[Q] Bionic OEM Ext Batt fit Lapdock & HD Dock? Anyone Modded? - Motorola Droid Bionic

Has anyone modded their Bionic Lapdocks or HD Docks to fit with the OEM extended battery and cover? If so, do you have any pics? I am considering buying a couple of the OEM extended batts (http://www.verizonwireless.com/extended-battery-w-cover.shtml) but want to see how difficult it would be to get them to fit in the Lapdock and HD dock, otherwise will just stick with the stock battery. From what I have seen of pictures/videos of the Bionic with the extended battery is that it really does not make it that much thicker. Hopefully, it will fit into docks/lapdock without any modding, but I doubt it. Any info, pics, would be helpful.
Note: Forum member csshih was able to mod an Atrix Lapdock with the Bionic w/Extended Battery (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1374743&highlight=lapdock&page=2)..see post#14. However, I was wondering if anyone has done the same with the specific Bionic Lapdock. Also, hopefully you have some pics. Well, thanks in advance.

I have the car dock (made FAR more useful by freezing the stupid car-dock app), it fits the extended battery/case perfectly (has an insert to address different sizes of phone...oddly, the insert has to be in there for the extended battery case) you have to take off whatever protective case you are using tho

Thank you for the information.

Extended Battery + Docking station

Does anyone have the extended batter and also the docking station. If so does the d3 with extended battery installed fit in the docking station?

Yes. The extended battery + cover only adds like 1mm of thickness to the Droid 3.

thanks
It's sold by verizon wireless and is a motorola original extended battery:

yeah, that's the one I have. Works out great.
I have both and it works fine.
Yep, extended battery from Verizon/Moto fits quite well in the dock.
Those blue and purple snap on cases though? Not so much. The screen will barely slide and basically gets stuck if you have the extended battery. Doesn't matter though, my gf thought I might want one but turns out we gotta take it back since it doesn't fit.
Yes - and it also fits on the car dock.
People are using the the extended battery cover?
Mine fit just fine with the factory cover... it makes me wonder why they didn't just ship these phones with an extended battery in the first place.

I live in a very hot area. I use the cover just so the battery has room to expand from the heat.
Is it possible to order these outside USA?
I'd like to get the extended battery/cover, but being in Australia could be a problem...
You could consider a service like Borderlinx.
Okay, i'll consider it. Thank you.
I have the extended battery, the verizon case/holster, and the dock. While the verizon case DOES support the extended battery, its very difficult to fit the phone on the dock (with the insert removed) while in the verizon case with the extended battery. It says right on the box for the case that its compatible with the dock and the ext. battery but it took me several minutes to get it to fit, and even then, it felt really tight like it didn't want to sit properly in the cradle. This pisses me off.
I have both and it works. I will say that the docking station is a bit of a let down compared to the original docking station I used with the Droid1 and 2.
It's not weighted.
The phone doesn't slide in/out of it nearly as easily as the Droid 1 / 2 setup.
The USB port is for charging only, it's not a passthrough if connected to a computer.
Wouldn't buy it again.
Anyone have a feel for like the % improvement in average battery life with the extended battery?

I consider myself a heavy user and I went from my phone dying 1/3 of the day to the phone lasting all day. I'd say a good investment.
So factory cover is ok to use? If order, no need for new cover?
Oh i see. I need to do that as well.
I found this from Amazon,

Atrix Lapdock for Bionic users

Anyone that has modded an atrix lapdock for the bionic I need assistance. Does the extended battery w/ case (Verizon kickstand one) fit in the dock?
If not- if you pop the case off will it then fit?
If neither, did you modify the dock to make it fight and was it successful with the case on or off?
Thanks

I have the extended battery but a TPU case, and no, it does not work with the case on the phone for me. The USB and HDMI ports are not long enough. It does work 100% fine with the extended battery as long as my case is not on. Hope it helps
Thanks for the response

Bionic dock (non-HD) and extra battery w/charging cradle for sale

After the .905 update has made my Bionic's 4G connection as slippery as teflon, I've finally called Verizon and they're sending me a RAZR. SO, I have a basic desktop dock and an extra battery w/ charging cradle that I would like to sell. I also have a Seidio Surface Active case and a TP slip on case to sell as well.. maybe this would make a nice little starter pack for someone?
This should be posted in the marketplace.

Any idea whether the standard dock will fit a phone with extended battery installed?
Thanks for the heads-up.

I think there is an insert in the dock that can be removed to fit the extended battery. This isn't explicitly stated in the item description on Amazon, though, and Motorola's product page for the dock is less than helpful. :-\
Also worth noting that a number of reports indicate that it will not fit the Bionic with any sort of case installed, though.

I have the extended battery and the standard and vehicle docks. The bionic with extended battery fits in perfectly with the insert in place. Actually it fits a little better because the insert is designed for both the extended and regular battery.
Also, if you remove the insert, some cases will work. In particular I have used a casemate case and a generic polyurethane case and it worked fine in both the standard and vehicle docks. This only applies to the standard battery though (I haven't used or seen a case for the bionic with extended battery).
Thanks for all the tips.
Just a heads-up that the lowest Amazon-fulfilled price on the car dock went up to $23.89.

Thanks. Updated the OP with today's prices. Still much cheaper than when they came out!
Bought the car dock and the standard dock. Both fit with the extended battery AND an aftermarket TPU case -- nice and snug, as it should be. All you have to do is remove the insert.
Thanks again for posting this. Great deal!

Thanks for the update. I'll add these bits to the original post.
Good links, should also add the navigation mount sans charger is $11.45 as of today which kind of irks me as I ordered it 2 days ago and it was $16... ugh anyway it is good for ppl who already have a car charger and don't need the spiffy USB charger with the 3.5mm audio jack. I already have that charger from my D3 car dock or someone might just use bluetooth to link which is going to be way better quality anyway.

Oh and the lapdock is $69.99 at Ben's Outlet, free shipping

Just picked one of these up too and the extender cables on amazon so I can use it with a case.
Interestingly, there was an Amazon Lightning Deal on the car dock as a part of their Black Friday promotion. The problem was they jacked the "normal price" up to $39.99 and offered the "sale price" for $25 or so... If I hadn't been keeping up with this post and updating it regularly, I'd have thought it was a great deal!!

All of the accessories (and the Icarus ROM) are what keep me in my Bionic (got the Costco deal on launch day and have added two more standard docs, and HD doc and a moto BT mouse and keyboard)
Updated OP to reflect most recent amazon prices with links. Added Lapdock, which is now available on amazon.
Does the lapdock have it's own battery, or will it suck power out of the phone while it's unplugged?
Also -- I've been away from developments as of late -- does it work with the JB custom roms or is that on a per-rom basis?

The lapdock has its own battery and I think it will charge the phone while not plugged in.
Not sure about the second part, I think it depends on the rom

The Motorola official extended battery is physically thicker, and normally requires a special door -- and this extra door makes it not fit most cases, or into the car or multimedia dock very well.
That said, there is a very simple solution I have been using for ~13 months... I didn't use the modified door. I put the battery in, and I put my case on, without the battery door. The extra thickness of the battery itself is the same thickness as the door adds, so the official hardbody Motorola case fits perfectly. I have *never* had a problem with the battery falling out or losing contact. As a plus, the multimedia dock comes with a removable insert to accommodate the official hardbody case -- and since the case has a flat back, the car dock has no issues, either.

Anyone ever use one of those 2600mAh extended batteries that sell for about $6 on ebay??
I want to get an extended battery but I hate how it makes the phone loon and that hump it gives it,just feels weird. Those 3500mAh batteries wont work for me,so I was thinking maybe the 2600mAh versions would be ok...

I have a 1930mAh BFX6 battery and it only JUST fits. One of the edges can't close 100% so there's a 0.1mm gap. Might differ between droid 3 models, that small of a gap.
But if the battery would be any thicker than the 1930 one it won't fit the stock cover
any extended battery for honor holly suggestion ......thanks in advance
