I created an sdext with rom mgr and usaully take it from 2 to 3 with amon ra. Confirm ext 3 with partition tool.
Lately I have lost ext three times. Not sure why.
I have used DT and went to a rom that has auto a2sd and maybe that did it. Don't know if DT has been reinstalled off of one the roms I flash between. Next time I opened the Jave app to see a blank sdcard. Deleted that app. This time I opened Quick boot and and went into CWMod recovery and did a basic bu. Bu completed but could not boot, hung on X. Saw that sdext wont mount.
Restore seems to go ok, but at bottom of recovery screen it says:
E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
(File exists)
Error mounting /sd-ext/!
Skipping format...
E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
(File exists)
Can't mount /sd-ext/!
Third time now and wondering what might be causing it.
I have sdformatter and can make another ext 3 partition and copy sd backup from pc to phone. Did that last time. Maybe rom mgr has been having issues. I don't do anything with rm I always boot into recovery. May need to go to amon_ra 1.9a full time.
Maybe stop using sdext and try ModInstallLocation, but heard that was no longer in Market.
Under MyPhone with MIUI .5 it shows sdext, but empty
MIUI .5 did load, don't know why it did and MicroMod 2.10 didin't, maybe too much mem used in the desire rom.
Under Quick System it shows ext as 458 and 323 free. Makes no sense. Maybe just the last reading it had. Internal free 69mb.
Maybe I just need to mount thru adb: mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2. Not sure exactly how to type the syntaxes on sdk stuff.
I am not at home so can't see if I can mount sd thru pc or recovery or open sdformatter and see what it says.

Can run DT which is not supported on MicroMod, I believe. I thought when you wipe and flash the ext is formatted and restored so DT would be removed if there.
I ran DT zipalign and it was ok. That was the only option to do other than Dalvik to sd. So do I have an ext or not?
I am cconfused on DT with different roms. I like MM 2.10 and would like to use it.
BTW: TB does not show an sd-ext either
Well, I restored an MIUI .5 bu and it works. Did a bu and showed ext backed up. But TB and Root Explorer show no ext info, mem size.
How can i read the 512 Mb storage from my Nexus One ??

You can't.
At best you can read some of the /data and /cache partitions without root, and all /data /system /boot /cache with root. You can't read splash1, you can't read radio, you can't read misc (and hboot), etc.
If you mean "why am I not getting 512MB of storage" - it's because you're getting it, but it's not all for you. Actually, most of it isn't for you, and you get 196MB out of it. That's how it is.
I wanted to read it, because i think my nv_data.bin in the order /efs is corrupt.
When i flash a new rom to my phone, it works at about 30-60 min or until the phone get in sleep mode. Then the phone can't read anymore my sim-card.
Flashing a new rom, the sim card detects again.

This is no Vibrant, and there is no /efs directory AFAIK - just checked.
ROM directories are read-only except for /data, so this doesn't look like SW error. Your phone's HW might be bad.

Not sure. Most probably not - AFAIK this is only sockets and connector, and this board doesn't contain logic.

I have a Motorola Milestone 1 (A853) with Open Recovery 1.46 on a 16GB card. I've been using this to try new roms for over 2 years now. Everything was fine until I tried to create an ext 2 partition using MiniTool Partition Wizard, but things went sideways. Needless to say I wiped the card, created a new 10GB Primary Partition on it and a 4 GB ext2 for further usage. Then, I restored backup items on the card (pictures etc.) plus a fresh new version of Open Recovery. Now, every time I am at the Recovery menu and try to apply sdcard:update.zip I get this message:
E:Can't open cache/recovery/command (<-- this is nothing new - seen it many times before but still able to boot into open recovery)
-- Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
(Invalid argument)
E:Can't mount SDCARD:update.zip
Installation aborted
.. any ideas what to do?
It seems like your phone dont mount the sdcard properly.
Try out a 2ndboot OR. (there is one from kabaldan and one from FuFu)

When the card worked before, it was formatted using NTFS and both Windows and the phone could see it. Now, the 10 GB partition is NTFS and it has the additional 4 GB ext2 partition. Windows sees it, the phone does not.

NTFS?
Replace it with FAT32. Then it should work.
In the link you provided check step 9 (though FAT32 should work fine even with 2GB cards)
Ok - so reformatted 10GB partition to Fat32 and loaded OpenRecovery again to root of sd card - same error. I might also mention that I tried Fat32 on another smaller (2GB) card with an ext2 partition and it gave the same error. I'm beginning to believe that this phone has a problem with multi-partition sd cards?
Just tried the original way - one partition using NTFS ... same error. Frustrating .. over 3 days on this now ...
NTFS and Android can not work.
Unless someone included ntfs-3g into the kernel - but that would be a madman's work...
Delete every partition off your sd card, boot up Android, it will prompt you to format it, do it.
Copy recovery (OpenRecovery directory + update.zip) to sd card, try booting to recovery.
If it works resize FAT partition created by android to make space for an ext partition, boot Android again to see if it's ok with the changes.
Solved - if anyone is trying create an additional ext2 partition remember that BOTH the FAT32 and EXT2 must be created as PRIMARY. The app I was using defaulted to logical ...

After two days of research and attempts, I finally gave up and decided to ask for direct help.
So, a week ago I rooted an Orange-branded Ace and flashed a few ROMs over the next 3-4 days to try to find the one that could suit better.
However, I screwed up something cause at some point in the process the internal sdcard was not seen anymore.
I mean, I can still go in Recovery or Download mode, flash stuff through Odin, boot without problems and use my phone.
Although, any direct access to internal storage is forbidden.
So, no rooting.
Both 2e and 3e CWM can't mount sdcard.
The type of messages I get :
When I pick "apply update from sdcard" -> E:Failed to mount /sdcard (No such file or directory)
When I rebbot after flashing -> -- Appling Multi-CSC... Installing Multi-CSC. Can't access to '/system/csc/whatever/system/'.
No way to get a USB connection either (different computer were tried), all with drivers correcting installed.
Also tried to get to the storage mass with MiniTool partition Wizard or through Disk management, but nothing.
Factory reset is useless, as well as any recovery's wiping process.
No sdcard formatting is possible.
I flashed several stock firmwares, went all the way back to Froyo, but nothing.
I wanted to try and flash a rooted stock rom, but couldn't find any /:
Hopefully one of you will come up with the fix.

Sdcard is an external memory, and yes you can't manage it without root permissions so when you connect your phone via USB to your pc you can't see your internal memory partition, only the external (micro sd-card).
Maybe your sdcard is corrupted, try to format it with an USB adapter and then try again

Although, I'm afraid I might not have been clear.
I haven't mounted any microSD so far and I've always been able to access to /mnt/sdcard (before screwing up).
Now, after flashing anything on the device, trying to access to My Files - or whatever file manager - will result in a dead end, since no sdcard is seen by the device itself (so, for example, I have no access to DCIM, or Music, Movies, anything).
I can't format the device cause:
- the computer doesn't see it (although drivers installed), not even from Disk Manager
- general disk-formatting/wiping softwares don't see it
- formatting from Recovery is impossible

Use an USB sd-card adapter!

But you're talking about the microSD, right?
What I mean is that, at the moment, I don't have one mounted in the phone.
I've had one before having problems, but I messed up partitions, so had to format everything anyways.
But, right now, it's out of the phone.
Also, as I was saying, I cannot access common folders like Music or Downloads, nor can I drop the update.zip on the internal memory to root, and I don't think any of this has anything to do with external storage /:

All the folders you are saying, they are in sd-card folder so.... and ROOT.zip must be in SD-CARD to flash it....
Did you try to do wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache via stock rom then when you finished to flash the stock¿?

The Galaxy Ace does NOT have an internal sdcard. /sdcard is the external sdcard.

Hi inthered, I think this is getting confusing.
Sd card is the external storage, where you usually have the data, music, photos, etc. Is this sd card that your Myfiles see, if it isnt there Myfiles cant see anything, cause it cant access internal storage.
To access internal storage you must be rooted and have an app that could do that. I believe you said that your phone inst rooted, so you can only see external storage and seems that it isnt there. So you cant access all that folders ( music, etc,) cause they arent there
Have to mount SD first. You can format SD with Mini tool partition Wizard, in FAT32, and use it only as external storage.
Or you can create in this external storage one partition to help manage the internal storage, but that partition wont be seen by normal apps, like Myfiles, ou PC explorer, and you need to be rooted and everything else that didnt worked first time [but it works, I guarantee that]
To finish, internal storage can only be seen in rooted devices and with some apps ( never Myfiles)
Sorry if I wrote too much, but everyone was right, it had to be better explained

Perhaps someone can help. I've read a lot of the great content here but I've hit a wall.
A few weeks ago my ovation device was running cm11+cwm but began random rebooting. Clearing the cache+dalvik only helped briefly.
I tried an upgrade with a twrp 3.0.0.0 (using the amazing multiboot recovery SD), but it hung formatting the cache partition (I waited about an hour). Tried again, same thing.
I used adb shell to fix a blank file system type on the cache partition but was only successful in creating an ext2 partition there. I got cm13 booting but it trebuchet kept crashing. I tried twrp again and flashing a different image and tried a factory reset. Big mistake.
Now when I try to boot any recovery SD it doesn't boot all the way. Using adb shell, my dmesg shows that umount is hanging. No emmc partitions seem to be mounted. The partition data exists in dmesg but calls to parted hang. Mkfs.ext4 also hangs (naturally).
So I've lost the ability to fully boot recovery SDs (they are probably hanging when they try to mount the emmc partitions). As such I can't flash a recovery. I have a clockwork backup that has a system.ext.tar file in it, but I don't know how to use it at this point.
I can't mount /rom so I'm worried.
Is my emmc shot? Is there any way to tell?

Would a noEMMC SD be safe?
I guess what I was hoping to do was use adb to completely wipe and restore the device to a sane state, which would include repartitioning and formatting the emmc partitions. Is that possible? Maybe not at this point.
I guess another question would be: if my NookHd+ emmc is technically working but currently unrecoverable, is it possible for me to safely use a NOemmc SD card? There seem to be some warnings about those wrecking emmc but I can't find any technical explanation as to why.
Based on further diagnostics, my emmc is one of the faulty Samsung models and so I think the crashes and ultimate recovery failures were the failure of the emmc.
I've successfully installed 10.1 noEMMC on one microsd. Runs Okay but a lot of apps I am interested in don't work on android from this vintage.
I tried to install 4.4.4/CM11 noEMMC but it can't mount the necessary partitions as per the install process on the iamafanof Wordpress page. I also see SELinux errors in the twrp recovery log. Does anyone know how to overcome this mount issue that apparently impacts some people.

I used adb shell to connect to the twrp 2.8.0.0 that runs when you boot the CM11 noEMMC SD boot/install image and compared the Linux system differences between that and the system you can see connected to the cwm 6.0.4.? That runs when you boot the CM10.2 noEMMC SD boot/instal image.
First things first: cm10 noEMMC remaps the internal emmc as /dev/block/emcblk1 and the external microsd card slot as blk0 (this is swapped from the norm and correct for a situation where you want to install to the SD as though it were the internal device).
CM11 noEMMC does not do this. I think that the author assumed that if your emmc is bricked then the system won't see your /dev/block/emmcblk0 at all so your external sdcard will take over that number. Clearly that's true for some, but it's not true for me.
I also began poking around the post boot script (in /sbin) to see how the cm11 noEMMC prepares the partitions on the Sd card and to see what Command it uses to create the data partition
Here's the kicker. I was able to mount my emmc rom partition and copy off all that data with an adb pull. I was able to initialize the cache partition (9) as a blank ext4 partition. I was even able to initialize the user partition (10) as ext4... Though I'm not sure that's right. I began mounting partitions and got greedy and tried to mount the whole partition map and it failed.
So, there's something wrong with (at least) one of my partitions. When recovery tries to mount the partitions, mount hangs and recovery fails to fully load. The noEMMC sd card got me around this because it doesn't try to mount any of the emmc partitions let alone all of them.
So, does anyone know if I can make new file systems on every partition and if by luck I'm able to get a twrp or cwm to fully load, will flashing a stock recovery put data on all those partitions?

Sorry to resurrect this thread, But it exactly speaks to my issue. You mention that the blk0 and blk1 devices need to be switched for cm11 image to mount partitions properly. Does anyone know specifically where this might be done. Can files of the existing nov4 cm11 image be altered to reverse these two devices?

Could you please teach me how to mount EMMC partitions and retrieve data specially /factory partition with ADB?
I can only boot my Nook HD+ with with bootable SD card with TWRP or CWM.
