[How to]Install Google Play on chinese ROM Galaxy S2 i9100G - Galaxy S II I9100G Android Development

Hi all,
When buying your S2 in China, you while probably have the bad surprise to discover Google Play is not installed on the device.
Even by installing some .apk downloaded from the web doesn't solve the issue.
I managed to got mine working. Here's how i did.
I find the hint here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351283
You'll need to Root your device first
Here's how it goes:
1) Install GoogleServicesFramework.apk
This seems to be the issue, as when you install it you can see the permissions Google requires, and pretty much says it can access ALL the data in your phone, even the private stuff. You've been warned. (what did you expect? it's still Google after all)
2) Install Google Play with any .apk you can find, as system app (see bellow):
Instructions (Thanks to Bandage)
-1. Transfer the .apk files to your Kindle Fire via PC / Mac (remember where you put them)
- 2. Open Root Explorer App, and navigate to the transferred .apk files
- 3. Select the GoogleServiceFramework.apk and install
- 4. When complete, click "Done" and return to the file location for Vending.apk
- 5. Long-press Vending.apk and select the "Move" option on pop-up menu
Navigate to /system/app folder
- 6. Change mount option from RO to RW (read-only to read-write)
Paste Vending.apk into the /system/app folder
- 7. Long-press Vending.apk and select "Permissions" from pop-up menu
Change permissions to match all other apps in this folder (rw-r--r--)
- 8. Install Vending.apk
- 9. Reboot device
3) Launch Google Play
You should now be able to input your account and login.
For the first login, you will probably need to turn on both Wifi and APN (also can try turning off Wifi and only use APN).
You can now browse the market, but still can not install any apps.
Final step: You'll need to send some e-mail to Google (go to google play web site -> help). Explain the problem, they need to allow Play to be used by your device.
Took me a couple e-mail to get it right. The google team was very kind open to help (unlike samsung).
Go ahead and install any app you want
I recommend starting by installing Market Unlocker (especially for those in China). It lets you get the market as if you where in another country.
Hope this has been useful.
And don't forget to press the Thanks button
I actually did this a while ago (I wanted to try it out first before sharing). So i may be forgetting some specific points. Let me know how it turns out for you so i can update this How To.
Cheers

Thanks!
I tried many other ways, but they just would not work on my I9100G!
Just now I have tried this simple method and it works perfectly.
For me the final step is not necessary.
Thanks again!

Thanks for the reply. I really appreciate.
Glad i could be of any help

I did add all google services on my chinese G in november, i basically have all google services working, including calendar sync, and still on stock GB.
What i did was to take all the google apps from CM and put them in the system app folder with correct permissions.
But i remember i did setup gmail sync before getting google market (now play store) to work correctly.
For the calendar, only the sync adapter is needed, do not replace other apps, it's not needed.

HI I followed the steps but at stage 3 after reboot I open google play it 'force closes' automatically. I cannot open play app. What may be the issue. This is Chinese phone, i also tried one of the market unlcker.. is there any specific version you can suggest ?
Ok now it opens google play and displays 'loading' but nothing appears. Funny that when I try to install it from website it says 'app will be sent/installed on your phone shortly' but nothing happens
I installed a market unlocker (some random one which configured my China phone for USA T-mobile - there are other countries i can configure for too)
Any guess what could be problem ?

It's not the right way!!!
It seems to work properly, but it may cause some problem, frequent FC for example. And some apps even can't work, such as Foursquare, which you can have a try. It's not only the Google Play but also the whole gapps that are not included in the Chinese ROM. The GoogleServicesFramework.apk and GooglePlay.apk are just part of it, so this problem can't be solved by simply installing some apks.
The right way is to download the right gapps from this page: goo.im/gapps and flash it from CMW.To do that, you must flash a kernel first, such as superatoms, lucir.
Or, you can simply root your phone and decompress that zip file and move it to your phone to the right folder.Never forget to fix the permission. You'd better do that through adb.

I can't agree with what you're saying. I have a chinese G and installed all google apps from Cyanogen wiki, with the exception of goggles, everything else work perfect ! Including Gmail with full sync, contacts with full sync, calendar with full sync, music working, books working etc ... Stock zcki1 rooted.

Ta
Thanx for the walkthrough. I got the market working but can't download. Will be contacting Google help soon.

ICS 4.0.4
They just released the ICS 4.0.4 ROM for China, that one also does not have any of the GAPPS, in addition some
service providers actively block Google services so installing GAPPS will do no good unless you set up a VPN

Can someone please explain where and how to change permissions!

What permission are you talking about?
If you are talking about the root, their are a lot of threads talking about how to do it on xda, and all over the web.

I think I may need an 'idiots guide' to all this because I have no clue and no idea what flash and all thats means.... I brought my S2 online and had no idea it was coming from China and that it won't have Google Play on there.
I have tried the above steps but can't even get the 1st one right.. :/
I have tried downloading 'Google Service Framework.apk' from my phone and computer but everytime it tries to install it, it finishes by saying 'Application Not Installed'. Really getting very confused and need urgent help. Please can you let me know where I am going wrong? Many thanks.

Seems you didn't root your phone.
But before doing anything, you should learn a little bit what you are about to do. There are several threads on root issues, or guides for begginers.
Also, double check if you have the i9100 or i9100G version. It's important when you root.

Just wondering about kernel version number too. Mine says '2.6.35.7-I9100'. Does this seem right? Thanks

You are checking the android version. That's not what's important. What you need to check is to take the same kernel version and rom version called basedband version (may be the similar with the build number). For example i have the i9100gzcle2 version. There are some threads about this around here.

Hi shivaraman.
I'm not sure i understand exactly what is your problem. Do you have Play installed? Can you install some apps with it? If yes, you're all good.
Market enabler is only going to help.you once you get Play working correctly. Market Enabler doesnt fix Play. It only simulate you are from another country, as if you changed your sim card.
I figured out this methode using android 2.3.6. There is no guaranty it works on ICS. I would suggest trying swiching back to 2.3.6 (if possible, it might be the hatdest part) and try the methode again. Play stays installed when upgrading to 4.0.4
A lot of apps are blocked due to the chinese ROM. Seem the bootloader is posing the problem and is locked. I still didnt find any solution for that. A couple month ago Odia started posting he may had a solution. But he never told what it was.

[Q] CyanogenMod 9 - remove account

I just flashed CyanogenMod 9 on my Touchpad and am loving it. I added one google account to it at first, which was great b/c it downloaded all the apps on my RAZR. But I want to remove the account because my daughter uses the Touchpad and I don't want her to have access to my gmail and talk, etc. (I am a newbie so I used the stable CyanogenMod, not the nightly.) I tried to go to remove account but it is grayed out and I can't figure out a work-around.
Any insights?
Thanks!

Try adding another account (make a new Gmail account). Once that's done, you should be able to remove the other one. Let her use this one as her email account, I'm sure she'll like that......
Or you could install an app protector and also switch off sync for that email so it doesn't receive notifications
The best app I have come across for this scenario is an app called switchme. It acts like how your computer would if you had two user account on there. Once you install it, you can create a new profile. Selecting it will reboot your device and start up as a clean ROM with no market apps and no google account linked to it. You can then add her google account to that profile (if she has one) and she can sync all her own stuff, not interfering with yours. You can then switch between profiles at will. Its an awesome app.
Here's a thread link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1465661
thanks but....
Thanks. I did add another account but I cannot remove mine. Looks like cyanogen doesn't have that enabled (because I was able to do that on my other daughter's Xoom when it was running gingerbread.
I would prefer not creating a new profile completely because then I'd lose all the apps that I've installed, like I did on the Xoom. I was able to turn notifications to my gmail account off but don't want her (or my ex!) to have access to my gmail.
Thanks.
Unfortunately this is an android issue. You can't remove the initial account you use without wiping data and starting over.

hmm, did not know that. So if that is the case, the OP should reset the device, and start it with a different gmail account for his daughter. Then he can add his regular gmail account afterward, install the apps he wants, and then remove the account when complete.
Or maybe use titanium backup to backup his current apps now. do a factory reset, then setup with a new gmail account, install TB on the new account, and then restore the old apps.
I still say the app I linked to is a good thing to get for his situation. Its two accounts running side by side and each person can log into their own account with their own apps and wont have access to each others. You can even set a password just like on a computer.

2. Explore to /data/system/ and find this file : accounts.db
3. Delete that file (accounts.db)
4. Reboot your Android device.
5. Voilà…you can register another account.

[Q] Installing ONLY Google Play (or replacing)

Hi there.
I recentely re-flashed a CM7.2 official.
I want to get the cleanest device. I don't want any crap on. NO CRAP policy!
So, I wanted to roll without Google apps. No Google Play, no Gmail, no nothing.
Using the email.apk for mails, Opera as a browser, and only games and performance tool.
It works cool and extremely fast.
Only one issue:
Opera can't download new apps from Google Play (play.google.com).
Does anybody knows how can I download ONLY google play? Or some way to download apps from the store without downloading the full google apps?

Download the gapps package (but don't even put it in sdcard), open with a archive manager (WinRAR, WinZIP, 7zip etc) and extract Market.apk or similar (only the market), put that .APK in sdcard and install it from the phone (or you can download lastest market searching in the forums, but Market included in gapps for GB works fine anyway).
If you want to update (remember, the version you have installed is Android Market, not Google Play), just search market-updater.apk (or similar) in the package and push it via adb (I don't think it will install directly) to /system/app directory in your phone, and then reboot. Then, open the market and it will prompt to replace the Android Market (or after closing and opening again) for the Google Play store. The Market will not update itself without the market-updater.
Thanks a lot for the quick and informative relpy!
I do have a question though - From past experience, if I disable proccess like google-framework and such that contains the login information, the google play will not function at all. The login is bound to a different application, and I do not want to install these.
Is it possible by any means to download directly through a browser?

I think there is a add-on from Google Chrome that let download APKs directly to your computer, but if you meant to install via other ways in your phone, I really don't know because Opera (and others APK) require Google Play Store installed, and Play Store needs a Google Account to link all apps (free and paid) to your account.
Well obviously I understand I need a google account. What I mean is, I want to be able to log in to Google from my Opera and download apps from play.google.com. Right now it works up to the point of the popping-up download screen to verify my device, than I click download and nothing happens.
Newsflash:
I decided to give up and partially install market like you said. Got a new vendor.apk and installed it, obviously when I ran it just closed saying that I need a to sign in on my google account but since I had no google framework it didn't even offer to let me log in.
Installed google framwork too, now it gives me the sign-in screen and after I enter username/password it simply can't establish connection to the server.
Yes, I have checked and I have both a valid wifi and a 3g connection.
Any suggestions?
Edit:
Got it to work eventually, I hope it will serve my uses right.
Edit2:
I was optimictic too early
Now whenever I try to download anything with the Google Play Store it shuts down unexpectedly and does this until I manually enter the Google App info page and delete additional user data,

Egozy, the way I get rid of the crap is - flash the full gapps and then delete the apps I don't need (Email, browser, gallery3D and what not). BUT, there are apps that you can't delete and are related to the functioning of other apps.
What you can delete from CyanogenMod is covered in CyanogenMod Wiki - Barebones
Download GAPPS and install via CWM

[Q] Google Apps Permissions

I've read a bit on Google Apps permissions, but I'm kind of stuck figuring out how to/what needs to be set for Google Play Movies to work consistently without having to reinstall it again after shutting down the KFHD. I can only surmise that something doesn't have the correct permissions set. Any help here?

Since no one replied yet, I'll try to help. There is a post about GAPPS without rooting so I'll paste instructions here and maybe you can get the permissions:
1. Enable installation of applications from unknown sources in Kindle Fire Settings.
2. Install GoogleLoginService.apk.
3. Reboot.
4. Install the Google Apps.
5. Start YouTube. Sign In. It will take you to Google Account Manager to create/use existing Google credentials.
6. Same goes for other apps. In case sign in fails for any of the apps (except Maps/GTalk) drag down the Kindle Fire notification bar, click on the notification for "Permission requested....." and assign required permissions.

Can't see the notification in the pull down. Maybe I need to go into settings to see those notifications.
I gained access ability to the notification when I installed the GoogleLoginService apk from what I remember.

[Q] Miui v6 GAPPS force close

Hi togehter,
I updated to MIUI V6 4.8.29 yesterday. Right now I have the problem that GAPPS aren't working so whatever I do.
I installed from the MiMarket Google installer and tried to install Google Play and the other 3 required apps, but always when I launch the Play Store this message comes across me (too stupid to upload, just look here LINK ).
I also tried to just flash normal Anroid 4.4.4 GAPPS from the internet but thats neither working. None of the apps is showing up, just as I never installed anything.
So right now I'm in troubles... Hope you guys can help me
Greetings!!

Tried them already, failed during installation in CWM..
Had the same problem, you need to update Play Store.
Download google installer, install all the google apps you need, then download and install this: http://www60.zippyshare.com/v/95809041/file.html then restart the phone. That should work.
The only gapp that force closes is the Play Store. The rest work as it should.
Try uninstall Google Play and reinstall it, work for me.
Thanks for the answers: as in another forum mentioned, reinstalling Google installer and then install the Play Store at last worked for me.
But your ways probably work too!
Greetings
Hi there,
If anyone still encountering FC/not dowloading apps for Playstore or market, it might also be the cause of new partition or something like that, you can try this another option freely other than fixing permission of vending.apk on /system/app/..
This might help you guys .
1. check if cache folder has "download" folder inside it, if it no download folder then create one inside /cache, e.g. mkdir /cache/download.
2. then chmod the /cache folder to 777, also make sure the com.android.vending folder is present inside /data/data/ folder.
3. You can achive it through shell terminal.
Hope this helps you guys fix the FC(Force close or not downloading apps on playstore or market).
Hit thanks if it helps.
Thanks

If your phones rooted, open any app that can show you the full list of permissions, services, etc, of the playstore, and any app (play services, framework, etc..) and enable them all. I did everything that other post said to do, nothing worked, until I did this, and viola! it works!

[Root] How to enable Google Now in Android 5.0 Lollipop in every country

How to enable Google Now in Android 5.0 Lollipop in every country (where it says "Google Now in not available in your country) or (Google location reporting is not available in your country ) Root Required
You can skip this (there are thousands of changes in Android Lollipop, first thing you notice when you take a look at /system/app or /system/priv-app you can see the applications are not scattered apk's and odex files, now they are arranged in folders containing the corresponding odex and lib files).
I take no responsibility if you did something wrong
Let's start:
1- Install any third party launcher like Nova launcher and open it. Also you need any file manager with root capability ( I use X-plore file manager and in its configuration just enable root with read/write )
2- Download Google search 2.6.xxxx and rename it to Velvet.apk link: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23017610006233988
3- Now go to settings/apps/all and clear data for Google Search (this also will erase your setup for Google now launcher)
4- Open the file manager, navigate to /system/priv-app and backup (copy) Velvet folder with all its contents to a safe place in your SD card.
5- delete all contents inside velvet folder then copy Google search 2.6.xxxx (renamed as Velvet.apk) to velvet folder and check the permission is chmod 644, like the screenshot below
6- Restart you phone, and open Google search and tap Yes, I am in
7- After completing the Google Now setup, open the file manager and restore velvet folder (you backed it up) to it's original place in /system/priv-app (over write velvet.apk) and make sure that the 3 files in /velvet/lib/arm and velvet.apk permission is chmod 644, while the folders (velvet, lib, arm) permissions is chmod 755, like screenshot below.
8- Restart your phone and enjoy Google Now launcher with Google Now page
If this is a guide, it should be in general.

Yes it is a guide, I thought it is somekind of troubleshooting

It doesn't work on Android 5.0.1
It doesn't work on Android 5.0.1
Many thanks
I can confirm it works flawlessly!
I tried it on GPE HTC One M8 running 5.0.1 and I can confirm it works. It was a little tricky though because there was almost no space available on the system partition, so I had to delete some system apps to free up some space for the mentioned operations. But thanks to this thread, I got my Google now up and running! Thanks guys!
Google Fit
