Official ICS to CF ICS - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys.
I'm currently on official ICS (LTY) without root.
But the battery life is pretty awful. So I thought of switching back to pre-rooted GB via PC odin and then flashing ICS Chinese repack via mobile odin and flashing imilka or stunner via cwm, because the battery life was so much better.
Are those the right steps to flash it without risk of bricking it?

If you gonna usa a chinese repack you have a chance to brick your phone, so keep away from Stunner or imilka roms

I've been on them before and they looked pretty stable to me.

Well they're not. Specifically the i9220 kernel

Okay I think I'll stay on LTY.

Without root there is not much you can do to help battery life. If you were rooted you could freeze or remove some system apps.

That's true, but I've read that CF-root is dangerous in cwm.

PURE speculation based off one user who experimented with LPY kernel on CM9 official.
Root by itself without cwm is possible. But freezing or removing system apps has nothing to do with your recovery either.
Check out Dr ketan guide to LPY upgrade with root. Its the cautious method

Are you trying to do it on ICS with CWM? CWM has problems with nandroid backups on official ICS roms.
If it is on ics roms, it's likely you're bricked, but without further info, no idea. And if it is under lpy or lpf, there is a work around if you're up to it but quite advanced.

ICS backup doesn't produce bricks, restore does.

Im on the lpf official but rooted. I tried doing nanroid backup using the "temporary" cwm credits to dr ketan but failed. I dont think im brick coz my phone functions as normal.

Ignore my last post, I didn't read your issue correctly.

Are you using Voodoo OTA Root Keeper?
I heard from some Play Store comment that it might give problems in backups. Try disabling the root protect first if so.

Flash rootable GB rom with PC odin.
Root it and get clockwork recovery.
Then flash any of the custom GB ROM you like.
Read this thread.
Thnx man

A good GB rom to flash through CWM would be Checkrom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1428855. Checkrom with Franco kernel = best battery life

[Q] Wiping Galaxy note and upgrading to 4.0.4

Hi all,
I'm giving my Galaxy Note to a friend and I'm wondering what the best way is to wipe my note and install the latest 4.0.4 Stock ICS ROM.
I'm running 4.0.3 XXLPY and I'm not rooted.
Thanks for your help.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
flash a safe kernel in ODIN, boot into recovery and do a factory reset along with all caches (including dalvik)
reboot back into download mode and flash the 4.0.4 firmware. easy peasy
I'm not rooted, would flashing just a kernel work via Odin?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
you dont need root, just a sake kernel with cwm built in, such as speedmod , notecore and many more
The best way I feel is downgrade to gb rom do wipe and then upgrade to 4.0.4
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Flash Abyss 4.2... Reboot Recovery Full wipe and flash ROM... Reboot System... Simple as that..
This is what I was thinking... is it safe to downgrade to GB via Odin from an ICS ROM? If so I think that would be easier.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
giving your note away..... wow i say
So, we cause a triple murder before breakfast, start a race war before dinner - that's uh, that's a pretty good day.
Guys is it safe to downgrade from 4.0.3 ICS to GB via Odin, wipe, then update to 4.0.4?
Thanks

This works for me..
Because of the brick bug. I was afraid to do any flashes in stock ICS (4.0.3). Anyhow I need to upgrade my Galaxy Note to ICS 4.0.4. And after reading so many threads, Finally I found it is safe to Flash Gingerbread first and do a factory reset and then flash ICS 4.0.4.
ROMs I used to flash,
GB ROM (2.3.6)
N7000DDLB2---------2.3.6-------2012 February-------N7000ODDLA1---------------India---------------------------------Download (Non wipe)
ICS ROM (4.0.4) (Non-wipe)
N7000DXLR6---4.0.4/12.07.30-N7000OLBLR2---Download--Sri Lanka
Read dr.ketan's thread for ROMs and more information.

Returning to stock

Hi all,
Thinking of selling my i9000 soon (to upgrade to an S3), before I sell it. I'd like to return it to a stock rom and unroot it (currently on CM9), which stock rom should I use? How do I unroot it, and how do I remove all my personal information?
Thanks in advance
Rob

Thanks! Do I need to use a PIT and repartition? Are there any things to look out for since I'm going from ICS to GB, or is it just the same as flashing any other Odin ROM?
Sorry for all the questions
There is no problem to go back to gb from ics if you use odin.just flash it and you are done.

I thought that it is not that easy because some ICS use different filesystems.
If you want to get back to gb custom rom it's difficult.odin is used to flash official firmware.

first download and official firmware of both gingerbread and ics of your region.
using pc odin flash GB rom over the custom rom your using currently.
then do a full wipe/data/factory rset/cache/dalvik cache.
(this you have to do only on stock gingerbread rom)
then follow same process and flash ics rom.
and here dont wipe anything.
then use yr phone OTA checker and get the latest jellybean.
