Hello all,
Okay, I'm a total noob when it comes to the LG Revo. I had my D1 and my DX and I worked it all out and had it setup and rooted just fine, but the LG and this OTA ZV8 update is killing me. So here is my dilemma.
First I don't get the lingo...clockworkmod (CWM) = boot screen/command screen, right...like dos kinda?
Second, flash? What is that is that where I hold power + volume down button to get boot/command/dos screen, when phone is powered off?
Okay now for the good crazy stuff. I had my Revo rooted, got the update, failed. Figured it was because the root was on it, so unrooted to push OTA update, still fail...is still epic failing and is getting on my last nerve, so badly I'm ready to throw my phone...and I've never wanted to that to my babies (phones). Anyway, unrooted still failing update.
Was on another forum where very nice guy gave me stuff to do, tried it however, when did the "Flash" it only wiped my phone and put it back to stock. Had phone plugged into computer via USB...tried to follow http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583023 but after phone wiped didn't know what to do. This is where I am now, with a wiped phone and this has been since 9am pdt.
Hope this all makes since. Can anyone offer any help here? I'd like to get my Revo back up and running and I'd really love to get my apps back on so I can function.
Thanks for understanding and your help is greatly appreciated. Oh, please talk to me like I'm a noob lol...Or I won't get it, I promise I will do my best and try not to sound as dumb as I feel right now.
Thanks &
*Edit* I forgot, I read somewhere that in order to use CWM the phone had to be rooted so I couldn't've flashed to it anyway? Is that wrong information?
The reason why your update fails is because you haven't taken off CWM I'd point you in the right direction but I'm doing this by phone

Thanks Gel, at your earliest convenience will you please walk me through it? I'd really appreciate it and would be a very happy camper if you get back functioning.
I wish I could explain how I did it. I thought I updates to V8 with no root and was really mad but then somehow I had root.

So still not fully functioning. Gonna just reinstall my apps and let the update keep trying to push. Have a great day all.

Guess what...phone has not tried to update since I wiped it. Running fine though. Uh...have only tried to push update manually once. Had guy here try to help me but we got lost with the zv7 it wouldn't let me upload from the site linked here. As I'm running 2.2.2. He said I needed to be on zv7 before I could get to zv7. Anyway all is okay so far will try this again this weekend.

Ok... here is what you do to get root. Follow that thread and install the v8 tot.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1337386
After the lgpnst program completes (around 20min) successfully you will be running the latest v8.
Once that is done. Connect your phone set the usb to internet and turn on debugging from the settings | applications | development section and then follow this the instructions in this thread. Unzip the file and run the bat file and follow the directions in the command window.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1621625
As for clockwork mod (which a basically is a program that can be run before android loads that allows you to make low level system changes, when you make these changes it is called flashing) I am not running it on my phone but I am sure someone here can tell you how to put it on your phone running v8 rooted.
Here are the instructions for getting ClockWork Mod onto your phone with rooted v8 (located at the bottom of page 2)

Hello, followed the instructions all the way to:
10. Right Click "VS910.dll" and click on Install/Register.
Note: DLL WILL NOT INSTALL UNLESS COMPONENTS AND GENERICMODELS PLUG-INS ARE INSTALLED!!!
IF YOU CANNOT INSTALL IT ON A RIGHT CLICK GO TO "C:\Windows\System32" and drag the VS910.dll on "regsvr32" and it should install.
It won't VS910.dll dragged onto "regsvr32" will NOT install. I get an error message:

Typed "." with both just the dot and then again with the quotes and nothing. According to my computer the file is on C:\ but I can't find it in LGNPST there. And it's not in any of my other files that I can see.
I think I did something wrong...But I followed it exact. Becoming very disconcerted with my Revo.
At that point you should explore into the directory where you put the .tot file. Copy the location, go back to the LG tool and paste the directory location. It should allow you to open the file. If you have any problems please respond.

Ok, so moving along on this lol...I've followed all of the instructions. Downloaded, uploaded, installed, copied, pasted, created new folders, dragged and dropped everything it told me to do.
This file "C:/VS910ZV4_04.S4_04.P58008.R5.user.tot.bin" is only showing up in my computer as a shortcut, not as a file. This is after researching and finding it on my computer. Did I do something wrong? Am I downloading an incorrect file? I'm not sure where this particular file came from as, everything else is as described in the "how to" threat.
I think I may have figured it out. Will get back to you. Thanks again!!
*EDIT* Was told to use VS910ZV7_10.S7_10.P58008.R5.tot ... did...it updated...now to see what to do next. That other was was ZV4 and the one I just updated to is ZV7... woot wish me luck...manually pushed zv8 update...no failure this time...it was successful. yay!

Now for this part. It's not rooting. And yes, I have ZV8 on my phone, now. I have a root-required app on my phone just to test to see if it's rooted and it keeps saying that it is not. I'm such a noob, I know. Sorry :-/

Hi,
Complete noob here!!
So I had rooted 2.1 stock and update to Froyo leak first one it came out I believe (System Version 2.3.9.MB810), and lost root.
I would like to upgrade to the new 2.3.13 Froyo, but I'm not sure if I could just follow the instructions on the threads because they are about going from 2.1 rooted to new Froyo.
Is there a difference in the installation? Can I recover root? Do I loose everything I have? I have Titanium root but since I lost root it hasn't been backing up I believe
I been looking at both of these threads lately, sound like the instructions might work (again complete noob , so not sure)
thread: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=764304
thread: androidforums.com/droid-x-all-things-root/174152-brand-new-froyo-2-3-13-a.html
Thanks for your help in advance.
Update
I used the instructions on the thread on here and ran into an error when running the update zip
Says Error: Status 2
What can I do?
Neither will work without root... follow D2 root instructions.
So follow the instructions on this thread
forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7838000&postcount=1
And then just follow the instructions as they are on the new froyo threads
Thanks!!!
Yes, that should work. Wait for someone else to confirm this though, unless you are adventurous.
rage-against-the-cage is a 2.2 exploit, the way I understand. It isn't specific to the D2, but as I said, wait on someone to confirm. I don't know a whole lot about this. More of a lurker than a do-er.
I saw it a while ago and thought about doing it, I was waiting for another 1-click-root type of thing, so I couldn't mess up. I'll wait and see if someone confirms it then.
I used this method to regain root after the 2.3.13 update and it worked. If you know how to use adb its pretty easy.

Try turning usb debugging off (System settings > Applications > Development).
And then connect in PC mode again and see if the phone installs itself.
Try the other modes, mine work in mass storage.

Good Evening everyone. As the title says i need help.
I have had my phone rooted fine in the past but went ahead and did the .893 update wich is where something went screwy. It booted fine after doing the .893 update however after doing a reboot it would not boot. just stayed at the M dual core. I think something went wrong on the update because all my apps were still there when it did boot.
So i tried doing a return to stock using the RSD lite program..that fails right away no matter what i do.
So i went and tried to do the One click fastboot system restore program.
Now when i did that the INFOpreflash validation failure showed up however everything else went through fine. the phone reboots and everything works just not great the signal strenght is very low.
The version that got installed says 5.5.1_84_dbn-55. So i try Pete's root method and it go thru to step 2 but then fails at rebooting for the second time saying it could not get root via local.prop.
If anyone could please help me get back to normal stock it would be much appreciated
Not to be a jerk, but did you READ any thread on here before you did this??
1) Unless you used p3droid's forever root method, you're done. No root.
2) Wrong forum - should be in general
3) RSD won't work.
4) I don't feel sorry for you. You should have researched more. If you would have taken the time to read a few threads, you would have known the answers before you did this.

There is also some very seriously contradictory info in the OP. While castigating him for being a noob did anyone notice that he claims to have flashed the update and then reverted to stock?
This is impossible from our current understanding of how the bootloader works.
More information about the exact steps followed and the exact results at each step would be very helpful to try and figure out what really happened.
OK?
Less heat and more light...
I just got a little frustrated, as every time I open XDA today I see the same/similar post.
Cell - I didn't see in the OP where he said he flashed back. I read where he tried, but I didn't see any mention of 896.
I could not get the .893 to boot after a reboot so i used the One-click fastboot restore and root which brought back to stock but also made it so that i can no longer root. It fails every time on the local.prop process saying adb could not get root access. I did try the stock recovery and still no go. I also tried the adb fix that was posted to remove local.prop but when i tried it says file not found. I have rooted and messed with many phones in the past from Droid 1 and up and this is the first problem that i couldnt solve so as i said any help would be appreciated.
Oh and i have also tried to unroot it..it also fails at adb not being able to gain root access

This isn't going to help your current issue, but how long did you let it sit (after installing 893) before you decided it wouldn't boot? I ask because the guy who was ballsy enough to do it here said the first boot takes about 7 minutes.
EDIT: Nevermind - mine booted in 2 minutes.
it was fully booted and operational. i just did a power off after a half our or so and power back on and it just sat at the M dual core screen...i dont know why it would not boot. I tried pulling the battery. taking out the sim card and all that. the only thing that would get it booted was the One-click fastboot restore and root program so I at least have a working phone but for some reason the signal strength is horrible

Try to do the fastboot again and root it through there. Or, if you did that already (root in fastboot restore) try rooting afterwards.
Might sound dumb, but did you forget to save the chmod changes to the build file? It's a fairly easy mistake and it is the only thing I can think of.

Hello. First off, I want to thank everyone for their hard work here. I have followed many tutorials and have seen many great conversations to keep noobs like me from making mistakes when trying to delve into the world of ROMs and rooting. However, I did encounter some troubles while installing the ICS rom onto my bionic (running on .902). I think I may have accidentally overwritten the stock rom backup that I made with safe strap or whatever that app is (I'm sorry, like I said, I am a complete noob). Is there a way to restore the phone to stock, as in before I even touched it, even if the backup I made during the process is gone by my mistake?
I'm sure this has been asked a million times, and if so, I apologize, but as I noob, I have no idea how to even begin to search for clues. Walkthroughs would be nice, but links are fine too, since I'm sure there are plenty of the same questions out there.

Yeah I'm sure you can.
Get on stock .902(here).
Install SafeStrap.
Backup Stock Rom by Toggling "SafeMode"
Boot up ICS.
When you want to go to Stock .902 undo "SafeMode" and the Stock Rom should boot up on Reboot

Enable Usb Debugging and Unknown Sources. Download Motohelper drivers
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk
I'm sorry I probably should be a little more specific. I have both of those enabled and I do have the Motohelper drivers installed. I am following the steps here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22758211#post22758211
On step 8, I do not see a file named FXZ or a file with that extension, but I figured it was the file with the name that the zip file had. I chose that file after clicking "..." and hit Start, but it doesn't do anything.
I am running the ICS version cyanogen mod 9.0.0-rc0-droid_bionic-kang build number alpha_2012_02_10
I already have SafeStrap installed (used that to get this rom on). So, looks like I'm stuck on or around step 8 from the other steps posted. Once I can get past that, I can continue with the steps posted in this thread!
Thanks!!!

SafeStrap disables ADB(that Im sure of) which will not let RSD run(im pretty sure) you have to select the xml file
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk
Yes, the XML file is the one I select. However, it will not do anything in RSD. Is there anything I can do to enable ADB in order to let RSD run?
Update: I found a way to do it. I think things are going okay so far. Looks like it is installing. If it does install successfully, I would like to do everything perfectly right going forward.
So, after this is installed, I will want to:
1. Get root access again using Motofail? I assume doing this return to stock will remove root access.
2. Install SafeStrap. Once that is done, I toggle Safemode to enabled, which will backup my stock rom and protect it from being overwritten?
3. Then, flash ICS from the zip files on my sdcard?

Update: I found a way to do it. I think things are going okay so far. Looks like it is installing. If it does install successfully, I would like to do everything perfectly right going forward.
So, after this is installed, I will want to:
1. Get root access again using Motofail? I assume doing this return to stock will remove root access.
2. Install SafeStrap. Once that is done, I toggle Safemode to enabled, which will backup my stock rom and protect it from being overwritten?
3. Then, flash ICS from the zip files on my sdcard?

Alrighty Boys and Girls!!! I have tried to make this as easy as possible for what we have!!! First and foremost, this will NOT root if you are already on ZV8!!!
Prerequisites
Pretty easy, you need ANY form of ZV7 (By any that includes stock, GingerVolt, Blitzkrieg, self modified, whatever) and CWM. Also, if you have frozen the software update app, make sure you unfreeze before anything!!!
1) Download this file: http://d-h.st/MeH
2) Flash that file in cwm
3) Reboot into the OS
4) Update to ZV8
That is it!!! You are now rooted stock ZV8!!!!
After gaining root on ZV8 you can get CWM recovery by running this ZV8CWMRecovery.bat: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/54501789/Revo/ZV8CWMRecovery.zip
There you have it!!! That was easy now wasn't it!
You are AMAZING! Very nice mtmichelson.
I'll give it a shot. What do we do if the OTA fails??
Edit:
OTA failed. Lol
Edit: fixed my market, broke my swype.
Edit: broke all sound and vibration. At work, can't take time to troubleshoot. Later, hopefully.
EDIT!
Holy effing facepalm, batman! I just realized what was killing the OTA.. And while I certainly feel like an idiot, I can assure you I am truly not one. Also, I refuse to disclose where I screwed the pooch.
Updating to zv8 now..
Edit:
Yup. It works. Ha!
Still not sound/vibration though. No worries, Im going to flash a clean zv7 and do this again in a bit.
I really should have waited until I was home to mess with this. Thanks MT!

This method does still take advantage of the local.prop file. Delete it from /data and reboot and you will have sound back. If you run the .bat it will remove it for you though.

Awesome job MT! This was a life saver for me since my USB connection doesn't work! I was hoping the ZV8 upgrade might fix it, but it didn't. Oh well, at least now I'm on ZV8 with Break Out 1.1!!!
I had to enter the commands in Terminal Emulator by hand, which sucked. But hey, I got there...
sweet will try this later. i take it this means you dont want that update file anymore?

Yeah, that's what I figured. And since I was going to go fresh install after work I wasn't concerned. Thanks for helping a guy out, even if you did laugh at my previous post. It's cool, you can admit it. ; )

I know I am a complete noob for asking this, but what is the best way to execute the .bat file (.zip file, since we cannot install it with CWM)? I know I can adb, though I am foggy on the details since it has been a while. What are the steps that need to be taken to make sure that i direct terminal correctly towards my phone. I just want to make sure I do it right the first time. Thanks in advance!
Another dumb question again here. sorry, but....
To run the CWM Recovery bat file, I need to be hooked up to the computer, right?
I have done the update to ZV8, but I am at work and have no cable to connect to the computer. Did the first part through WIFI to get the files.
There is no way to run the bat file off the phone itself is there?

Yes you need to be hooked to a computer and I assume you need to be in USB debugging mode and internet connection only. I felt bad because no one else answered.
As to pushing the file through ADB I have no idea I usually just use the simple connect and run by the means of MT's programz since they do it all for you anyways. Still denating to update though because I love my blitzkrieg...

Thanks.
I figured as much. Will have to wait til after work then. It's been so long since I have done any updating on this phone, that I am forgetting how to do things.
I spend most of my time putting new Roms and stuff on my Nook Color and this stuff is new again to me.
Thanx a million
Will the phone info still say v7 after this. I flashed, all went fine, rebooted, all still good. Checked root, got it, but then checked phone info and it still says v7. I don't really care if it says v7 or what ever as long as I know it's v8. Thanks for all your time and effort dedicated to all of us Revo users MT.

You have to go into your settings and update now. The file doesn't upgrade for you.
Okay, so now we have 3 Atrix HD's in the house and except for the unremoveable battery thing, and the short "battery life" when actively using it, I'd say we pretty much love them. However, I decided to remove some apps, etc. and managed to get my messages, camera and gallery to the "not working" and basically non-existent point. Now on startup I'm getting the Android is Updating message with the never-ending swirl of Starting Apps... I'm positive I've waited long enough as I set it down and went back to bed just to wake up and still see it.
Info - phone IS rooted
running the "jellybean" update
Unfortuanately a couple weeks ago, I UNCHECKED the sync photots for both facebook and gmail, so there are pictures I really don't want to lose.....
I'm definitely not a "pro" like lots of them up here, but am capable of following directions. I'm pretty sure I have to "unroot" my phone via USB/SD card through my laptop....Any help would be greatly appreciated... and the more specific the directions the better!! :cyclops: LOL... Thanks so much.

Sounds like you deleted a critical OS file. You need to flash back to stock again. Is your boot loader locked or unlocked?
Don't remeber...

I've been trying and I've fallowed everything to the T but everytime it says it falls.
I'm not sure...I have used it before and was able to restore...are you sure it's not a hardware issue?

Okay, here's where we're at.... it is no longer frozen on that screen and goes thru the setup w/ my gmail, etc.... but then I have a black screen (except for the top row icons...). I can pull down the settings menu and see everything there, but I have no "homescreen"....It's black. It seems like we're in the right direction and I know it's not dead. Anything??
Also wanted to thank you for the help. This place is ALWAYS amazing....
Hey, my son and I are wondering since it's already running 4.1.1 and we can't downgrade, what about flashing a custom rom? Will that flash a totally complete, full home page and everything?? Just a thought.
While trying to search for answers I came across a "xoom forums??" post with a tablet that was doing exactly the same thing....multiple people had that problem, but doesn't seem to have been answered...... not sure if I'm suppose to post links to that or not, but at least I know I'm not alone.....
If you're rooted, than I'm assuming ADB debugging is on. You should be able to unlock your boot loader and load CWM recovery. From there you can wipe cache and dalvik cache. If that doesn't help, you can reflash a stock ROM zip from Skeevys thread. Flashing a zip won't touch your SD card
There is official 4.1.1 available...you can try flashing that...you dont need to downgrade.
Okay, my son installed safetystrap (whatever that is...lol) and when you click Operating system, it says "there is no operating system installed are you sure you want to reboot????
Is this fixable?
Note: We have two other identical Atrix HD's in the house if that helps for any reason.....
Well that's what we are trying to figure out is how to install OS...Lol..
Try install system using fastboot... Look for skeevedudes guide...its in this forum somewhere...

LOL....okay, so do yoiu see why my son says I'm not "ALLOWED" to have a rooted phone if this happens again..... Guess I was just glad to SEE it written out, so that it's a little more def what's going on - but I'm sure everyone up here (except me) already knew that!!!
He's not around today, so my phone is just "sitting" saying "creating rom slot" but never gets off that screen. The good thing is that we can see it's actually charging and we weren't sure before....... Does this sound like something that will eventually be repairable??
You have a soft brick...yes it is fixable...
Okay, thought I had already posted this before but I guess I never hit the submit ....
Before safety strap was installed, we could get the phone (minus the homescreen and os) to come on....the settings, wifi etc.....No we can't seem to get to that point with the safetystrap on. It just goes completely blank and won't let safestrap connect to the computer via usb.
Apparently there is also no way to remove SS without an opperating system. This doesn't sound promising.....ugggg..... I so want my phone back.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
OK dude. Follow my instructions.
Hold down power and both volume buttons all at once until the phone screen turns black, then continue holding the volume buttons. You will get a menu. Go to AP fastboot mode using the volume down button, select it with the volume up button. Plug your phone into your computer with a data cable. Download RSD lite and the MOTOROLA drivers from the MOTOROLA website. Install both. Download the 4.1.1 sbf file for your phone, there is a thread for it here in the AHD forum. Its a zip file, extract it to your desktop. Open RSD lite, click the browse for file button, select the XML file inside the folder you just unzipped. Hit flash. If you get any errors, let me know I'll send you a different XML file with the getvar lines removed.
Okay, will get it started..... Thanks so much. My son has been working on this for hours and hours. You have no idea how much I appreciate this place and everyone who helps out!! You guys rock! Will let you know what we get.

RSD Lite connected
