hi,
I own a Samsung Galaxy S I9000,
I never updated the system.
my Firmware version is 2.2
I was told that when you update the system it erases all the info on the phone, is it true?
I would like to know what is the latest firmware version for SGS and how do I update the phone. I believe there is already a page with instructions but I couldn't find the right one for me.
Thanks
hi
hey there
good to hear you wanna update ! the newest version depends on where ur from bro , the latest official firmware in the east is the value pack 2.3.7 update
if you haven't customized or rooted ans can update via kies software your sd card data will remain intact. any form of android system data like notes and contacts will be erased .
make necessary backups of contacts notes etc . backup available via kies .
plug in the phone and it will prompt you with update available .
flash after taking backups

Guys,
I flashed my Note with a HK Original Samsung ROM (N7000ZSKK1, obtained at the development section).
When I bought it in Shanghai, it had a modified version of the original firmware with lots of china apps that meddle with what I want to do, and since it had superuser on there I knew it was flashed. probably from a China issue version that doesn't have google apps
All seems fine after flashing the original HK version, except for one thing: I get software update notifications, and when I try to install them, I get an installation failure notification. I thought that if a phone had a correct ROM installed, it would be able to receive OTA updates? I was hoping to get Samsung's ICS update officially (rather than performing ROM flashes each time an update comes along...).
I used Mobile Odin to flash the firmware. Without checking (e.g. by installing titanium backup) I don't know if it is still rooted or not. Prior to flashing it the unit was actually not rooted (the chinese unrooted it after flashing the custom HK ROM I think), and it had the same issue wrt not being able to install OTA updates.
Any idea why I cannot install OTA updates?
Alternatively, what's the easiest solution to keep my phone up to date with samsung's latest and greatest?

Sometimes OTA updates get fail. Try with Samsung Kies.
Tried that, but it gives the message "Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies". It states for current firmware version: PDA:KK1 / PHONE:KJ6 / CSC: (TGY)
SHould I be installing a different firmware?
Hi, as you can see on the screenshot, I'm on KL8
But KIES don't want to update my Note, it says my device is not compatible with update via KIES (KIES itself is up to date with new instal )
And on the phone, when i'm searching for update, it says no update available.
I WANT ISC STOCK...
What should I do ? Reflash stock ROM and KERNEL ? Which version ? I'm a bit lost...
Thanks a lot
ICS OTA is currently being rolled out in Germany only...where r u located?

Delete Downloaded Firmware Update On Rooted Android Phone
dear all
i've got a problem kind of related to the question above:
i have a rooted galaxy s2 with cfw 3.0.31-Siyah-s2-v5.0.1+
now my phone downloaded the software update of 380MB but as far as i'm concerned i don't want to update.
i've been looking for the folder where this update downlaoded into to delete it but with no luck.
is there a common "downloaded firmware upgrades" - folder?
kind regards
Hi all,
I have speedmod kernel, default samsung 4.1.2 /N7000XXLS0 / JZ054K.N7000ZSLM5 rom.
It has crappy GPS and it gets Laggy so when Samsung update said there was an 80MB update available I was like: Wooohooo! thought it might fix my issues.
I let it download but when it restarted it was in Clock work mod.. and I lost the update.. Samsung won't let it download again and now says phone modified...
Where would the update service put the file it downloaded? Is there an update newer than my details listed below? If I can find the file, how would I go about installing it?
Sorry for all the questions, but constantly losing the GPS connection is really causing me issues.. The lag isn't great either.

check for latest firmware on sammobile.com and download the file from there and flash using pc odin
you wont be able to install OTA updates on a phone which has custom recovery. flash a stock kernel and try again
Following a number of guides I decided to downgrade to 4.1.2. I backed everything up using PC Companion and flashed the genereic uk 4.1.2 firmware.
when i tried restoring my backup only the photos appeared to restore. I decided to try a factory reset to see if that helped - no joy. I used the sony update service tool and it installed 4.1.2. but still no joy with the restore.
If i type in and call someone that would have been in my contacts list, their name does appear on the call log, so its almost as though the contacts are on my phone, just not in my contacts list.
Also now that I've rolled back to 4.1.2, both my phone and PC Companion recognise this as the most recent update. Does this mean when the 4.3 update comes out, i will have to wait for someone to post the firmware and flash it via flashtool rather than update via pc companion?
Thanks!
The backup you made will only work on android 4.3, root android 4.1 and flash android 4.3 ftf for keeping root, then restore your backup and create a new one using titanium backup(make sure you change the destination folder to a folder in your sd because flashing will format your internal memory) then flash android 4.1, root it and restore the titanium backup
Ah makes sense.
Thanks for the reply. Have you seen anywhere for 4.3 generic uk?
I can only find generic global.
