Screen burn at status bar - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Today I used my phone on landscape mode. I noticed that there is bluish bright color where status bar usually is.
It is visible at white, grey, and blue backgrounds. I start using custom launcher now to hide status bar.
Do you know how can I fix like stuck pixel solving applications?
Thanks

Just by hiding the status bar and switching between 12/24 hour clocks will help. Also use landscape mode more often. It should clear up. Try to use dark colored backgrounds/themes too. Blue is the first color to cause problems with amoled.
Also lower your screen timeout time to 15 or 30 seconds to reduce wasted screen time while also saving some battery. But hiding your dock amd status bar with your launcher will help go a long way too. I use Nova and set them both to hide with finger gestures making it easy

This will only prevent further damage though. Anything to fix current damage?
Also I tried nova to hide, but bar comes back every time I use an application. So it hides only on desktop. How to hide always? I want to be on full screen always.

All this accomplishes is to even the burn out - similar to grinding a screen with sand paper/grit to "buff out a scratch."
Can't fix burn out.

Actually you may be right. I am not sure but it might me more visible now. It did not fix at all.
Any suggestion to hide status bar always? Also is there any fix?
I don't want to return back the phone because:
1. I have to unroot and change CF-Root kernel.
2. I have to go back to GB.
Then, I can go to where I bought this. And I will need to wait maybe 1 month to get replacement or fix.
If I cannot fix this by myself, I will go to shop just before warranty ends which means 1.5 years later. It is not visible on photo/games/other colored backgrounds.
If no fix, I just want to hide status bar even if any application is open.

No you can't fix the damage that has already been done.
From another thread were I posted....
Use launchers that hide the notification bar on home screens.
Don't use apps that don't have the option to hide the notification bar.
Use full screen browsing with browsers such as Opera Mobile
And don't leave static images on the phone for extended periods of time.
And for the love of god don't use a cradle or docking station because that will destroy your screen! Think about it? Leaving your phone on all day at work in its docking station showing the time and weather. What do you think is going to happen to that screen?

I cannot believe you just made me notice this! Damn that's annoying me now! Blueish tint.
Edit... does having a black status bar still cause this?

I always had black status bar. I don't know how it happened. Now, I start using StatusBar+ . I will cycle through Red Green Blue(maybe no blue for a while) for color of status bar. Also icon colors will be cycled as well.
Sorry I made notice you the defect. I won't buy Samsung phone anymore. HTC Desire was better First slight horizontal lines/tint and now this burn in. I say it is low quality.

Only way is to get screen replaced. I heard other user state Samsung will do this service for you as long as your phone is under warranty but you must send it in to them.
Or pay for shop to replace screen for you.

Since I know there is defect, my eyes is always there even while watching movie. Every white/grey/blue background I notice it.

[Q] Fix for notification bar "burn-in"?

Hi,
Can someone make a launcher with the notification bar transparent? I just noticed that the "burn-in" problem for blue background is real. I used Jscreen for 6-7 hours and 90% percent of "burn-in" problem was fixed, but It will be nice to have a transparent notification bar. This way the "burn-in" problem won't be an issue.
PS: To check if you have "burn-in" problem enter "LCD Test Mode" by dialing *#0*# then choose "red", "green" and "blue". Check the notification bar area.
Wrong section to ask a question seeing as we already have a question/answer forum
On another note, why not just get a launcher that supports toggling status bar ?
eg LauncherPro,Adwlauncher,Zeam....etc (Order does not reflect preference)

I think a question for modified launcher belongs to Development area. The poll is only secondary issue.
I like the stock launcher (it is the only one on JS3 who doesn't lag without lagfix) and tell me how do you select on other launchers the notification bar if you choose to hide it.
Is there an app to check that? I'm in cm7 and the code doesn't work beside samsung firmwares..
Swipe up to make it appear. Swipe down to open it completely.

Jscreen. After you start Fix Stuck Pixel press Menu and choose Locate.
How does this technically fix the degradation ??
EDIT:
"Removes burn-in by equalising screen usage. "
This probably means degrading the entire screen with the hopes that the degradation will match on the burned out area
Degradation can be stopped with lower brightness, right? With apps like Screen Filter.
Hm... On the other hand, what has brightness to do with colors? On classic LCDs - nothing, hm...

I really don't think so because with Jscreenfix it's the same pattern on whole screen. If it's about degradation then pixels already damaged will be damaged more, so the difference between pixels degradation will be the same.
For this issue, I'm using this combination:
1. Use another launcher. I'm using ADW, and activate the 'Hide Notification Panel' option.
2. Activate the 'Full Screen Mode' in my browser. This will hide the notif panel while browsing. I'm using Opera Mobile.
3. Get rid the clock in the notif panel. I'm using the PaulDiddy's theme to do that. Then I use widget to display the clock.
4. Reduce the screen brightness to minimum as much as possible.
5. Any other ways that prevent too many appearence of bright static pixels will help to reduce the burn in issue getting worse.
Awww. If only I know an app call Jscreen, I will not waste my time sending my phone for service just 2 days ago (got back today).
The only thing I found so far is changing the background of notification bar as shown in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726411
I chose transparent bar.

TBH, I dont see how having a transparent bar will help vs a black bar, infact having a transparent bar will degrade it significantly faster vs black.

The problem is with pixels from inactive region of the notification bar, so it seems that degradation results from inactivity. A transparent bar will put them to work so they will not degrade anymore.
PS: the colour of the notification bar isn't 100% black, it's grey or 90% black, so maybe it's better to say Static Pixels instead of Inactive Pixels. In both cases activity seems to make them recover.
PPS: The third PNG looks more like the actual "burn-in" (the difference between colors isn't so big though).

[Q] weird notification burn in?

ok so I've tried out practically every new 2.3.3 ROM for the captivate and something that I've noticed is when i pull the notification bar down you can kind of see what you were doing like it was burned in(like when im texting you can still sort of see the keyboard) but after a few seconds it starts to fade away, is anyone else noticing this or am i just crazy?
crap just noticed i posted in general -.-
nope, you're crazy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IikM0jLbMUQ
you are not a crazy, mine too burns out. but seems we have just a very small ill with screens. after some time it will decay faster...
it's just AMOLED screen

for tl;dr ppl:
It's not a burn-in, it's simply the OLEDs being too energized, so they glow a lil even if they are supposed to be showing "black".
in launcherpro options i set the home button to hide notifacation bar after taking back to homescreen. minimizes wear and tear up there...

I thought I had notification burn in too, especially when the xda app loads.
Its not actual burn in. Like someone else said, its residual energy. If I change my notification settings to hide the clock, and reboot, the "burn" changes too.

RevoltRom 1.4 Findings

I've been using Revolt since 1.1 and have to say its been a fairly decent setup and the upgrades have been seamless, but I have a few concerns since 1.3 and things seem to be worse in 1.4.
1.3 issues
FC car home on startup
FC in Google Navigation when Speak Destination is selected (Fixed in 1.4)
FC when trying to access voice mail from Dial Pad
1.4 issues
FC car home on startup
FC when trying to access voice mail from Dial Pad
Ringtones\Notifications have double entries in selection menu (lost all my good ones from 1.3 too!)
Black background on text messages? (I dont mind it but its not consistent with any other menus that all have white)
I'd like to see these addressed or any suggestions if its just me with some of these problems. Overall this is THE rom to have for the phone, I have no problems with 3G delay or bloat/slowness like the factory rom and my phone never reboots or locks up.. just want to say keep up the good work and hope this helps make future roms better!
Hey thanks for the comments! Couple things, quick and easy fix for you for the voice mail button is to a) do as I do and long press
1 (hence the reason I didn't know there was a problem lol) or b) in the op of revolt is the Verizon visual voice mail app, download and install zip in cwm and you will be good to go with the button. Second, the fc on boot for car home is a battle. Lg has made it difficult on this one and so has google. It has been the death of me and I know majorpay has put in a load of work to get it running also, and everytime we think it is fixed it will work sometimes and not others. It is annoying I know but we are trying. The black and green mms is from a request and a port from my old theme for decrap. I am working on porting more apps as I go. The ringtones is coming from somewhere else. I had the same problem where I had downloaded and extracted a rom on my sdcard and it was pulling the doubles from there. Once I deleted that, no more doubles.
I am glad you like it! It is a work in progress and as time goes I will continue to try to make it better!

Thanks for the reply, honestly the FC on car home doesnt bother me nor do I use it so no worries... thanks for the VM tip! that will really fix my only real battle with the Rom at the moment the rest I can live with!
Keep up the good work

The lock screen is a known problem for the charging status with the aosp lockscreen. I had basically rewritten the smali code for the lock screen to mimic that of the nexus one, and it still did not work. There were complaints of not being able to tell what the charge status was without going into the about menu, so I recoded the charging xml to show battery level. While charging, the led will be green if over 10% and red if under. That way you know if it is charging or not.

Ok great, also to though the battery in the status bar does not change to a charge indicator like it used to. It just stays on the battery percentage.

I'd hate to hijack, but on a somewhat related note of Revolt 1.4 findings I noticed when going to attach multimedia to a text message, at least using the stock messaging app, the text is invisible. I'd noticed this back with the RevoBread theme as well. Not too much of an issue just a slight inconvenience but easy enough to navigate past. Thanks for the hard work on the ROM mt!

Nav bar problems

I noticed this too - and it wasn't like that on my S8+
I think the time the nav bar remains after pressing the back button is too short, causing problems in apps that have buttons at the bottom like Facebook (damn gif button!), Messages, Relay Pro, etc
Wasn't like that on the S8+ because the nav bar hung there for a half second longer allowing me to back out all the way before disappearing.
I was going to make a thread about this, but you beat me to it. Rather annoying honestly

Damn I thought i was the only one. Hope they do something about it.
I'm having issues too. Especially in BlueMail where the delete email button is right where you hard press for home. The hard press always goes home... but simultaneously deletes the email I was reading. Was getting so confused when I couldn't find emails I was sure I'd read!
If the nav bar is locked open its fine as its squishes the screen up, but its tedious constatly locking and unlocking it. A feature to lock the nav bar on a per app basis would be awesome!

Immersive mode

Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone has found a way to get full immersive mode.
I know you can hide the navbar but I'd love to hide the status bar as well and make it so that apps go around the camera hole.
I don't want to hide the hole but want to put the whole screen up so that I don't see in every app the time and all the status bar icons. Thanks a lot!
I want that too, but apparently no app is able to do that on my Galaxy S10. Hope to see that feature available soon!

Please send immersive mode requests to Samsung via feedback, or by emailing them. Right now the adb commands create annoying black bars instead of extending the screen.
I currently don't have my S10 yet, but use 'SystemUI Tuner' on my OnePlus 6 to do immersive mode.

Technically you could remove the black back by going into Settings>Display>Full Screen apps and selecting all to be full screen instead of auto. However this makes removing the status bar useless since even though you don't get the black bar you still do get a bar that's the color of the app. Green for whatsapp for instance. So you're not actually getting any more screen real estate, just hiding the status bar which I find it easier to do through adb instead of any other app which requires you to give more permissions hence to type more in the terminal.
I'm looking for a way to hide the status bar and have the screen go up and around the camera cutout, just like it works on any other phone which doesn't have a camera cutout

Samsung makes these awesome panels but makes its almost impossible to remove the static elements opening us up to burn in. Toss us a bone Samsung or use a different display tech!

I opened myself 2 threads about this on xda and one on reddit XD this is soooooooo important to me but no one seems to really care about it much! no one could help how can it be, that folks buy a S10 because of it's infinity display which has very little top and side bezels but are completely fine with a huuuuuuuge statusbar that's just a software bezel because of the bad software.... don't get me started about the possible burn in issues or uneven wear.
the usual adb command don't work
Sammy's own settings in the settings app where you can choose between automatic and fullscreen does nothing
the only thing that worked for me was app cloner so far. I cloned apple music, relay, spotify and tumblr and the difference that it makes is soooo huge!!!! Sammy has to do something about this. Getting all that space back, seeing the content scroll behind and around the punch hole and up to the frame which let's you notice how thin the top bezel really is.... yes on most apps some element get's get blocked by the punch hole, but if you are familiar with the app and know that there is something you can still touch it and it works, or what I do is, triggering one handed mode for a second pressing it and move on. for me that would work. Sammy should put a disclaimer saying, can cause some issues with certain apps and let us use all the apps we wan't in fullscreen/immersive mode. It sure does look better and that's the way I'm gonna be using my S10 after rooting.
please if you have more tips how to get immersive mode, let me know.

Yes of course! like I mentioned before I always use my apps in immersive mode but for once I own a device that's not rooted yet and therefore hasn't a dozen of custom roms with the ability to tweak settings. And because the usual adb commands do nothing I remembered that app cloner had a bunch a display settings which you can mess with. And viola! It has an option to flag apps as immersive mode apps and it actually works! It seems to use a different hook/way to force apps into immersive mode and the result is just beautiful!!! Now you can really enjoy the Display of the S10.
Let me tell ya, after using apps in immersive mode for a hot minute and going back to the stock way sammy intended for us to use the S10, I have to say sammy did only a half hearted job on this. Yeah hardware side is nice but the software side is lacking and not utilizing the hardware. It seems like they didn't now any better and settled on a huge arse statusbar. Maybe because this isn't iOS where developers can develop for specific hardware not like on android.
The Downside? some elements do get in the way and require some kind of a workaround. In this case I settled on using one handed mode which brings the top half part of the screen down revealing those blocked elements by the punch hole. This works so far very good and I'm already used to it. Some elements peak out behind the punch hole so you already know there is something, in this case you can still touch that area because even the punch hole has a digitizer in that area.
S10+amoled theme+Substratum black theme+apps in immersive mode= In my opinion the best way to use this device and forget/never notice punch hole ever.
This should be a bigger deal and more people should talk about this. xda should cover this on the Frontpage.
