Ralph: I haploids for the wait.
Ralph: The file you are requesting is not currently available.
Ralph: I can submit a request for the information form our HTC Developer's Team.
kiran surath: i submitted a request for it for it but no response, i was so patient for that query, since one monbth waiting for it.
Ralph: I apologise for the inconvenience. Do you have a reference for the previous request?
kiran surath: waiting for the kernel source code to be released still no reponse
Ralph: Do you have a reference number from the previous submission?
kiran surath: i deleted the e-mail,sorry i lost the evidence,i lost the reference number
kiran surath: razer1224 is my username in the htcdev.com
kiran surath: i am a memeber in it
Ralph: One moment, I shall try accessing via your e-mail.
Ralph: Did you use another e-mail besides blah blah blah?
kiran surath: yes,That's my mail account.
kiran surath: blah blagh blah is my email address nothing besides it
Ralph: I am sorry, I am not finding a reference from here. Where did you submit the request?
kiran surath: to htcdev
Ralph: I see. Please allow me to submit a separate request via this form.
kiran surath: ok
Ralph: Could you provide me with your full name, a contact phone number and the Build number and software version of your HTC Salsa?

Ralph: I shall be submitting the request shortly.
kiran surath: thank u so much...
kiran surath: when i would be getting this source code
Ralph: I am unable to say when it may arrive.
Ralph: Could yo tell me the country code for India?
kiran surath: +91
Ralph: Thank you. It is then blah blah blah?
kiran surath: yes
Ralph: Thank you. I apologise for not knowing this.
kiran surath: it's okay

Ralph: *Is there anything else I can help you with today?
kiran surath: *no thanks, but please insist the developers as i have waited for a year
Ralph: *If you have no further questions please close this chat session. Upon closure you will be invited to complete our Customer Satisfaction Survey which should take no more than 1 minute.
Thank you for using InstantService. You may now close this window.
Thank you for contacting us. To allow HTC to continue to improve our service can I ask that you complete a very short satisfaction survey by clicking here.
i think some people should do the same talking then we would work it out>>>>>why is he asking an imei number
whoever owns a salsa do that sh*t
you got what i got but in a longer fashion lol
kinda related but this pisses me off with the amount propriety and closed source stuff out there it prevents unpaid developers from improving a product, which would generate more sales. A good example of some relatively open hardware/software is the raspberry pi, it does have a single binary blob for the opengl but that's it. This makes the product very popular as the developers are pretty much unrestricted in what they want to do with the device and it has gotten some other companies a bit worried, sales wise. I fail to see why these android phones companies don't open there phone more and release newer code, most of the phnes have similar hardware and the source code most likely exists in other kernel release anyway so what is there major malfunction? About the only thing I can see is HTC thinks like this.
1. You bought a HTC phone, HTC is the best and you love HTC
2. HC does not update an updateable phone and provents the cstomers from keeping it updated
3. Loyal customer buys a new HTC phone
in reality
1. Customer buys HTC because he hears good things abot HTC
2. Cusomer decides to buy an older model because he just needs something basic and the newer models are not
3. Customers tries to update phone but gets pissed off that he cant
4. Customers tells everyone it generating bad publicity
5. Customers buys another brand
If it was up to me id be up to step 5 but its the phone i got for my wife who is on step 4. The stock ROM was very dodgy and the app storage space is very low. I have since fixed those issues but its still not a great phone
Well bloody said mate....spot on!
Wasn't me............ ;-)
HTC Desire C kernel anyone??? no
is it possible to put desire c kernel on salsa since it has almost same specs???
HTC said in their faqs like this
We work hard to ensure each of our products has the optimal user experience and therefore some products will remain at their current version of Android. In general, devices with 512MB ROM or less will not be upgraded to Android 4.0. These devices include the HTC ChaCha, HTC Salsa, HTC Wildfire S, HTC Explorer, and others.
HTC tablets, including the HTC Flyer, HTC EVO View 4G, and HTC Jetstream, will remain on their current Android version (Honeycomb).
Upgrades are not the same thing as ongoing support. Devices not being upgraded to Android 4.0 will still get software improvements, security fixes, and technical support as needed.

Hi, today I contacted the support at HTC to ask for Android 2.3.5, why the Chacha has it and the Salsa not. Maybe they give me some useful answers.
It is very strange that the Salsa doesn't have a support page on the German HTC page. Ther is only a "Page not found"
@Go.Bin
Very interesting, that the Desire C runs only with 600MHz .. maybe it is possible. Only one thing is different.. the ROM is there 4GB ... I don't know if it fits on our 512MB. Best choice would be to put it on SD card.
Is it possible to boot an Android image from SD card like the HTC HD2 does to boot Android instead of WinMobile?

No to both above.
Each handset has a specific kernel...we have tried many kernels from various devices and most don't work....the ones that do, have screen flicker and other problems.
Our kernel has been released and i am learning the process of building them...its taking time of course so please bear with us

i mean by this....
Take Stock kernel on HTC website which they have released.
open it up and modify it, make it what you want
OC it
Make it compatible with everything we need so we can use it for CM7/CM9.
No i agree it is very hard making kernels, it took days to download the data required, around 15gb roughly on Ubuntu which is needed to be able to create a kernel cm7 rom

If I read that correctly, he/she said that they have contacted HTC, and if we send them a ROM, they will analyse to see how we can load the sucker onto the device.
Alas, I don't have the tools to do android ROM cooking (yet).
Anyone willing to cook us a stock AOSP ROM for us to pop over to the HTC Devs to analyse? By that, I mean, no root or anything (unless you know what you're doing ), just plain stock (with some mods to make it faster, or something like that.
If HTC doesn't backstab us and 'ally' with us, they may be kind enough to tell how to flash the ROM or boot it via Fastboot or something...
I've also tried to contact HTC Australia in regards to custom kernels not booting, but every time they say "Oh yes, we're going to call you today" they don't. Damn.
Hi guys, i have been following closely to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=980497 ...

We will try to answer all your questions here. And please keep the original thread nice and clean. Thanks to jenny we now have a thread that can be open for answers.
I hope jenny is willing to update the 1st post with faq's and alike. (i will try to provide them as much as possible). Thanks to knightrocker we have a lot of good basic stuff to tell about
So lets discuss and ask
p.s. yes i will be annoyed by people who don't read and ask the same question that has already been answered (probably multiple times )
So how do I root my IS? can someone give me a link please?

Hmmm ... Soo that secu_flag=1 in too deep down too bad ... I will have a look at kexec ... Sounds nice
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using XDA App
Hmmm did a bit of reading on kexec. Timbo i have a question, u said u are trying to use it, but u cant boot into it.
Maybe that is because it is already being used? From what i read, kexec sounds a LOT like the fastboot option on htc's to me. And i don think u can overlap two kernels over the original one. Maybe thats why it was never tried
Please correct me if im wrong.

Knightrocker just wait mate we are busy with it
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using XDA Premium App
I must say u: im not that much of a linux programmer, mainly tester, but getting to know it. We are just trying to use it (or misuse if u want) to run our code.
Dont know exactly how it works, but it is useable to bypass some of the HTC security that is build in. But like u said: its never been used before, but thats only partial true. It is being used on the X10, and 4 days ago they announced that they succesfull used it to run there own kernel and roms.
Currently there are people working on it and as usual there are only just a few persons who really know what there doing (not me included ) so also i have to wait. Just have a little more know how because i'm involved with it
As soon as i know how it exactly works i am willing to document it (if allowed by the devs though) because maybe we dont want HTC to know how we do it exactly, because it will probably be to easy to disabled again haha.
Heres a starter for the faq
Root, s-off what does that mean?
If you don’t know what root is, go away and do some research. Not going to cover that.
Temp-root/shell-root: By using the psneuter exploit we can get temp-root. This allows us to execute more commands and gives us access to the whole system.
S-on/S-off: Disable the security that is also known as the NAND lock. When S-on is enabled it prevents us to write to the system partition (and various others). They can be written but it will be discarded when you reboot. So we see it as not writeable.
How do I check if im s-on?
Disable the fastboot option in setting > application. Shutdown. Hold down vol-down + powerbutton until you get to a white screen. Read the first line. Should say something like “Vivo bla bla S-ON”. If it says you are S-OFF you are lucky .
What is responsible for the s-on?
The radio firmware (not accesable trough the system directly) sets an flag (secu_flag) to 1 or 0, 1 for s-on, 0 for s-off. To get s-offed we somehow need to change that flag. Currently not possible for our phones.
The kexec was allredy used on the Motorola Milestone, but the Radio was always hanging. But possibily it can help you guys looking at the sources http://and-developers.com/custom_rom:2ndboot
Nice info! Have not looked so good at it (yet) so will do now.
Further more: i know about the X10 since one of there developers is on our team too. So have not looked at other phones yet who uses it
Had an Milestone before my Desire
You can ask the guys on #milestone-modding on freenode on IRC if you need help, they made a lot of experience with this methode since more than six month.

Then how it is possible to have a permanent root with S-ON on other devices like DHD?
The way I understood it,is that we can get root privileges but they vanish once we reboot cause they only existed in a volatile memory (since we can't write the code into the non-volatile area because of the S-ON)
This makes me ask: What's a permanent root then?
It is possible on other devices because it (the radio) can be somewhat accessed within userspace (kernel/programs) and than sets the flag to s-off. But it is required to exploit the radio so that it will do what we say. All current know exploits don't work on our phone. So its currently not possible on the new HTC devices.
So it is possible to access certain parts of the phone that are locked. but it requires a lot of skill to get there and than you must find something useable to change the flag.
Permanent root is what it says: stay root even after reboot There were times (mostly early cracking of new (currently old) devices) that people could temporary turn of the flag, set root in the system and that way gain permanent root. But most of the time your not very far away from fully s-off.

If you were a chick I would ask you to marry me for such awesome answer
Fancy a beer?
@androf : lol bro, ur crazy.
I have more questions if some1 dosent mind answering. From what i read, kexec skips the firmware part, thus we skip security. But about flashing a custom recovery? Will kexec still be effective or will u use it just to root and then chuck it?
Heck, ive learnt more from this IS section than i did in a whole year of science classes in school
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using XDA App
@Androf, ty but no thanks dont have any brains left at the moment and a beer would not help me to return it and your welcome!
@knightrocker: this thread is made for questions (the other one is more for the news and progress) so burn out those questions, i assume it still takes some time to get trough though. So until then i'm trying to help everybody here with there questions regarding to it and a appreciate the thoughts about how to get trough.
p.s. you can pm me ofc when u have questions, but i think that you should post them here, so other people can learn too. I'm saying that you have to wait for something to come off that uses the kexec method. Currently being worked on so not much info to be given yet. Dont crop those questions and put them out. Will appreciate if you have more than one question post them in one post though
@mr stylo: we have one the lead devs of the X10 cracking team, i assume he knows where to find the info. but nevertheless its a good learning course for me
@timbo: ok bossman. I will ask any questions i have to make sure every1 learns with me. And ill try to keep it a little compact as u say. I will read some more on this kexec thing. Im glad u guys found that dev dude from the x10. Say hi to him for me please
Btw... Just so i get right, u said i could burn off any questiojs i have and learn as much as can yes? Sry... But imma little sleepy

I've read some threads mentioning gold card and installing official roms meant for other regions. Can we have an FAQ about that in this thread too?
Appreciate you guys collecting info here
Since we are receiving inquires on daily basis from our readers regarding Motorola Atrix bootloader unlock we decided to give short update on projects
which have for target unlocking atrix bootloaders. Motorola did not provide update to 2.3 Gingerbread for it's flagship smart phone (all competitors
already have available update for their top models) community is trying hard to bypass bootloader lock which was obviously imposed by carriers.
And since most of the phone are being sold trough carriers Motorola does not have here much choice then to have locked bootloaders at least for the phones which are being sold trough carriers.
So currently we have 2 serious projects (actually 3, but third one is under radar for now).
First one is khoulk project which has for target to use kernel function kexec to boot secondary (custom) kernel which should
have ability to read/write all partitions and trough this process possibly debrand devices.
Current status on this project is that khoulk have exact address where secondary kernel should be started and currently is trying to build secondary kernel and more info can be found in our last article regarding this topic here.
(This still needs to be confirmed by khoulk)
Second project is being developed by famous hacker tenfar from China, he is very well known as person who built clockworkmod recovery for Motorola Defy trough exploit called 2nd init bootloader, and partialy working clockworkmod recovery for Atrix.
Currently this is only way to for now to flash Atrix with pesudo ROM's for Atrix. Since tenfar has pretty impressive reputation in this field of expertise as well as houlk we should wait and see who should be first to the Atrix throne.
Also is worth mentioning here that 2init bootloader (bootloader menu) hack for defy is NOT publicly available (closed source, Korean authors claimed that this is due to possible bugs and instability, but it also may be way to prevent Motorola from patching this exploit in further releases) so tenfar has to reverse whole recovery method and try to implement it for Atrix.
tenfar :the 2ndinit is truely developed by Skrilax_CZ .Thank you for your hard work.and i need to make clear that the bootstrap recovery is not develop by me, i just port it to defy and the atrix 4g also i've modify the code to work with this two devices propertyly.but it's Koush's and many other developer who work on Cyanogen Mod to make that progress start from aosp sources. the Android bootmenu project as the OP worngly called "2nd-init" is developed by [email protected]
but the 2ndinit credit should go to Skrilax_CZ! and the credit of bootstrap recovery should goes to Koush and me .sorry for my english.
Again Thanks all the devs who work on those projects to make the world much better........

Third project is remaining for now under radar and as soon we have approval from it's authors we will publish more info here.
Update 2
OK guy's I think that we need to support dev's, tenfar developed currently only method with clockwork to flash custom pseudo rom's for atrix and he did that without even having atrix.
If we want to have custom recovery we need to show and support this projects.
Price for Atrix in china is around 750$ and since we all already paid hefty sum
for our locked phones I does not make big difference to give few $ to support dev's who are trying really hard to give us full access to our phones.
So goal is the following
1. Raise 750$ by donating tenfar for his atrix.
2. Extend current work to adopt 2init bootloader method for Atrix
3. Have ability to flash custom kernels
So to speed things up here is my contribution.
100$ to tenfar paypal account (Confirmation number: 0DT07904N51875837.)
Who is next ?
P.S. Every $ counts.

Update 3. In less than hour we manage to raise 200$ I'm really proud to be part of this community.
We need 750$
We have 200$
In percantage 27%
Update 4
We raised in 6 hours today in total 440$ which is roughly 70% of needed amount we need still 310$.
Thanks to all people who donated money!
In less than 9 hours we managed to reach our first goal!
We raised enough to get dev phone for tenfar
Here is the list of donors for today (20.May.2011)
You will notice that some nickname fields are empty (please contact me by pm

P.S. If I understand Your signature correctly You don't own Atrix 4G but You are developing recovery for it ?
Thank you very much for the update!
Someone previously started another thread asking the community to donate money to supply an Atrix to developers like Tenfar who currently do not have one. I would support this idea, and am willing to contribute, not just to help us get the Atrix "unlocked" in whatever manner, but as a thank you for all the hard work.

Yes, i still dont have a atrix 4g. i am borrow my friend's when i need to test my. there is no time line that i can provide. i will use my free time to do this.

Tenfar, I just donated $50USD.
I believe in this work and want you to do the best you can, please make sure to notify the community of how much money you have for the cause so we know how much more you need.
I still reserve $150 AUD for the first person to load a custom Kernel so this means I will have contributed close to $200 for this.
Please let us know what you need and what else can help us to free our phones.
Cheers,
Irwin

That's in addition to $20 I sent him a couple of weeks ago!
Hi there,
Will contribute towards an Atrix for Tenfar, however: why don't we buy it in the US at an AT&T store, off contract & then ship it to him? Much cheaper, phone can be sim-unlocked quite easily. A moderator from the US can perhaps take the task?
Just a thought. I'll contribute either way.

If you know of me outside of XDA, you know what I'm trying to achieve. Look at my signature if you're not sure what my non-dev contributions are.
I believe everyone has the ability to help no matter what their skill set.
Agreed!

Tenfar, can you organise to get yourself the AT&T version of the device, recruit the services of one of the contributors to help you if needed.
Regarding shipping from US to china there are significant problems which involve domestic custom office and it can delay significantly whole process, so I recommend that we skip that for now.
Irvin,
I'm well aware of Your good work, and I know that motorola internally is also aware of this
Just keep up with great job!

Hey Guys.. I Created this thread for discussing S-OFF for our Desire C (obviously) ... Recently I contacted HTC Devs and here what they say ...
Dear Reinel Caluag,
Thanks for contacting HTC Philippines
we appreciate your continuous attentions with our products and services. We understand that you wanted to have an S off for your HTC Desire C.
For us to easily solve the issue, we would like to get the exact make and model of the handset. And it would be best if you could provide to us the IMEI or the serial number of your phone for proper documentation of your account with us. You may usually get the IMEI on the sticker at the back of the handset or by dialing *#06# on your phone’s dialer.
Regarding the concern, as we gathered some information, S-on or security on is a feature on our device where the system software of the handset is protected. For this, since you mentioned that you've already unlocked the bootloader of the handset and you still have S-On, we will raise this concern to our management for us to know how you can get S-off. For the meantime, please do expect another email response about updates and resolution for the said concern.
Please let us know if this information was able to help you. If not, kindly inform us the issues you have encountered. Should you need further assistance, you may give us a call at 1800-14410789 for PLDT or 1800-89086588 for Globe. You may provide your customer ID number “ for us to easily pull up your account. And our business hours are from Mondays to Sundays, 8:00AM to 8:00PM.
On the other hand, if we have successfully answered all of your concerns, you may close the ticket by accessing the links provided as well as for proper documentation of your account with us.
Once the ticket is closed, you will be receiving an invite for a survey. We would greatly appreciate if you can participate on a quick survey regarding how we were able to assist you with your concern.
Thank you for making business with us. Have a nice day!

What Do ya Think Guys.. ???
(*_*)
Good, Its good to see the HTCDev team showing even the slightest support for the Desire C
Maybe we will get S-OFF maybe we wont.
Right now it seems to be the thing we need most right now :/
Thanks for doing this Addictz10

Excuse my noobishness, but I don't really see the point behind getting s-off for our phone. I understand it will enable us to flash kernels from recovery mode itself and we can flash radio images to our phone (which I think is risky and i would never try that). And we can flash a different bootloader. But with it comes great security risks, and the possibility to actually hard brick our phones. So given a choice, I would still opt for S-on. Flashing kernels through fastboot is not that much of a problem, it hardly takes any time. Is there something I'm missing regarding S-off?

yeah ... !!
My turn to state an opinion. IMHO dual booting is a bad idea. It takes up more space than it should. The only benefit i see from it is as a test enviorment.
Like have your main rom setup, and then flash test builds of other roms alongside it. But that is the only benefit.
Isn't different bootloaders device specific? If so who will be the advanced dev guy that will port/build them for us?
Im supporting s-off, but highly hesitant whether it will be of much use on a such low end device.

I am not sure about Dual boot.
becuse pico doesn't have S-off but a dual boot
I think they have s-off .. coz dual boot needs s-off because dual boot flash kernels through recovery... while us on fastboot

I agree with noahvt about changing splash screen and its so annoying having to turn on my PC to change kernel and we need to get a full touch cwm not twrp like 6.0.3.5

YAH! I KNOW!! Just do What we want -_-
Dear Reinel Caluag,
Thanks for contacting HTC Philippines
Thank you for the information that you have provided. Regarding the concern, as we've checked our resources, we found out that we don't need to turn the security off to accomplish the basic installation of custom ROM. Security on by default is good for some reasons, it protects the system software configuration such as radio, boot, recovery and system. However, once you've unlocked the bootloader of the handset, you will have lifted the restrictions of the handset and you have the means to customize boot, recovery and system images on your phone as you desire. For this, we are sorry to say that our management did not give the exact information on how to turn the security off. But as for coordination, normally, once you've unlocked the bootloader of the handset it will automatically have S-Off and developers would easily access or toggle the options on the phone specifically with Security off and on.

For what i understand is that we need an xtc clip (link: http://www.xtc.hk/index.html ) people at pico thread have spoken about this but i don't know if this will work on our desire c's it's if someone is willing to risk it? i found this guide (it is for the htc desire hd but it will be sort of similar with other devices i think) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLWtIzOkEbI
EDIT: it's possible without xtc clip as shown in this thread for wildfire s http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342468

I'm gonna buy a N4 at the end of the year since it has better support then HTC does :'( but i'll keep in touch and keep developing for this phone i still don't understand htc doesn't give us proper support (and because there is a big crack running trough my phone )
Hello all devs and HTC One users. I've been searching a lot on XDA, Google and all over internet but couldnt find a better place to post this. I just got a HTC Butterfly S and wish to use CM, Paranoid, Carbon or ANY other rom which I can use CM Themes Engine and have an AOSP look. I had a HTC Sensation before, and loved everything I had using CM ROM.
I wished some dev here could port any of this ROMs to this device, I know is not an easy job. I already tried to do such work, but all tutorials, guides and etc on XDA refer to a BASE ROM, and my device is unsupported, so I cant have a base ROM to port. I know M7 has almost the same specs as ButterflyS, so maybe is a little easier.
I hope someone can help me, because I THINK I did all I can. Thanks :good:
--EDIT--
I'd like to know how XDA works with hiring devs to do such work, I can donate money, it will be not for free. Thanks
PS: Sorry for my bad english.

We dont "hire" devs. Development starts from the people that use the device. Even big name roms will not work on a device that someone on the team doesnt own.
So your best bet would be to find someone with the device, Then track down all the kernel and device source code.
