Need help with class 10 32GB MicroSD

So I got myself a class 10 MicroSD from newegg from the company called Patriot (reviews for all their products say its a good company)

In any case I figured 99$ isnt too bad. So I got the memory card today and sure enough computer has no issues reading it.Speeds are great and no bad reads or writes
So Im trying to set it up with ext3 etc and nothing seems to be working. So in any case I reformatted everything to fat32 on my PC and the phone isn't even detecting the memory card.
I was under the impression 32GB microsd should be ok. I hope this isnt a compatibility issue. Anyone else have thoughts in this?
Tried partition magic, default disk management application on xp also tried MiniTool Partition Wizard and no luck. At this point I just want the phone to detect the memory card to I can format it from the phone and then do the ext3 either from CW or Amon

Anyone? Is changing the drive letter on a computer going to change anything?

I heard that FAT32 does not support 32GB partition very well.. also some card readers have problem with reading a 32GB shdc card.
Try to make a 10GB Fat32 partition on your SD card and leave remaining space free, see if your phone can use it.

Thanks ill give it a try but no point in a 32gig card if cant use most of it on the phone. Dont need most of the card as ext3 lol

Working fine here. I used Acronis True Image to clone the card the first go around, but didn't like how it setup the card. Then used Acronis Disk Director to reconfigure a 31gb FAT & 1gb ext3. You can use Amon_RA Recovery to setup the card too. I did do that too, but I already have Disk Director to give me the gui view of what's going on.

Cannot get EXT3 partition to work on Desire
I'm also having issues getting the ext3 partition of the Kingston 32GB micro sdhc card to work with my desire.
I used GParted to create a large fat32 partition and also created a 1GB ext3 partition, but when i reboot the handset i get an error meesage on the desire telling me that the sd card is damaged and that i need to format. When i go back into GParted the FAT32 partition looks healthy but ext3 partition comes up as unallocated.
This method has worked fine with an 2 and 8GB micro sd but it seems to have issues when using the 32GB.
I've also tried using rom manager to create a 512MB ext3 partition but that just causes the phone to sit on on the boot up screen.
If anyone is experiencing the same/similar problem, please let me know how you tackled it.

Try to use Amon_RA's recovery and reformat your SD card with it.

Gparted seems to be the best tool to use.

Same problem with a Patriot MicroSD 32GB Class10.
Attempt to partition MicroSD with :
-Gparted
-Minitool Partition Wizard Home
-CWM (HD2)
Partitions are always destroyed or strange modified so Android can't read FAT32 partition.
No problems with a Sandisk 32GB Class 2.

Ok i worked out what this issue was.
Unfortunantly i've purchased a counterfeit Kingston MicroSD.
Kingston confirmed that it was a fake after i send them pics so that explains everything.

Anyone get Froyo running on a 16GB card?

Has anyone here actually gotten any form of froyo to work on a 16gb card? I just sprung for a class 10 card and am bummed I can't get it working. I'm getting cylinder errors with the customized nookie Froyo image and can't seem to find the stock ASOP that was up a while ago to try that.

I had 0.5.9 running on a Kingston 16GB Class 10. I'm going to give 0.6.6 a try. I'm starting from scratch on it. I backed the card up with Win32DiskImager just in case.

Can you tell me what you did exactly? Did you run the makepart.sh and formatpart.sh commands?

I did not run those scripts, just used winimage - restore virtual hard disk image.
I don't see why the size of the sd card should matter at all.

I have it running fine on my card. Just used Win32DiskImager (latest version). After using EASEUS Partition software to resize the sdcard, the sd card shows up fine when viewed in the NC itself. However, I am waiting on the SD Card PC mount fix the dev mentioned in his thread.

I didn't .sh anything. I assume those are linux commands? I'm using Win 7 x64 and running Win32DiskImager to burn the images. I just burned the card, expanded the SDcard to take up unused space and popped it in my NC. It booted first go and I went to settings/sdcard and it reported free space as 10+GB. I assume that means it's reading the right partition as SDCard.

How did you expand the SD card to take up free space? Did you use EASUS partition manager or something?

NF 0.6.7 is now available for download. I re-wrote it to my SD card and expand the sd card partition just as I did in post #5.

6.7 is not working. It has the same force close problems with the resized partition.

I used Win32DiskImager (0.2) to write the card. I used EASEUS Partition Manager to resize the SDcard partition.

That's exactly what I'm doing.
But how's this for strange:
It WORKS with my OLD Ridata class six 16GB card (1 year old). The exact same brand class 6 16gb cards I bought last week force closes like crazy.
6.7 also confirmed working with a class 4 Patriot 16GB card. What the hell.
Now I have NO idea what's going on. I guess there is some kind of incompatibility with every single ridata 16GB class 6 sd card. Which makes no sense.

[Q] Sandisk microSDXC 64GB class 10 UHS1 showing 27.46GB!

I have bought Sandisk microSDXC 64GB class 10 UHS1. When I put it in my computer using USB2.0 Kingston Mobile Reader it could not recognise it. I removed it and I placed it in my Galaxy Note. I went into clockworkmod 6.19 (Non Touch) and I partitioned the card with 2GB or 4GB (I do not remember exactly!!!) and Swap size 256k. When my phone restarted, the phone did not recognize the card. Therefore, I went through the internet to find a solution. I found the program "EaseUS Partition Master 9.1.1 Home Edition" and reformatted the card with FAT32 and cluster size 32KB. When it finally finished, it gave me the size 27.46GB!! I reformatted through SD Formatter 3.0 hoping that the partition used through Clockworkmod messed up the actual size of the card. I successfully re-formatted the card, however the size remained the same. I know that the size of a microSDHC card 32GB is around 29GB, therefore it does not explain size 27.46GB.
My question now, if there is an answer!!! Is the card faulty or did Clockworkmod messed with the card?
Please advise if possible!

Have you tried formatting the card with your phone?
Settings > Storage (Scroll to the bottom)
Make sure to pick the correct one.

How sure you are that your Kingston reader is SDXC compatible? If it's not, it can be that your card is damaged now and can't be fixed (I had that issue). Second thing you should have format the card using some exFAT compatible ROM (for example XLS7 or XLSA) in storage section of the phone, not in CWM.
You should also check if there isn't any other partitions on the card using EaseUS Partition Master. I would delete all partitions on the card and then format using exFAT. But it would work only if the card isn't already damaged by incompatible reader.

If you search abit you will find that sdxc cards used with sdhc reader can be damaged. google it you will find it.

[Q] How to transfer all data in a hybrid TF card to a new card

Now I have installed hybrid CM10.1 on Nook HD in a 8G TF card. Then I would like to replace it with a new 32G card.
My question is how to transfer all the data, use the extra space and does not broke the system.

Use win32diskimager to read the 8GB card to a file. The file will be 8GB. Then use win32diskimager to write that file to your new 32GB card. Then use partitioning software like Mini-Tool Partition Wizard to expand the last partition to the full size of the card.
The data on internal memory will remain and be unchanged. You should be able to boot the new SD just like it was the old one. The only difference will be your CM10SDCARD will be much larger.

If I use the win32diskimager utility to read my working 8GB MicroSD Class4 card it sees nothing because using read will only accept IMG files. There must be something that I am missing here, so please fill in the missing details.
I was going to post an image I created using Snagit of what I see when I attempt what you suggested, but the forum software won't let me.
I plan on trying a clone operation with GParted from the working 8GB SD card to the 32Gb SDHC card. I will post my results here

I had made an empty ".txt" file, then rename it to ".img". It may solve the problem.

Just type in a name. Like 8GB.img in the box. You do not have to actually create the file first, win32diskimager will create it. Then after it is done reading that write it back to your new card.

OK. Thanks. I am giving that a shot. I am going to try it on the Sandisk 16GB class 4 card first and then on the Samsung 32 GB class 6 unit. I will post my results here.
The results were negative with theSandisk 16 GB class 4 and Samsung 32GB class 6 HDSC cards. The 32 GB card went into a loop with the appearance of the CWM graphics and back to the initial Nook image. I let it cycle perhaps 10 times. I then tried the 16 GB card and had the same results.

Since that did not seem to work for you, another option is to make a nandroid backup with your old card to internal memory. You might also want to save your files that you have on CM10SDCARD. Then reburn the new card, let it set itself up, flash CM, the converter and gapps to it. Then before you reboot, restore the backup you made earlier. It should then be set up the same when you reboot. Then restore your CM10SDCARD files.

What do you mean it didn't work? Where did it fail? During backup, during new SD creation or restore?
Edit: If somewhere along the line of your trying to fix this, you installed a new image to a card and booted with it before you did a nandroid backup of your old card, you wiped out the internal /data for the old card and it is not retrievable. If you did that, you just have to start over.

I followed your advice exactly. It appeared to work the same way that it did with the working 8GB SDHC card. I still have a nandroid backup of the old card on my PC. It just doesn't work on the two higher capacity SD cards I have. I see that I am going to have to look through the list and find the exact model of a 32 GB card that someone got working. It works fine on the Sandisk 8GB Class 4 card. The two Samsung cards (class 6) of 16 & 32 GB capacity that I own don't work. They are OK for storage use, but trying to install Android on them was a waste of time. I tried so many times. I used your tutorials and others tutorials unsuccessfully. A bum SD card is a bum SD card. I am not exactly a newbie at installing ROMs on devices . I have been doing it on my HTC Desire HD for about a year ever since HTC abandoned us and decided to not give us ICS or Jellybean for our expensive devices. I have Venom DHD on my HTC Desire HD at the moment. I am waiting for my new Samsung Galaxy s4 to arrive this week.

Droid bionic has a max 32 gb external sdcard limitation. is this a hardware or software limitation?
thinking if it was software, could I create 2 partitions on 64gb card and mount extra partition in vold.fstab as usb1 or sdcard-ext2 or something?

I do not know if this helps or not but my Samsung Precedent is supposed to have a 16gb SDcard limitation but I have a 32gb card in it and it reads it as such. AlI I can say is stick the card in and see what happens. Once I get my Bionic up and running I plan on moving the card to from phone to phone. Good Luck and hope it works.

Is the OS JellyBean?
is the card formatted exfat or fat32?
Is it class 6 or class 10?

Note: reason I'm asking is I have been reading problems with class 10 micros SD drawing too much power and exfat not being recognized with usb thumb drives and I wasn't sure if that carried over to the Micro sd card(for those with a y cable, an OTG cable, and powered hub)

Software problem only, reformat the card as fat32, your phone will ask to do this, and it will work fine.

I broke down and bought a sandisk 64gb micro sdxc
picked up a sandisk 64gb sdxc class 10 from best buy for $35 yesterday.\
It would not read in my bionic because it is formatted exfat file system. Android no like. ext2 or fat32 is preferred if your a windows user def fat32.. problem with formatting anything that large using windows is you need utils found here.

that diddn't work for me so I used easeus partition manager to delete partition on card and create a primary (not extended) partition that was unformatted. I then used the fat32format.exe from the link above to format the card all of which was done in windows xp
working now.
I'm sure there are some things here that are not neccessary but this is what worked for me after a few failed attempts.
do not copy files form your old card until you put a couple files on the new card and test it. you will just end up wasting your time when it doesn't work and you have to reformat it again or repartition it again and copy..... again. I copied 29g to the card like 3 times. lol.
my entire music collection will be with me at all times now!

64gb MicroSDXC is 30$ on Amazon (US).
I got one and it is working flawlessly in my bionic. I was running CM11 at the time, but have jumped a couple of ROMs since then.
I copied all files off of my old card to PC (using the card slot), formatted the new card IN MY PHONE, then copied the files on to the new cardPure success. No errors or anything.
Just my experience though! Bionic isn't supposed to handle 64gb cards, but mine did just fine.

I also purchased a 64 megabyte SD for my bionic and it works great.
