Double image & cant play music - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have searched the threads multiple times and always got only temporary answers.
I have had ppl tell me to CLEAR DATA under the apps --> Media storage.
It looks good after immediate bootup, but after 1 hr everything is now double or even triple.
Also the music files play only within a 30 minute timeframe, after that it only says "Can't play the track you requested"
Can anyone give me a permanent solution to this problem??
I am presently using ICS Stunner 1.4.26.1

Are you using the stock player? I've had this problem myself and i noticed that some temporary files were saved on my internal storage (with the music on my external). After i set my music folder as the default music folder it stopped duplicating everything. I haven't bothered to look for the duplicates, so i'm not sure where they're hiding at.

Yeah i really need help with this as well.

Any chance you are on speedmod? I had this problem as well. I think it's because in speedmod internal and external SD are switched.

Poweramp duplicating songs!

I have an HTC Raider from Rogers and I installed PowerAmp on it. After it completes the library scan, it shows every song twice. However, when I open up the stock music app, everything looks normal. All of my music is currently stored on the external SD card. I did try moving all of the music over to the internal SD and poweramp only showed the music files once. However, I don't want my music eating up all the space on my internal sd.
Anyone else encountered this problem and possibly have a solution?

Never had this problem... that's odd. Maybe you could contact the dev of that app. Many of them are really good about resolving issues with users.

I will try contacting them. Thanks!
PowerAMP's library management seems to be a bit rubbish. It wouldn't read about half of my Japanese ID3 tags, nor 1/4 of my Korean ones... It's a bit of a disaster.

I also have an HTC Raider from Rogers and have the exact same problem.
Did you ever hear back from the developers about this?
Have you tried making sure that ONLY your music folder is getting scanned (by manually selecting it in the settings), then going into the advanced settings and initiating a full wipe/rescan?
I'm on a Rogers Raider and have never had this problem, so it's a shot in the dark. Been using PowerAmp for over a year across three phones.

Using Nexus 4 with Android 4.2.2
I had this problem, uninstall it, clear your dalvik cache, reinstall it, select only your music folder, double check that you don't actually have duplicate files
Hi,
try this:
Open Settings in powerAmp > Folders and Library > Music Folders (scroll down & down to make sure you select only 1 Folder where your music is stored).
that fixes mine. Hope that fixes your problem.
Maybe have a closer look
I have the Nexus 4, too and just solved the problem.
The first thing I did when acqiring Poweramp was de-selecting everything but the "music" folder.
But then I noticed that there was not only a folder of that name in /storage/emulated/0, but also in /storage/emulated/legacy, which was still selected, causing the problem.
Deselected the second one and everything worked fine
duplicate songs
the dual listing of songs files etc is usually caused by the app scanning dual paths. Set your app to only scan one folder for your music.

Duplicate songs
Good morning....the problem is not with the device (android) it is with the file details.
1. The problem I think you are having is that albums appear twice, with songs being split between the dual enties?:
2. On your PC right click on the music file (song) and click on properties.
3. Go to details and make sure all of the songs in the album have all of the details exactly the same...contributing artist, album etc. if not change it.
4.Delete the album form your device and copy the newly modifed files to your sdcard.
I do quite a bit of music recording and editing...this occurs alot.
I hope this helps.
Edit: <wrong>
The problem appears to be with ICS mounting internal and external SD cards twice.
Every ICS ROM I've tried has them mounted:
/sdcard
/emmc
/mnt/sdcard
/mnt/emmc
</wrong>
<irrelevant>
I don't know why both are mounted twice.
</irrelevant>
It seems that this will never be fixed, the best solution I've found is to use different applications for music/pictures.
For music I use Poweramp.
For pictures I use Quickpic.
Both of them scan your media separately to the android media scanner and they're smart enough to not scan both mounts of each SD card.
Edit:
Can't be my original reason as you only get one copy of the media first time round, then after each reboot or mount as USB drive you get another and another and another.
I guess the media scanner doesn't compare newly discovered files against its existing database, it just adds new entries every time it runs which is why the list keeps growing.
Anyhow, Poweramp and Quickpic are the way to go. Poweramp is worth the money it costs, but if you can't/don't want to pay for it then you'll have to go through the abundance of other music players to see if they avoid the duplicate file problem.
The solution is to use power amp for music...in its settings you can select which folders to scan and hence over come the problem
I have this same problem. every music track (not albums) is duplicated three times. file explorers show a single file but its three files in a music player. but sometimes it goes away, by itself (or I don't know what I did). its not a big deal for me since it won't treat these three duplicates as three different tracks, instead it treats all three as a single file so there is no repeating when playing an album.

Imho it depends on the rom.
I used ICSSGS 4.2 quite a while where this bug was present.
When I switched to CM9 nightly the bug vanished - until today it is definitely due to multiple scanning of the external SD.
Hopefully it just because of switching to the latest version.
If so I would recommend to use CM9 nightly where this bug should not be present anymore.

Hmmm ...
So this whole scenario has happened to my Samsung "twice" this month (Nov 2012) and the other Samsung on my account, 3 times this month. I have to admit though since my Samsung's are only 2+ months old, the one thing I did when I got both phone(s) was alter ever single album detail! I'm starting to wonder if this is the culprit but the thought of having to revert all of the album details to their original state, then delete/then re-load music back on BOTH phones (4-6 hours of work) .. I'm sooooooooooooooooo dreading this.:crying:
greatdaneduke: Did your suggestion fix your phone (permanently) and did this eliminate your problem entirely over the last 7 months too?

Hi SSHollywood.
greatdaneduke was wrong about what causes the problem.
The assumption made in step 1 (if you can call it a step, it's not really a step, but it is next to the number 1) wasn't the case for me or anyone else I've spoken to with the issue.
I know what greatdaneduke is talking about and I have seen this before, but it's not the case here. What greatdaneduke was saying is that when you write the tags for mp3s, sometimes it's written to the file slightly differently, then this causes the program you're using (Android in this case) to see some of the files from 1 album and some of the files from another album, even though when you look at it, it looks as though they all say Insert Album Name Here. The only cure to this is to delete the mp3 tags and rewrite them from scratch, and hopefully this time they are all written the same way.
The actual problem is this...
It's a developer based ROM which has bugs.
One of these bugs is the way the media scanner updates the media library.
The media scanner will run every time the phone boots up/reboots or when the phone is disconnected from a computer.
Each time this happens you get another listing of your music in your library.
There are 3 ways of fixing this, listed from least expensive/most infuriating to most expensive.
1. Wipe your media data before every reboot and before every time you connect to a computer, this way when your phone boots up or is disconnected from a computer it will have a blank media library to update. This will get annoying and you'll probably forget to wipe the data each time.
To do this you need to:
a. Go into Applications -> Media Storage.
b. Force Stop Media Storage.
c. Clear Data Media Storage.
2. Use Poweramp for music (there's a trial version but it only gives full features for 14 days) and use Quickpic for photos. Both these apps use their own media scanners so they don't have the duplicates problem.
3. Buy a new phone. Samsung Galaxy S original is now 2 and a half years old, it's very dated and developer support is dropping fast.

You suggest buying the first gen Galaxy? Ive got the skyrocket and I think that ICS is dog doo.
I never had this problem when I had gingerbread. I sent my phone in for warranty replacement and it came with ICS already installed. Getting multiple music entries all the time except only one entry will play all duplicates don't play, rendering my shuffle function useless as I get the silent tracks the majority of the time.
Guess its time to finally root. I was on the fence but with ICS it seems obvious that rooting is the only way I'll get an enjoyable phone experience.

No, what I meant was it's time upgrade to a new phone because I assume they currently have a Galaxy S 1 which is an old phone.
As this question is posted in the Galaxy S 1 forums I'm guessing anyone commenting on the thread currently has a Galaxy S 1.
Personally I've moved on to the Galaxy S 3.

Please edit - Google Play Music = Music.
sdcard/media
I had this problem with some tracks too - I used ES File Explorer (although the stock 'Files' app may work too) to search the whole phone for one of the duplicated track names. It found one in my 'music' folder on my SD card (where I'd copied the track to) and another in "/sdcard/media". I don't know what that directory is for - it doesn't have all my music in it, and it seems to have some I can't remember listening to, so it doesn't look like a cache. Either way, I deleted the files in it, and the problem is solved.
I'm guessing the music player could solve this by only scanning certain areas of your system (which avoids getting ringtones and app sounds into the music lists), but AFAIK, Rocket Player (my music player of choice) doesn't seem to be able to do this
Either way - if your music player is showing duplicate tracks, check to make sure you have actually only got one copy of it on your phone! Hope that helps someone out

hi, it's strange ..
I am still with LS7, I have not tested yet.
but I had a similar problem with ics, it was infact google music and its cache ..
test reading your duplicate songs with the stock player, if the duplicate song will not open, it is almost certain that it comes from gMUSIC ...
Otherwise, if you're on they are copied to your external sd, have you tried to delete, reboot and see if you still have the problem?
ps: you're not in the right section, here is themes and applications

Yeah. On ICS I had same problem but the duplicate didn't work. But unmounting sdcard and clearing data for media storage solved the problem. But on XXLSA both the duplicate and original are playing just fine.
Edit: I deleted one of the duplicated media files and it rendered the other useless, i.e. the music player could not play it.

Music on external SD Card not recognised on AOSP ROMs. Symlink?

I've been using the XT for almost a year now and I have noticed this pretty annoying bug on AOSP ROMS.
I have about 10 gb of music in a folder called Music on my external SD card. They can be read fine with a file browser or Poweramp, but most of the other music players (Apollo and Google music) don't seem don't seem to recognize the folder, or any media from the external SD card for that matter. I have also tried creating a symlink from the ext-sd to the internal memory to no avail. From what I've read, FAT32 doesn't support symlinks.
Is there any solution to this? I'm pretty tired of using poweramp.

This trick works for me for other custom roms:
1) Get "Rescan Media" from the Play Store (it's by Aditya Talpade) but dont run it yet.
2) Go into Settings->Apps->All and scroll down to Media Storage. Click it. Hit Clear Data and then Force Stop.
3) Run "Rescan Media" app.
Then wait... phone may get hot for a bit. If that doesn't work (it's happened to me before), I would do the Step 2, restart the phone, then do step 3. Then let the phone sit for like 20 minutes.
Good luck

I believe most camera apps have the option now to store the files on an external card. I guess that would go for pictures and videos.
I'm not sure what you mean by music.
There is no default music on the phone, so anything you put on the phone will probably come from yourself (And you can choose where to store it soooo )

Can Apps be installed in the SD card? Seems Sony only has this feature for lower end phones. I have not seen evidence the Z3c allows to move apps to the SD. I am guessing that will be under Settings-->Apps-->(select an app?)
Thanks

So it seems the answer is NO.

I read yesterday that Google is bringing back more "open" access to the SD card again via Lollipop. Finally!
not sure if this was resolved, but you can transfer all photos, video s and music to the SD card via Settings > Storage > Transfer Data to SD card.
Not sure if this means all future music will automatically go there. Can anyone confirm?

There is a periodic check to see if your internal memory is over 75% full. When it is, you get prompted to use this Sony Utility. Unfortunately for me my picture transfer fails (even though I have my camera app set to save it to SD Card). Which is how I ended up in this thread.
I'm living with this only because i know it will change once we get Lollipop.
Photos on the SD card
The problem I'm having is I accidently clicked my SD card for my photo storage and then I realized what happened and changed it back to internal memory storage but now all the photos I took while it was set to the SD option I can't find them now. I'm fairly certain I checked all the folders and the 10 or so photos I took are nowhere to be found.
