[Q] Flashing boot.img? - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

Hey Guys,
I am a noob when it comes to Vivid rooting. I was able to unlock the bootloader and root my phone (S-On). I flashed Virtuous Inquisition and had some problems such as with the Wifi. I read that because I was S-On, I should have flashed boot.img (and that should fix the problem). I am completely stuck as to what I should do right now. I am not too sure how to flash the boot.img or what to do since the rom was already flashed.
I appreciate all of your help in advance

Am I supposed to do something on my phone? (such as boot into recovery)?

So if I want to flash the rom from scratch I have to flash boot.img, the kernel and then the .zip rom booting always in hboot? Can I flash the wcx recovery after all that?
Thanks in advance for your answers.

I read the same post i think and so did as it said to extract the boot.img from the ROM and then follow the steps descrided as above however now i am stuck on the htc screen boot loop and cannot get out of it even by restoring my backup of the original rom that i made or installing the VI rom again?
How can I recover from this
Running a Sensation XE HBoot 1.27. everything went fine to root and install custom rom, only wanted to fix the Wifi issue on VI 4.0.2!!

you know this is for the vivid

Yeah I know I'm sorry for posting here but this is the only post that is talking about the same problem that I have been having, is the solution not similar?

to tell the truth i dont know have you tried asking in the sensation forum i am afraid i would cause more harm than good i dont know anything about your phone you didnt try to put a vivid rom on your phone did you

OK ,fe, was worth a try, will give the other forum a go. Thanks again

Alternate Instructions
Please note: this will not work on the RAIDER / Holiday -- only the HTC Vivid for ATT.
The reason is that this requires a HBOOT update, which is specific to the phone, and is signed per carrier.
Copy VIVID_ICS_OTA_ROOTED_CWM.zip to your external SD card
From CWM, flash the VIVID_ICS_OTA_ROOTED_CWM.zip
Put the PH39IMG.zip on your SD card, then reboot to fastboot
Re-lock your bootloader with fastboot, then reboot back into HBOOT
Flash the PH39IMG.zip from HBOOT
Remove PH39IMG.zip from SD card (or remove the SD card so that you can enter fastboot)
Enter fastboot again, and re-unlock bootloader
To get CWM re-installed you can either: a) fastboot flash recovery again OR b) Head to my thread and download the update PH39IMG clockwork installer, put that on your external SD, and boot to HBOOT then install it.

Going back to stock?
Right now, going back to stock Gingerbread or even ICS shouldn't be that hard.
There are two methods:
Restoring to Gingerbread
This can be accomplished by flashing a special PH39IMG.zip
It will restore system, boot, and recovery all back to factory shipping stock.
HBOOT will not be downgraded (not possible).
Go here for instructions/downloads: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23242239#post23242239
Click to collapse
Restoring to ICS
This can also be accomplished, but it will be a two-step process.
First, you would use CWM to install a (soon to be created) update.zip that would install an unrooted stock ICS rom.
Then you will install a PH39IMG.zip that will remove clockwork and flash boot back to stock also.

Since you have CWM installed, you must have unlocked your bootloader, so all you need to do is flash the boot.img file from the CM10.1 zip file in fastboot usb mode and you should be good to go.

Its not a stupid mistake at all. Please refrain from calling it stupid either because that was not the mistake. The mistake was that you didnt flash the boot.img. Just extract the boot.img fro the CM10.1 and put it with your platform-tools in your SDK folder. Then, in command prompt, navigate to the SDK folder. Reboot your phone into fastboot.
Type: fastboot devices <---------- to make sure your phone is detected
then: fastboot flash boot boot.img <---- assuming you did not change the boot image name, in which was just replace the second boot with watever you changed it to. DO NOT FORGET THE .img AT THE END

dude.... u have CWM, u have bootloader unlocked. Place your boot.img file from the CM10.1 in the platforms-tools folder in your sdk folder (which you MUST have downloaded when u unlocked your bootloader). Navigate to the platform-tools folder in cmd and then type the lines of code.

At OP, the thing i said to do does not even require S-OFF. With S-OFF you can just flash the ROM and your good.
It seems I'm running into the same problem. I went through the steps here but I still can't get the phone to boot. I did S-OFF and I have CWM running as well on the phone it just wont boot any ROM... It just kinda loads endlessly

[Q] Clockwork Mod to 4EXT recovery

Hey guys,
Before I get flame at, let me point out a few things
1.) I've been searching throughout the forum in and out to find the answer to my question but I have failed so.
2.) I'm using a custom firmware by nikhil007mmus Jelly Bean 4.1 on my HTC Incredible S
3.) Recently I was curious about new firmware from PACman. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2105869
Hence my question is,
I'm using the original ClockworkMod Recovery v5.0.2.0, and I found out PACman firmware need to be flash using 4EXT recovery.
I've tried to install 4EXT Recovery, followed ALL the steps provided by alot of people, but everytime after finished installing all the settings and configuration, when I boot up my recovery it is still on ClockworkMod
Why is this so? What did I do wrong? D:
In need of serious guidance or help here

You need to have adb and fastboot installed in your computer.. if you are using windows you need the htc usb drivers as well
are you on windows?
Just install the 4EXT recovery app from the play store. Follow the steps and it will flash it for you.
Is your device unlocked?
Wow, this is some crazy in-depth **** goin' on!
I am on windows, mind to lay down all the things I need and the steps to follow?

extract the recovery.img file and place it in C:\android-sdk\platform-tools\recovery.img
Open up command prompt and type:
cd \android-sdk\platform-tools
Now, make sure it detects your android:
fastboot devices
You'll see a line with a serial number, you're good to go (remember you need to be in fastboot mode while you do all of this, Vol. Up + Power while off)
Now, just flash the recovery.img

Thanks for the reply again lol,
and yeah I've flashed it to a custom rom lol.
By downloading recovery zip file you mean going into 4EXT website and download it down?
Once I extract it out, I need to put inside my phone's SD card right? I'm pretty lost at this part now.
I got how you mean by doing all this in the fastboot mode (The white screen with lines of words and THREE androids below the screen, correct?)
And I'm not sure about flashing the recovery.img, oh god..

In the bootloader go fastboot USB, I think you need debugging on but not certain. Then your ready to type command.
Sent from my Incredible S using xda premium
Connect your phone to your computer via usb (Make sure usb debugging is checked on the phone)
Open a command prompt window
type the following
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot
Oh okay sweet, so I still need to go to 4EXT to download the file first before proceeding right?
No need am attaching the latest 4EXT TOUCH Recovery Zip file
Extract and follow instructions above.
Also dont forget to check the md5 of the .img file. You brick your device if you flash a corrupt recovery
If it works click "Thanks"
Please report if it works and if it does..please edit the title of your thread and added a '[Solved]' to it in the begining
Okay thanks alot! I will try it along the week, I'm kinda busy with daily work schedule recently,

These steps are manual steps on how to do them and if u just want 4EXT Recovery, then you can download the 4EXT Recovery App. The app will download the proper files as well as flash the recovery once the download is finished.

It's in the Rom zip, assuming your not s-off it must be flashed separately
You can check if your s-off by going to hboot, toward the top it will say s-off or s-on...which basically means security off/on - its another level of security HTC added on above the bootloader

It says s-on
so what do i do from here?
Put your boot.img into the folder which your fastboot and adb are and then open a terminal to the folder. Then put your phone into fastboot by entering the bootloader. Then type fastboot devices to see if your device is connected to the computer. If it comes up with your serial number continue if not try again. Then type fastboot flash boot.img and then go to recovery and reflash the rom.

yea bro i had the same issue. first thing redownload the cm10 rom. sometimes you can get a bad dl. second you have to take the boot.img and flash it using fastboot. once you do that perform the wipes. then immediantly flash the cm10 rom from recovery. that should work. if you deleted the recovery witch is hard to do lol. u will have to use odin. hope i help

Download either TWRP or WCX recovery. As long as your phone can get to the bootloader, you can get into Fastboot and flash the recovery again. Make sure the recovery is in the same folder where you have the adb.exe and fastboot.exe. Open up a command prompt, then change directory to where your fastboot and adb are. Type in fastboot flash recovery "recovery".img where "recovery" would be the name of the recovery file you download. This will flash pretty quickly. Once you get to that point, you probably are S-On so you need to make sure to extract the boot.img from the ROM you downloaded. Use either winrar or 7zip to extract the boot.img to the same location where you have the fastboot.exe and adb.exe. Then go to the command prompt again and change directories to the same folder where you have fastboot and adb. Type in fastboot flash boot boot.img. I usually would run this 3 times to make sure it loads properly. Once that is done reboot the phone again.
Sorry I used it on the HTC evolution 4g and it worked so I figured it would work for vivid
