i try midnight kernel 1st.
Semaphore and Midnight (maybe others) have a vibration sensitivity setting.
Since you mentioned it was too strong when you type, try going into your keyboard settings (Menu - > Language & Input). I'm fairly certain that SlimICS comes with a keyboard which includes a vibration setting. It would be under advanced settings.
NB) there are old Galaxy s i9000, me too (ie my Galaxy is November 2009) have a different hardware vibration.
My PDA for example don't have the spring effect; also I have a different chipset RAM : i have 8,2GB internal memory (my co-workers have 7,9 max 8,0 gb)
So there are some little differences;

Hi!
I'm new in this Forum and want to thank all you for your helpful posts!
I searched a lot, but I didn't find any solution for this problem (which seems to irritate also other users):
After upgrading to Android 2.2.1, 'Auto Brightness' does not work anymore. The problem is, that the Display gets brighter in the sun, but it does not reduce brightness in shade - which is very battery intense and irritating while driving in tunnels.
What I did so far:
+ checked and unchecked the 'Auto Brightness' setting many times ;-)
+ used widgets like 'extended controls' in the hope their settings will overwrite the problematic system-settings
+ was searching for the app "Auto Brightness" (SIMMO Publications) - which might be able to overwrite system settings. But downloading this app is not available for me (maybe because of country restrictions)
+ I rooted the phone - also for other reasons. With root I hope I can also reduce the minimum brightness level of 'Auto Brightness', which would be helpful using it as an alarmclock next to the bed.
Does anybody have an idea?
Best wishes from Austria!
No ideas to the Auto-Brightness Problem? People from Android-Pit-Forum didn't find a solution. So I changed to the forum with the best reputation ....XDA.. ;-)
It seems, that the light-sensor works well... because the button-light goes on and off according to the surrounding light intensity ...
Any idea or hint?
that's not a bug, that's a feature!
anyway - CM7 has the option just like you ask for - auto adjusting brightness to lower setting. there are also hysteresis options so you can prevent the brigtness going up and down all the time.

Thanx MuF123 for your answer!
This feature sounds great ... but I feel not ready to install CM7. All in all I am happy with my system right now. I learnded in the last two Android-years, that big changes for solving small problems can cause even more problems and time-intense problem solving actions... especially for me as a beginner.
So, does anybody know about a root-app or a module (eg. out of CM7) just for solving this auto brightness bug/feature ;-) ?
It would be very helpfull for me and others ...
this feature is in
Settings > CM Extra > Display > Automatic backlight > "Allow light decrease"
I wanted to tell you just so you can ask someone else about this exact feature, maybe the "CM Extra" can be installed as stand-alone app? Dunno, try to ask in CM7 thread.

Hi!
Unfortunately I am not allowed to post into the developement-forum...
Senior User 'MuF123' informed me, that CM7 has this feature, which I miss a lot (Settings > CM Extra > Display > Automatic backlight > "Allow light decrease").
My questions:
Can the app "CM Extra" be installed as stand-alone app in my rooted Milestone with Froyo 2.2.1?
Or is there another solution for me?
Not possible. Its integrated to the framework.

You mentioned an app "Auto Brightness" (SIMMO Publications) before. try to download that app after faking your network using "marketenabler" from market.
just my 2 cents
You can try the widgetsoid app from market.
Great idea!
Thanx. First I have to reanimate my milestone ... I killed it with deinstalling all Launchers ... stupidity pure

The app "Auto Brightness" (SIMMO Publications) is not in the market any more ...
... hmm any ideas, how to solve this problem? See my starting post below...

Does anyone kno of an app that can lower the lowest brightness level? I tried screen filter but i dnt like the tint it uses n it kinda distorts the quality of images and videos shown. I tried googling stll no luck. The lowest brightness level is still brite at nite.....
Have you tried turning off the Auto brightness feature and then manually reducing the brightness in the display options?
If you turn off Auto Brightness in your Display Settings, you can run your finger left or right along the top slide-down menu bar (the one that displays time, battery, signal, etc) to decrease or increase the screen brightness.
Srry i meant lowering the brightness lower than the lowest level limit. The screen is still to brite for me at the lowest level at nite.

Use this software from Android Market,
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.curvefish.widgets.brightnesslevel&feature=search_result
Android Os will report you zero brightness when you change it in settings, but still it has 8% brightness enabled, so the above software will help you to pulling it back to original 0%
Even better than that, I remember supercurio (iirc, or was it hardcore?) hacked the SGS kernel to enable to an even lower brightness setting ages ago. However I haven't seen this hack integrated into any kernels for ages (unless I'm missing something and it's already there)
Hardcore's Speedmod K13E kernel for 2.2.1 has a super low brightness level
Try the dimmer app, it is better than screen filter, not as grainy.

any oficial rom with lowest minimal brightness?
thanks
I'm sorry to bring this up again...
I'm testing out the last build teamhacksung's CM9 and it came with a bunch of options to optimize the brightness.
Although I've been experimenting on this options for quite a while, the brightness is very irregular. At one moment is very dark and for no reason the brightness comes back up while I'm in total darkness.
Do you have any idea of what's causing this?
I get this as well. Also, the screen will auto-dim after a short time of inactivity. How to control this?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Also, I have a friend with the same software as me, everything the same and his Galaxy S gets much darker than mine. Even when we have them side by side.
Try Semaphore's kernel on THS ICS. It has its own auto brightness that works well and has a Dark setting.
That said, I still use screen filter on top of that in darkness.

Semaphore's kernel disables the BLN for me.
What I did was...
In the definitions put the dim level to 6. And then I added a button in the notification bar for brightness and I gave it the automatic and dim options.
That way when I'm inside doors I put it to dim and when I'm outside I change it to automatic.

I have the exact same problem. I installed semaphore for the bigmem, but I hate the colours. Voodoo colours may look better at higher brightness levels, but I always use my phone at minimum brightness, and the colours on the semaphore kernal are pretty lousy. I downloaded Voodoo Control to adjust it, but I still can't get the colours on stock kernel.
I no longer use the Semaphore kernal as I'm not on a Samsung rom at the moment, but as far as I can remember it required copying a script to the init.d folder and rebooting. I'm sure it'll be mention in the OP of the kernal thread.
You could try adjusting it to get any colour you prefer. Since, you know, you have all the options in the world.
Or you could buy an iPhone if you want less options.
i tried adjusting it but it was not like stock ones and i also h8 the green flash when screen goes off

Voodoo - colour profile set to original.
Screen rgb multipliers set reset.
Screen v1 gamma hack reset to 2.3.3.
This will give you clear speedmod neutral colours.Sorry you cannot get stock colour on custom kernel butt this will bring you close to stock.
Hi mates..
Currently I own an HTC Flyer, been an HTC fan and would like to try this beast as it seems amazing, one thing though:
Is it possible to use the capacitive buttons as a notification LED? Thats the only thing why I would prefer the Galaxy Nexus over this as in every other aspect I think this beast wins easily..
Much appreciated, thanks..
Good question. If you could flash the capacitive buttons when you have a pending message that would be cool. But I don't know sorry. Just supporting this question.
I'm thinking though that those lights aren't as efficient as a normal LED? Too much battery usage?
I have a Samsung captivate, which has similar buttons. certain kernels would include this feature with an app called BLN. Had to be baked into the kernel to work though
The streak had an app called streakled which worked as long as the phone was rooted.

Just only root? cause the post above you says it has to be in the kernel..
Thanks for the reply mate

It is possible use the NoLed app for notification on the amoled display.
yes, just root. But there may have been differences in the way the captivate and the streak handled capacitive buttons which would allow the streak to have just root access but require kernel changes for the captivate. However, I dont know enough about such things to say what.

Hi, generally, it's possible using app called BLN control. However, that app requires a kernel support which is not yet stable for Note AFAIK.
I'm currently using NoLED which I do recommend - it works very well apart from a few glitches here and there (sometimes, the power button will not activate lock screen when NoLED notification is active - it would turn NoLED notification on/off. In that case I just have to use home button instead).
I would probably prefer BLN as it's simpler and should offer some battery saving against NoLED (possibly negligible) so I hope somebody makes a stable BLN patch for kernel. OTOH NoLED displays differently coloured icons for various events which is nice.

Hi mate thanks for the reply
Do you know if BLN works with CF-Root kernel?as that might be the only kernel I would flash on my Note when I have it..
EDIT: a quick question: does BLN work with lock replacements apps eg. WidgetLocker? I noticed that NoLED only work with stock lock..
Thanks again

As I said, one of the devs tried the BLN patches but said the kernel was then unstable so they are not included in any of the currently available kernels AFAIK.
I'm currently on Abyss 1.2 kernel and I can so far highly recommend it. Let's see in a few days.

I can't confirm that. I'm using WidgetLocker and my NoLED notifications work fine (just tested with a missed call). The only slight hiccup is that after you wake up the screen with the notification the stock lock screen is shown instead of WidgetLocker. I've got a feeling there is probably a way around this - spotted a HomeHelper in the WidgetLocker settings that should handle the Home button in certain situations (presumably like this one). Haven't been bothered enough to mess with these settings yet
Pete

Hi, I have almost eveything set the way I want but my last issue is the vibration intensity is too low. In gingerbread & foyo there was an intensity slider bar under Settings/Sound but no where to be found on ICS. I even installed an app to set custom vibration patterns to vibrate longer but I can't feel it in my pocket.
Does anyone know know how to increase the intensity for calls & notifications?
Thanks!
I didn't even realize that. I came from CM7 to ICS, and CM7's haptic feedback setting were amazing. Though in ICS. The Vibration seems powerful enough for me. My issue is not having the ringer, and notification volumes seperated.

under sound/volumes you need to deselect link volumes.
not found.
I'm using Team Hacksung's ROM. I can't find the option you mentioned anywhere. I'm guessing it's not implemented yet? I'll go ask over there. Thanks.
Yeah the vibration intensity is low on ICS. But I found out the only way to get normal vibration (like in Gingerbread) for Message Notification was to use a different Message app, like "GO SMS Pro" which gives me the normal vibration when I get incoming messages. So try using "GO SMS Pro" and see if it works for you.

App to control this
Do you know if there's an app or something to control this in ICS? The default haptic feedback is much to weak for my tastes.
Semaphore kernel allows vibration intensity control in v 1.0.0, and with that you can use NStools
Sent from my CM9 ICS i897 Captivate
I checked NSTools, and it doesn't mention being able to change vibration intensity.
Is it the kernel itself that allows this to be set? If so, is it a compiled option in the kernel, or what?
I'm not sure I understand how this tool works in conjunction with this kernel to allow setting this.
