HDC Galaxy Note N7000/i9220 Android Dualsim Phone - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After some messing about on-line I was intrigued to find this video review of something that "looked" similar to the Galaxy note.
Obviously its not the real thing as you and I are well aware but it prompted me to do some more researching.
After a few nights of checking out the different versions of the "clone" I decided to bite the bullet and buy one to play about with.
Now I don't know much about Android phones and was hoping someone might be able to give me some advice as to exactly what this phone is capable of in terms of using the android marketplace and installing generic android apps.
I am a little unsure of some of the screens. It shows that it has Android Version 4.0.3 - Does that mean it has ICS already installed?
The other thing I was wondering is whether or not there are any custom roms that will do away with some of the China/Far East apps/languages that this thing will be able to run?
I have attached some pics and also the pics that I was sent in .rar files from the supplier..
**I understand that this is not the real deal so anyone who feels like having a nice flaming session then rant away. My questions are genuine in the hope to learn something..
Cheers

It's probably the cheapest hardware around in that. Don't expect any smoothness and it's on the completely opposite end of the phone spectrum from the Note. Doubt there are any custom ROM for it as well, but it probably runs many apps from Play.
I don't know why you would waste money on it, unless you try to look cool by pretending you have a genuine Note. It's a bit like walking around with a fake Rolex.

Yea for sure I know what you're saying. I know someone with a fake rolex. He has had it for many many years. It still even tells the right time
I in no way purchased it to "pretend" to have the real deal. I have an iphone already and this was more something to play around with.
I like the "open source" side to it and with my Linux background and Programming and coding firmware for Satellite TV Receivers It took my fancy as its not locked down as badly as an I-Phone.
I guess from reading a bit more I would have do dump the firmware that is already on the phone and decompile it and figure out how to edit it to my own needs and then re-flash.
Hell, for £130 if it keeps me amused and out of mischief for a few months then its money well spent.
I would rather learn on something that costs a LOAD less. Once I am familiar with the whole system structure, Tools, Terms, Apps, etc etc I will probably buy the real deal.
Take Care..

I was thinking of buying one. Are they good? Where did you buy yours? The white one looks nice.

hi mate, when it arrives I will let you know!

still beats the dell streak lol
not bad for a fake phone imo, anyone who wants a big screen on a budget could use it.

Hey I woudn't mind using this over my (screen-plagued issues) Gnote..
This phone easily beats the features of the real mccoy.
I wonder how would Sammy feel that a run of the mill cheapo phone like this has their branded logo emblazoned on it?
Watching the video mesmerized me on the myriad capabilities this knockoff can offer.
Also great music, it 'tranced' me while watching the phone's features...
Cheers!

Does it run real ICS ?
There are fake Chinese 'iFones' in the market which certainly don't have IOS.

He says in the video it runs Gingerbread which would also explain the GB in the build number.
For 130 pounds I guess it's a pretty decent phone. It has a pretty slow single core CPU and a relatively low resolution for such a big screen but in the end you get what you pay for. I'm sure it's a nice toy to play around with and for a first Android experience you could do a lot worse but since I first used my Note I'll never settle for anything less anymore
Because these types of phones are never meant for international sales I doubt there will be any viable custom roms anytime soon and I think you can forget about official updates but even stock Gingerbread is a very decent OS. You'll miss out on a big part of the 'openness' of Android though.
Once you decide to get the real deal you'll be amazed at what the real Note is actually capable of.

I guess it has 800x480 res which gives you pixels like golf balls with a 5.3" screen. That's so extremely far from the Note hi res experience...

In the movie the guy says "it's got a 5.3 inch 5-point multi-touch screen".
That's another difference from the real Note, only being able to detect a maximum of 5 touch points. The Note detects at least 10. Nothing to be concerned about I think, I've never used more than 3 fingers at the same time.

Ah okay cool cool. I think in the vid he says 5.3 but on his blog, he later corrects it.
Good that you mention about the 5 touch points. I wondered what he was doing when he touched the screen like that.
How and why would you use more then 5 fingers at one time anyway? Still pretty cool that the "real" note can do 10.

Ah okay. I am already mooching about for legit ones and there seems to be a good deal on the Real Note from amazon.de for about £350
I am actually quite looking forward for the fake one to arrive to see what its like. When I spoke to the seller, he said it came with some Legit Sammy software so who knows what that's for..
Looks like it Left Guangzhou on Friday so I expect it to be here sometime before the end of this week.

I think spythedude is aware of the fact this phone doesn't come anywhere near the specifications of the real Note. Everything about the phone screams FAKE!!! But still, for 130 pounds I think it's a pretty decent device given it's large capacitive screen. I can't think of any Android phone getting anywhere near such screen size for 130 pounds. It won't be the fastest phone around but there used to be Android phones with even worse hardware that still gave a good user experience.

Hi
I didn't mix up any pictures, I'm showing in my video exactly what I received when I ordered it. I have the FEELING (and I don't know this) that the box it came in might actually be an original box but of course it could be a fake as well. The phone definitely is NOT made by Samsung and whatever specs I mention in the video, I did so to the best of my knowledge.
I'm not trying too "fool" anyone, I'm just reporting about a phone, trying to show people how a device like this operates, that's it!

I'm not promoting or selling anything. I just make videos of the phones and tablets that I order from China, giving who ever might be interested in these devices "the heads up" what the devices are all about.
I couldn't care less if some likes a particular device or not and/or orders one of them from whatever online store
I've been reviewing phone and tables for years now, some are "fakes", some are not and so far my videos have been very much appreciated by the majority of my viewers
If you don't like my videos, don't watch them. If you don't like the device, don't buy it But please don't accuse me of mixing things up to fool anyone, I've never done that and I never will.

ok, i've already signed the drivers perition for the kaiser on his forum but there is something that i do not understand. say htc does agre to give us the drivers, wont this be a hardware change or will it be a software on. if hardware thing then how wil they pull back all of the already sold kaisers? if it's a software change, cam' somebody here cook a rom that will get the drivers working? watching vids on the tilt isn't the greatest so can somebody please explain this to me. thanks

Drivers are a set of instructions for the hardware...
In short:
Software
Well to explain it a little bit, the problem on the actual firmware/drivers is, that they aren't optimized enough for the video performance stuff... so they want htc to work on the drivers for that stuff, to use the full capacity of the current internal hardware!
So the hardware it self is good and has the capacity for improvements, but the htc frimware/drivers are not able to use it.
So if HTC works on the driver they can get a lot more power/performance out of the current hardware
Imagine someone selling computer chips without telling anyone how to use them. Chips need to receive a specific set of instructions and provide a specific set of results.
We are not mad that HTC sold us a device that is missing a chip, we are mad that HTC sold us a chip that doesn't fully function. They have sold us an engine without the timing computer and are telling us we should push our cars everywhere.

I'm so over this whole "HTC owes me", and so on... At the end of the day, it plays back videos. Not as well as it could, agreed - But it plays them. This is not the PRIMARY function of the device - please stop comparing it to the cars engine. Keep it in perspective... I'd say this function is more comparable it to say a cars factory stereo system.
HTC didn't sell you a video player, they sold you a phone, that also has HEAPS of other functions, video playback being ONE of them. So many things about the phone are great, but that doesn't seem to matter apparantly.
The Kaiser is a huge improvement in many ways over the Hermes, so I think it's a fantastic product

Well, they can't cook in software drivers that don't exist yet.
Maybe when a product that uses the same chip that also has the proper drivers comes out.
Now I agree with the poster that says it's not a big deal, it is a phone after all. But if we can get it implemented even better. I wouldn't go crazy over it, but there nothing wrong with keeping the manufacturers honest so they give us the best product possible.

Sorry mate, but even when compared with a car stereo the lack of proper drivers is a major issue.
Imagine buying a new BMW E92 as an upgrade from E46, with a Pioneer/Kenwood/Sony/Altec Lansing/Sehnheiser speaker system installed and wired to a... TAPEDECK, which also happens to be out of sync with the cassete and does not have enough power to drive the speakers, at all, and I'm talking about whisper-level volume. Sure, it gets you around and looks bling-y and has a bundled GPS and audio playback is not a primary feature of a car, but for some reason your old E46 and your neighbours Toyota Corolla does a better job at it (not to mention that it runs longer on one gas refill).
You paid a big wad of cash for a device advertised and priced as "ultimate", yet it lacks a feature you got used to having on your previous one and the manufacturer doesnt even have the decency to admit its mistake, dont you think you have every bit of a reason to be mad at them?

I see your point and I don't feel HTC owes me anything. HTC should at least, deliver on what they advertise.
My 1st generation Kaiser aka Tmobile MDA played back video without any stutters. I would expect that a successor device developed two hardware cycles later work better than it's little brother.

And thats quite simply just one small disappointing factor in the device.
Myself, instead of petitioning and whatever other nonsense, put it down to an aspect of the device that wasn't as good this time around. Next device release, I'd look at it to see if I wanted to go down that path again... If it bothered me that much, I'd move on to a different brand and be done with it...

Another disappointing factor is the so-and-so quality of the 3 MP camera. About half of the photos I have shot with my TyTN II have turned out worse than what I got from my old i-mate JASJAM. Auto focus seems to be missing often on landscape shots and has difficulties with infinity:
(Click on image for full size photo.)
Compare the above TyTN II photo with the JASJAM photo I posted here.
Plus that the photo quality looks like 2 MP photos interpolated up to 3 MP size. So I usually keep the camera set to 2 MP :-(
(Apologies for side-tracking the topic of this thread.)
Overall I would say though that I am fairly satisfied but I doubt that my next smartphone will be anything produced by HTC.

Cool, like I say... next time you may decide not buy HTC - thats the price a company can pay if you don't like their product. Doesn't mean that they are obligated to do anything for you now... At the end of the day, their product does what they said it would - even if it's not to the standard of some of these users...
what are the chances that we will get these drivers? high or low? will it be a whole new rom? maybe windows6.1 or just 6? If they're thinking of 6.1 then we probably wont get these drivers till mid next year. photon will almost be out by then. any chances we get them before the end of the year or no?

HTC devices are boring

Is it me or do these devices get boring after awhile? I'm thinking about intentionally bricking my Tilt and restoring it just so I have something to do with it. Pretty pathetic I know. Nothing new or innovative has been released for it yet.
Haha, this wasn't quite the thread I was expecting, thank God. But I think this happens with all phones. I thought the Tilt was the coolest thing ever and now that I have had it for a couple months I'm kind of bored with it. I felt the same way about the iPhone and the Blackberries that I have had too though, so I don't think you can really specify that it is HTC devices. It is kind of the reason for innovation, people get bored with things faster and faster these days.
it's even worse for those who don't have pockets full of cash to fork over for lots of software for these devices.freebies help but not everyone enjoys trials and simply can't spend on numerous programs

How many years do I have to wait b4 I get my true "do it all" device?
I was reading about Sharp's new Willcom D4 UMPC today and thinking damn - it's kinda like my tilt - and an actuall real computer!
getting closer!!!
but I want it to make phone calls - not skype.....but driving cross country through the boonies traditional cell phone roaming cell phone service.
and I want 3g, gps, wifi and hell....a 5 megapixel decent looking camera/video.....and def @ least 8 full use hours (streaming video via wifi with the audio sent to my bluetooth headphones hours)
Also I'd like a nice cradle like the oqo for home/office use on traditional moniter/keyboard/mouse.
And of course it's gotta fit in my [email protected] least in the cargo pants pocket size
I know its gunna be a while....but how long u guys think?
5 years for my true do it all perfect device? I guess I'll have to wait - but Id quickly drop 2-3 grand on it today....if only it existed.
(does Microsoft want this device to exist today? is there a purpose for windows mobile when this device comes out? Is microsoft the reason for the "seperation" of the 2 OS's of the htc shift? why can't they communicate between each other fluently? why cant I make a traditional (non skype) phone call on the xp side of this device? - The everun seems to be able to do it though. - I know the technology is not quite yet here to get all these features in a pocketable device - but were soooooooo close it seems)
/dreaming of running cubase (music production software)/photoshop/etc. etc. @ work instead of just attempting to read engadget on a wannabe browser (my current fav is skyfire or opera.....but both leave me wanting more) on my pocketable (tilt) "do it all" device
/dreams and crazy glues an oqo to the back of my att tilt and puts a car battery in my backpack

No, it's a guide to help you help you migrate. Should you decide that's what you want to do.
yes and i appericiate that thanks...i just wondered if anyone has made the move...i'm stuck whether to keep the phone or not..
Nearly there...
I'm a iPhone 4 32Gb owner since June launch day with a HTC HD7 on it's way to me in the next few days or week (all depending on USPS First Class International Mail!). Once I get it, I will upgrade it with a SanDisk 32GB Class 2 with help with another thread here.
I'm looking forward to the HTC HD7 and I know deep down there will be some things that will niggle me about WP7... however, I just want to have decent notification which WP7 has! Jailbreaking the iPhone has been easy (but the present jailbreak is 'teathered'- urgh!).
I've been using 'Notify Pro' which has been a pain on the iPhone. To be honest, I thought why am I wasting my time with this buggy third party app from Cydia to get something which should be standard in the first place. I'm also impressed how it has so far integrated FaceBook in WP7, but Twitter needs some tweaking I hear.
I most probably miss the 'iPod ecosystem' (docks and car ICE) but hoping the WP7 UI will wow me and the screen size does look great for browsing the Internet and watching media (Use to have a HTC HD2 and loved the screen but not the constant rebooting!).
I'm planning to keep the iPhone 4 and HD7 for a few months... perhaps, Microsoft's upgrade in January might swing it for me finally!

I have had both
they are both excellent
the HD7 has a superior user interface, in that you can switch between a tiled status screen and a list of icons. Its also slicker and cooler (whatever that means )
the larger screen is great. the web browser is slightly slower but it can render some things the iphone browser can't, e.g. go to unlocking.com and try the drop-downs on the iphone ..... I will also be able to do flash at some point, something apple has vowed not to do
its drawbacks are that the app storee has some fun stuff but its small compared to apple. The biggest thing about the WM7 user interface, the active tiles, need to be expanded more. i would like something "HTC sense" like. Obviously we are also waiting for cut & paste in the Jan firmware release.
There is apossibility of expanding the HD7's memory manually as well, as its actually an embedded MicroSD card which many folk have already taken out and replaced with a 32gb one.
thanks alexander for your insight..its just i have had an iphone since 3g, 3gs, 4 and suddenly i thought i need a change i also have had hd2 which i loved..but because of the bugs it had to go..i also have 32gb iphone 4 but one thing is bothering me is "you don't know what you have got until it has gone" i think i will have another go tonight

the HD7 has a superior user interface, in that you can switch between a tiled status screen and a list of icons. Its also slicker and cooler (whatever that means )

it depends on the person. the iphone is more compact and more beautiful (although the HT7 is also very nice).
you first need to decide whether you are comfortable with the size of the device.
also, have you purchased many iphone apps ? you might have "buyer remorse" letting these go
i personally continue to use both. I get bored of the iphone very quickly, then the HD7 is more fun. But then I miss my apps so go back to the iphone for a bit ....
If you have no app investment then definitely try out the HD7
Hello,
I have both and to be honest, I don't know which one to advice..... ;-))
Both are great in differents ways, iPhone is iPhone and I have had one since the first model. I have had plenty of Windows mobile device about 15, I guess.
Now, WP7 looks great, integration with Facebook and of course Xbox live...this is THE point.
I love having my Xbox live account with me all the time, having success on my phone when away from home....
On an other side, I'm so used to my iPhone, I have plenty of softwares I know and I like very much....
So, I decieded to keep both for the moment with 2 SIM cards, like this I have the best from both....
To be honest I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab as well and it's so great....
So the best, if you have enought money, is to have one of each... ;-))
Regards,
I went from iPhone 3G S to the HTC HD7 (T-Mobile branded). There's not much I'm missing. Maybe tethering but I'm sure that will soon be fixed. I like not having to convert anymore of my music. I can load the CD and burn it to hard drive and I can play it straight away on the phone. I don't have to convert it to Apple format to make it portable. I like that I can swap the battery too. Couldn't do that with iPhone. There's a few other nuances but that will happen with anything new. That's only one perspective though. Keep watching for the suggestions and feedback.
I have both the iPhone 4 (haven't sold yet) and the HD7 (just got).
I feel like the operating system on the HD7 is so much better than iOS, but that is going to be personal preference, varying with what people want to do, how techy they are, etc.
As far as the actual phones go, I love the HD7. It's not a retina display, but the size is fantastic and colors vibrant.
Honestly, the only things I miss from my iPhone are jailbreak apps. The new windows OS has already been hacked, so it's only a matter of time until I have them again

Im a nintendo fanboy myself, the developmental possibilities for the 3ds are amazing!
I bet you could even port android to one of its screens
Well considering it's an ARM processor, would be interesting if someone tried porting Android to the NGP/PSP2.
In general, it looks great, I highly doubt many games will use the new features well though. I'm looking forward to having a touchscreen keyboard with online games, hopefully they do a good job with it.
I don't think that's gonna be possible. Sony is mightily afraid of the homebrew scene...
And I hope it doesn't go touchscreen either. Just stick to the traditional button controls, please

Just because they don't want it doesn't mean it's impossible Exploits will be found eventually.
And a bit late for that, have you seen the NGP yet? It's already got both a touchscreen and a touchpad on the back, the new main interface is based on it(hideous, but it's based on it )

After seeing Sony abandon the PSP (in terms of games, at least) after it was jailbroken, you'll have to excuse me if I'm reluctant to adopt the PSP2... but well...
And I stand corrected, there is a touchscreen on it, but my earlier comment was more pointed towards redundancy in gaming devices. There are already three significant portable gaming devices with touchscreen (iOS, NDS and Android), and I'm not sure the market is open enough for another (as opposed to a niched 3D-heavy porta-console).
I just hope that the platform has more games, rather than the sucky barrage of J-games...
In terms of jailbreaking... well... it took 4 full years for it to happen. You gonna wait?
Will totally depends on price and popularity!
it will be outdated enuff to not be worth to get a separate console for gaming by the time it comes out ... basically , its already dead before birth , sony should know better what huge changes go down in one year in the exponentially growing phone market
dont say the word

Im dead afraid because of this. NBut then again UNCHARTED ON PSP2, sony got me there. There is no competition. Plus GOD OF WAR. Enough said. All i want is TV OUT then I can say goodbye to PS# for good and buy me a better smartphone.

Still don't think the Nexus 7 has color correction/grey scale problems. Wtahc this

Still don't think the Nexus 7 has color correction/grey scale problems. Its been well documented on these very forums, but just by luck I stumbled upon this video, fast forward to 8;34 and look at the video, I don't know what can be done if anything.
youtube.com/watch?v=MD8n7xaPBMo just add these together to get to the video
Or if this is even a tablet wide problem or is just affecting a small number of tablets. I compare the colors to my buddies iPad 3 and while I would never expect them to be as bright or vibrant, they are just not correct and slightly too cool or on the blue side.
Just watching this video I would determine the Nexus 7 has a inferior display, thankfully thats not the case. But something is not right.
If you're talking about the white balance/washout problem, try the steps in this post (root required)
I've had a major overall improvement after disabling the feature in that post. Everyone should at least give it a try, as it can be easily re-enabled if you don't get the same results.
Its problem with the Galaxy Nexus too. Its just software used to make things faster.
CM10 has an option to up the dithering. It looks great when enabled. I didn't see that option on any N7 roms yet. Just a matter of time.

Well since we're being condescending, if you're so happy with your excellent value for money tablet, maybe, just maybe, you should go and watch Transformers on infinite repeat instead of spending your time mashing the reply button to post defensive nonsense in threads that have nothing to do with you.
Hmm, brand new registered user coming to the Nexus7 forums and trying to get everyone to watch a video comparing it to the iPad3.
Is this how low Apple viral marketing has stooped?
My Nexus7 colours look just fine thanks, I don't need or want someone trying to convince me otherwise with some doctored viral video or some "expert" telling me so.

Whatever man, but some of you dudes looking a test patterns all day whinging that your device that you bought for a price less than some mp3 players doesn't have perfect colour reproduction gets very tiresome very quick.
Let me tell you how it is. The screen will not be the best on the market, in fact at the price you'd expect it to be one of the worst, but it isn't. Its not perfect, but for the price its pretty good and the headslappers that expect it to reproduce every colour perfectly along with perfect blacks, quite frankly need to get a grip.

Are you talking about the bit where the video's narrator says "Then again you get those nicer, slightly nicer-looking colors with the Google Nexus 7"?
...
So what's your point?
Some people have a problem with their screens, these aren't all the same problem and there are several factors playing a role. While these people have come on to the forum to moan, these are still isolated problems and in general the Nexus 7 has a very good display. I've tested mine and it surpasses anything I'd expect from a mobile device. The iPad3 is better in general (mostly because of its larger colour gamut and higher res), but there are still plenty of people with iPads who're moaning that they got a lemon.
If you got a bad one then that sucks, send it back and get a replacement. But in general the Nexus 7's display is extremely good.

So I can't complain

If you watch the video its actually a direct comaprison vs the Kindle fire, I posted it because its alarming that the Nexus 7 looks worse fast forward to 8:34.
After looking at a Razr Maxx most of the day, the screen looks fantastic. After looking at my GNex when I use it on the weekends, the screen on the Nexus looks fantastic. It is a 200 dollar device, however when compared to other 200 dollar devices, it is leaps and bounds ahead of the competition. I have no problems whatsoever. The screen is bright, text is crisp, and videos look fantastic. What more do you want? Complaining because the screen isn't a retina display, or because it doesn't look as good as the new iPad is ridiculous. People pay a premium for that screen so it is obviously going to be better. You knew exactly what you were getting when you bought it (not as far as defects, as in screen resolution). This argument is along the same lines as the lack of expandable storage argument. If the storage and resolution wasn't good enough for you, why buy it?

Not that I disagree with you by any stretch of the imagination, but I wouldn't doubt that *some* reports of screen issues are actually true, whereas the vast majority of them are absolutely fine. I have yet to come across a Nexus 7 with a screen as some users have described... everything I've personally seen has been great. I personally have 2 and about 6-8 friends/co-workers have a Nexus 7 as well, all with identical results.
So there again, I agree with you, but I would actually go as far as to say the screen on the Nexus 7 is by no means a budget screen but it's actually REALLY nice, but I wouldn't discount what some users are saying - maybe a few lemons exist? After all, the only people complaining would be the ones having the issue - for the hundreds of thousands of other users who are loving their screens, they won't be investing time to register on forums just to give it a :good:, unlike other users like myself who just happen to be here and posting out of my own interest.
