Is there a way to enable CallRecorder on IncS to record clean sound from both sides from line, not from mic, because the sound is very bad? I found THIS site and there is sad that "Requires the kernel with 2-way call recording patch"? I tried but cannot find anything about that, anybody know where to find that kernel, or is there some other application that can do call record with clean sound? I tried couple of them from market but none is good. Thanks.
Unity kernels have 2wcr patch. There's app in first post and mirror in last.
Thank you. You mean on THIS therad? I have Incredible S v.2.3.5 sense 3.0, stock ROM, rooted, unlocked bootloader with HtcDev, S-ON. Is this compatible with my device? I just need to flash form CWM/install from zip? Where i can find stock kernel, if something go wrong to return to stock? Thanks!

Yes sorry I forgot to post a link. As you are s-on, the easiest way to flash this kernel is to replace your cwm with the latest version of 4ext touch recovery. To restore the the stock kernel, just restore the boot.img that you backed up as a nandroid in 4ext before you flashed unity But you should have no issues.
Thanks again. I never used 4ext touch recovery, is necessary to flash kernel with that tool or i can also do it with cwm? I already done nandroid backup from cwm.

You cannot flash a kernel with cwm on a s-on device. 4ext is very easy to use. You will have to redo your nandroid as I don't think the cwm backup method is compatible with 4ext.
So i just install 4ext, beside cwm, wright?

Download the app in the 4ext thread and flash from there.
I downloaded 4EXTRecoveryUpdater.apk and install from there, everything went ok but when i boot into recovery it's still CWM, not 4ext, what to do?

You need root access, then select online install. I don't know if you have done either of these things as your post contains insufficient information.
Yes, i have root access (superuser) and i selected online install, and installation went well, installed 4EXT Recovery Touch v1.0.0.5 RC3 (latest). But, when i want to boot into recovery (power+volumedown), phone boot in CWM (which i installed 2 days ago) instead of 4ext. What i am doing wrong?

The app should give you a copy of the 4ext recovery in your downloads folder, you might want to flash it manually. The app gives options to reboot into recovery, you might need to use it.
I use the option in the app to reboot into recovery, but it rebooted in CWM. How to manually flash the 4ext?
Ok, i used 4ext file from download folder on phone and flash the img with fastboot flash recovery command and now i have 4ext touch recovery. Now, i boot into recovery, choose install zip from sd card, and install UNITY_V9_2.6.35.14 from my sd card, and i will have unity kernel, right?

Use the app to flash the kernel. Make sure you have s-on smartflash enabled in the recovery settings and create a backup first.
"S-On: 4EXT SmartFlash - This setting is unavailable for your device". This option is greyed-out and i cannot select it?

Hmm, did you tell the app you were s-on when you installed it?
I don't remember i sow that question during install, can i check it out now, or re-flash and tell the app that i am s-on?
edit: i just re-flashed and there is NO question at all, just installing and done!
I found this: "This is done when you install recovery and answer the question that you are s-on with "yes".
You can also change that setting later on via RecoveryControl -> Recovery settings, or by editing 4ext.prop manually"
How to edit 4ext.prop manually?
I found that file on sd card and edit it, now is s-on=yes (was NO) but nothing changed. I reboot and recheck 4ext.prop and there is s-on=NO, again. I send mail to madmaxx82 and this is what it say:
"yes it's like that. Your device is unsupported by SmartFlash, because it's technically impossible on your device, which means you need to flash kernels/boot and even recoveries with fastboot. Sorry, but there is absolutely no way!"
So, can i flash UNITY kernel with fastboot with s-on?

I guess you could try booting the recovery in fastboot.
Code:
fastboot boot recovery.img
and flash the kernel.zip from there, but this method is unconfirmed on our devices.
Otherwise you will have to go s-off if its that important to have this feature.
Ok, thanks. I want to try to downgrade and gain s-off.
In your thread "[TOOL][SCRIPT][20 Feb 2012]S-off for HBOOT 1.16 and above v3.1" is a link to RUU used for downgrade. In that RUU the radio is 20.2808.30.085AU_3805.06.03.03 and i have higher radio (20.482.30.0822U_3822.10.08.28_M). Somewhere i read that downgrade the radio can brick the device? Or that can happened only if try to downgrade with lower version of android, like from Gingerbread to Froyo? I have Gingerbread, like the RUU for downgrade. Can i safely use your script to downgrade and s-off my device?

Anyone know how to root Nexus One 2.3.4? I've done a few search but I can't find a full guide for that.
Thank you. Peace.
Since Gingerbreak doesn't work with 2.3.4(IIRC), what you can do is:
1.
- Downgrade to 2.3.3.
- Use gingerbreak to get root, flash custom recovery.
(If you downgraded to froyo, you can root it with z4root or SuperOneClick)
- Get ChainsDD's Superuser in flash-able .zip file. Copy it to SD card.
- Get 2.3.4 OTA update patch, copy it to SD card. If you don't want to lose custom recovery, open zip file with any archive utility, delete /recovery from zip. It will prevent stock recovery from restoring.
(If you downgraded to froyo and rooted, you need to get all OTA patches for upgrading to 2.3.3 and 2.3.4)
- Boot to recovery, flash (modified) OTA update patch. Don't reboot the device yet.
- Flash Superuser.
If you can use any application that requires root permission, you're done.
2. Unlock bootloader, push custom recovery and Superuser.
3. This requires Android Kitchen.
- Downgrade to 2.3.3 and root, flash custom recovery, same as 1.
- Get 2.3.4 system dump here.
- Use Android Kitchen to make rooted stock 2.3.4 package. When it's done, copy it to SD card.
- Backup all your data before proceed.
- Reboot to recovery, flash the package you made.
- Reboot and check. If nothing's wrong, you will have rooted stock with custom recovery.
Or when you're on 2.3.4, go to fastboot, flash a custom recovery, flash the superuser.zip

unlock bootloader will wipe all data on device.
Hi guys, thank you for the tips.
So the best way is tho unlock the bootloader? I have no issue to do that since my warranty is finished. Doesn't matter whether it wipes out my data. I have few questions:
1. After I unlocked my bootloader, can I update any upcoming firmware OTA in the future? Or I have to flash it via sdcards.
2. I've heard about rebooting will unroot the phone. Is it true?
3. How do I unlock my bootloader?
4. Is changing rom will reset the phone to factory setting? Will my phone get unrooted?
Sorry I'm quite a noob here. Peace! Appreciate any helps.
1. With unlocked bootloader you do what you want.
2. No.
3. Read the wiki or a another guide. Mainly get the needed software onto a computer and run fastboot oem unlock when the phone is in the bootloader.
4. Flashing/updating to any rom that does not have root included you will loose root. With unlocked bootloader that is no issue. Flash custom recovery then flash su = root.
Great! Thanks!! I will search for a guide and unlock my bootloader soon!

Use passimg.zip. However, if it has really unlocked bootloader, all you have to do is use fastboot to flash custom recovery and any custom rom you want without doing so.

Use passimg.zip, though it depends on your main version saved in bootloader. If you can get FRG33 or FRG83 passimg.zip(though I wonder if you can find it...), use that, then (manually) update them until you reach 2.3.3.

I feel daft; I have unlocked the bootloader but cannot root, how ridiculous is that.. Am on 2.3.4 build GRJ22.
I'm trying to install "Root" (point V) on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=636795 but cannot enter the recovery, getting "triangled" for ever & ever.

Not sure what the guide says, but:
Download and place this zip on your SD.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6408470/su-releases/su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip
When connected in fastboot, type:
fastboot flash recovery name-of-recovery.img
fastboot boot name-of-recovery.img
Then flash the su zip - DONE!
Note:
name-of-recovery.img should be replaced with the actual name of the recovery image you have.
The recovery image needs to be located in the same folder on your PC as fastboot.
If your using mac or linux, fastboot may need to be substituted for fastboot-mac or fastboot-linux, etc.

I think the problem is in that the "recovery-RA-passion-v2.2.1" isn't supporting build GRJ22 yet. Doing the above correctly (I think) but cannot boot into recovery.

SD isn't required to install recovery, but you will need it for the su zip.
What sort of message are you getting when you flash recovery?

If your bootloader is unlocked all you have to do is reboot into fastboot mode. Flash a custom recovery such as RA or CWM, reboot directly into revovery and flash su.zip or whatever flash zip you used to root your device before. Reboot and you are rooted once again.
The following thread has a step by step how to do it. It's fast and easy.

I'm sorry I have no idea what that is. I don't even know if its helpful at all. Again, I don't even have root, or a custom recovery. Presently, I have an unlocked bootloader, ADB on my PC, and a half-rooted nexus one from before 2.3.
I have absolutely no idea how to do anything presently, and when someone tells me that trying to root on 2.3.6 is futile and to just use a custom update, it doesn't make any more sense to me.
Care to elaborate past one line that doesn't help at all? Hell when using shell commands through adb, it keeps on saying "permission denied" any time I type in su.

Thanks Danger-rat. Although I know you said nothing different that what was already said in this thread, I figured that since you didn't give me specific info about whether or not there were multiple versions of su.zip or fastboot.zip, I figured I should take that as a "No.", so I went for it. All re-rooted now.
I appreciate the help.
EDIT: So if you are as new to this stuff as I am, anyone else who's reading-
You can DL su.zip from http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...ZxOuf9Kw_URvtvh9Q&sig2=Hj72LDNoiBq2Zoa4QquZWQ

then follow the directions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1019759
** Note: again, these are for people who have unlocked bootloaders. For that info, you'll have to go elsewhere, but it should be readily available, such as this stuff is. I'm just linking it again because I know how frustrating it can be for people like me who aren't too well versed in rooting/unlocking yet.
Downgrade 2.3.6 to 2.2.2 - Nexus One
Problem:
I would like to downgrade my Nexus One to 2.2.2, because I've had non-stop problems with Gingerbread.
So I've gone through the Bootloader -> Recovery -> apply sdcard:update.zip steps, and it fails. This begs the question, how do I go from 2.3.6 to 2.2.2?
Fix:
Generally, phone manufacturers will not allow you to downgrade for various reasons. The stock recovery does indeed validate the update image, so that it's of a greater (or same) version than the installed system. With the Nexus One being a developer phone, you can unlock the bootloader and replace the recovery image with the one that doesn't perform this check, and will allow installation of any image. The caveat is that unlocking the bootloader voids your warranty with the carrier (and sometimes the manufacturer too,) and wipes all user data off the device.
Unlocking the N1 is dead easy. Just install Android SDK and the USB drivers (located in "google-usb_driver" directory.) Then restart the phone in bootloader mode by shutting it off and powering on while holding down the trackball, hook it up to the computer via USB, and in command prompt issue the following command: C:\<path to Android SDK>\tools\fastboot oem unlock. You will be presented with a confirmation screen with further instructions. Upon successful unlock, you can flash a custom recovery that will allow you to install any custom ROM, including downgrade to 2.2.x stock version of Android OS.
To flash ClockworkMod recovery, download the latest version for Nexus One from here, reboot into bootloader mode (power on while holding the trackball down,) and in command prompt issue command C:\<path to ANdroid SDK>\tools\fastboot flash recovery C:\<path to downloaded img>\recovery-clockwork-3.0.0.5-passion.img
Reboot to bootloader mode again, and then use the Volume keys to highlight the "Recovery" option and press Power button. You are now in ClockworkMod recovery, and can flash any custom ROMs via the "Install zip from sdcard" option.
Here is a "stock" 2.2.2 ROM (with root) off XDA-developers forum.

Try It & Report Back...
I'm not too experienced in flashing roms so please have some patience with me.
I recently installed the ota update from htc and then unlocked the bootloader through the official htcdev site. I then flashed clockworkmod recovery through fastboot and flashed cm7 through CWM. I'm still running cm7 at the moment.
However, I am now not able to restore my phone back to the stock rom. I tried to restore the stock rom through a backup I did on nandroid in CWM. It went through all the steps and told me that the backup has been successfully restored. But after choosing the reboot phone option, the screen shows the white HTC screen, followed by a black screen for a couple of seconds, then the white HTC screen again, and then it finally brings me to CWM.
I'm not sure what I can do to restore my phone to stock rom. I went back to cm7 and tried to restore using ROM manager but it didn't work out too.

I have the same issue, I have a feeling about the cause but it is just a brainstrom. I could be wrong.
It might have something to do with ext4 vs ext3 file system. Custom roms usually format your phone in ext4 format while the stock rom only supports ext3
I would try and search a a format script that formats in ext3. (zip file format so you can flash it through clockwork or something)

With the unlocked bootloader, when the device is in recovery mode, it cannot overwrite the boot.img partition. So when you flash a custom ROM in CWM, you must manually extract the boot.img file from the zip file and flash it manually in Fastboot mode using the command:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
In the case when you are attempting to restore a previous backup, the same is true, except in this case you would manually flash the boot.img from the CWM backup folder in Fastboot mode.
This should solve both of the situations you have encountered.
Okay that method worked a charm. Just flashed back the stock rom.
Thanks for much for that!

Weird, didnt work for me. Dit you manually flashed the boot.img extracted from the nandroid backup?
Yup. So i took the backup from my sd card and put the backup onto my computer. Then I used clockworkmod recovery to restore the backup, and then used fastboot on the computer to manually flash boot.img through usb.
Hope that helps
Cannot restore with the procedure.
I have been trying to restore stock rom but I'm unable to do it.
I flashed boot.img using command prompt.
Restored it via Clockworkmod recovery but after restoring when i reboot the phone, it again takes me to recovery mode.
What should I do?
Maybe it is because you have changed the backup name.. I heard that if you change the stock from backup name you will wreck the md5sum ...

Today, i wanted to learn how to flash new roms onto my phone because i wanted the ice cream sandich rom. So i tried to flash to meDROID ICS 4.0.3 CM9 v6. The pre-requisites were that i needed to have blackrose hboot, with the partition resized.
So i downloaded the hboot files and set up adb and downloaded the blackrose files as well. First i used BREditor and resized my partition accordingly (220,16,200). Then i used BlackRose.exe to flash BlackRose onto my phone...i practically did everything the tutorial video told me to. At the end i presses "Wipe All". then the cmd closed and my phone was in bootloader. I downloaded the ICS 4.0.3 CM9 v6 files, and put them into my sd card and went into recovery and installed zip from sd card. While installing, it gave me an offset which i dont clearly remember, and then it completed the installation. I rebooted the system and now it keeps rebooting into recovering mode...and i don't know what to do.
I think i'm doing the BlackRose part properly, but i think i'm not partioning it properly. If you could please provide some steps to partition it and use cmd/adb to command my phone to partition. It would be a great help.
I know this post is redundant as many others have posted, but i honestly don't understand it. Any help would be of great value.
Thank you.
Hi. No worries. If you are getting a reboot loop, you probably need to rewipe everything again. I wiped at least 3 times.
The other thing is, I also partitioned my sd card t ext3. That might also be an issue for you as well if you did not do it. Not sure though as I did not try the install without the repartitioning. I also did not use the BReditor as I just flashed the correct blackrose file via fastboot. But the BReditor seemed pretty straight forward.
To re-partition you need to use 4ext or amon ra. I used 4ext, very nice program.
To look if blackrose is installed:
1. Go into bootloader
2. In the first line on top stands "*Blackrose-Made by Lecahe1...."
3. In the second line stands "data-220/16/200"
Okay, let me explain what's happening:
1. Resize Partition (using BREDITOR)
2. Open up BlackRose.exe and follow the instructions, and phone goes into bootloader.
3. Flash the hboot.zip that was provided in the BlackRose official thread.
4. Phone installs the hboot and boots normally into my CyanogenMod 7.0.3.
5. I go back into bootloader, and I don't think anything is installed.
This is what i see in bootlader:
NexusOne PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.35.0017
MICROP-0b15
TOUCH PANEL-SYNTH0102
RADIO-5. 00.00.04

So where am i going wrong?
Did you install a recovery before you started this endeavor? Like amon ra, or 4ext?

I already had Cyanogen Mod 7.0.3. I went into clockword mod and it flashed the last clockwork mod recovery for me.
the problem is you must first install blackrose and then resize partition.
1. connect usb (with usb debugging on)
2. start blackrose.exe and install blackrose
3. and then resize partition
clockworkmod is ok, I also installed blackrose with clockworkmod
and why flash you back to hboot.zip? That's only when you want back to stock hboot...

How would i resize partition after i install BlackRose because my phone would go into bootloader. To resize, i would have to use fastboot commands, and i'm not very familiar with those.
there's a very good video how to resize partition:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_D3shjrNq8&feature=youtu.be
I've followed that video exactly, so many times..but i can never get it because it doesn't change anything...
The version of blackrose I flashed I attached to this reply. I flashed it via fastboot, not difficult. Once you flash it, go back into recovery and resize partition. I don't know about CWM, but 4ext and Amon ra allow you to partition your sd card inside recovery, that is what he is telling you to do.
And after you repartition, you can then flash your rom via recovery.
I think you forget, that on this video he had already blackrose installed!
so you must first install blackrose and then the video.
Okay, so you can partition your SD card in clockwork mod. It gives me Ext Sizes of 128M, 256M, 512M, 1024M, 2048M, 4096M. Which one should i choose?

OHH! so first i install the stock BlackRose, and then when partitioning, i must do all that process just to partition the drive! okay, i'll try that. Then i must wipe 3 times and install the rom? Hopefully this works. I'll get back at ya in 5 minutes
Okay, so i installed BlackRose.exe and then it went into bootloader. Do i have to reboot normally and go into my phone so that usb debugging is on, and then use BREditior/BlackRose to partition?
^ nope, no luck. Tried doing that too. Because once i install BlackRose.exe.. my phone goes into bootloader, and after that i can not use BlackRose.exe to partition my phone because it does detect as an adb device...
Then reboot and connect again with usb debugging on.
Yup, did that too and nothing happens. Still says this in bootloader:
NexusOne PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.35.0017
MICROP-0b15
TOUCH PANEL-SYNTH0102
RADIO-5. 00.00.04

P.S I have a question. The first time we try installing BlackRose. Should i press Advanced Install -> Stock BlackRose -> Have not partioned OR should i just press Install, rather than advanced install.
just press install please.
advanced is only when you already have installed blackrose
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I got it working! WOOOT! I love you all. Thanks to XDA Developers for providing this helpful community! Thank you so much Ruud!
With this new ROM, is there any wifi instability? because i keep losing my wifi connection D:
Glad you got it working! I have had no instability of any kind. Generally in the past on other roms when I have had problems like that it has been because I did not wipe enough.
What radio firmware do you have? You should have at least 5.08. If not, I would imagine you would have some instability.
After you install custom recovery. recovery to be able to return to the stock again? How if possible.? waiting for help.

Grab a RUU and extract the recovery.img file from the ROM.zip. Then flash the recovery image in FASTBOOT USB mode using
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Thank you for the reply. Another method yet? ready to file the form. examples. sensation, such as stock recovery is installed?.
Ouh.
For my little brain.
I use MIUI S-OFF (Clockworkmod installed with CWM Recovery).
I extract the recovery.img from a RUU go in fastboot and use the android SDK to flash it?
What is with the S-OFF and what happens then? Is it S-ON then?

S-OFF is controlled by the HBOOT/bootloader. Installing another recovery image will not affect the bootloader, so you will still have S-OFF. However the stock HTC recovery does not allow you to flash custom ROMs.

OK, in looking at your posts again, are you asking how to backup your phone using a custom recovery so that you can restore it later?
If so, you would use the Backup option on the recovery menu and it create a backup file of the phone's current image to the SD card.
If you wish to restore this backup file, you would choose the Restore option on the recovery menu and then choose the backup file on the SD card.
If i install the Stock, the ROM doesn't allow to flash custom roms.
How do you mean that? Isn't it possible to install CWM +Recovery and flash a custom rom?

Yes it is possible to flash a custom ROM with CWM recovery. But if you reinstall the stock recovery (which is what I thought the original poster was asking), it will overwrite CWM recovery and you won't be able to flash a custom ROM.
Realy? And how can i get it back?

If you are still S-OFF or have an unlocked bootloader, then you would simply reinstall CWM.
Ok thanks i will give it a try!
Thanks for your answers
