What is the best and fastest GB ROM? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Plan to go back from ICS.
To wait for my official ICS from Samsung.
Any ideas which GB ROM to use will top the quadrant benchmark list?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA

for me DarkyROM_Note v 3.4.1 + franco kernel v10

Cassie's xtraliterom gives me score 3859 in quadrant benchmark. Is that anywhere near Notes potential?

Running the Litening Rom with Abyss Kernel4.2, oc'd to 1.6 on performance for the quadrant test. Typically I choose the "on demand" governor for every day use - just safer.
Ahywho - here's the score I get.
Edit: I do Love ICS, but gingerbread runs much faster and most items are functional, so tough decision either way. I usually nandroid back and forth between the two

I'm on the latest Checkrom with Abyss Kernel 4.2 and a slight overclock to 1.5Ghz. My score is 4433.
I'm using Nemus launcher which to me is on of the smoothest launchers, I've had lag in ADW and GoLauncher.

What is the fastest ICS ROM?

I have installed AOSP v08, looks great and much more stable than GB 2.3.6.
But the quadrant speed is almost half the original GB speed.
Should I go back to GB? And what is the fastest rooted GB ROM?
In my opinion the fastest Ics rom is stunner.

quadrant scores don't really mean much when it comes to end-user experience. Stunner is the fastest ICS rom I've used, but I haven't even been on a touchwiz-based rom since the RocketRom ICS bricking fiasco so those might be pretty fast these days.
The stunner rom is the best ics rom I have seen but if u want a really smooth rom I suggest u stick with gingerbread till the official update comes along. Personally I prefer chracks rom. Best rom I have ever seen.

Which one is better chracks rom or stunner rom in your opinion? Thanks.
Alba V2, LP5 kernel + added LB2 modem = speed, smoothness, stability. 4200 in Quadrant on default settings. As said, don't care much about tests, this is by far the best ICS rom I've seen, with all respect to other devs.

[Q] Devil3 Kernel over Semaphore(CM9)

I had CM7-1.0 before with pawitp kernel.
Today, I flashed the latest CM9 nightly and right now am on the stock kernel.
I have the following kernels with me at the moment:
—Semaphore ICS Kernel from here
—Devil3 from here
My questions:
Which one of these Kernel will give me the best battery life and is fast at the same time?
Will I get a bootloop if I flash either of these kernels over the stock kernel which comes with the CM9 nightly?
There are both BLN and CMC kernels on this page. Which one should I be using?

1. Try it yourself, flashing kernel is about 1 minute. Both kernels are great.
2. Try it yourself, bootloop isn't yet diagnosed. Sometimes it happens sometimes not.
3. there are only 2 versions: cmc (cm colours) and vc (voodoo colours).
Also before flashing wipe cache/dalvik and clear init.d and ns tools

Hi, before you flashing a new kernel, flash first the kernel cleaning script from lipol. then you have no problems with the new kernel.
And what you think about midnight Kernel? I use this Kernel and i'm very happy with them. You have with that kernel a very good Battery life.

Used to always use kernel cleaning script lately Kernel cleaning script gives me boot loop nearly everytime.
Wipe cache, wipe dalvick, clear ns tools and clear init.d is fine.
Of the kernels you have mentioned i have found semaphore to have better battery and to be more stable unless you want to over clock. Or that is my experience anyway.

After using stock cm 9 kernel for quite a while I was curious to try out semaphore and regretted it only hours afterwards...
With Antutu Benchmark App I got 400 Points less compared to stock kernel... after some hours my phone hang up (black screen, ne wake up). Some hours later the next black screen... Finally I got back to stock kernel and I am happy again
Its very fluid and responsive, in my opinion there is really no need für a custom kernel in CM9, only if you need USB Host support and the ability to overclock...
I'm using devil3 kernel and I love it, it's just awesome. I think it's more customizable than semaphore, but a bit harder to set. Anyway, you should test by yourself both of them, remember to flash lippol's kernel cleaner before flashing a new kernel

Devil kernel is the best for me. I love all the options and speed. I over clock to 1.4GHz, use lulzactive governor with smooth UI profile and everything is tuned for performance and I still get almost 2 days on battery. Using cm9

I would suggest devil kernel, it has a very good battery live, some great features like swap or zram
And BTW: Just flash your kernels over each other, no use to flash kernel cleaning script neither wipe dalvik cache. it has nothing to do with kernels ;-)

Devil3 for me too. As well as being fast and having decent battery life, it's the only kernel that had voodoo color. Once you've found the best settings for your screen there's no going back.

Devil3 for me too. It works like a charm. :good:
I'm running CM9 stable with Semaphore 1.3 on 1.2GHz and smartassV2 governor.
Never had any problems with semaphore so i keep using it. my battery lasts for 1 day while running games for several hours, and up to 4 days, if i barely use it.
i know many people don't like benchmarks, but i thought i'd attach my quadrant-score anyways.

I too am using Semaphore 1.3 with smartasv2 governor, no problems here either, i recommend it !

[Q] What Kernel are you using with what Rom and why?

As the title suggests I would like to know what kernel people are using with what Rom and why.
Do you use the same Kernel with every Rom you flash?

Well im on stock 2.2.1 froyo with CF-ROOT kernel. got this phone as present lats week. haven`t flash it yet xD but ,as anyone here, i just love flashing
I am using cm9 nightlies - based on 4.0.4 because of its stability, good battery life and performance, settings + twics - tw launcher, weather widget and some other things from sgs3, atm with devil3 .79 kernel, with stock ram (378mb, if needed, i can increase it up to 403mb), stable oc up to 1400mhz (with semaphore 1140max., 1200 -> bootloop), also gpu is oc-able ... but if u dont want to oc, semaphore kernel is better for u
I'm reinstalling right now the miui speed ics by lucainno, with devil3 kernel. I really love this rom expecially for the layout, which is different from any other rom! The speed is great and battery life as well. And the kernel is simply... awesome! For its customization
Hi, I'm using ics 4.0.4 cna by franzy with the midnight kernel. I had the devil before but i got a bootloop. With the last midnight the phone is smooth, no lags, good battery life, no bugs until now !
Saurom jw5 + semaphore + ext4 works for me.. very smooth ops. Sticking to 2.3.6 for the fm radio

I'm running the CM9 nightlies as well, with a Semaphore kernel. Very stable and good batteri life, although I'm thinking about comparing with a devil3 kernel. Right now, with the battery life I'm having the most important thing for me is the stability, though.

[Q] Which kernel

Hello,
I would like to flash a custom kernel to my SGS which is running CM9 nightly.
I had CF-Root kernel and semaphore when my phone was running GB.
Now i have ICS on it and i want to oc it so i need a custom kernel.
Which is the best? Semaphore was very good when i was using GB
Because it has so much tweaks and other things.
So i maybe install Semaphore or should i try other kernels?
use semaphore. its stable. keep it as backup and try other kernels. when and if they go Kaput or bootloops go back to semaphore. performance max is for devil. but in my case it proved unstable after a while. that's just me thou.
I tried semaphore 1.2.5 but it goes to bootloop
Bootloops are often caused by not clearing/wiping cache(s) from recovery console after flashing.
Semaphore 1.2.6 is latest one. To try that. Also clear cache, dalvik cache, init.d and ns tools.

i have 2 Recommended
1. you have midnight kernel for ics - very stable and save your battery power/
2. devil 3 - very fast kernel for gamer's . very good with OC.
SEMAPHORE

Go for semaphore.. It is awesome...
If my post helped, don't mind hitting thanks ;-)

Semaphore is the be(a)st in my opinion
Devil all the way! So many options. My phone is totally dialed for performance. And never crashes. Ever. I love it.

It depends wether you want to spend your days forever tweaking or you want out of the box no problems.... for the latter use semaphore
You'll find that most of the kernels are based on the CM9 kernel (by pawtip) and simply add extra features, or default settings. Semaphore is a good mix between 'flash and go' and tinkering, so whether you want to just leave it as default or OC, UV etc you can
What the **** ? Devil3 of course bro ! Test it, you wont change the kernel ever !!!
On CM9 first i used MNICS (midnight) without any problems. Then i switched to Semaphore but experienced a lot of problems with several versions. So i switched back to MNICS, perfect battery and fast but not a lot of tweaking.
Now i'm on Tiramislim v2 with the devil kernel and its superfast and good tweakable. Has a lot of governors and a lot of settings, all you can wish for!
Dude, you should use DEVIL
in my opinion, devil is the best kernel for ics!!
semaphore is fine, but a lot of features are missing..(such as blink status, "cpu governor"- there are 4 governor only.. in devil and other kernels for ICS u can find over 10..) and a lot of other stuff are missing.. semaphore has poor features and for me, devil was even faster and better than semaphore..
I used both of them- semaphore first for 2 weeks and after that switched to devil and ive been using it like 1month so far..
)and few days ago I switched for semaphore in my brother's phone.. after 1 hour changed it to devil 2 like mine.. really tons of things are missing..)
in conclusion:
devil is the best! stable+ fast+ deep sleep+ includes tons of features and great OC (thats what u want..)
semaphore- fine, but a lot of features and options are missing, not high OC, no blink and WAY MORE..
(&devil is faster) both of the kernels are battery friendly.

Which kernel- Notecore vs HydraCore

I would like to update my note to KingDroid ICS Notemania 7.4 ( from 7.2) and I have a dilemma. Which kernel will be better ( OC version)- faster, consumes less batery- to use it for 3d games and also for standard use( phone calls, pdf reading, internet ,etc.).
Does someone test both of them and can recomment better one? Maybe you can insert some benchmark results?
Both are great. Both notecore and hydracore are almost the same. But I prefer hydracore. Both gives me around. 4500-5400 quadrant score.. Try both kernels.

I'm amazed when I see people getting such high scores. I'm on Rocket tom with speedcore and get 4200. Is it best to test with no screens filled with apps? I switch active ones off, but I've not been impressed with any scores. I mod for cosmetic reasons.
Sent from my Samsung note, running smooth coochie ROM, with omg kernel.
dude...
hydracore = notecore + multiROM
notecore was updated to support more than just touchwiz ROM's so it was renamed to hydracore
Ok. Thanks al for answer.:good:
