[SIMPLE GUIDES] How to root/un-root the HTC Legend + Install ROM's [H-BOOT 1.00]

Rather than looting half of London, I spent my time giving something back to the Android Community.
I've compiled this guide on how to root the HTC Legend vodafone. It's pretty simple in my opinion and I've tried to make it as easy to use as possible. I have included a lot of images and started right from the beginning.

Hi Thanks i just swap my iphone with htc legend from my gf and planning to root the phone. this would be my only guide, hopefully no issue will happen and i will report back. the guide looks good and simple but the only thing i find is, TOO many files needed. maybe i can combine all of them and put in 1 place to help other newbies !
but i still shock to see number of files i need to root an android ! and the files are sooo big aswell ! different from iphone, you just need a website or 1 software to jailbreak it hehehehehe - relax im an android fan boy now !

Every Android device has its own rooting method. The one of the Legend is really long; but don't worry. It's not that hard as it seems. Also this guide is really good!

i actually has hboot 1.0.1 and reading http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894465 is very confusing. can someone point me to easier guide just what mafuzzer done with hboot 1.00 ? thanks alot.

I would create a guide, but unfortunatley I don't have a HTC Legend with that version of H-BOOT.

what am i doing wrong :-( i keep getting usb not connected when it is :-( alsowhen i have got past that stage ONCE it said error 140 incorrect bootloader :-( i have a vodafone legend running 2.2 followed the guide to a t and now im stuck someone help please

Error 140 means that you need to re-create the GoldCard. Your phone must also be connected as, "Charge Only". You could also try plugging your phone in another USB port. Also check that you have AndroidSDK installed.

Added another guide with some advice on choosing ROM's. I'm also working on a simple un-root guide.

Hmm,
But when I went to the webpage the picture could not be seen. Just a little cross on the top corner of the pic. I used Google chrome to open the page.

New Phone for Christmas, help & advice needed PLS!

HI all, long time no post! Hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas & a wonderful new year!
Right, I need your help forum, I'm getting a brand spanking new HTC Sensation XE for christmas, and I want to be ready to get to work on it ASAP!
A few questions:
1) How can I backup the whole ROM in its brand new state so I can restore the original software should I need to for warranty purposes? I remember way back I was able to do this to my Desire!
2) How easy is it to root & S-off? (I've had successes in the past rooting & S-Off'ing my old Desires)
3) Please can you provide me links for the relevant pages, link to S-OFF, Root, Backup whole phone & the ROM listings please?

This is the Sensation XL forum man...U can post your question in the Sensation box becuz those 2 are really alike Merry Christmas

I posted here as there are only 2 Sensation forums, the standard Sensation & the Sensation XL, and being as the XE is newer than the original Sensation, it should be more like the XL than XE, but yeah I shall also post there too.

Actually not, the XE is more likely to the Original Sensation as they have the same design, the only thing is different is that XE has Beats Audio and 1.5Ghz Dual Core CPU and Sensation has 1.2Ghz Dual Core CPU

its ok mate. all you need is in the sensation forum as no actual XE forum as joined with sensation. you will need to follow instructions to root the phone and visit alpha rev site to get s-off info. rooting procedure is all explained in the sensation forum. good luck mate...........
1. once recovery is flashed then can back up your rom there
2. not sure if s-off is available for XE but it is for sensation and they are very similar phones. think super cid also works for XE so can flash any stock rom if stuck
3. sensation XE forum is joint with Sensation so look in there

Xe is sensation just higher CPU clock, and beats native in the xe Rom, sensation roms work on sensation xe also. Rcmix for sensation works on sensation xe also, if you want some ice cream, sadly I have not had luck with it on xl yet, looks like we might need a kernel there

To be honest, I'd rather hack away at the same software version that's already on it, which is why I asked if there was anyway to Nandroid backup the fone before its been rooted? I remember way back there was a post on how to do this with the Desire when I first got mine which actually worked!
So I still require the following information:
** links or tutorials on how to backup unrooted phone software
** links or tuts for S-OFF'ing & rooting
** link for site that hosts RUU ROMS (like shipped-roms.com for Desire)
Yeah I think thats it for now! I will be getting the phone by this Friday, so would appreciate any or all the above info ASAP!

As far as I know you can't get S-OFF yet. But as far as the rest of your questions go, just look in the forum all the answers are there...

Nandroid without root requires a modified recovery which we dont have so any non root backup for now could be done with Mybackup Pro or Titanium Backup
no S-Off for now

Thanks for your post!
I can now confirm that my new HTC SensationXE has been sucessfully S-OFF'ed & rooted Now all I have to do is collect up bits for a new custom ROM hehe

You are better off looking at this FORUM for the Sensation and the Sensation XE, there are more posts and Roms on there. The forum you have posted in is for a Different Model of Sensation.

I said what I did because there is a couple of posts earlier in this thread telling you that you're posting in the wrong place and you acknowledged that. Then you continued to ask for help in this thread and your questions weren't about development they were about you asking where to find the tutorials for rooting, s-off etc which should've been asked in the General section... I don't have a problem and I don't want any arguments, I'm just trying to keep the section clean so people can find help easily...

[Q] Sensation XL screen issue

Hi,
My XL screen glitches (flickers) every now and then. I notice it when I'm in messaging or when when I am trying to change the wall paper in HTC wallpapers.(Software/hardware problem)?
1) Has any one had this problem?
2) And how can I reinstall the original software? (phone is not rooted, stock).
My old Sony Ericsson was able to reinstall the original software through Sony Ericsson Software Updater.
HTC sync is crap.
Any help would be appreciated.

you can maybe try to install a ruu from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1317895 for your area and hope that it's oke after the flash

No need for root, just make sure you flash the proper RUU according to where your phone came from (country)

Sense - 3.5

All the ones i have found so far do not match my phone.

You make it sound so easy but I have nerver done anything like this before. What´s wrong with my build I don´t really know but I guess some file on the phone is missing from unistalling some app or something.
I´ll try to unlock my bootloader, you have a link to how to do it???

You know any other wat than htcdev to unlock bootloader??

could someone give me a step by step guide to rooting for the first time on an XL Beats please? Which tools do I need, and what rom to get and so forth. I am a computer geek but never rooted before and would like not to have a paper weight htc after my first try

Tried DoomLord, but it keeps saying my Android is not 2.0, where do I get a version of doomlord that works for 4.0++ ?

As far as I remember its an old ROM mate, try to download ROMs from dev section which most of us now using JB ROMs(4.2.2)
