HI guys
im new to the galaxy, been using the g2x for a while. i read all the guides here and on another forum and i still need some help. i want to root my phone, its with a stock rom:
2.3.3
baseband: I9000JHJV9
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9000JHJVG-CL788779
[email protected]#2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.JHJVG
i know i need to replace the kernel with a modified one. could not find anything suitable since the build and baseband are too new (HJV9!?)
will this kernel do?

That should do it. In case anything goes wrong always have a stock rom on your PC and remember to read on how to flash with Odin (Samsung tool to flash roms and kernel's)
Once u start flashing there is no turning back...it's that much fun

I am having trouble upgrading my Samsung galaxy S GT-I9000 so I hope you guys could help me with this. I've been reading so many threads regarding to flashing but I don't understand any of it. So here it is..
My current firmware version is 2.2
Baseband version: I9000JXJPE
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #91
Build number: FROYO.JPJPG
Where can I get the update.zip for 2.2? (if i'm not mistaken this is the CWM right?)
Is it okay if I flash my phone with this? DarkyRom? This--> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=814091
I want to flash to darkyrom 10.2 but I'm afraid my firmware version is not compatible or what.
How can I upgrade my 2.2 to Gingerbread?
Sorry for so many questions.
Hey guys,
This is my first post on these forums. I have a stock Vodafone NZ Samsung Galaxy S i9000 and am wanting to root it and install CM9 on it but have no experience whatsoever with this sort of thing so a bit of help would be greatly appreciated.
I found this post on rooting a Galaxy S but had trouble trying to understand exactly what I was supposed to do and which file to download.
I'm hoping someone here wouldn't mind directing me to the right files and explain what exactly I'm supposed to do to root my phone and then install the new ROM?

Visit My Android Collections link below and download the Ezbase Recovery kit with semaphore kernel and flash it to upgrade your phone to GB 2.3.6 and have CWM, than visit the developer page of CM ROM you have decided top flash and follow the instructions given therein to upgrade
I've been researching on how to root my phone and get Clockwork Mod or Rom Manager installed so I can install a custom ROM. I can't seem to find anything compatible. Please help!

Thank you very much.
The first link worked for rooting the phone and I managed to figure out how to install CM10 on it
Cheers:highfive:
Hi there! I apologise for the question as you probably get this a lot.
I can't find a clear and concise tutorial (that i can understand) on how to root my Galaxy S and its specific version.
Can anyone help me and point me in the right direction?
I am not entirely new to rooting as i've rooted my GS3 fairly easily, this however seems more difficult.
Here are my phones information:
Firmware Version 2.1-update1
Baseband Version I9000XXJM1
Kernel Version 2.6.29 [email protected] #2
Build number ECLAIR.I9000XXJM1
I understand I have to download a kernel of some kind so I can root in within ODIN...however there are so many CF versions I am really stuck
Thankyou in advance and a quick reply would truly be appreciated. Thankyou!
Ok...You are still in froyo so you have to update to gingerbread 2.3.3 then you have to install the "JW4_JW4_JW4" value pack that will update your i9000 to 2.3.6, only now you can flash a rooted kernel..

FYI 2.1 is eclair, not froyo. That's 2.2
Rooting Eclair is easy as hell. Just use the one click root tool.
