has anyone tried flashing abysskernel on the latest official ICS?
Why would you wanna do that ?
Abysskernel is a GingerBread kernel, it will not work on ICS. Latest or the chinese repack.
Because i want to overclock my note.

As far as I know Abyss one is just a GB kernel not ICS compatible.
As far as I know...
you can flash it but you simply will have a bootloop better not try it as your device won't boot to system...

Wait for a custom ICS kernel. The source is out. Kernels should be rolling out next few weeks.
Currently I'm using DXLP9 firmware, stock ROM and stock kernel, but with root. I wanted to flash SpeedMod kernel, but it is stated that it is a test release, so I'm not convinced enough to flash it, and I don't know whether it will work with my ROM or not.
Does flashing custom kernels lead to data wipe?

Flashing kernels doesn't wipe anything from your phone.
I'd flash the new CF--Root LP9 kerenel if I were you.
Chainfire thinks he has disabled the bricking bug in his new CWMR.
However, your phone, your risk, your decision.
What's the difference between the CF kernel and stock kernel? If I'm not wrong, CF kernel only adds root and CWM, but the rest are the same as stock kernel.
franco.Kernel 3.0.15 r4
will the cf kernel have issues if I root my current kernel with su busybox? thanks will e flashing with MOP

You'll have stock ICS with no root.
Hey Guys! Just needed a bit of help. Is it safe to flash a gn cf root kernel on stock or custom ICS rom?? Like, will I be safe from the superbrick bug if I flash a gb kernel over an ICS one? Any Help will be appreciated! Thanx in advance!
P.S I am sorry if the question is asked before..
its hit and miss really, Some users report that CF root kernel is safe, others say its not.
One kernel confirmed to be safe is Abyss
They have one for GB and one for ICS

So if I flash Abyss Note kernel, I am safe from the superbrick bug? But won't the device be already damaged if I flash stock ICS? And also if I use factory reset from recovery or other superbrick commands, will my device get damaged? Sorry for the Q's!
If you flash an Abyss GB kernel for stock ICS (or ICS at all) it won't boot (or give a lot of errors IF it does).
Just use Speedmod or Franco kernels for stock ICS. They are safe.

You are never completely safe from the superbrick, But with abyss, and as said above speedmod (what i use) the command that causes the brick is disabled, So providing you only ever do a full wipe on a KNOWN SAFE KERNEL you will be fine.
There are a few safe kernels now, Im unsure of them all as ive only ever used speedmod & abyss, Feel free to use another one, Just be sure to check if its safe or not.
The bug is in the chip, But the command to trigger the bug is in the ICS kernel, Hence why GB is the ultimate safe option.
Thank you very much guys! I guess that I'll stay on GB till a stable ICS comes out!I really wanted to try the cool mods for ICS! But are you sure that if I use speedmod Wiping or Restoring won't brick my note?
Well no can can confirm 100% that you wont get a brick, Although the chances of that happening on a safe kernel is minimal.
As with all modding you do it at your own risk, I can confirm i have successfully done a full wipe in CWM using both SpeedMod and Abyss kernel, So have 100's of other users too ! So you should be fine
I had doubts at first, So i upgraded to ICS via ODIN without wiping, never had any issues.
Hey...What if I flash a gingerbread cf root kernel on ICS??

Most likely your device will not boot.
Sent from my Galaxy Note running ICS
Abyss kernel and CM9 ROM
thanks a lot every one.... a lot of info floating around...
but there a re a few questions im not sure about.... i hope if you can help answer them....
1. i checked my GN ICS 4.0.3 rooted stock and it has the chipset known to have emmc bug issue.. so now if I flash using the abyss kernel it should be fine. But do i need to flash it with a ICS ROM only or can I flash it with a pre rooted GB ROM as well?
2. I understand there are two versions of Abyss Kernel. One for ICS and one for GB. Which do i install if i plan to move to GB from ICS official stock? and vice-versa?
3. Is it safe to directly move from rooted stock ICS 4.0.3 to CM9? using Abyss kernel?
4. Just one las thing. When we flash a kernel like Abyss to ensure non bricking, does it mean that the new ROM would use the same kernel (Abyss) ? or would it install its own kernel? For example if i flash Abyss and then flash CM9 ROM, will CM9 use Abyss as the system kernel or will it install its own kernel?
Sorry for asking soo many dumb questions, but i want to get my facts right before i flash.
Thanks in advance.
Just flash abyss kerne if u want flashing any rom with CWMR..
Gb kernel cannot used in ics rom for daily..

azzle, are you sure there is an abyss kernel for ics too ? everyone says abyss is meant for GB only ? where is the original thread please ?
here you go...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362424
read all on that thread bud before you do some actions.
Abyss is a gb kernel, it's useful for doing quick flashing under ics as it's already rooted with cwm baked in. But yeah, I you can't run a ics rom under abyss, but you can install abyss, run wipes, then install ics rom and kernel all in one.

is the kernel which I can install, to flash on in cwm (ics stock 4.0.4)?
Huh ? I didn't get that ?
No stock ICS Kernel is safe.
You can use SpeedMod but check if its compatible with 4.0.4 first

I wanna install Kingdroid 3.0
Currently on rooted Kernel Version [email protected] #2
Can i just download the whole packaged which contained fransco's kernel v3.0 and flash it straight via CWM recovery?
Then after that install the rom?
current kernel > fransco's kernel > install ICS rom???

What u can do is flash abyss kernel (which is GB) and then reboot recovery from advance options. Then full wipe and just then u can flash ICS rom.
I guess that Franco's kernel is safe but not sure and it is not worth the risk....
Any GB firmware or kernel is safe to wipe. Also all the roms that are built from source such as CM9 are also safe....

Ahh if you are already in GB then, there's no need to flash another GB kernel or firmware Sorry, I am new to the Note and I am not used to the names yet.
If you are rooted already you can flash an overclocked kernel or install SetCPU or other daemon controlloer that allows you to overclock the CPU, there's no need to use a custom rom for it...
