I am trying to add a ringtone, Pixie Dust. I downloaded the mp3. Placed it in the ringtone folder. Yet, it does not show up in settings > sounds. It seems that NONE of the mp3s in the ringtones folder will show up in sounds. They do play....
Ok, it was simple, once I figured it out. Simply go into es file explorer. Locate the .ogg file in download. Cut. Go to notifications and paste.

Hi all,
I want to use my own MP3-Files for alarm clock/ ringtone, however, I cannot select the files for these applications.
As far as I can see, there are three music-folders on the device, \MUSIC, \WINDOWS\HTCTone and \WINDOWS\Rings.
Wherever I put my MP3-files, I cannot select them in the browser of the alarm clock/ ringtone app. Are there any additional registry entries needed? Or doesn't the TD2 accept MP3s for these purposes?
Thanks in advance,
Caroline
You can place MP3 files for ringtones into My Documents / My Ringtones and files for sms notification must be in windows folder. I tried to use mp3 files for alarm clock but without avail. I think it must be wav or wma file in windows directory also.
Edit: I've tried it and it must be .wav file.

hi bro, so u put the *.wav file into which folder? thanks.
Hi, .wav file I put into windows folder and it's displayed in Ringtone menu.
On Polaris it's in
Device\Application Data\Sounds\
From there mp3s are working for SMS/MMS notifications... Reminders too...
for ringtone u can put it in storage card, must be at the main page, not inside any folder
This could be easily done on my previous phones, how can I do it on my Xperia now?
Copy the file to your Device\windows folder or Storage Card\My documents folder. then change your ringtone in Settings\Personal\Sounds and Notifications
or you can click and hold down on the selected mp3, wait til menu appears and set as ringtone, simple
Is it possible to set an mp3/wav file as SMS ringtone?
Didn't find a way.
Yes, it is. Go to Settings>Sound>Notification ringtone. It will prompt you to pick from the stock ringtones or music. This works for mp3. I haven't tried wav.
Alternately, you can create a /Media/Audio/Notifications folder/file structure on your SD card and throw in your custom or edited music files. The file will show up in the stock ringtones list.
well, how do i set a custom mp3 as a notification please?
create a file called media on your sd card, inside put a folder called ringtones. Put mp3 file inside, should show up in ringtone list, mine does...

I have already done similar with a ringtone but i want to customise the notification sound.
I need longer alert sounds on the built in calendar app so that I can hear them. I have tried adding mp3 files to /system/media/audio/notifications but the folder won't accept them. I cannot find any way of calling sounds from another folder (eg the external card) within the app itself. How can I do this?
You need to be rooted to be able to copy files to the /system (and thus /system/media) folder.
If you are rooted, convert your mp3 to an ogg file with any audio converter and put the file in /system/media/audio/notifications and see if you can select it as your notification sound in the calendar.
Thanks, but I'm not rooted and wouldn't want to attempt to go down that road as I totally don't understand it.
Can anyone help me put in some useable alert tones please?
