[APP] [THEMED] Dark ICS MMS - Nexus S Themes and Apps

Hello everybody! So I'm here to share with you my themed mms. All these white backgrounds in stock mms made my eyes bleed, so I decided to make a dark theme for mms app, so I took the mms.apk from this rom and changed some png's and xml's and here is the result. Hope you all enjoy.

Froyo + sense theme instructions

EDIT:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=743703
I was looking through xda forums today and found this. Didn't even knew it existed when I wrote this post 2 days ago. I haven't tried it (if you want to try it remember NANDROID backup) but looks like an easy alternative to my method (plus from the screenshots it looks like a complete sense theme, even widgets if you have Launcherpro plus).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For those anxious for froyo + sense I found a way to make any Froyo/CM6 rom look like sense. (pictures in attachments, The rom I tried this on was CELBFroyo 1.9.)
*this is not a rom, this is instructions on how to theme Froyo to look like sense, I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone, ALWAYS DO A NANDROID BACKUP BEFORE ANY THEME, themes can really mess up your rom*
step 1. download and install launcherpro (from the market, .apk version at launcherpro.com)
step 2. download perfectsense from http://www.launcherpro.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=854&p=8123&hilit=sense#p8123 and move the folder to your sd card. (edit: Their are some great custom dockbar's for launcherpro here
http://www.launcherpro.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=854 you can make launcherpro look like sense expresso, you can make it look like motoblur, or many other things.)
step 3. on phone under menu>preferences>appearance settings>Dock background>custom and go to the sense dockbar on your sd from step 2, but when you go to the homescreen the dock icons will be showing, just click and hold then tap change shortcut (change it to whatever you want) and select custom image and choose the blank png included in the folder downloaded in step 2.
step 4. [sense clock] download + install fancywidget (it used to be on market but was taken down, download links >>...http://forum.mobilism.org/viewtopic.php?f=399&t=127233 ...http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/1840-anyone-have-fancy-widget-found/) and put it on your homescreen.
step 5.[theme white status bar to sense status bar] for this step I used the tool APKManager (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695701) I adb pull'ed /system/framework/framework-res.apk from my phone (option 0 in APKManager), extracted it (option 1 in APKManager, APKManager automatically puts the extracted apk in the "out" folder in the the same directory as APKManager), then I took status bar images from a sense based rom (status bar images are located in /system/framework/framework-res.apk>res>drawable-mdpi) I copied them and replaced the stock status bar images in the "out" folder of APKManager, then zipped up the apk (option 3 in APKManager) and pushed it to /system/framework/framework-res.apk (option 8 in APKManager) and rebooted.
step 6. Go to menu>settings>cyanogenmod settings>user interface and under Status bar customization I suggest you change things such as date and clock to white, along with some other tweaks.
step 7. reboot for changes to take effect.
Sorry if it there are typo's/it is hard to understand I wrote this at 5AM, I was just messing around with my phone and I thought someone else might enjoy this. Also since this uses launcherpro it is extremely customizable and feels quicker than sense, plus it rotates . By far the hardest part is step 5, I don't know much about metamorph but perhaps this could be automated using metamorph.
Very cool! Thank you! This will have to suffice until someone graces us with actual Sense UI on Froyo.
Could you post your updated framework-res.apk to push to the system folder?
Thanks, great job on this post

+1, would save us all from doing the job all over again. Thanks!
You could just use beautiful widgets. They have the clock with the weather but unfortunately not the weather effects

Speedo-Battery install instructions for all rooted ROMs

The updated version causes a boot loop on KaosFroyo, probably other ROMs too. Make a backup or undo file !
This page contains instructions to install the port of the speedo battery from the Viva Cyan, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=900589. I take no credit other than packaging it for installation on the Eris, Hero and other medium-res Androids.
The original theme post for Eris by CondemmedSoul is here.
This method of installation only updates the status bar battery icons. See the attached screenshots of it installed with stock Froyo and with my HtcBlackStatusBar. I like it better over a black background myself.
INSTALLATION
1. Download and install ZipThemer from the market. Its free. If you have it installed already, check to be sure you have version 1.5 or later.
2. Download this theme file to your device and leave it unpacked in Zip format. This is not a MetaMorph file and it is not a flashable update. You may put the zip anywhere you wish on your sdcard, but I suggest a subdirectory like /sdcard/ZipThemer or /sdcard/download so you won't see this zip in the list of flashables from recovery.
2a. If you don't already have a black status bar and want one, download any black status bar MetaMorph theme to your device such as HtcBlackStatusBar, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=779488. Also leave this theme file in Zip format. ZipThemer can install multiple themes at once following the instructions below.
3. Open ZipThemer and press the "+Theme" button to load the theme file. A file browser opens, use it to select the speedo-battery2.zip file.
3a. If you are also installing a black status bar theme, click "+Theme" again and select its zip file. In the ZipThemer theme list, long-press on speedo-battery and select "Move Down". You want the speedo-battery theme to be lower in the list compared to the status bar theme in order to ensure that its icons take precedence over any others.
4. Click the "Build It!" button to begin the process of creating a flashable update zip file. Answer "Yes" to creating an undo file if you want an easy way to revert these changes later. It takes about a minute to create the flashable update and undo files.
5. Exit ZipThemer and make any font color changes required by the status bar, if you are installing one. The speedo-battery theme does not require font changes itself.
6. Boot into recovery and flash speedo-battery-update.zip.
7. Reboot. Enjoy your new status bar battery icons. If you're not enjoying them, go back into recovery and flash speedo-battery-undo.zip.
CondemmedSoul's version with 100% levels is here.

Yes, you're not alone. I'll take a look at the problem when I get a chance.
Ken
Cool, other than that it works wonderfully!
It's been fixed now. I just uploaded the flashable zips for tazz v26 and CELB 4.1
in my thread and sent the missing piece to kellinwood so he can add it to the theme zipper file.

The updated ZipThemer theme file is attached here temporarily until CondemmedSoul picks it up for distribution in his thread.
EDIT: Rats, the new version causes a boot loop, just like when I tried the original flashable version. Looks like this install method is a no-go.

No, you don't need to unzip those files. You just have to place those zip files in sdcard/data/com.teslacoilsw.widgetlocker/themes

I'm having issues with my widgetlocker adding new themes. I've added themes before and they've worked fine but now it wont add any more. I've added the zip file, which has like 20 themes in it, into the location mentioned above. Then I go into widgetlocker and have the slider selection screen update the theme population. But it doesn't show any additional themes. What am I doing wrong?

Do I have to extract them and zip each one of them individually? Because I tried it extracted, with the actual folders for each theme in the correct directory, and still nothing happened.

Yeah, if the themes aren't in zip format, make a new zip (with Astro or something) and copy and paste the thenes inside. Widget Locker only loads up zip themes, but not themes within a zip.

Ok so I took all of the themes out of the larger archive and zipped them each individually, making sure that each zip had just the folder and the theme files within. Still nothing. I have no clue why these files arent being read.
**deleted**
so where do you download this theme?

You're not the only one having problems, i think everyone trying to help maybe misunderstanding the problem, or at least mine is different.
Once I have done the 1-5 I can choose a theme but the only thing that happens is that it adds an additional unlocker to my current setup, creating multiple unlock wigets.
There must be a setting somewhere that is not allowing the full theme to be applied.
for example if I install "droids on a wire" i get the unlock mechanism added to lockscreen (in additon to the one I allready had) but unthemed. It does not show the droids hanging just the base unlocker used in it; no background or anything other else in that theme. This happens on any theme I have tried to apply
what setting am I missing??
Screenshots of your device and what it supposed to look like would be very helpful.

WidgetLocker Themes

So I've gone through most of this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=968613
These are my favorites. I know it's biased but I really took a lot of time to go through them all. If you have any suggestions or if I missed any other good ones let me know!
Download : http://www.mediafire.com/?si5mdc0fy34d6fv
INSTRUCTIONS:
In the initial .zip files there are the themes/zip files. (each zip is a single theme)
Manually copy the “Theme.wltheme.zip” file to your SD Card. The theme files should be placed in:
/sdcard/data/com.teslacoilsw.widgetlocker/themes
For example:
/sdcard/data/com.teslacoilsw.widgetlocker/themes/theultralinx.wltheme.zip
- The wallpaper: The issue is that the system can only have one wallpaper and it's shared globally. So WidgetLocker's custom
wallpapers are just images that WidgetLocker displays as a background. The best fix for this might be for WidgetLocker to let you select a file, using gallery or astro or whatever, and then have WidgetLocker do the cropping itself. This way it gets the actual image and can still crop it or scale it down (sanely) to avoid using so much memory, but can be done without banding. If you want to do it manually in the mean time and are rooted you can replace WidgetLocker's /data/data/com.teslacoilsw.widgetlocker/files/wallpaper.png with your own. Just make sure the resolution matches your phones. Then disable/reenable WidgetLocker to get it to reload.
- Installing a custom slider: Since WidgetLocker 2.0 custom themes are supported and come in the .wltheme.zip format. This means you can open it and your phone will prompt you to Install and Add the theme. The themes are saved on your SD card (/data/com.widgetlocker.teslacoilsw/themes). You can also copy the theme.wltheme.zip to the folder on your SD card. Naturally the theme will be unavailable once your SD card is mounted to a computer or something similar. It will return to normal once you unmount it again. You add the themes you've installed by longpressing the screen and choose Custom Slider. There you can do even further settings, like slide from right to left. If not you simply press "Add".
I only collected the themes. THE CREDIT GOES TO THE SKINNERS!!!
Some .zip files may contain the corresponding wallpaper. So you need to do an extra extraction for make the skin functional

Small / Reduced Size CM7 themes

Hi. This thread will deal with the idea of reducing the size of a CM7 theme.
CM7 themes installed on SD card don't work properly ( say when phone is connected to PC for USB storage, phone may restart, or when phone is turned on theme on SD card is not applied properly.
This will allow you to install more themes, and save internal memory.
Disclaimer: I'm not responsible for any damage to your phone. Do it at your own risk
Make sure you have nandroid backup, although this process may not damage your phone
It is very easy, just follow these steps:
1) Download a CM7 theme (.apk file)
2) Double-Click on the .apk file, Windows will ask for program to open it. Select 'Use installed Programs' and then browse to your Winrar.exe, and click OK. So from now on you will be able to open any .apk file with Winrar
3) Once you open it, go one level up and extract the .apk'
4) Now close winrar, and go inside the extracted folders. Now you'll see many icons, for various apps, for theming.
5) Delete the icons of apps which you don't have on your phone and probably will not install in future.
6) Cut the theme Wallpapers and move them outside of the apk folder. Delete Wallpaper small images. Transfer the images to sd card and you can use them as normal images
7) Now make a zip of the extracted .apk theme folder, and transfer to your phone's SD card. Make sure you make a .zip and not .rar
8) OR just transfer the folder directly to your phone's SD card without zipping. Use Rootexplorer, long press on the folder, select 'zip this folder', and then Go to zip folder.
9) Now from either step 6 or step 7, long press the zip, and rename, now just change the extension from .zip to .apk
10) Install this .apk as any other .apk
11) Apply the theme. Go to manage applications, see the size of your theme, it will be 30% to 50% size of original .apk
12) So you have reduced the size of CM7 theme
Be Careful:
1) This method may not work on some .apk themes. If modified theme does not install, and is installed but doesn't work properly, it means you've deleted some system icons. Uninstall the theme. Modify again to make it working
2) If you have LDPI phone, you may not want HDPI icons, so you can delete entire 'drawable-hdpi' but only some theme will work. Some LDPI themes do require HDPI icons
3) I've uploaded one reduced size CM7 themes with wallpapes. Open them and see which icons I've deleted, so your can get some idea of how this method works.
Original Red_Remix theme is 8MB, the attached Red_Remix theme is only 4.5MB, 44% reduction
Thanks:
Big thanks to UpwardSpiral for his awesome themes. I used your themes just to demonstrate the idea of reducing the size of any CM7 theme. If you don't want me to use your theme for demonstration of the idea, then do let me know.
Here is the XDA thread for UpwardSpiral themes: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11768348#post11768348
Download UpwardSpiral themes from Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/developer?id=UpwardSpiral
A really nice idea...
But most (if not all) cm7 users have a sufficiently big sd partition...
