[Q]help !bricked my captivate - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was trying to root my stock froyo. But somehow I was getting bootloop. Then I tried installing some stock rom through odin. But my bad day, it failed and now I have [phone...+..!...+..computer]. I couldn't go into normal yellow triangular download mode. Searched thru net and found out that this IS a download mode and I need to flash some good ROM/Bootloader/Kernel and I will be fine.
However, I have tried a lot of different odin flashable ROM?bootloaders, etc nothing works.
I saw a lot of ppl refering to this link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
However I have some question here, first it says open and then click start.. what will that do, we generally put some file in PDA or PHONE section and then we click start. I dont see any such file link there.
can someone help, please. Atleast take me to stock somehow. Now I dont want to root.

Use Heimdall One-Click. download it here. http://files.teamkomin.com/files.php?dir=Captivate/ get the KB2-Rooted version to save yourself some time.

Thank you. without that rooted rom, I was planning not to try rooting again. Thanks, it saved my captivate and rooted too

[Q] Giving Up On Kies Upgrade Attempt, How Can I Try 2.3 without JF6?

Hey folks. I basically just want Gingerbread on my phone, but I'm having issues doing it through Kies as it won't recognize the current firmware when I connect.
I'm not able to flash to JF6 in Odin OneClick without getting an ATT boot screen and nothing more.
Apparently I need to have JF6 in order to get Kies to recognize the phone. I'd like to get this done today (Been two weeks without full function), and I'm thinking I just want to flash to a good rom that runs 2.3.
Is there anything I can do to flash to something other than I896UXJL1-stock or I896UXJI2 TORONTO? These flash well, but are not what I was looking for. Again, I'm going to need something that doesn't require JF6, or another method to get JF6 on without getting stuck at the ATT screen.
Any flash with Odin does not require you to be on a prerequisite firmware, it will flash over whatever you're running.
Go to the Dev section, find a gingerbread firmware with bootloaders included, put phone in download mode and flash.
Full List of Necessary Files for Successful Flash
Okay, I've been browsing around, trying to find something suitable, but now it would seem that I'm not able to flash anything except for the OneClick method which gives me that ATT screen.
I read somewhere that later editions of the Captivate may not work out well with certain Odin flashes. I think my phone is 1038?
I'm hoping that someone might be good enough to show me how to get this thing to flash to what Samsung sent to Rogers from the factory, or at least to a point that I can successfully flash to 2.3. Right now I'm stuck.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Okay, I'm back to UXJL1, using Odin 1.81, and I also found a OneClick that reportedly switches out the bootloaders for GB bootloaders. I tried it, and it did give me an ATT screen, followed by a normal boot and I was back to having apps like Titanium crashing on boot, which is beyond annoying to figure out.
My biggest issue is that I think I have a decent grasp of what's involved in this process, but I don't know which file is compliant with which. I seem to always use 512 for the partition, but I see some variations in that. I also don't know what to do about the bootloader situation except the one tool I mentioned above.
Basically I could either use what I have, go back to Firefly, or keep trying this GB upgrade. I'd rather keep trying but I also need a phone.
I have a ton of different firmware files at my disposal and can download whatever else I need if mentioned, I also have a few different versions of Odin, and OneClick. I downloaded Odin OneClick 2.xx for rooting purposes and it seemed to work with a flash I did today.
Again, thanks for any help.
As for bootloaders. If the 1 click doesn't work, or you don't know if your phone likes 1 clicks I've attached a pda.tar and a odin in a rar that contains just GB bootloaders. This isn't my work I downloaded from somewhere in xda, I just can't remember where so I can't link. All credit to whoever created it. I can't speak specifics for I896 but random FC's usually means a bad flash. Try downloading again or another odin rom. Sorry I can't be any more help.

help with flashing back to stock!

hey guys have the rogers captivate 896. I have a jig for download mode. Ok so I was on miui gingerbread. I wanted to try with weUI ics. So I followed their procedure correctly. Install completed but like another user I got it hanging at the MI boot screen. So having to flash to stock before I felt comfortable. So I've always used odin 1.32. I set the pit file that came with it and downloaded the rogers. 2.2 stock files. I get in d/l mode, run odin does some things, and it gets halfway through the factoryrs file and fails. I'm freaking lost here. Any ideas on how to get this back to stock?
If its the same files you used before I'm willing to bet its a funky usb cable. But before you go buy another (unless you have a spare) Try rebooting machine running as admin re-downloading the firmware. Also probably not the issue Odin 1.35 is kinda older version, but thats just my personal thing.
on both of those and still no factoryrs pass. switched new usb cable, switched all ports. so if the ics files installed, would I be able to go back to 2.2 stock rom? can anyone walk me through this as I think I'm doing this write. I even tried clicking reset bootloaders and that didn't work. So here's what I'm doing.
have jig, go into d/l mode
start odin 1.82. check repart, and leave the other two checked. load 512 pit, phone tar file and start.
this seems insanely easy. did this before but even after 10 attempts it fails. could ics be messing this up?
Don't check repartition and try it.
shouldn't you always repartition it though?
going to try flashing from a different pc. so i'm able to get in d/l mode which I know is good. I don't know what took on my phone, I'm thinkin ics installed, so can anyone point out the proper procedure to go back to 2.2 on a rogers captivate? is it merely odin, 2.2 stock, check repartition, set pit and tar, then flash?
Search for a member that goes by trusselo he has done some good stuff for the Rogers captivate
Here is his xda page. look in his signature

hey I tried 3 different cords, 2 computers and multiple usb slots. All fail on factoryrs.rfs. So even in unchecking re-partition this tanks. I have a jig so getting into d/l mode is easy, I just can't get this darn thing back to stock. so i'm guessing (big guess here) I have ics files on my phone, how would I get back to 2.2. Be gentle I'm still slightly new at this!

I've used Odin to get out of ICS and I never checked repartition or use pit file. But I use I897's firmware. Never used i896.

what did you flash? I tried flash 2.1 and 2.2 both fail factoryrs.rfs. even tried odin 1.81. so it has to be something with the 2.2 and 2.1 rom. Just want to get this darn thing back to stock. any ideas?
Any GB firmware I had laying around. KH4, KJ3, KF1. I don't usually use GB anymore but I've needed to go back a few times to try things out.
see most posts i've read say you must repartition with 2.2 and below and can't use a pit file with 2.3. I'm wondering what'll happen if I just flash a gb 2.3.

Are you using 2.1 and 2.2 packages that have bootloaders on them?

I need help!

I'm in no way new to Android been around since the g1 era. I basically need help with installing a rom on my T-Mobile gtab. I've had my tab for over a year and I finally decided to root it last week. The problem I'm having is trying to load a custom rom onto it. Is there another way other than Odin that can be used or can I just download the roms and go straight to cwm and flash?

I have tried to do this several times in my own and my desktop will not let me extract the files that I need to do this on my own... just wanted to know if there was another way to put a from on my tab! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes you can install ROM from CWM, depends on which ROM you try to flash. Just find all the ROM at the Development section and choose the files with .zip. They usually are flashable from CWM.
for example, this rom is for GSM and are flashable through CWM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1497872
or if you are ready from ICSm you can also try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1385153
Those provide .tar usually flashable with ODIN.
If you decide flashing using ODIN, you have to make sure that you connect you G-tab to Samsung Kies first before trying to use ODIN. (To make sure you have the correct Samsung Driver installed to your usb port connection).
I hope that helps. Please make a note, if you are upgrading from FROYO to Gingerbread, you probably need to flash new PIT file, and probably datadb.rfs as well. These files, I'll recommend to flash them using ODIN.
Good luck, and be careful not to soft-brick your G-Tab.
Since you have T-mobile tab like me,
I think your best bet will be going to Overcome ROM thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1317384
Re-stock to Stock Safe 5 and then flash their kernel (all via Odin).
And from there you can CWM flash almost any ROM

[Q] HELP!! Massive Doomlord re-root problem after unroot

hey guys
i used the doomlord to root my note and everything was fine.
however, as i wanted to take my phone back to samsung for repair today i decided to unroot it so that my warrant would still be valid.
so i used the doomlord unroot kit and afterwards i realised that all the cwm and superuser icons were still there and i found that a little strange. so i thought i would re-root and re-unroot it again to see whether this problem would go away.
now here comes the problem. no matter how many times i tried re-rooting my phone, it kept saying that my phone wasnt rooted and i could not grant access to cwm etc, even though my computer said all the runs were successful...... so i am basically stuck with a note which cant be rooted anymore.....
by the way i am using the stock samsung rom (2.3.6) and kernel (kk1)
any help guys???
thanks

[Q] Help, Phone wont boot

Okay, so ive been stupid.
I had MIUI installed, 2.4.20, and wanted to get rid of the triangle at boot. I followeda guide ( jayceooi. com/2011/08/10/how-to-remove-yellow-triangle-on-samsung-galaxy-s2-without-usb-jig-video/ ) that suggested a kernel fiddling, and i checked which one i had etc. I had DXLP7.
Anyhow, it wont stop booting up, i guess it gets in a loop. I can still access stock recovery and download mode. I've tried a few more kernels that i figured it must be, but with no luck. Atm i just wanna recover my phone.
Please help.

Oh, missread the forum name, really sorry. Any mod, feel free to move the topic.
However, im really unsure of what rom to use, all the letters got me really confused. Now i've come to a 'i dont have anything to loose'-feeling, so im trying regardless of understanding the letters or not.
Edit: seems it worked.

Don't worry,if u are on ics then flash a ics stock rom ,if on ginger then flash ginger if u are in a boot loop.
Search samfirmware.com for LP7 rom.u need register to dl. And password is samfirmware.com to extract the file.if u don't know how to flash with odin.search for insanity rom in i-9000 forum.look for ezbase rom .there is one of the best toturials for using Odin.but DON'T use this rom,it's a i9000(sgs) rom,u need a l9100 rom.
@lntratech also have stock rom for l9100(gs2).those are flashable with Odin .but is flashed in PDA only.
Hope this helps
