So like most people I sync my gmail account with my droid but when I go to sign into my email with the app it says my password is incorrect. I have retyped it at least 80 times and now its just annoying anyone know how to fix this?

Disable the 2-step verification in your Google account.
Could you please tell me how to do it?

First of all do you have 2 step authentication activated?
Do you use Google authentication to sign in to Web Gmail?
If so go to 2 step authentication page and generate an application auth. code name it Gmail and use that as a password for you application.
If you want to disable it, search Google "disable 2 step authentication"

Generally I change my passwords annually, but I'm wondering how this would affect the sync on my phone. Does this automatically "update" on your phone; i.e. do I even need to change anything on my phone to keep the sync going (along with the paid apps).
I'm probably over-worried about it, but i would like to change my PW but would hate to have to wipe my phone to do it.
Has anyone changed their Gmail password since setting up an Android phone?
If you change your Gmail account password your phone will eventually popup with a sync error message. You'll then be prompted to enter your new password at this point to sync. So, a wipe is not required.

I have exactly the same issue. Amazingly, It looks like google didn't implemented a easy feature to this scenario.
For several forums I searched in, I only could find that if I wait an unspecific number of days, eventually!, it will pop up a window to insert a password! Completely unacceptable. I'm very frustrated with this.

How about just remove and re-add gmail in "accounts & sync".

You can't remove your primary google account.
But, if you change your password, within an hour it should popup asking for your new one. It's relatively easy; I've done it a half-dozen times.
If it's rooted then I think wipe cache or davlik resets account.

If you try to log back into the Android market, it asks you for the new password, and resets this across your phone.
I'm on HTC desire.
I had the same issue with the endless Captcha. There is a solution though.
Go to www .google .com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptcha on a PC or a web-browser and unlock the Captcha for your account. You will then be able to login again with username and password on your device.
Hope this helps

From a pc i changed the password on my gmail. Now my phone is pissed because everything syncs back to that account. I tried to change it back from a pc but it wont accept it. Any way to change the password that my phone registers?

From what I've heard, you have to add the google account with the new password, then uncheck the original account from syncing
Cant add the same account, guess I will have to make a new one.

That really sux..surely someone has successfully changed their gmail password without having an issue on the device?
How about removing the account via Settings...Accounts and Sync and re-adding?

did you enter your user name as your full email address, checked password is correct?
Yeah, same settings as that, password is correct.
I'm just wondering if i'll need a device specific one?
Edit: I did indeed, application specific password was needed.
Hello everyone,
I just got this phone yesterday and I tried to add my school email through the email app but it keeps saying authentication failed.
I added 3 of my other email accounts to this email app and they all went through. Only my school email address is having this problem. Can someone please help me out?
i'm not too knowledgeable on this, but i did have to set up my uncle's email addresses on an Android phone. i was having problems until i contacted his web host and found out the correct incoming and outgoing server ports..... then when i went thru the manual setup in the email app, it worked out.
I tried to search on my school website for the instruction on how to setup their email on another email client and it has all the incoming and outgoing info but when I tried to do it manually on the phone it still doesn't work. However, there is a note in the instruction that says that I have to use gmail app on the android device. I also use the gmail app to set up this email account and it works but it doesn't work with the regular email account. The thing is i want all my email accounts to be in one place and not having to use different apps for each account. If anyone have similar problems and find a way to solve this please help me out thanks.
hopefully someone can help you more. i don't know if this applies to you but my uncle's web host told me that some internet providers block the default outgoing port 25, so he suggested i use 8889, and that worked. good luck getting it working..
Sounds more like a "we want to force Android users to use the Gmail app" situation than a problem. Do you go to BOFH U? (Google bofh if you're not familiar with the breed.)
Before I switched to this phone I was using an Iphone 5 and it didn't have a problem with adding this email account.
I wonder what causes the regular email app on this phone to keep having the authentication failed message.
You won't be able to use it with the stock "email" app because of the way your schools exchange server works. You will have to get another email client that supports all of your email addresses. Try K-9 mail it's open source and works really well.

Hello I recently added a 2 factor auth for google, but this makes my mail app not work. Please do not suggest that I use the gmail app, I like to use both. Is there any way to get this to work?
I already signed out and tried to sign back in. The error I get when signing in is: "Account setup error. Setup failed. Reasons may be: The user name or password is incorrect. The IMAP/SMTP service is disabled. Enable the service and try again. For more info, contact your email service provider."
