[Q] GPS is not working at all - any help ?

Hey Guys !
First of all i m in love with my sgs, i m currently using darkys 7.7 awesome rom - but there is just one thing that drives me crazy, yes, u guessed right, it is the gps
just some facts what i did but it is still not working, it did not work fine with 2.1 but i could get a lock which took 3 - 4 mins -> then i upgraded to darkys 4.xx same problem and since then it got worse and worse and now i just find 2, maximal 3 satellits but i cant get a lock even if i w8 for 15 mins .. and yes i did a complete clean install of darkys rom etc. + wipe chaches etc.
- tried the gps fix in sgs tools
- tried the app fasterfix
- tried the app gps booster
- tried the app gps status + deleted all the a gps data
- let my phone for 20 mins on a field with clear view to the sky and gps
I searched days and nights what could be wrong .. and this issue makes me crazy
The last thing i can think of is that i try to correct the gps hardware like KWKSLVR posted here but its kinda risky .. so maybe anyone else can help me ?
thanks in advance for your answers
Hi,
I'm having the same issue,
tried different solutions without any luck
I wouldn't go as far as touching the hardware...
have you tried this rom?: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831038 (it's the only one on which the gps works decently for me)
Well the hardware trick does not seem so difficult but well, i wont do it anyway ..
No i did not try this rom yet, but i ll give it a try and post the results
try setting to cold start..and clear gps data, and leave outside for 20 minutes. there is a known bug that if set on hot start and the position is too far off from last it sometimes doesnt ever get a fix.
If you upgrade to a specific ROM and get a new problem does that not tell you where the problem is .

The same for me. A couple days ago i found this video:
The owner said that he return it and received a new one because it had a hardware problem.
Next days, when I have time, I will go to a service centre to see what is wrong with my phone.
yesterday, i flashed xxjpx_modem and performance of my gps improved s
that video is bull.. you cannot compare like that.. i can take any galaxy s set it to hot start then fly accross the county and it will behave that way..

[APP] 50% time without a signal fix - 2/2/2011

App: xtr50fix Android 2.1 only.
I made this app to try to help those with the 50% time without a signal issue. Learn more here ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-647980.html)
The one trick that works with most 2.1 Eris ROMs is the airplane mode trick. All you do is put your phone in airplane mode for a little bit and turn airplane mode off and it fixes the issue.
Basically all this app does is upon boot, puts the phone in airplane mode then waits 12 seconds and then turns off airplane mode. Finally, it kills the service so it won't run again until the next reboot.
I know it's not elegant or anything, but it seems to do the job. There are no settings and there is no icon for the app. Just install the .apk and reboot your device.
Please let me know any feedback you might have... good or bad. Thanks!
2/2/2011 - v1 - Initial build. Seems to work fine on xtrROM and xtrSense.
Added some checks to make sure you are not already in airplane mode upon boot.
Sounds interesting, thanks! I just went back to xtrSENSE so this is perfect timing.
has anyone tried this app yet?

Yes, that works as well, however, you still have to do that every time you boot up.
This seems to have worked on my optimus v. Thanks for your efforts!
Prior to this, I was constantly getting the 50% without signal mess...
Works perfectly on my Optimus V. Thanks so much for developing and sharing this fix.
Thank you lotus22! This has been included in the latest release of xtrSENSE http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726467

I'm only replying so you don't feel ignored. No idea, myself, but can you do a nandroid on the X and try flashing this to see? You might be the first person to try, so you can let us know if it works!
For the record to everyone, this seems to work just fine with Gingerbread ROMs, too.

Lol appreciate it! Unfortunately it didn't put my phone in airplane mode when it booted back up.
I don't have a Droid X to test on... however, I did compile the program with the Android 2.1 SDK so it should work on anything with >= Android 2.1
Note: Don't flash this program. Just install the .apk like normal.

Thanks Zach! Glad you included it. I bought a Motorola Droid off my friend so I don't use an Eris for my main phone anymore. I'll have to test this out on my mom's Eris which uses xtrSense!
This app fixes the 3G drops with my Optimus V. If anyone is looking for automated reboots in order to automatically apply this fix every day, I use Phone Prioritizer.
Thanks for this. Hopefully my battery life increases.
Can someone tell me how to install the fix on an Optimus V? I tried downloading it directly and I get a message saying it is unsupported. I also tried installing it from gmail and it didn't work either.
I am about ready to return the phone if I can't get it to work.
Thanks,
Paul
Make sure in settings->Applications-> you turn on Installing Apps from Unknown Sources.
TWS/data drop fix
The fix50 app did fix the TWS problem on my optimus but didn't seem to do much for the battery or fix the data drop issue. I ran across this fix posted by greenmonster on an Android Central forum (http://forum.androidcentral.com/optimus-v/57943-excessive-battery-drain-even-standby.html):
To fix the issue, dial *#*#4636#*#* and it will load the testing screen. You do not have to press call. Select phone information.
My understanding of the bug is that even though the preferred network is set to "CDMA auto (PRL)", it is actually set to "GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)" because of a display bug.
The fix is to press Menu and then "Select radio band". The process will then force close. Go back to Phone info and select "CDMA only" and then select "CDMA auto (PRL)".

I'm going on day 3 now (no reboot) and have had a noticeable increase in battery life an no data drops that require an airplane mode toggle. Any way this might be made/incorporated into an app similar to fix50?
Data drop/TWS update
So I finally had a hiccup about 9:00 last night that caused a data drop- it was right after I lost a phone call & during a pretty serious storm, so don't know if that affected anything. I'm still pretty happy- I've never gone more than three or four hours without having to do the airplane mode toggle due to data drops- 60 hours without a drop is encouraging!
Time without signal also stayed in the single digits...
Installed and working on my Captivate running Froyo. Good stuff.

WiFi strength, range, and throughput

Rate this thread to express how you think the Sony Xperia Z5's Wifi performs. A higher rating indicates that it has excellent range, throughput, and signal strength. Like when you're taking a dump in the bedroom upstairs, do your videos have to buffer or do they come through without interruption?
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
problem wifi
i have a router of wimax " bm626 hauwei"
z5 dual connect with it but no internet.
instead i have z3 compact at same time
z3 it connect with it with internet.
why
any one can help?
Did you tried to reset router to default settings? Did you tried to update router to newest firmware?
Thank you for providing this information so that we know how to protect their eyes
Well all I can say is I have no issues with signal strength at all. When my WiFi works fine, the throughput is good too. The problem I am having with mine (on both 6.0 and 6.0.1) is that I lose my WiFi connection every few minutes. What happens is I'll be browsing online and after a few minutes nothing is loading but the signal indicator in the status bar shows a full signal. I have to turn off WiFi on my device, then turn it back on in order for it to keep going. Very irritating. I have many wireless devices in my house, this is the only one doing it. Oh and I've tried using 2 different routers, no change.
Anyone else experience this?
No issue with mine, reaching as fast as 400Mbps near the router. Signal strength works as well as the Intel PCI-E wireless AC7260 cards in my house, so that's pretty impressive. Overall pretty satisfied with the WiFi performance.
I'm using a Netgear Nighthawk R7000 router with a fibre connection, so I guess that's something.

Im having the exact same issue as you... the connection to the WiFi itself doesnt disconnect.. But what is actually happening is that the Device itself seems like it is putting itself in to this wifi sleep state briefly for a minute or 2 and then just suddenly comes back to it's senses (suddenly wakes up and starts sending/receiving data packets which then resumes loading like normal.. and it does this randomly at nonspecific times..
It could happen within a minute or 2 of using the wifi... or sometimes even after an hour or so of streaming (sometimes within 5 minutes of streaming)....
***NOTE***
My Xperia Z5 has custom ROM and Kernel and is rooted with SuperSU with Xposed and busybox installed running Latest Marshmallow 6.0.1 (.224) Firmware..
THEN I suddenly decided **** this, I'm actually going to fix this shi* lol ( you know that moment when you just had enough and finally decide to bother doing something about it, ).. that's the moment I had..
Anyway to keep this simple...
After several hours of troubleshooting, testing and diagnosing , and trying to narrow down, isolate and fix the damn problem causing it to happen, I'm not sure 100% just yet but I may have found the problem and the fix to this IF the wifi "Hanging" doesnt occur anymore after doing some minor editing of the system files. (Only able to do with a rooted device) .
I will inform you guys with my results in a couple of days and hopefully the outcome is good news .. IF not, ill just have to keep trying and if all else fails ill just factory reset the device since getting everything back on to my phone will only take 30 minutes..
Peace!

Awesome, keep us posted if you find anything! I'm looking into it at my end as well FWIW, I have factory reset and even re-flashed the firmware multiple times with no improvement. Just trying to save you time and effort into reinstalling and stuff
Sweet as bro, thanks for the heads up.. Well so far I haven't noticed any dropouts of any sort as of yet. But I still have some things that I am testing.. Will update soon..
Sent from my Sony E6653 using XDA Labs
Well.. Here i am.. And unfortunately the issues still persisted.. To top it off, my phone decided to start having random moments where it would just restart on its on, even when left idle for a non specific amount of time. Anywhere between 1 and 3hrs.. I started getting really ticked off with it, so I decided to factory reset the device and install the latest (stock) firmware .253 from Sony using xperifirm and flashtool.. Flashed successfuly, applied latest andropluskernel, applied root, and xposed and also debloated the rom.. so far its been little over 12 hours and i havent really noticed any WiFi issues apart from the WiFi at some point tends to almost seem like it lags and slows down briefly and then just loads.. Not as bad as it was on previous firmware .225 .. Overall performance and battery on device seems pretty decent, without Amplify, without disabling any services or any system tweaks of any kind...
So now that I am onthe new firmware and rooted etc... I will as of this point specifically going to dedicate my diagnosticsand testing solely on the WiFi issue and see if I can find a permanent fix this time on the latest firmware..
Will report back soon.. Hopefully what I have in mind works..
(buffer size, WiFi chip power tweaks, WiFi sleep timers, etc etc etc)

Sorry its been a while..
Just been busy..
So far on the recently updated firmware (.253), I have not had any wifi issues as of yet. And it has been fine since my last post...
One thing ive noticed though is that by default the wifi scanning frequency is set to 180seconds by default.. If you can, try and change the interval between wifi scanning and see if that helps at all..

No worries at all, I have too which is why I didn't see your reply for almost a week.
I haven't updated yet to .253, not sure how to go about it so I have been delaying. I've been poking around the forums here trying to see if anyone posted any instructions on how to upgrade if you are rooted on .224. In the mean time I will keep looking through logs and I'll try the WiFi scanning.
The crappy part is I recently turned on the fingerprint reader and I am also experiencing issues with that. Once or twice a day I get "fingerprint hardware not available" and have to reboot my phone to get that functionality back. I see others with the issue and it happens regardless of firmware so it's probably a marshmallow issue.

All good..
Well you're gonna have to download the firmware from xperifirm and flash it via flashtool.. And since you're rooted with 224, you will have to download the new andropluskernel v34 for 253 firmware.. And TWRP custom recovery 3.0.2. specifically for the Xperia Z5. If you need help on locating the files/guides, I can link them to you, since we aren't in the right thread for this topic .. Just shoot me a PM if you need to and ill happily point you in the right direction.

Pixel 4XL Face Unlock

I couldnt find a solution or the same issue on the forums.. so here is my problem:
Pixel 4XLs face unlock is so bad. After a few unlocks the phone says "clean sensor". Rebooting usually does the job for a few hours.
I browsed the web and this error is common on so many Pixel 4/XL devices.
Is there a solution to this? Any CustomROM or Kernel solving this issue?
I am on stock kernel/ROM and wiped the whole thing before freshly installing Android 12.
Thanks!

Probably a hardware issue. Find one of the many sensor testing apps and run it several times to identify a weak or defective sensor. There is not going to be a cleaning or software solution. If you do find a sensor not working 100%, do another clean wipe and test again before looking into replacement. Normally the FR on the P4 is extremely fast and accurate.
Thanks @v12xke for your reply!
To be honest, i dont think it's an hardware issue. See this link on the google forums: https://support.google.com/pixelpho...ing-the-dreaded-clean-the-top-of-screen?hl=en
There are countless other posts and threads about this error.
I should mention that the issue was there from time to time on Android 11 too. Looking at googles changelog, they tried to "fix" the issue in their updates. Nothing helped yet.

Google forums are a joke, this issue has *nothing* to do with Android11 or 12... and no, there is not a fix coming from anywhere. You're going to have to fix it yourself. Have you removed and re-added your facial profile at least once or twice since this started? Have you been able to replicate in safe mode? How can you know it is not a hardware issue if you don't test the sensors? It's just one step in the process of elimination. Try these and you may discover something you didn't know before.

How can you say google forums are a joke when literally hundreds of people are having the same issue? I dont want to believe that we all have hardware issues. Otherwise the hardware would be some hot garbage.
I removed and readded the face multiple times already.
I booted into safe mode. It works there. But like I said, it also works after a normal reboot for some hours/days before it needs a reboot again.
I also did test the sensors, no errors there. However my next step is to run the test when the error is present.
Any specific suggestion on which app I should use for testing?
Thanks again.
@Matzeus
No specific sensor app. Facial data is stored on the Titan M chip, and the only way I know to wipe that facial data and potentially fix it is by doing a factory reset from the stock recovery. Fastboot flashing will not wipe the Titan data and even from recovery is only a partial wipe. If you've ever had TWRP installed, there is a looong thread on broken face lock there. FDR from both recovery and setup would be my next suggestion.
@v12xke
In the past i ran the factory default from the system settings, didnt help. After that I used Googles "Android Flash Tool", which didnt help either.
Additional information: the device has never been rooted or anything. Always been on stock firmware.
Anyways, small update on the whole thing:
The issue occured again, I ran the app "Soli Sandbox" and it simply didnt do anything. So far so good.
After closing Soli Sandbox and clicking on the face unlock option in the system settings, magically everything worked properly again. Even without a reboot.
I am not sure what solved the error now..
I guess its safe to say, that all motion gestures stop working once the problem occurs.
Will keep this thread updated as I find out more.
I've had absolutely no major issues with my Pixel 4 XL's face unlock. I've upgraded from android 11 to 12 and still working perfectly. Yeah, i get the odd clean the bar notification but goes away after a bit and it just works.

It's uncannily good. I keep the phone upright in a cradle by my PC so I can monitor it, and all I have to do is turn my head to peek, and it unlocks every time. It's pretty amazing. I've never had a problem with it.

Thanks. I've got a new 4 XL that definitely has this issue but I didn't spend much time with it before updating to 12 from 10. It's a real PITA. I've never installed a custom ROM, but thinking I may need to do what you've done as this is irritating af.
@puzzlefighter
Just go for it man.
I was so upset about face unlock and i regret that i didnt install a custom ROM earlier.
Share your results afterwards please if you installed a custom ROM
this is not a hardware problem, but a software one, it started with the release of android 12, the problem is not in the face unlock sensor, but in the proximity sensor, it sticks, as if it was closed with a finger, I use Pixel experience + 12, this firmware does not have this problem, I'm disappointed with google developers(
