[Q] Clockwork MOD Blocks OTA Updates - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I am in need of some help. I am new to Android, and I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket with AT&T, but I managed to root my phone with Super One Click and install ClockWork Mod Recovery.
Now, when I try to download an OTA update (I am trying to go from Gingerbread to ICS), it boots into clockwork mod recovery and I can't complete the update.
Help! I just want to get my phone back to normal so I can get rid of clockwork mod. I don't even really care about root anymore.
I am not familiar with all of the fancy terms and lingo, so I need "dummy" instructions.
Thanks in advance!

Only ROOT, not change the stock recovery, is it possible?

Hi, on Samsung Galaxy Ace Android 2.3, I can root it only by flash 'upd_1.zip'/'Acegingerroot.zip' from stock recovery. And it only ROOT the phone, it does not replace stock recovery.
Is it also possible on Galaxy Tab Android 2.3?
Try using zergrush. At least I think that's what it was called.

But perhaps there is someone who has tried 'upd_1.zip' on there Tab, and know if it works.
Because, I don't wanna try if it does mess up something.
Rooted a Galaxy Tab P1000 using SuperOneClick http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682

And you still have stock recovery?
SuperOneClick will root you and not replace Stock recovery. I did this several times when I was trying to find new ways to brick my tab. ;-)
If you don't mind my asking, why do you want to keep the Stock recovery. I'm not trying to discourage you from keeping it, but I've started playing with building my own kernels and I find life is a lot easier building in CWM recovery than just working with stock.
Okay thanks..
I also had the CWM on my own Tab before i sold it. But right now I use a friend's Tab while I was waiting to Tab 7.7 comes in stores. And I will not put CWM on my friend's Tab, because then he can not use the normal reset option 'Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset'. And he do not know (like all other normal people), that he instead should use 'CWM factory reset'. If the Tab has CWM.
Superoneclick worked for me but don't do what I did. lol
After rooting worked so great I reopened the superoneclick and tried a shell root thinking it must be even better! four white lights and soft brick was the result.

[Q] Verizon Tab 2.3.5 rooted, need cwm for ICM

I've read several threads over the last few days and I'm a little confused. I want to make sure I'm on the right track before I use the wrong recovery files.
I rooted my tab(verizon) by using heimdall and applied a stock gingerbread rom with root. now I need to get clockworkmod recovery but when I download it from the market it doesn't list the galaxy tab as a choice to flash the recovery.
I read want to know if I need to use ADB to get CWM Recovery? Is Rom Manager for Froyo only? Is there a Gingerbread version? Will the CWM apply ext4?
I need these answered so I can then move to ICM on my tab as I read that I need CWM and Ext4.
If anyone can answer me that would be a big help. I searched a lot so if I missed something very easy, I'm sorry. I read the Q&A, but I am still left with unanswered questions.
Thanks
Just hemindal miui, and it will give correct cwm

[Q] Installing CWM on Galaxy POP GT S 5570

My friend want to upgrade his phone,
and asking me to do so.
I know few things and not a noob but also not a dev or a pro.
Thus i want to ask a question:
He is having an unrooted Galaxy POP GT S 5570 with stock 2.2 froyo
Question is that
Can i directly flash CWM recovery 4.0.0.5 using odin
that is just flashing tass.ops and tass-recovery-cwm.tar ???
Because somewhere i read that CWM requires GingerBread on GT S 5570 to work?
And i know that it is very difficult to unbrick for users like me and sometimes impossible for noobs.
I'm having Xperia X8
And sony ericcson devices are very easy to unbrick using official SONY UPDATE SERVICE SOFTWARE.
If there is something like the above one, for SAMSUNG,
Please tell me?
I tried to OC his phone once and phone strucked in bootloops.
Then somehow I managed to install Stock Firmware of Galaxy MINI
Then we go to the CUSTOMER Care and asked them to reinstall the firmware
And again he is on stock 2.2 only.

well, I think cwm 4.0.0.5 will not work on froyo.. there was once a CWM made specially for froyo and you can get it from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16147687&postcount=1
Problem is that there is no more development for froyo.. so for any questions and issues that you may encounter, you will have to figure it out yourself..
Why not upgrade the phone to GB? It would a lot easier and developement is concentrated on this version. you can flash with Odin tool to upgrade the phone to GB. flash cwm 4.0.0.5 from there and you can start installing custom roms on it. you can choose to update cwm as well since current one is 5.0.2.6..

cwm link froyo gb link:- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342190
Thanks for your support and help.
I'm reading and searching on these things.
Now the actual thing that i want is
A backup of the current state.
But if is 100 % sure that GT-S5570_INU_S5570DDKQ7_S5570ODDKQ6_S5570DDKQ7.rar
file will upgrade to GB and works well, then no need of backup.
Ok i had understood all the things .
I would surely upgrade my friends phone and install CWM and provide him with a big list of CUSTOM ROMS which devs are developing at our beloved XDA FORUMS.
XDA ROCKS
THANKS A LOT for the assistance.

[Q]

Hello
my Samsung galaxy mini has come back from warranty after being bricked by rom manager a month ago and i know have courage to root it -didnt know about xda developers then (have rooted my sensation xe and wildfire succecfully in the meantime)
however because of my bad experience with my galaxy mini im a bit cautious i know
I can root it easily
but the recovery is what troubles me as i know there are two methods
flashing with stock recovery
odin
which is the safest or are they both the same and what are the chances of messing up using odin
plz help :good:
just follow tutorials, I skipped rooting and just flashed CWM via odin and then flashed pre-rooted custom rom

I've never really messed with Odin too much, but I flashed it with the stock recovery no problem. If you search on the forums I'm sure you'll find an easy root zip that you can download. I also got CWM (clock work recovery mod) and I use that to install all of my custom ROMs. I've never had a problem yet. Hope that helps!
Can someone send me a link to flahsing cwm using stock recovery (only saw the one with Odin)
And if I root and install cwm will I be able to accecc my stock Rom or will I have to
Flash a new Rom

[Q] Help -I have my Samsung Galaxy mini in a Boot loop

I accidently updated an unrooted Samsung stock ROM that shipped with the phone with cyanogen_mod
_7_tass in my attempt to root my Samsung Galaxy mini s5570 using update.zip method.
I had intended to used the "update.zip" method to root the device. But the ROM MOD instead, sadly had also been "update.zip".There was a mix up of the two files.Theres unfortunately no Clockworkmod Recovery installed. (I was quite aware of this possibility if things were to go wrong.).
My Device runs on Froyo and now is in a bootloop.
I just only want to find out if there is the slimest chance of having my device back in shape again.
Thanks a bunch in advance !
I will be happy to hear theres some hope.

You must reinstall again stock rom (programs needed: Odin, tass.ops and drivers for galaxy mini s5570). On xda you'll find step by step reverting back to stock rom your galaxy mini. Btw read carefully every step to understand those things and after you can practice. Check general section for Odin and installing stock rom.
Press thanks if helped you
am downloading .. s5570 galaxy mini firmware--- is that the same thing as stock ROM?

After a whole day of no-work and goofing around the web yesterday i figured out somthing similar but just wasnt sure ...felt i needed to search some more. then your quote dropped in my inbox. Its made a lot of my confusion clear. I have tass, odin and ops. all the programs need already. At first i could access the stock rovery mode, but using odin again to try and get Clockworkmod made matters worse. I have with a bootloop and no where close to the recover mod any more just downloading mode. So I've kept reading and reading on to find out something useful. I guess that may be the sure way getting stock rom installed back.
Now i am just downloading .. s5570 galaxy mini firmware--- is that the same thing as stock ROM?
That's it man...Official firmware is called the stock rom...
