What's up guys, first of all I've looked up for that problem on the board and none of the topics are helpful.
Well, I've got SGS with CM9 nigtly 2012-05-06 with the IcyGlitch kernel. I've checked different modems and kernels and nothing. The problem is connected with the wifi. However it is only about my router. Somehow my phone and router don't like each other. The wifi speed is really slow, to download something is a miracle, facebook sometimes even doesn't want to log in. The problem started after I installed cm9. I've tried many builds of CM9 and none of them helped. I don't wanna wipe the phone and install another rom, I just want to fix it, if everybody can work without any problems, I also can. My router is D-Link 524. I've tried other cell phones and they work fine with the wifi. Also I've tried other wifi connection like at my university and it works cool.
What can you advise me to do ?

Hello,
I've been having a problem with AndChat not connecting to IRC.
It will only connect over Wifi, not 3g/edge. I am on T-Mobile and Cyanogenmod latest. More detailed specs are in my sig.
I have tried wiping, reflashing the defanged base and reflashing Cyanogenmod, and reverting my hosts file from AdFree. But I still can't connect.
I have another backup phone that connects to IRC flawlessly with the same simcard, so I know it must be a problem with my phone.
Any ideas on what my problem might be and how I might fix it?
Did the connectivity tester apk I linked you to in the email help?
I downloaded and installed it, but it just sits there trying to connect as well.
I am trying to connect to irc.freenode.org:6667, but I have tried also irc.osx86.hu:6667 and it still does not connect.
It's like just my phone has this problem.
Edit: I tried again this afternoon, I could connect successfully with the tool to irc.freenode.net:6667 and to irc.osx86.hu:6667. But my AndChat still does not connect to either.
This is a pretty crazy problem. It affects more then 1 app with seemingly no cause or pattern. I'm baffled as to what could be causing it :|
Do you think it could be my radio or something?
A while ago I tried an add-on to increase edge and 3g speeds, too, but now it's integrated into CyanogenMod if I remember correctly. So that shouldn't be the cause. Plus, I've wiped and tried new installations of CM since then and still get the problem.
If it was the radio, I think there would be more issues in general. Have you tried different ports on freenode? They use ports 6665, 6666, 6667, 7000(SSL Only), 7070 (SSL Only), 8000, 8001 and 8002 according to their website.
For some reason it magically started working after I got out from work today and tried it. A fellow IRC user (who has also had the same connectivity issues) and I have both had problems but it started working randomly today. Maybe T-Mobile fixed something with the connections? I don't know.
Thank you so much for your help though, it wasn't a problem with your app but you were still very nice and willing to try and fix the problem!
Hi!
I have a really weird problem with my SGS.
When I'm installing ANY firmware (I've tried every single one) except of my original FW "JPB", I can't get my WiFi working.
There are actually 2 types of Wifi behavior on the different ROMs. The first one is when you're connecting to the Wifi and you can actually open Google.com, Android Market, etc, normally. But when it comes to a "heavy" sites such as youtube, wifi connection just freezes and nothing helps before you'll close the browser and reconnect to the access point.
On some other roms you're connecting to Wifi without any errors too, but you can't actually open any site at all. And only on FW "JPB" (which is russian official) there is no such a problem.
Also Samsung Apps doesn't work on other ROMs, I even thought that it can be related somehow... I know that there's no logic here, so I'm really confused.
Oh, and even if I'm installing Voodoo lagfix on my official firmware I'm still getting into this trouble
I really want to hear your opinion, so please don't hesitate to reply.
Thanks in advance,
Jay
Good Morning,
For some reason, recently the wifi on my phone isnt connecting...i constantly get "optaining ip address"
At first i thought it was something with my router, but my phone is doing this on open networks and on my friends router.
It was working perfectly up until about 3days ago.
Any ideas on what i can try?
I have the exact same problem and am looking for a fix as well.
It starting happening to me after I updated my radio version to 3805.x.x.x because the phone wasn't working on the previous version.
I had the same problem with CM7 Nightly #66 and 67, but after i updated to Radio 20.2810.30.085AU_3805.06.03.16 i don't have that problem any more.
Now my WiFi connect and gets a IP very quick.
Update:
So I've tried 2 things without any luck.
1- I found on another forum that updating the kernel helped a few people. So I flashed 2.6.35.14-Tiamat_IncS-v1.1.2. That didn't fix the wi-fi.
2- I took jkolner's advice just above and flashed a radio for a 2.33.669.2 RUU. Although nothing else broke, wi-fi was still a no-go.
I will keep searching and post back any finds.
SOLVED
Previously I was running CyanogenMod7 7.1.0-RC1. After trying the 2 things posted in my previous post, I proceeded into trying CM7 Nightly #68. At the moment I can now connect to my home wireless network.
I'm so happy to get wi-fi back! And I hope it will be able to help others as well!
Last month i was on holiday for 3 weeks without any WiFi in range, so i know how it is to do with no WiFi ;-)
WiFi is working on 2 other sgs2s but not on my NOTE! It was yesterday but not anymore! i tried everything, flashed another ROM (was using criskelo v4.1, flashed CheckROMv5) in vain! The weird part is that if i go to facebook in browser it works but nothing else works. No app, market, kitchen app, nothing! All works on 3g! It's extremely frustrating and i can't seem to find any answer anywhere!
If i start browsing with 3g then enable wifi, it works. I don't know what to do and i can't keep using 3G, it's extremely expensive in my country!
It started when i flashed UltimateKernelCleaningTool from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363738&page=13 before flashing AbyssNoteKernel35bOriginalLogo.zip.
Any clues?
Try assigning Static IP in WiFi Settings.
If everything Ok on device side, you may try to reset your Router. perticularly if mac protection enable, this issue occurs.
no mac protection is enabled on router, and if it's a router problem shouldn't other devices be affected by it? Laptop connected with internet, bro's sgs2 connected with internet, sis's sgs2 also!
could be kernel related, tried a different kernel?

yes, i tried abyss3.5b and cf kernel la4!
i prefer cf kernel since it has all functions enabled like 3 way torch and loop capabilities (no other kernel has those)! I've been using the cf kernel ever since i got my NOTE 2 month ago and never encountered that problem before!
Just want to share my experience. i faced similar problem today. I connected to WIFI in my office but was not working. Then i started browser and realized i need to login to cyberroam for WIFI to work. Everything worked smoothly thereafter. Hope this helps !!! Goodluck !!!
any firewall rules enabled on router? or any IPS/filter enabled?
i use droidwall, i tried disabling it but it didnt work! I tried browsing directly after clean install (no app installed) still didn't work! 3G works great.
Hello everyone, since I got my cappy I've been delighted by it, it's an awesome phone, even more so when you get to root and update it, now here's the problem: my wifi keeps acting up. First it was the autenticating loop, now my cappy connects but doesn't send or receive any data. I know it's not my router since I have other wifi enabled devices and they can connect and use the wifi properly. Been trying changing from WPA to WPA 2 and auto, no luck. Been trying setting static IP, no luck. It just... sits there connected and not sending. He worked properly in stock, hence I tried going to stock, and then reflashing, no luck.
I used cyanogen and slim bean, with custom semaphore and cyancore, and different basebands (namely ugkg3, tubjv6, bvjjw2) I hope someone can help me on this since this is the only flaw I've encountered so far with this awesome phone.
Thank everyone in advance, and have a nice day.
EDIT: Forgot to add, when I freshly flash a ROM it works perfectly... Until some time passes (around 4 hrs) or until I attempt to download something higher than 20 mb+. Then the issues start.

Wifi drivers are coming from the kernel, therefor, I'd suggest other kernels. If that doesn't work, try another ROM (like AoCP). If the problem still persists, I'd suggest flashing stock KK4 and starting over.
Hey! Thank you for your suggestions, yeah I've been seeing some improvements using unofficial semaphore so I'm sticking to it right now.
God I love this phone. Haha. Thanks again.
