I like to use winrar.... not 100% sure what you are trying to theme, but winrar has been great for me when porting and compiling..
Just encase you didn't know, an apk is pretty much the same as a zip, so you can normally just change the name from .zip to .apk after compiling on winrar.

I use the hot reboot all the time and it works in the HD rom.
Redemption Revolution has a working hot reboot. Believe Redemption ROM does too. Ask Lou.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
You can buy it on the market, or use SkyRaider3.3 which has hibernate as well. I go back and forth between SR and stock with the 3-in-1 reboot feature and the hot reboot from the market.
That thread you posted worked great. Any idea how to change up the icons?
If I were to supply the icons, would someone be able to swap them out? I'm assuming the icons are embedded in the jar file... if anyone can guide on where I can find out how to edit the jar file, I'd appreciate it. The jar file is all that I am pushing to my phone and the icons are still changing on the power menu so they must be in there somewhere.
Help a guy learn! ;p
The actual system icons are only in framework-res.apk and no where else. For Sense roms, there are also some in com.htc.resources.apk. There are only references to them in the framework (jar) files.
Holy ****... how in the hell is it possible that flashing that hotboot zip in the thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=792542
I flashed that and all of my icons were different... black and white only and different graphics. I'll post a screenshot shortly.
Here we go.. Is the jar file maybe referencing different png files?
Edit: can't upload this format. I'll convert it when I'm on the computer.

while hunting for some customized themes for the zio i have run across uot kitchen. for those of us who have not progressed to creating our own themes yet this can help you customize one for you. it is super simple. you upload your framework-res.apk and it will allow you to add their boot animations, fonts, icons plus more. once you have selected what you want it takes about a min or two and it has a custom zip signed and ready to download.
uot.dakra.lt
since i am new i cant post the url link but this is the site.

To make the UOT Zips flashable you must take the com folder from META-INF out of the zip from UOT Kitchen and replace it with the com folder from META-INF openZIO 1.0 Theme. The flash needs the correct update-script which UOT doesn't give us. But if you replace it with the com folder in META-INF from the openZio theme it will flash.

okay here is one made from uot kitchen and for those who say you have to change the zip yall have done something wrong. this is just as it was sent from uot.
I'm not doing anything wrong. The UOT Pick up website has a thing that tells you how to fix errors on it. I got a Status 0 error which the website says to replace the updater-script, which in our phones case is update-script. I fed it framework-res.apk just like it said. Maybe you weren't running the openzio theme? Just sayin, don't be so fast to be like you're wrong.

when you upload your framwork-res.apk on the left side you have a few options that need to be changed. the fist one is edify scripting or amend scripting. choose amend second turn off theme chooser preview. last if you do a bootanimation make sure you use the sense rom option and not froyo default option. Also I did it both using the openzio theme and stock. try it and if that does not work let me know i will almost bet that will solve your issues. last didnt mean to make you think i am rude about what how or what i have posted.

Well clockworkmod 2.5.1.1 does work with updater-scripts and binaries. If you edify it should work amend gave me issues.

All themes I've made, I've wrote using update-script.
updater-script _does_ work with 2.5.1, but I have had a 50% success rate with it - update-script has yielded 100% success.

I think some people are working on them, but 2.0 just came out a few days ago, they most likely need a little bit of time to produce a quality theme.

here you go just copy your framework res apk to your desktop and upload that to the kitchen and then pick and chose what you want to change. Once that is done submit to the kitchen and wait a few mins then pick up your flashable zip file to flash in cwm.

i decompiled lidroid-res.apk add values-it and edit strings.xml, recompiled , put the new lidroid-res.apk into zip for cwm,
installed the zip via cwm, reboot but error ...
one week always error...
can someone help us?

Thanks for ur response... but i seem to have used all the apktools available... i can recompile the "-res.apk" but when i put it back to \system\framework ... the UI FCs and the notification bar doesnot load.
unfortunately od has stopped. >> is the message i get when i put the modified "-res.apk".
i have noticed one thing that the recompiled apk doesnot have META-INF folder... although i tried to copy it and gave a try but still no go...
what i am trying to do is using a themed apk like lidroid or crikelos res .. decompile .. change some text under the toggle buttons ...
what am i doing wrong... ?
hmm... have you tried setting back the permissions on your modified -res.apk in /system/framework? Mounting it before hand?
If you have, you may indeed try to ask some devs or someone who knows their way in recompiling apks as this is a sensitive matter to touch with and I'm moderately more on contributing stuffs rather than delving into the internal programmings on the android ecosystem.
hmmm.. i have changed permissions as well still... Thanks for taking the time out

Only sign lidroid if you have signed every apk in your rom
I normally do this
Decompile apk
Make changes
Compile apk
Go to original apk
Press right
7-zip
Open as archive
Delete res
Delete resources.arsc
Leave the 7-zip archive open
Go to
The decompiled folder
Go to build/apk
Copy all except androidmanifest.xml to the archive
Then its done you have an apk
