Install Samsung 10.1 virtual keyboard on emulator - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Android Development

Is it at all possible to extract the included Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 virtual keyboard in order for me to install and use this when I develop android applications?
At the moment I'm having issues with EditText-fields set up for certain input types, and the only test platform I have got is the emulator, which behaviour doesn't match the keyboard that ships with the tab.

First of all you should be rooted.
Once rooted the easiest way is by backing up Samsung keyboard using titanium backup pro.

[Q]Gingerbread's Keyboard for galaxy s on 2.3.3

It's probably already somewhere on this forum.
But, I've made the update to android 2.3.3 for my galaxy s and I'd like to have the gingrbread's keyboard on it.
Does any one knows how to get it, i'm lost on this case.
Thanks!

Just get the apk and install it. Use the search function to find the apk.
If you upgraded to 2.3.3 it should already be there.
Find any type of search box, press in the box and hold down until a popup box called 'input method'. After selecting 'input method' a new box should pop up with multiple choices of which keyboard to use, gingerbread being one of them (if preinstalled). If not, download it from the market and enable it in settings/locale and text. You should see in that list "Gingerbread keyboard" with an empty box next to it (if unactivated). Check that box and make your selection through the input method box again.
On XXJVK AOSP gingerbread keyboard is not included.
Here is the link, just download the apk and install:

Even easier, just download it for free from the Market.

[Q] Is it possible to upgrade VZW Tab to latest Swype?

I'd like to get the new swype on my verizon galaxy tab. Is there anyway to do this and if so has someone posted a guide?
Thanks.

...and the answer (sorta) was... root the Tab, use Titanium Backup to Uninstall the built-in Swype, then download and install the new Swype. Bad news? After a reboot it didn't want to work anymore. At all. Hmmm.

[Q] OS Low level modifications

Hello everybuddy
Happy to be among you XDA members
I am new to android, I know how to work with Odin and what a custom ROM, rooted OS,... mean and need some answers to figure out some concepts:
1. I guess Google has made android a modular and structured platform, is it possible to extract some base applications from one ROM and install it on another one currently running on the phone (i9000 in this case), for example is it possible to extract ICS sms app and install it on a 2.3.3 ROM on the phone? or for example extract excellent Samsung keyboard from stock 2.3.3 ROM and install it in a custom ICS ROM?
2. How android manages input languages? for example I see one ROM providing 6 european languages and another with middle-eastern ones... does android provide a regular method to install and uninstall input languages from standard keyboard? (for example you may tell take X files from some ROM and add them to Y folder in another ROM) if so I may add some languages to an ICS custom ROM.
3. How it manages fonts? is there a regular method to add other fonts to the phone? and how to set the default one?
4. A strange problem I saw in a custom ICS rom was that it kept phone numbers in dash-based format (i.e. 090-233-23-23) and if the numbers already in address book was simple and dash-free, wile receiving incoming calls the phone app can't match the contact name in the address book and only shows the number! How you may change this? I like numbers stay simple and dash-free!
5. How to analysis all low-level OS files currently on the phone? for example is there some PC software similar to Odin that connects to phone and shows file system tree ?
Thanks in advanced for any help and reply
as far as keyboard goes if you are talking about swype you can get the swype beta which is free and works on Ics.
I have this on my phone running team icsgs.
Just do a quick google search for swype beta.

thanks for the reply,
I don't mean Swipe, all the features it provides, the way it changes language and...
I need to figure out how android provides modules
Hi, did you find out how input languages work? I just installed the ICS333 ROM on my Samsung Galaxy S (I9000) and would like to add Greek, which is not currently listed (in the Android keyboard settings > input languages).
low level?

[q] stock dialer

i understand that the phone.apk is part of the Android OS,here is what i would like help with:
replace stock [Dialer/caller id/Contacts] with RocketDial pro.
Phone is rooted on Froyo 2.2 samsung captivate.
I move the app to /sysytem/app and chmod it Then use Tibu to freeze the stock phone app
--->didnt work & force close...Any ideas? Thanks
Froyo? Really?
1. Froyo has Samsung dialer, not Google Android Dialer.
2. No need to do any changes to use third party dialer. Just make it default. I'm using slow and awkward DialerOne on ICS, didn't do any changes to ROM/OS.
How u make new dialer+caller id+contacts the default? Plz be explicit about the steps. (I like rocketDialer pro...
Thanks

There are plenty of Contacts apps as well. But you should talk to developer of you dialer.
