Is the Droid 3 really CDMA and GSM capapble? - Motorola Droid 3

I'm contemplating getting a Droid 3, but I'm confused what it supports.
Does it really work on CDMA (Verizon) and GSM (AT&T) networks? Are 3G speeds enabled for both networks?
I've checked the wiki page, and there is also a mention of the Droid Milestone 3 (the international version of Droid 3). Which phone (Droid 3 or Droid Milestone 3) has the CDMA+GSM functionality?

I'm on T-Mobile now but only got edge because of the lack of 2100 MHz.
Sent from my XT862 using XDA

The Droid 3 (XT862) has both CDMA and GSM, however it takes some work to get it going on AT&T or T-Mobile in the US, and still has to be SIM unlocked to be used on any GSM network. Most of the international variants are GSM only, with the chinese XT883 being the exception. I believe it has CDMA too.

What USB cable are you using? It has to be a Motorola one. Did you boot using the power + M and select I think it's AP Fastboot?

ok tried AP fastboot, still says <waiting for device>
does it need to be in a certain usb mode? usb debug = on, tried both pc mode and usb mass storage - nothing?

help?
im actually trying to do this fix because for some reason my droid doesnt detect 3g towers on my provider after I went to the 4636 menu and selected "select radio band" for which USA was the only option.
It didnt actually detect any provider after I selected it by mistake, but after hard reset, it detects 2g towers.
I was thinking this fix would reset/re-enable the 3g tower detection.

nobody? I dont have 10 posts yet so I cant post in the OG thread....
also is updating to the newer OTA 960 update going to refresh/reflash this?

Are you following the step by step guide in the Dev section? Make sure your computer has the latest drivers for D3 and that you're using your Moto provided USB cable.

hi, yes Im stuck on step 6 which is after typing that "moto-fastboot flash radio radio.img" it says <waiting for device>
I dont have the OG cable but using one from the xoom which I would assume is the same.
I had to install the latest drivers to get it to root.
not sure what else is wrong.
oh and the OTA update applied itself but didnt fix this.

Does the phone work both CDMA and GSM simultaneously e.g. can receive calls on both carriers at the same time or by switching from one band to another e.g. when it uses GSM, CDMA is off and vice versa?

Im pretty sure if you flashed the radio hack to make it work in the US, it would not work... because you would have to flash to Verizon Radio back to use the CDMA
You can use both CDMA and GSM at the both time.... you are either in CDMA Mode or GSM mode. If you are in GSM mode, CDMA mode is off..

From what I was told on xda if you have a Verizon droid 3 even if it has a bad ESN you can buy the unlock code and then flash the radio that they say use and it will work on at&t and T-Mobile so looks like that's what I'm doing on the 1st I have 4 droid 3s with bad esns so looks like I'm going to have my hole family on at&t the 1 st And am happy as hell over it the droid 3 is the best phone when it comes to getting them to work on other networks in my book I don't know of any other Verizon phones that let you sim unlock and flash a new radio even with a bad ESN and still work on at&t.

no problem Out of interest , which method did you use?
I used both of them, and i got same unlock pin code in either case. I think that second one (one with pushing .sh file) is a little bit easier to read. Greetings, and thank you once again.

I used both methods also and got same code. now if there was a way to unlock the device once and not have to unlock everytime a sim is changed that would be awesome.

I tried to follow the instructions however I never got the unlock code or I am just being dumb when I use method 2 my results are identical to your 2nd screenshot,
there is no 3rd line of text?
Using the first option what I see is very similar to your first screenshot with Vodafone instead of O2. But again no code that I can see.
I have tried inserting simcards from t-mobile and O2 however I never get asked to enter a code. Not that I have a code to enter, I wish I could work out where I am going wrong.

The phone is a friends who got it from someone it was on vodafone rru and had the branding on startup and shut down, before I rooted it and put on CWM and Nameless Rom, but when I try my t-mobile sim card it doesn't get a signal for when, unfortunately I do not know if this was an issue as it wasn't supplied to me with a sim card.
I will contact my friend and see if he can supply me his sim card so I can test it. Hopefully as you say it is unlocked. Not sure when i will get the sim card to be able to test it though.

hmmm when you say doesnt get signal.... i wonder if its because its a vodafone branded desire C... it will have everything for Voda hard wired in the device... and wont have any t-mo APNs etc. TMo arent exactly friendly when it comes to APN info unlike other providors like O2 & Voda
I wonder if that is the issue is that no data APNs are selected....

If you want to get your unlock code, you need to flash a Custom Rom, NAmeless For Example.
Once thats been done, you can install busybox and follow the instructions and you get your code.
i managed to succesfully unlock my Desire C
its a stock phone, bought it from Asda UK - on T-Mobile network
although it doesent have any t-mobile branding or carrier apps or boot up logo like most phones have
after unlocking my bootloader and using r1-superuser Root, it went very smooth
but one thing i did notice that seems odd, my IMEI is different in the command shell
to what is displayed in the phone
xxxxxxxxx584298 - displayed from phone
xxxxxxxxx5842901 - displayed on the command shell

[Q] Need help in getting stock rom installed for Nokia Lumia 520

Hello,
I have a Nokia Lumia 520 ATT gophone. I had to unlocked and using it with Bell in Canada. Everything is fine except for tethering.
After going through forums, I realized the phone needs to be unbranded as well. I have downloaded Rogers ROM and Tried using Nokia Care suite to recover.
But haven't been successful. I keep getting message 'recovery failed'
Is there a way to get stock rom for the lumia 520 and do a clean install?
Appreciate your help.
Big fan of XDA!
I think you need to use either NSU to do a dead phone flash or WPHelper to do a flash.
I would use a generic ROM rather than carrier specific ones. Yes, generic doesn't have amber update, but it will come at the end of the month.

Hi, What is WPHelper? and where can I find generic ROM for Nokia 520?
Thanks for your help.
Finally able to get flashing work!
Thanks for the help. I was able to flash in dead phone mode. Tried Rogers ROM, but had challenges with tethering.
After few other ROMs, I have tried
059S2D1 RM-915 LIGHT SWAP ENG GLOBAL
This one worked like a charm! doesn't seem to be tied to any carrier. Not sure if this is the stock though.
Tethering also works.

Anything that says SWAP is a generic ROM came with a new motherboard. It has a basic set of software. The tech is suppose to change the product code after to make sure it matches the original code.
I am using a swap firmware as well for my 521 and am wondering if I will get Amber update.

Sprint S4 Carrier Flashing/Akey/SPC

So i have seen many guys charging a good amount of money for this, DFS is charging like 50$ per phone. Many guys are struggling to get thr phone working since they are unable to flash Akey/SPC which is needed for some carriers like Reliance, TATA in India atleast.
I'm not going to put usual diag setup stuff right now, or may not able to update it at all.
The below commands should be sent step by step as mentioned through DFS or CDMA workshop or any other tools which you prefer to use. Also you need to first send the 16 digit password for your phone model. I believe for L720 it is "2012112120131219"

----To change the A-Key to anything, in the below case, akey decimal to be flashed is 11111111133333333785 (the akey hex will be: 9A3298B4E238A719)

In the above cmds, if you take a close look at the last 16 characters in the 2nd last line and the mentioned akey hex, you maybe observe that the akey hex in the cmd is in a reverse manner. You can change generate your akey online or via regular tools like DFS and arrange it in the similar manner to flash. You might need to downgrade your modem in order to get this working, please post here if it works without downgrading the modem.
This has been tested on 2xGalaxy Victory and one Sprint L720, so please test and report if this works for you.

Good write up. I flash phones and make tutorials. Some people on here claim they can do this and do that but, haven't written a clear guide yet on how to do it. Lol But, my guides are free and to the public.
Also this should be in the general section. Development is only for roms, etc.
as for resetting the SPC, you will need to downgrade the modem from MF9 to MDL or MDC... i have tried it with MF9 and didn't work...
thanks for sharing

anyway thanks again hopefully this works.
Many parameters on a number of phones are write only, so you won't be able to read them.

So I got my phone working on my cdma carrier in Indonesia. But now I am concerned about flashing New roms esp using Odin and factory resetting. Will I lose my settings with a factory reset?
How do I flash roms and still keep my network settings?

I have a Sprint SPH-L720. I tired to use the command 4B1305000000000000000000303030303030 it accepts it but responds back with a differnt command and the SPC doesn't change.
I did downgrade the baseband to both MDC and MDL with it still not working.
Any ideas how to change the SPC to 000000?
Been awhile but I thought I posted an update. Downgraded to the MDC modem and tired again and it solved my problem.
Thank you for the awesome post.

You need a PC software such as DFS to send these command to your phone. You also have to enable diag mode in your phone before connecting it to the PC's USB.

Diagnostic Mode for Moto G after flashing CM 12.1

Hi!
I'm rather amateur than expert, but from few days I'm trying to unlock new bands (frequencies) to my Moto G XT1064 (make it to work with european carriers). I haven't managed to did it under the original system, so for now I have flashed CyanogenMod 12.1 for titan(Moto G 2014) and tried do that with changed system and kernel. But I have met unexpected problem : I cannot enter the Diagnostic Mode! Before system change it was sufficient to run BP Tools option from Bootloader menu, but now, no matter what I do, I can't make USB to work in DIAG MODE.
Can u help me? - How enter to DIAG MODE other way, or repair BP Tools?

Go to Phone information, tap on menu, then go to Select radio band. I see that you got the US version. You probably would have been better off getting the XT1063, which is the Global version.

Thanks, this is answer for my main problem(changing bands), but not for the question about DIAG MODE. Actually, I tried it earlier and was not satisfied with result - still got only EDGE mobile data transfer on my device. I want to try another ways to enable european bands - by changing values in non volatile memory - and to do that need to enter Diagnostic Mode...

Honestly, I've never even heard of a diagnostic mode on our phone.

You can try this though:

I still say that the XT1063 would have been a better option.

Well, as far as I know Diagnostic Mode allows your computer to use USB connection as COM port. It should be available on every phone with qualcomm processor - i.e. Moto G 2014. If you have original ROM and KERNEL, you can turn it on (on Moto G) by entering into bootloader and then choosing to boot in BP Tools Mode. The system should start normally, but when you plug your phone to computer, you should see "QC Diag Port" in device manager instead of "XT1064" or "Moto G Phone".
The link you have pasted leads to this link in the first post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/general/unlock-hspa-bands-moto-g-1700mhz-xt1032-t2878441
I did all steps, but there was no progress. In another thread I've read that there can be some limitations in original ROMs that are set to prevent you from unlocking new bands. It was said there to flash custom ROM, for example CM12.1, and then try unlocking again. So I did it, but now I've stuck on step 7. because I don't have "QC Diag Port" (cannot enable Diag Mode).
Yup, now I know that XT1063 with Global Bands would have been a better choice, but it so too late to change my decision, so can we stop mentioning that and focus on the problem?

Good news! I can't get it to work either. That means it's not just you.
Bad news! Unless someone else can come up with another way to enable those extra bands, you are stuck with those pesky domestic bands. Personally, I would have titled this thread differently. Something like "Enable Euro Bands on XT1064?" Might have gotten better responses.
When in doubt, choose Global.
Good luck.

Help for a noob

Hello, firstable congratulations to everyone to made an awesome forum, page, etc...
Im from Mexico and I have a HTC one M8 Sprint and I use it on GSM band
a guy sold me with a program named teamwin this program appears when I try to install the new version
I already have the 4.4.3 android version, 6.0 sense and 2.16.651.4 sofware version
and my doubt is can I make any modd to my celphone? I guess that's sounds pretty obviously but I'm new on the topic
I remember I can modd a sony ericsson telephones (like w600) but now Im so noob on the celphone topics.
I like learn new things and I only asking for your help, maybe if you can help me I appreciate that
All the links you can give me will be readed 100% for sure.:good:
So greetings for everyone and again please help me to get this cellphone a new life
Hold down power and vol up for several seconds to force a reboot. The moment the screen goes dark to reboot, let go of those buttons and only hold vol down. Don't let go, until you see a white screen with various info on it. This it the bootloader. If the phone simply reboots to OS or Safe Mode, you just had bad timing of the button combo. Repeat the process until you see the bootloader screen.
On the bootloader screen, does it say RELOCKED, UNLOCKED, or LOCKED near the top?
Does it say Software modified, or official?
Does it say s-off or s-on?

You need to update the firmware, to do much of any mods (like current ROMs).
You can do so by either:
1) Finding the proper stock nandroid and stock recovery, then OTA update to latest version.
2) Relock the bootloader, and use latest Sprint RUU (will wipe the phone).

In your first post, you ask about doing mods. Now you are saying you are afraid to. So I have no idea what your comfort level, what you are willing to accomplish, etc.
As long as you are willing to learn, put in some time reading and understanding, and follow instructions carefully, there isn't much to be afraid of. Any mods to the phone involve some risk. But the risk of permanent damage (a true "brick") are minimal. The worst that is likely to happen, is the phone fails to boot, and you may need to troubleshoot for an hour to 2 to get it back running. But that happens to just about anyone that mods phones, at some time or other. Its just part of the game.
But in the phone's current condition, something needs to be done by you, in order to update the phone in any way; whether it be by official means (RUU or OTA) or custom ROM. Otherwise, it will be stuck on Android 4.4.3 as it is now.

Not sure what you are asking, are you wondering if any additional hardware is needed? You will need a computer for either method I stated, plus the sync cable that came with the phone (or other charge/data cable). PC is required for Method #2.
Yes for sure Im reading the past days about the topic and the fears I guess its for my phone became to an expensive brick, but I want to do this, I sent you a PM and I read your answer sorry for do that.
And finally about the last quote, I mean the M8 its originally sprint (on the starts screen says) so I want to know if its possible make the unblock totally to use on any company of the world or the country (Mexico) above than GSM, maybe 3G or in the best way 4G

So it sounds like you already using the phone on Movistar, just not with 3G or 4G?
There is a mod to unlock bands, which seems to work on your Sprint CDMA version (from what I understand). But it requires s-off ($25 by sunshine app) and is a slightly more complicated mod: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/general/unlock-bands-qualcomm-device-phone-t2880239
So if you are unsure about doing what I've previously described; the mod to unlock bands is definitely the next level beyond that. Mods done with s-off are more risky, and can actually brick the phone (render it permanently unusable).
Whatever you do, do NOT try to flash another carrier/region versions radio, firmware, RUU, etc. in an attempt to change the band support. You may see some recommendations to that effect. But this does NOT work on the Sprint version, and will probably BRICK your phone.
Sorry I think I don't give my idea correctly, my English is not good.
I wonder if you can make my htc have the most updated software and if it is possible to use other phone network than the GSM because since I buyed (used) has the same software, the same HTC Sense and I could only use the internet GSM mobile network
My phone is

really I appreciate your help and therefore not want to lose by confusion or my bad english
then I hope this time to let me know if this is better for your
I'm trying to do my best

Updating the software is a completely separate matter from the phone's band support (3G and LTE bands the phone is compatible with).
I already told you how to update the software, in Post #4 above.
To see if the phone will work with your carrier's 3G or LTE network, you first need to know what 3G and 4G band (or bands) they use for each. Can't really do anything without that basic info. Either research online, or call your carrier and ask them. This is something you should have done before buying the phone; as changing to the proper band support is not always possible.

Sprint M8 supports 3G bands 850 and 1900.
Are you sure you entered your carrier's APN info correctly?
Did you try the SIM card in another phone, to make sure the SIM works for 3G?

yes I use the right APN settings but when I bought the guy who sold it to me also told me it was unblock for any company here in Mexico but the problem is that you could not upgrade because when the file is downloaded and is installed, the phone enters into recovery mode and can not be or I do not know if it's my mistake, you can not install at all
He say that if I upgrade or modify the phone I can lose part of the unblock of the phonel and it became unusable here in Mexico
I screwed a lot
I don't know what I did wrong on the process of re-stock the phone and now don't start.
only shows the white screen with HTC green logo.
I rememberd when I try to wipe I check all the options and "I swipe to wipe" later when the phone will be reboot
shows me a message about the superU and I install (because already has it)
I was scared and search about this and only found a way to enter on bootloader and says this
*Tampered*
*Relocked*
Well, 6 hours later I have this now:
*Tampered*
**Unlocked**
m8_WHL PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-3.18.0.0000
OS-2.16.651.4
eMMC-boot 2048MB
but when I unlock the bootloader (here's the tutorial of bootloader http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader)
I see the recovery mode once but when I try to do the next step (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2755657)
I can not start the recovery mode and I don't do any of progression
Also I can see an message saying me the phone hasn't any OS file so I guess that's the reason I can make it start, only turn on and shows the same white screen with HTC logo, I can entered to Bootloader and FASTBOOT but when I select recovery the phone returns to HBOOT and when I turn off and later turn on happen the same (entered directly to HBOOT screen)
Im a bit concerned about that I hope you can teach me how
*Edited now I can enter to recovery I relocked and unlocked again and I can enter again to recovery and bootloader, please help me to put the files of OS
maybe with a SD card?
Return to stock
Hi Erbat,
first of all it would be nice to get an overview of your device and its versions, you can do this by doing the fastboot command "fastboot getvar all"
The most important version wich you already have is your OS 2.16.651.4, everything what you try to flash to your device if you want to return to stock should match this number or it will mostly fail.
So at this point forget about the Guide with official OTA updates and root access, because its for 4.16.401.10 and you should mainly focus on returning to stock without root to get new updates (easier)
I dont know how much knowledge you already have but just to mention:
Every OS with 2.16.651.4 is for your Sprint version, this means all of the files without 651 will lead in the wrong direction.
Later when you use a RUU ("official" files to return to stock firmware) or a nandroid backup (stock backup created by other users), the files and backups you will find have to match exactly to your OS Version 2.16.651.4 to work.
So at the moment you should focus on returning your device back to stock firmware and OS first, after that you can recieve official OTA updates from HTC :good:
The tutorials/threads you should focus on are mainly these two:
[GUIDE][S-ON] Restore your (European) HTC One M8 back to stock
[tutorial] How to get back on stock with TWRP Stock Nandroid Backups
Edit: You can't use your recovery, because if i understood this right you got TWRP (a custom recovery) before and might have corrupted/deleted it, simply flash the newest version of TWRP 2.8.7.0 with the fastboot command "fastboot flash recovery *NAME-OF_RECOVERY*.img"
TWRP: http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/225/
(If i got anything wrong pls correct me ^^)

I can't do anything on cmd, my phone hasn't battery today and when I try to do fastboot getvar all say wating for your device and yesterday obviously don't say this
I need wait to 30%? I guess I have readed this before
Charge it up, restart everything (pc) and try again. You can use "fastboot devices" wich will list all devices connected in fastboot mode (ofc you must choose fastboot in bootloader menu first)
Next could be that you have HTC sync active witch might block something -> uninstall HTC sync
Otherwise you might have driver problems, if so, uninstall htc drivers and sync and reinstall HTC sync to get new drivers. -> uninstall sync only again (maybe reboot)
If all this does not work search for specific fastboot drivers for the M8 and try it with them

You should never wipe any of the partitions in the TWRP "Advanced" menu, unless you know exactly that they mean, and what the result will be (those options are called "Advanced" for good reason!). Even if the phone was properly working before, what you did was to wipe the OS (system partition) and make it stop working!
Further, you wiped any backup files and personal data that may have been on internal storage or the removable SD.
Simple rule when modding the phone: Do not experiment or make up your own solutions (will almost always fail and possibly make matter worse); and only do exactly what is directed to you from the proper guides, reputable "helpers", etc.

This guide has nothing to do with returning to stock, and is not for your version of the M8.
Nothing good can come of this; for what you are trying to do.
If you didn't know what you were doing, you should have stopped and asked. Learning and reading is good (and I applaud the effort), but don't do anything unless you are sure about it. In your case particular (due to your lack of knowledge/experience) I'd recommend not do anything unless we specifically direct you to. You seem to be going down the wrong roads, and just want to make sure we mitigate that now.

The phone needs to be powered on, and in bootloader-fastboot mode for any fastboot commands to work.
Charge the phone for a few hours, and try again.
We need to get fastboot working, to move forward at all.
