.img i guess is for recovery purposes say if the system is in a boot loop. Or maybe if you upgrade the system only and didnt change boot img between two different roms. I personally never had to do this. After unlocking the device i used fastboot to replace the recovery and just do everything else inside the recovery.

Alright, so I've got OMJ's rom running no problem. Love the new feel but what I'm wondering is...is there still a way to delete apps like Stocks and other crap I won't use? I can disable some but not all, and none am I able to uninstall completely.
Would it be something as simple as going into the OMJ ZIP file and removing the unwanted apk files and then re-flashing to that version?

I suppose that could be one way of doing it, but i dont think its necessary. if you are already rooted or can install root easy i would just install a Root file explorer. Browse to the /system/app folder i think it is and delete the APKs from there.

Yeah I tried that with ES explorer AND Root File Manager. ES would have an error, and Root File Manager would simply say it was deleted but it was never actually deleted. I think it has something to do with the security. I'm not really sure, haha! I'm used to being able to just openly delete apps from within Settings>Apps like the old days of my EVO 1st gen.
hmm interesting as long as the /system is mounted as r/w permissions you should be able to delete. well if you are planning on reflashing using the modify zip method im curious to know if that works.

use Root explorer, and set it at r/w
also Titanium Backup will delete it for you too.
If I remember correctly there are a few apps in the play store that are specifically for getting rid of "bloatware".....maybe search bloatware removal, our uninstall bloatware something like that. Hopefully this helps!

Thanks! I'm working on it now. I did not see an app called "ROM Cleaner" or "ROMCleaner" but I did find something called Rom Toolbox Lite that I'm going to attempt to use.
Will post back. I may look for the ROMCleaner on the net and just install it manually.
Edit: So I guess I showed my ignorance there. It appears ROM Cleaner is something offered through the forum. I'm unsure of how to use it so I'll take a look around.

It's very doubtful you will have success with Romtoolbox either once you reboot all the apps will return
