I miss the auto word suggestion / correction from the on screen keyboards. Any apps / software that you guys know of that will either give me suggestions while I type on the physical bluetooth keyboard? Or possibly something that underlines misspelled words and allows me to correct them, similar to most word processors?
Thanks!

I am sorry if this has been answered before, but I can't find the answer anywhere. How can I change the auto suggestions from the one that's in the screenshot to the older pop-up version?
Have you looked under start-->settings-->personal-->input? Once here select the input method you wish to use and customize it all the way. This should inlcude adding your own words to the dictionary/pop up suggestions etc.
I don't know the popup you mean but it sounds to me like it belongs to an older keyboard. You need to install that keyboard, if you can find a VGA version.
Failing that you could try another keyboard like Resco or TouchPal to see how you get on. I think the T9 system in TouchPal is great, a whole other level better than the HTC keyboards.
I was wondering how to get the word suggestions to the one in this screenshot.
Ths thread explains it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=445959
short version: disable T9 and use a different keyboard...

You can't use that one with HTC's keyboards. That belongs to Microsofts' built-in SIP's. I find HTC's much better and quicker to use. If you've only just changed from the 'old' word suggestions from Microsoft, maybe you need a bit more time to get used to them. Other than that, you'll have to use Microsoft SIP's instead of HTC's.
I'm sure if there was a way to resolve your issue, some wiz-kid here would have already done it
I forgot to mention this, but I am not use HTC keyboards. I am using PocketCM Keyboard v0.20.
I figured it out thanks to Steve in this form post #21: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=425405
Here is the suggestion which works!
found this in another thread
changes for auto complete
IMPORTANT: previously be sure that HKLM\Software\Tegic\eT9\XT9SupportMSSip has a value of 0.
Simply change these two registry keys under:
HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\control\layouts\e 0010409
Ime File : \windows\xt9ime.dll change to Ime File :\windows\compime.dll
and
Layout Text : XT9 IME change to Layout Text : COMP IME
And soft reset.
suggest words in a drop down list as in WM6
I've searched around these forums and google and no one seems to have asked this question. I find that the software keyboard often suggests non-words as if they are in the dictionary (e.g. ia, pu, br, and a lot of other short words) that make mistyping correction a lot less effective than it can be. Is there any way to excise these useless words from the built in dictionary?
Dont think so just take off auto correction =D " Setting - Locale & Text - Device Keyboard - Auto-replace =D ''
Yes but I would like to keep the auto correction... for example when I type "ia" I want it to autocorrect to "is" instead of "ia", which it doesn't do because "ia" is somehow in its dictionary
One of the features I use a LOT on my G1 is filtering lists. Just one example is in the contacts. I can start typing on the physical keyboard and the list shrinks as I do so.
Does the N1 also support this? If so, how? And also, if so, could someone post a video?
Thanks.
It supports this with the installed dialer called dial one. Works excellent.
Filtering lists on the Nexus One
Thanks for the reply.
Does the type-and-find operation work in the music player? On phones with a physical keyboard, you can start typing the name of an artist (when the artist list is showing) and it reduces down to artists that match the letters as you type them. Is this possible on the Nexus One?
I think I have the answer
I think the answer is a big fat yes. According to this post: Android ListActivity ArrayAdapter filtering with no physical keyboard, Nexus One users can long-press the menu button to bring up the on-screen keyboard and then filtering works as it does on devices with a physical keyboard.
I am glad to hear this. It means that my reservations about getting an N1 are lessened and that the app I am working on will be as useful on the latest technology as it is on the real-keyboard models.
Hello,
I recently update my tablet to 4.4.2 thanks to the zip files packaged by sdbags, very easy to update, many tanks to him.
Since update I'm experiencing a strange issue with the physical keyboard:
my physical keyboard is french so AZERTY instead of QWERTY.
it is properly set with french localisation in settings, I can type without problems in several apps BUT
When I need to enter a password, when caracters are hiden by a * after 2 seconds I have some key who doesn't match whith french keyboard.
it is only a few special caracters as @ or § but I use those caracters in my passwords
using asus virtual keyboard bypass the problem it an issue only with physical keyboard and only when typing a hiden password (google password, xda password...
Asus update cames with a bug in the keyboard?
Anybody get similar issue with physical keyboard?
thanks
florian
Hi Florian,
I have the same issue here with my German physical keyboard after the update.
Normal typing in apps is fine, but in most password forms special characters !+äöü etc. are mismatched.
There are of course no problems with the Asus software/virtual keyboard.
I have tried many different keyboard or language settings without success.
So "YES" there seems to be a bug for international keyboards/docks.
Uwe
Hmmm... Asus added some new keyboard layouts to the 4.4.2 release. I didn't see them remove any.
The way it normally works with the dock is, you must have the softwware keyboard set to Asus with the correct language and layout that you want to use and the dock mirrors this. If you install another keyboard or switch to google then the dock switches to US layout.
Make sure you have Asus selected as default and if possible disable the others to test. Check your language and layout of asus is working as well, then plug in the dock.
Ok I have disable the google keyboard and let only asus keyboard set in french AZERTY layout.
plugged on dock... same issue:
in google chrome physical keyboard is fr-fr
If I still with chrome but I need to login on XDA for instance; password field gets hidden caracters (after 2sec it's a *)
for un unkown reason my keaboard switch to belgian AZERTY fr-be layout difference are here http://fr.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/AZERTY
this behavior is only for password hidden field, exept this chrome is properly localized but get belgian accent to spell passwords
Well, I still have the same issue with wrong character assignments for special characters in password fields.
Meanwhile I have tried out many different settings/combinations of System/Keyboard languages without success.
In a German Android forum there are now some other users with the same key mismatch issues as well. So it looks like it is a bug with international (non-English) keyboards that needs to be fixed by Asus.
I suspect password type fields are forcing the keyboard layout from the language.kl file to something else - just need to find out which one and pint it back to the language one
I'll have a hunt about.
I have almost the same issue with a swiss keyboard.
However strangly, the issue for me only happens with secondary accounts. For my my main account, the keyboard mapping is correct. For all secondary accounts, it is US.
I have the same issue when using the dock keyboard...shift+2 shows up as @ and my password fields default to USA keyboard layout.
oddly enough for me, terminal emulator works fine, but chorme passwords or Juice SSH get the USA keyboard mapping and not the one set in the Asus Keyboard.
I'm free to test anything if it helps.

Same here, on my main Profile everything works, but i have Problems with Passwords, when i type them over the dock. And on a second profile the dock ist set to english keyboard qwerty instead of german qwertz so @ and other things are not usable as normal.
I hope they will fix it fast.
I have the same problem on my asus memopad ME176C with the latest 182 update and I don't use any kind of physical keyboard, just the virtual one, whenever I get in a password field, the keyboard switch to AZERTY and I tried everything including setting the tablet in english and switching to english us keyboard, but still, when I'm in a password field, the keyboard is the damn AZERTY. Anyone got a fix for this annoying issue.
folks
my accuracy with both the build-in google keyboard and swype is not what it has been with other phones and I do have long fingers. Anybody else noticed that and found a solution with another keyboard type? Anybody moved to standard typing instead of gesture?
Thx

I find myself doing a mix of both... and for me it's a toss-up between SwiftKey and the stock Google keyboard, the main difference being available themes, really.
I have noticed a difference in accuracy as well, but I think it's because of the size of the device. It's probably just going to take some getting used to. Try SwiftKey, you can reduce or increase the size of the keyboard.
I have this issue as well.. With small words I'm fine but longer words .. Terrible!
